    Happenings:

The First step after the GYMs was Lake O' Rage, I forgot to bring pokeballs, so I just defeated Gyarados. Then I went with Lance on a spree destroying all of rockets crappy poison types with pretty much ease. Afterward I easily had Pryce beat with my advantage, although Seel's part water gave me trouble. Then I got a call from Elm and had to wipe out Team Rocket again. After that I had been given the rainbow wing! I headed straight to that tower and caught Ho-oh and named him Hoppus. Then I went ahead through Ice Cave, rather easily aswell. Then I trained all of my team excluding Hoppus to level 48. Then I took on the dragon person Claire who was trouble because of the constant paralyzation, but in the end I won. Then discovering HMman [krabby] couldn't learn waterfall I planned out a new HMslave and found Poliwhirl could learn Strength, Surf, Waterfall, and whirlpool so It had its work cut out for it, as an HMlord!!! I cruised through Victory Road, and leveled everyone up a little more. Now I have the sort of final battle ahead! I must use my TMs wisely to decide my techniques and strategy. I will keep posting updates as follows.....

    TEAM:

    Happenings:

Kanto was a great idea for the game, but sadly it was just a breeze. I hate to write so little but there isn't anything to write about, just walk in mop the floors leave, move on. But On the Brightside I caught my first natural shiny of all time: Ponyta!!! I would use it but just don't see any reason to since my newly caught Houndoom/FeDex works great. I'll post how and I took on each GYM as follows

THUNDERBADGE: Bazly + Earthquake = fast win.
WATERBADGE: Type advantage.... So what Earthquake shook her place down!
SOULBADGE: Bugs, Steel, Poison = Flamethrower & Earthquake!
PSYCHICBADGE: FeDex's first can of woopin to open up!
ERIKA'SBADGE: FeDex's Second can of whoopin to open up.
    ROCKBADGE: Bazly Earthquake, Excellent combo!
    FIREBADGE: Earthquake strikes again!
EARTHBADGE: Balanced team? Brute strength over-ruled in this case.

Ahead of me lies a difficult challenge: Red, I plan on taking everyone to level 70+ to handle him. In the end I will smash him though. This.... I KNOW! FeDex will crush Espeon, Hoppus will muscle down Blastoise & Charizard, Bazly will smash Pikachu & Venasaur, and anyone else will be muscled down by hoppus!

You know that Legendaries aren't allowed right? Anyway, good progress, you're almost ready to finish the MTC ^^

Huh!? That isn't anywhere in the rules on the first page. I suppose you must be right since you're the one who set up the challenge, but if there's a rule against Legends it should be specified.
In fact, frylock specifically asked if using Ho-Oh was allowed, even though there wasn't a stated rule against it. It was back on August 3rd.

That's no good, cause I just took down Ash/Red! I might as well just log it down. I fought him just to see if I could handle him and I knocked him out! Sorry if I screwed it all up

Comments: I finished it off finally, I think I actually went pretty quick! Now I plan on doing another, but want t think about it a little before I start! In the mean time I have also found that I am way too stingy with TMs I only used one the entire game cause I was saving them

I would do another one, but I don't want to do normal, as its been done before, and steel has been done, and I tried out bug and falkner was just about invincible and caterpies, metapods, etc. are horrible....

I might do grass next..... That would be nice with Chikorita, but what other good grass types are there...

Flying would be nice too, but the types would make it seemingly too easy....

I also would do dark, but you don't get any dark pokemon except for Umbreon who is a pain to get until Kanto.....

This sounds fun... so I decided to try it out. I'll be going Water monotype on my Crystal version.

    Name/Blue
    Money/3300
    Pokedex/2
    Playtime/0:28
    Badges/0

I started things out today by choosing Totodile as my main Pokemon. I went to meet Mr. Pokemon, got the Pokedex, went back to town, laid a smackdown on my rival Azure's Chikorita, and met with Professor Elm once more to deliver the Egg. I finished today off by catching my next Pokemon, a Poliwag.

    Team

    Drivy Finn (Totodile, male)
    Level 7
    Scratch, Leer, Rage

    Universe (Poliwag, female)
    Level 4
    Bubble

Also, frylock, you could try Ice? Oh wait, I finished Ice, but I never got around finishing poison, prehaps Poison? Grass? Rock? Fighting? Electric?

Also, I'm quiting my Pure Water MTC and I'm going for a Bug one. I'll update later. Ciao.

Good idea Ice would be good but does the first or second type have to be ice, because it seems there are mainly just ice/water types.

As long as a pokémon is Ice-type, it's legal. That means you can use Dewgong, Cloyster, Lapras, Delibird, Jynx, Piloswine, Sneasel...you can't use Articuno, though, because MeLoVeGhOsTs has belatedly noted that legends aren't allowed.

    Update!

    Name/Blue
    Money/13815
    Pokedex/9
    Badges/2

I started the day off by visiting Sprout Tower. It was rather difficult, as expected, so I took a break to train at Falkner's Gym. The battle with Falkner went well - I got lucky with some long-lasting Hypnosis, and neither of his Pokemon ever used Mud Slap even when they were awake - and he went down quickly. I breezed through Union Cave, with a small stop to catch a Magikarp and to start swearing because Wooper can only be caught at night, and beat up the Rockets in the Slowpoke Well. Because of some good overlevelling, I breezed through them and my rival, despite his Bayleef - Gyarados made short work of it. I finished after laying a beating on Bugsy.

    Team

    Drivy Finn (Croconaw, male)
    Level 18
    Water Gun, Scratch, Leer, Rage

    Universe (Poliwag, female)
    Level 18
    Water Gun, Bubble, Hypnosis

    So Sue Me (Gyarados, male)
    Level 21
    Bite, Tackle, Splash

    Minch (Slowpoke, female)
    Level 20
    Confusion, Water Gun, Tackle, Curse

Okay, where did I last leave off... at beating Bugsy. The next task was to catch a Wooper, since it had become nighttime. After doing so, I plunged bravely forth into yon Ilex Forest. I plowed through, stopping briefly to pick up Headbutt and embarass the sole trainer, and exited the forest. The trainers there didn't take long - nor did the trainers on the other side of Goldenrod, who I defeated as preparation for Whitney. I needn't have worried - Gyarados made short work of her Clefairy and Quagsire with Dig disrupted Miltank nicely. I defeated Sudowoodo and moved into Ecruteak. There, I explored the Burnt Tower, faced my rival (easy, again) and let the legendary dogs out. The dancing Kimono Girls were a bit of a challenge, simply because Umbreon and Vaporeon have such tanky defences, but I beat them and earned a Surf HM. Oh yeah. The entirety of Morty's gym fell at the hands of Gyarados and Croconaw - more specifically, their Bite attack. Afterwards, I visited Olivine and met Jasmine in the Lighthouse. before leaving, I caught a Chinchou. I decided to forgo crossing the sea, instead going for Mahogany Town. I made short work of the red Gyarados with some well-placed Sparks, thrashed the Rockets in their hideout, then beat Pryce using a combination of Lanturn (for the water types) and Feraligatr (for his Piloswine). I then caught a Farfetch'd (for HMs), and crossed the sea to Cianwood. The fighting gym was surprisingly hard, since my only anti-fighter was Slowpoke, but I got some major luck in battling Chuck. Slowpoke managed to move first thanks to Quick Claw and used Confusion on Primeape... which confused it. Primeape was easy pickings once it hurt itself. Once Chuck sent out Poliwrath, Slowpoke managed to move first again and managed to confuse Poliwrath. Again. Yeah, it wasn't a difficult match. I picked up Fly and zipped back to Olivine to deliver the medicine, and faced off with Jasmine. Both Magnemites fell to Quagsire's Dig, and Steelix died from one of Feraligatr's Surfs. I then headed back to Goldenrod to defeat the Rockets. The only trouble there came in the form of my rival, whose Meganium got some lucky Sleep Powders and Body Slams in. After taking care of Team Rocket, I journeyed through Ice Cave and finished in Blackthorne. Tomorrow's task: Catching a Lapras.

Yeah, but MeLoVeGhOsTs already completed an ice he said, so that would be a redundancy.

[i]i'm glad to see that everyone is doing well in their MC, and i am hoping that they contiune to make good headway. but right now, i'm posting here to ask whatyou guys want the award for finishing the "GSC Monotype Challenge" should be? i was thinking of making it something like one of those unown trophies, in the shape of an "M", or maybe an "MC", and have it say something along the lines of "Finished the GSC Monotype Challenge" or something like that. any comments or ideas? thanks guys, and let me know ASAP so i can take the final idea over to the FanArt forum and request it be made (i, unfortunately, lack the ability to such a thing )

Actually, we might want to have something indicating it was a GSC monotype, or we could just type it out under the trophy thing.

Maybe we could just let Pory make us some of those awesome banners ^^ + a ribbon on it when it's completed (which you could let the fan-art section do.)

    That's my though about it.

I would be able to make those banners/trophies but it would have to wait til my other computers virus was gone, since it has my image editting programs on it. I could post up some examples of my other banners.

I've decided to do a ground monotype, since I could get sopme interesting Pokemon semi early in the game, other words I would do dark, but the earliest non eevee dark Pokemon is in Kanto... So... G-Man... An adventure awaits you!

Okay, I left off about to catch a Lapras. Well, I caught one and trained it up to learn Ice Beam. With that, Clair went down easily - an Ice Beam for each of the Dragonairs and a Perish Song for the Kingdra. I breezed through Victory Road and began training, but soon I came to the conclusion that my Gyarados sucked. I promptly caught a Tentacool - which, luckily enough, had amazing IVs - and went back to Victory Road. After a bit of training, I faced the Elite Four. Will went down from Lanturn's Spark and Slowbro's Shadow Ball. Koga was rather challenging, seeing as I had no fire moves and my strongest psychic move was Confusion, but I prevailed with minimal damage - I got some major luck in hitting through Koga's Double Teams. I used Slowbro to tank through Bruno - 'Bro took a lot of damage, but nothing a Hyper Potion couldn't fix. Karen's Umbreon went down at the hands of Tentacruel, her Vileplume by Lapras' Ice Beam, her Gengar and Houndoom by Feraligatr's Earthquake, and her Murkrow by Lanturn's Spark. Finally, we came to Lance. He was embarassingly easy - Lapras swept through his entire team, save Gyarados, who Lanturn fainted quite easily. I finished the day back at my own house after obtaining the SS Ticket.

    Happenings:

I started off, naming Cyndaquil HMfo, for no reason, I beat my rival, an went back and got the 5 pokeballs. I caught a Weedle (named- Maggotman) and Caterpie (Named Basketcase), evolved them both into Metapods and Kakunas. This was the most boring training I have ever had. Fight one pokemon with caterpie, fight one pokemon with Weedle, visit pokemon center, Repeat. But now, it was night, so I took advantage of the moment and caught Spinarak, my future Beedrill replacement. I looked ahead at the gym lying before me. Falkner. I raised everyone to level 10 evolving them as they went, now Beedrill, Butterfree, and Spinarak were strong enough for the test run. I went in, fighting his wimpy little helpers. Then I took on the next one which was also very weak, sonce the pidgeys still didn't know gust. Then came the final oppenent. Falkner, with a Pidgeotto... That knew gust! I sent out caterpie, who made short work of the pidgey, who didn't know gust. Then afterwards he sent out pidgeotto and I figured what the heck, give Beedrill/Maggotman a shot, he took him down with 2 fury attacks, and only got hit with one gust. That was pretty simple actually, the ttraining was boringly slow, but it was worth it. I trotted ahead viewing my next challenge: Bellsprout Tower!!!

    TEAM:

    Basketcase / Butterfree
    Level: 10
    1) Tackle
    2) String Shot

Yeah, bug rocks. I did one myself, but never got around finishing it. A shame. I'll do one myself, a bit later.

Also, don't you think it's stupid to train up pokemon you'll not use in the future? I mean, you wasted EXP on those pokemon then.

[i]all these updates lol... but nah i'm glad to see everyone doing well. and yea ghosts, really you shouldn't bother training up pokés you won't be using in the future. i mean, it really is just wasting time. i can see you having it stay close in levels until you get the poké you want and all, but even then you can just take it out of your team or something. i dunno, but whatever you want to do.

also, as per the awards, i guess we can keep it in house if you guys don't mind making them at all. like i said, i would do it, but i'm not a very skilled artist in any medium. but really its up to you what you would like, maybe i'll start a poll in GSC to have you vote on what you'd like to see, banners or trophies or whatever.

I gave Beedrill the boot. Spinarak had all around better stats, and with nightshade he leveled up through Rock tunnel pretty fast. After getting out of the tunnel I took on the rockets in the cave. I realized training Basketcase would be dumb, since I wouldn't use him much longer anyway. I decided to use butterfree as a secondary just-in-case guy for fighting Bugsy. Fighting Bugsy was pretty easy. Basketcase fired off repeated Confuson for Metapod and Kakuna, and Malone brought Scyther down easy. Now I will gather HM cut and go ahead to Goldenrod to aquire Pinsir, and Scyther. Maybe even Heracross...

Well, I have been playing quite a bit without updating, so this will be a larger than normal update. First off Spinarak evolved into Ariados, which made him a lot stronger. Second I caught a Scyther, named him & named him slickshoes. Then I went ahead and fought Whitney, the normall gym leader. Her Miltank was tremendpusly powerful, and it took a lot of paralyzation, and leech life to take it down. Then I dropped butterfree, and moved on. I still need to catch a Pinsir, but it will have to wait, I went ahead to Ecruteak, where my rival was destroyed. Then after freeing the Mystical Dogs I tore Morty's Gym a new one, using Slickshoes pursuit. Then I traveled even further ahead, and went to Olivine where I began to climb the lighthouse to meet the next GYM leaders. I am actually surprised with the strength of bug pokemon. They aren't weaklings, they just need some extra training...

    TEAM:

    Malone / Ariados
    Level: 28
    1) Poison Sting
    2) Night Shade
    3) Scary Face
    4) Leech Life

    SlickShoes / Scyther
    Level: 27
    1) Quick Attack
    2) False Swipe
    3) FOcus Energy
    4) Pursuit

HMfo / Cyndaquil / HM Slave
    1) Headbutt

You shouldn't ever have to get by the RageCandyBar guy (in Mahogany? I assume that's what you mean?) Even if your game were working fine, he would prevent you from passing him. Just get through enough of the plot and he'll go away...I think he leaves once you've gotten both the Mineralbadge and the Glacierbadge, though I might be wrong. I know you don't have to defeat Team Rocket in Goldenrod to get him to leave.

Yes, but if I'm having a problem there I will probably have others as I go throough the game... I'll go for it, but it would be bad if theres a problem so that I can't fight Red or something...

Yeah, people have been reporting various glitches that are apparently just due to age. In my Red Version, the sign at the end of Viridian Forest that's supposed to say "LEAVING VIRIDIAN FOREST — PEWTER CITY AHEAD" has changed to say the same thing a sign on the other end of the Forest says, the one telling you to stay out of grassy areas if you don't want to meet wild pokémon. Let's hope nobody has a glitch that actually obstructs game completion!

yea, unfortunately as games ages glitches are more and more likely to happen. there was actually a thread that discussed this in great length lol... but nah, hopefully its just something minor and nothing that will like ruin the game, you know? also, frylock looking good man. glad to see all your pokés are coming along nicely. hopefully this glitch or whatever won't stop you from completeing the challenge.

    Well...

It isn't just the Ragecandybar guy who does it... Every single person who when seen has an exclamation point above their head freezes the game...

    This sucks...

    Really bad...

Maybe I could do something, I'll try to fix it.

[color=cyan][i]man, i dunno... if its something like that, i don't know if you can fix it. and i mean, gameshark generally will only make it worse in most cases. maybe you could e-mail nintendo, but i don't know what they would be able to do. good luck though man, hopefully something works for you.

    Just a little update today.

    Name/Blue
    Money/114609
    Pokedex/22
    Playtime/31:32
    Badges/16

So yeah. Since I last updated, I've been pretty busy - I took down all 8 of the Kanto gym leaders. Lt. Surge was defeated by Quagsire, Erika by Slowbro and Lapras, Misty by Tentacruel and Lanturn, Sabrina by Slowbro, Janine was entirely too easy and was defeated by Quagsire, Brock by Tentacruel and Feraligatr, Blaine by Feraligatr and Quagsire, and Blue by... everyone in my team. I made my way to the grasses outside of Mt. Silver and saved my game.

