A basic, unevolved flying-pokemon battle!
1 on 1 (a short battle to signify my glorious return, or something.. )
I'll send out first

DQ: 1 week
Arena: A forest; perfectly suited to unevolved flyers. The trees are not extreme heights or anything, it's a normal forest, trees have plenty of branches to be used to the pokemon's advantage or disadvantage as the case may be... the ref can ref it as he or she sees fit.
Banned moves: Recovery (Recover, Synthesis, etc - moves like Giga Drain are ok...), Toxic, Perish Song, Grudge, Destiny Bond, Explosion, Self Destruct, 1 hit KOs, Attract...

I'll send out my male Swablu, Euphony. Hopefully both sides'll be quite equal if they're both unevolved and flying pokemon too.. at least, that's what I hope

EDIT: They don't necessarily have to be of the flying type btw, just as long as they can fly!
EDIT2: They don't have to be able to evolve either, a pokemon such as Farfetch'd or Murkrow's eligible too.

Interesting battle you have here, Cheesey. I wish I could battle you right now, but with three of my slots filled, and the fact that I'm waiting for Chris 2.0 and RaZoR LeAf to have a free slot for the tag team battle I'm having with them and drew (my first one in ages, BTW), I "technically" am at my limit.

However, I'll be glad to spectate this battle, though I sure wish I could have the time to apply to be a ref again someday...

Someday though, I'll hopefully have the time to battle you.

Right-o, then I'll kick things off with my shiny Metang, King Ramses!

King Ramses, I want you to use Agility and Icy Wind combo to wrap an icy blast around our foe. Then finish by forcing his distance with Sludge Bomb.

Euphony, I want you to use Agility as well to get out from the forest and up into the air above the treetops; don't burn too much energy though, just try to match his speed. Use Sunny Day to try and counter the Icy Wind and make it weaker, and then use Haze before his Sludge Bomb; hopefully he won't be able to see you clearly enough to aim accurately.

The battle starts off with both Pokemon shooting up through the trees and into the sky, Euphony with his wings tucked in and Ramses with arms shut behind them. Euphony makes it up first with Ramses not far behind and as he breaks the top of the forest, he releases a gust of wind tinged with small shards of ice right at Euphony. The Swablu cringes but doesn't make a sound as a light frost covers his whole body. He feels himself being weighed down but quickly creates a reddish sphere in front of his face and nudges it upwards into the sky. The clouds part to reveal a shining sun, which already is starting to melt the ice on Euphony's fur.

Right after Euphony launches the sphere, Ramses sends multiple globs of sludge flying at his opponent. Euphony tries to counterattack by releasing a thick haze that covers the immediate area between them but the sludge is already on target and he's eventually peppered a few times. He's more irritated than hurt but who wouldn't be?

Sunny Day out for 2 more rounds; haze is covering the area between the two Pokemon but the sunlight is going to dissipate it soon



I'm adding Rest to the ban list because I refuse to ref it. Also, since I'm reffing this battle Jeff is going to ref mine

Thanks for reffing Becca! I would have reffed your match but I'm not a ref any more, which is a bit of a snag in the plan, heh.

Euphony, that wasn't the best start, but we can still pull through. Use Sing for your first move.

If it works, use Dream Eater twice.


Subs: If it doesn't, use Safeguard and then Solarbeam but only if the Haze has faded. If the arena is still hazy and you can't get enough sunlight to use Solarbeam without charging, take a risk and use Swagger.

King Ramses, I want you to cover your ears as best you can. Then, while Euphony is setting up a Safeguard, I want you to use Meteor Mash. Finally, set up a Double Team.

With the orders shouted out, the two Pokemon continue their battle. Although they can't see each other rather well, sound moves aren't affected by the haze and Euphony uses that to his advantage and by begining to sing. Told to cover his ears, Ramses tries to smother the places where he can hear but mere coverage can't stop the pleasant but dangerous voice from being heard. Against his will, Ramses is made victim to the song and falls asleep. Oddly enough, he begins to descend from the skies and back into the forest below. It isn't a quick fall as his natural levitation keeps him from freefalling but a few smacks from tree branches refuse to elude him. Euphony sees Ramses falling and follows him down until the Metang is resting peacefully on the ground.

