Default NHL: DiPietro signs 15-year contract

Mad money - Isles give DiPietro record 15-year, $65.7 million deal

Now that's outrageous. The Islanders now have a player who really can't play any position other than goalkeeper, and they've got him until he's 40. As the article mentioned, the only known contract that was longer in North American sports history was the 25-year contract Magic Johnson signed with the NBA's L.A. Lakers in 1981. (If you don't know how that turned out, let's just say that Magic wasn't playing any hoops last year.) Not to mention that he'll get over 10% of the team's maximum payroll for every one of these 15 years.

Well, is this a smart buy, or is it foolish? Is DiPietro worth the unusual move, or will this devastate the Islanders further? What do you think?

[b][size=3]I don't know much about Ice Hockey but however to my knowledge in other sports like basketball and soccer, a contract of more than 6 years is already considered nuts, much less say 15 years which is around twice of that. I really doubt that they had put into much consideration like future long term injuries that could put him out for a few season or even whether if they could guarantee the fans that DiPietro's loyalty wouldn't sway.

Ok...does anyone know who the Islander GM is...Garth Snow...as in the Islanders old backup GOALIE!!

    Hmmm.....

Di Pietro is above average, but chokes down the stretch...

    Not worth it ultimately!!