    -Team-

LctrcSlide (female Lanturn, lv. 50) @ King's Rock
    Surf, Spark, Waterfall, Thunder Wave

ManInGauze (male Tentacruel, lv. 50) @ Focus Band
Surf, Sludge Bomb, Giga Drain, Barrier

Drivy Finn (male Feraligatr, lv. 50) @ Amulet Coin
    Surf, Strength, Bite, Earthquake

Ms Friday (female Lapras, lv. 50) @ Nevermeltice
Surf, Ice Beam, Body Slam, Perish Song

Minch (female Slowbro, lv. 51) @ Quick Claw
    Surf, Shadow Ball, Confusion, Flamethrower

The Critic (female Quagsire, lv. 50) @ Leftovers
    Earthquake, Surf, Ice Punch, Amnesia

You seem to do nicely, the only thing that's bothering me is that Laturn has such weak Electric attack. Is their no way for you to obtain Thunderbolt (Crystal?) if not, thunder prehaps?

Lanturn can learn Zap-Cannnon and Thunder (I think the level up) he could possibly trade the TM thunderbolt to G/S/C, but I think that's illegal

    maybe Hidden Power: Electric

No, I can get Thunderbolt via the Crystal move-tutor, but it's only on certain days. I'll be able to do it tomorrow.

[color=silver]Yeah, so I decided to scrap my Gold one and start with a Crystal game!
A quick set of questions; Once I got my Growlithe and Vulpix, can I trade over extra Fire Stone to evolve them both, since the Stone Man only gives out one per game? Same goes for Eevee to Flareon. I’d need to trade two extra Fire Stones to make my team usable, really...

    Crystal Fire Monotype Challenge!

    Trainer: Roland
Pokedosh: Ł5726 (too stubborn to use dollar-sign)
    Pokedex: 3
    Gaming time: 1:23
    Badges: 1

Got me a Cyndaquil! Hoorah! Fought my way through Rattatas galore, as well as some Hoothoots until Cynda was around level 7. Got me eggy from Mr. Pokemon, and proceeded to gain another few levels by thrashing ???, who I later rename Walter, cos I’ve been reading Dark Tower too much ><

Some mundane battles later, Cynda is level 10 and I’m almost in Violet City. I wander around, wondering which Pokemon to catch for my HM slave... I still haven’t decided by the time I get through Sprout Tower, the best place in the world for training Cyndaquils! Mwahaha! Die old fogeys! By the end of the Tower “challenge”, Cynda is level 14, has learned Ember, and evolved! Hooray! It almost makes me feel mean, toasting all those Bellsprouts, but hey!

I cry as I find out that my next Fire type is on Route 36 *sob*... I only want a Growlithe! ;_; But when I get there, I can get a Vulpix too, right? And what happens with Fire Stones? Can I trade them for Flareon, Arcanine and Ninetales?

After my tears dry, I make a swift stop at the Pokemon Centre, heal up Quilava and head off to maim Falkner. His cronies are horribly easy for my now-level-15 Quil, so I move easily onto Falkner; Oh No! A Pidgey! One Ember later and the mighty Pidgey falls, leaving (gasp) a Pidgeotto to take revenge... this one takes two Embers before it falls to the might of Quilava and I’m so close to gaining another level! ><

Back to the Pokemon Centre for a heal-up before heading off to the Ruins of Alph. Picking up the mysterious eggy on the way, I finally get another (if unusable) Pokemon in my party! I can’t believe that I used to find these puzzles hard! Solving the Kabuto puzzle then scarpering out of the annoying Unown bit. I kill a single Unown to get my level-up, and wahey! Quil is level 16 now!

I bugger off down Route 32, deciding that maybe Hoothoot can learn Flash. I use one of my Pokeballs on the owlet and nickname it ‘Om’ before continuing downwards, thrashing a Youngster by the name of Albert and his Rattata/Zubat duo and attempting to teach the HM to Om, cos I forgot when I caught it.
Woohoo! “Om learned Flash!” We’re in business!

OMG! Turns out there’s a Camper with the same name as me! I must defeat him! After defeating stupid Camper and his Nidoran, I remember that you can get Growlithes near Violet in Crystal, and proceed to hit myself in the face and toodle off back to the city. Doh! I get all the way back only to wander around for ages, before realising that it’s nighttime >< And I’m sure that Growlithes don’t appear at Nighttime, so I give up for the night. Bah, humbug.