Euphony spends the rest of the round trying to suck the dreams from Ramses but the combination of him being a psychic type and a Pokemon who doesn't seem to dream all the much leaves Euphony sucking away and gaining little health:

Okay, that didn't go so well. King Ramses, just use Sleep Talk until you wake up. Once you wake up, use Safeguard, and if time permits, Meteor Mash.

Alrighty! Use Safeguard as he is still asleep.

If he stays asleep, fly down to the forest floor and use Sand Attack on him as he's still sleeping; it will hopefully lower the chances of him hitting you with his Sleep Talk attacks.
If he wakes up, fly up into the trees and wait for him as he uses Safeguard. If he comes up out of the trees after you, Solarbeam him when the sunlight is still strong.

With Ramses asleep, Euphony takes the time to create a translucent barrier with faint stars rotating in a clockwise manner as a defense towards nasty status attacks. Ramses makes a few noises, which signals that he's ready to attack. As Euphony tenses up, Ramses uses his arms to cover his face in a protective manner, an obvious sign of using Defense Curl. Euphony sighs a bit and relaxes his body.

Going up into the air, Euphony soon dives down to hurl dirt and grass with his claws. He hopes to blind Ramses and obscure his vision but as it hits the Metang's slack body, his eyes still remain closed and thus renders the attack useless. Ramses soon mutters again and an orange beam grows at the tip of his horn. Euphony tries to get out of the way but it's hard to escape a full powered Hyper Beam and the Swablu gets hit spot on and blown back into a tree.

Rather wounded, Euphony doesn't have the heart to get up and do the same thing again. Meanwhile, Ramses does his thing and a bright light appears out of nowhere and blinds Euphony. This really has not been a good round for him:

Damn! I guess our plan to make sure he was blind when he awoke didn't work but it's ok! I didn't realise what a limited movepool Swablu has... lol

Hmm. We should take it easy. Use Double Team and then Secret Power x2. If he gets rid of your clones when he's sleeping, Double Team again. If he rids you of your clones having woken up, use Agility to dodge instead.

Blinded and nervous, Euphony starts the round off by putting up clones, all of them surrounding the sleeping Ramses. Ramses mutters again and opens his eyes to try and stare down Euphony menacingly but the poor Swablu is blinded so he is not affected by his opponent's ploy. Ramses is of course unaware of such things and closes his eyes again.

His eyesight not getting much better, Euphony tries to aim as best he can and emits a white beam from his mouth. Unfortunately, it's completely off course and collides with a tree, causing bark to fly in different directions. Ramses does his thing and creates a golden translucent shield in front of him to repel any special attacks in the future.

After what seems like forever, Ramses wakes up and finds himself somewhat tired as well as Euphony and his clones shooting off another white beam. The Metang cringes as if he's going to get struck but the beam is again off track and hits another tree. Ramses mentally sighs in relief and uses white stars to get rid of Euphony's clones and deal a bit of damage to the real Swablu:

Okay. Ramses, use Flash to worsen her eyesight. Next, let's take it easy: Icy Wind followed by Confusion.

For the first turn, I want you to close your eyes. Hopefully that'll prevent your vision from worsening. When he uses Icy Wind, Mimic it. And finish up with you own Icy Wind.

Tired from attacking so much, Ramses resorts to emiting a bright light from his horn. Euphony closes his eyes tightly and can see the light behind his closed lids as it envelopes the area but doesn't have any repercusions from it.

As he opens his eyes again, Euphony is blasted by a cold wind. His safeguard prevents his body from getting frozen but that doesn't mean he's shielded from the damage and the cold. He shivers slightly but his body starts to glow. It dies down in a few moments and when he opens his mouth, the same attack flies towards Ramses. It hits the screen in front of him and due to the weakness of the overall attack, it doesn't manage to break through the shield.

Euphony tries again with another icy gale and it still doesn't manage to break through the glass although it's evident that the screen is beginning to weaken. Ramses responds with a wave of psychic energy, which blows the Swablu backwards into a tree although it wasn't as bad as last time. Ramses is starting to grow a little more tired as the battle wears on and Euphony is showing signs of fatigue as well:

In the anime, Mimic lets the Pokemon use the attack on the same round instead of the next round. Quite useful although I don't know if the attack needs to be Mimiced again to be used. For now though, Icy Wind can be used by Euphony whenever

Hmm. Euphony, fly up through the trees and use Sunny Day when you come out of the tops of the trees. Then use Safeguard and try a Secret Power to finish up...

Okay, King Ramses, you're tired. Let's keep it simple. Swagger Euphony, then use Rain Dance after she Sunny Days. Finish by relaxing the rest of the round.

Both trainers decide that their Pokemon are going to take it easy this round. Euphony starts flying up between the trees while creating an orangish ball between his beak. Ramses remains on the ground and thinks about releasing a mist but decides against it as it would make no sense and just floats in place. As soon as he reaches the top of the copse of trees, he releases the ball into the air and before long, the sun comes out and shines brightly.

Ramses can see pricks of sunlight trying to reach into the forest and determines to remedy this by creating an aqua orb and shooting it into the sky. It somehow doesn't collide with any tree and breaks through and goes up even higher. Euphony notices this but doesn't try to stop it and instead creates another veil around himself. The orb disappears but since it's almost impossible to change the weather so quickly by force, mother nature makes a compromise by covering the sky with clouds and obscuring the sun's view.

As Ramses relaxes again, Euphony looks down and stares in confusion as he doesn't remember which opening he came out of. He can't see Ramses or ten feet below the tips of where the trees begin so he makes his best guess and releases a white beam into the sea below him. The beam does end up close to where Ramses actually is but the beam strikes a tree before it can hit the Metang:

King Ramses, get up to where you can see Euphony, then strike with Confusion, Icy Wind, and Sludge Bomb (if time permits). If Euphony gets too close for comfort, knock him away with Thunderpunch.

Hmm... Euphony, have a go at Ice Beaming him, and counter his Icy Wind with your own. If he Sludge Bombs you, try and counter it with another Ice Beam.

As Ramses hurtles upwards through the trees, Euphony waits patiently for his adversary. As soon as they see each other, they charge up their attacks. Ramses is first to strike as it's easier to look upwards for a foe rather than downwards and sends a wave of psychic energy at the Swablu. Euphony cringes in pain but is quick to release an opaque line of ice at Ramses. It hits the fragile screen and breaks through easily enough to hit Ramses, who starts to shiver uncontrollably.

Both Pokemon attack each other at the same time with the same attack. The attacks bypass each other and hit their respective targets, although Euphony takes it a bit harder due to type weakness. Both are feeling a bit sluggish now and take their time with preparing attacks. Ramses releases multiple bits of sludge at Euphony and unfortunately, they're arcing. He has no way to counter all of them so he just shoots the beam straight at the Metang. Both attacks hit and do their damage although Euphony is taking it harder:

Agh! Hmm, Euphony, Sing again cos he's tiring, and if he falls asleep, use Dream Eater twice. If he doesn't fall asleep, use Sunny Day and then Secret Power.

Euphony tries the same tactic he used a few rounds ago and starts to sing. Like before, it produces the same result: Ramses trying to cover the areas where he hears but is unable to do so successfully and drifts to sleep once again. Like before, he falls downwards through the trees and onto the ground and Euphony swiftly follows.

As Ramses lays sleeping, Euphony tries to suck the dreams away from his opponent. Like before however, it does little damage to the Metang and in return, Euphony receives little relief. The Metang mutters quietly soon afterwards and an aqua orb forms above his horn and flies upwards into the trees. A minute later, rain starts falling from the sky and hits the ground below, soaking everyone in the vicinity.

The Swablu tries the same attack again and like before, it does little. Ramses then pulls his arms inwards and stiffens for a few minutes but it slackens afterwards:

It's going to be difficult to cause damage to him as it is, Euphony, so use Icy Wind as long as he's asleep. However, if he wakes up, try and disorientate him by firing Secret Powers in his face. Hah.

Still asleep, Ramses mutters while Euphony expels a chilly wind at him. It slows him down a bit but doesn't prevent him from swinging a bright grey claw at Euphony, who gets thrown back into a tree. He cries out painfully as he falls to the ground but manages to get back into the air again. Ramses meanwhile opens his eyes and smirks after looking at his opponent, who is in obvious pain.

Angered, Euphony shoots out a white beam at Ramses, who gets hit and is propelled back a bit but doesn't feel much pain. He responds with using the same icy gale that has been perfected in past rounds and strikes Euphony, who is chilled and frosted but shakes it off. Both Pokemon repeat their attacks again and Euphony is getting closer and closer to dropping out while Ramses starts to feel nauseous. Looks like the beams caused him to intake poison:
