Default RMT/Help me make it better!

Nostalgia hits, as it ever-so-frequently does, and the kids in my building have decided to put together a Pokémon tournament for some good hearted competition. I'm trying to think of a team and this is what I have so far in no particular order...

    [b]Poliwrath[b]
    -Surf
    -Submission/Earthquake
    -Amnesia
    -Rest/Hypnosis

The idea behind this is a late game sweeper of sorts. I would go with Submission and Rest for a more power-oriented set or Earthquake/Hypnosis to handle Electrics and cover more types, but with less damage. There's a good chance I'll end up taking Rest over Hypnosis regardless, but the option is still out there.

    Hypno
    -Thunder Wave
    -Psychic
    -Hypnosis
    -Counter

Just a basic set ripped from Smogon. I always liked Hypno back in the day, so I think it'd be worth putting on my team as an alternative to the Alakazams that are going to be all over the place. Thunder Wave will deal with the Alakazams nicely, taking away one of their major advantages with Hypnosis and Counter forcing switches into major damage.

    Tangela
    -Mega Drain
    -Swords Dance
    -Body Slam
    -Sleep Powder/Stun Spore

A nice trick for the opponents. The only grass type that won't be weak to Psychics, it has a high enough Special stat to be able to survive a few hits from an Alakazam. My only issue with this is regarding Stun Spore or Sleep Powder. I've found Paralysis to be, in general, more useful than Sleep, but Sleep just has that extra edge to it with getting free hits that Paralysis doesn't have. Opinions?

From here comes more confusion. There are a few that I'm debating between including on my team for a few reasons, which I'll explain in their descriptions for you guys.

    Persian
    -Slash
    -Bubblebeam
    -Thunderbolt
    -???

    or

    Tauros
    -Blizzard
    -Body Slam
    -Horn Drill
    -Thunderbolt

Ok, now for this. Lack of Hyper Beam is mainly because we're going to be doing this match on Stadium, meaning no loss of recharge time for a KO. But would the ends justify the means in this case? Secondly, I'm not sure if I should go with the higher critical rate of a Persian or the higher Strength of a Tauros. I'm also considering a Kangaskhan in there, too, but I'm not sure of a good set for it.

    Jynx
    -Lovely Kiss
    -Ice Beam
    -Psychic
    -Mimic

I figure she'd be a good starter, but I'm not sure how good it would be to have two Psychic types. Considering the lack of weaknesses Psychics really have, I'm not too worried, but still hesitant. Also, Smogon recommends Blizzard over Ice Beam. Should I heed this suggestion?

For the last one I have no clue right now. I'm thinking a fire, electric type, or a Dragonite would be nice to add in there, but if electric's the case, I'm going to have to take Thunderbolt off of either Persian or Tauros.

And before anything else goes into this from you guys, I'll have to point out some of the restrictions on our little league. First off, we're only allowed to use Red or Blue version. Mainly, we can't have any Yellow, Gold, or Silver trade-backs to work with on our team. Secondly, Sleep Clause is not in effect. Thirdly, no item dupes or any other hacks. The only way you can get an item is if you've gotten it through the progress of the game. What this means is I only get one Thunderbolt, one Thunder Wave, one Psychic, etc.

Anyway, have fun and thanks much!

Jynx: Make your starter, and put Blizzard over Ice Beam

Tauros: Put him in your last slot, and put Hyper Beam over Horn Drill

    Tangela: Fine, put Sleep Powder

Hypno: It's fine, or you can put Seismic Toss over Hypnosis

Poliwrath: Put Hypnosis over Rest. And keep Submission for damaging normals. Earthquake is okay, but Submission is better for STAB.

you need a Ground type, or something that can take hits. Sandslash, Golem, Rhydon? drop Persian...

I'm really not sure about replacing Ice Beam with Blizzard on Jynx. Is there a point to making the substitution in this situation that I'm missing? Because when you factor in the accuracy loss for Blizzard (and Thunder vs. T-Bolt, for that matter), I believe you'd actually do more damage on average by using the weaker attack which hits more often... the exception is Fire Blast, which is always open for debate.

Definitely drop Horn Drill on Tauros. Unless your set is built around OHKO moves - which really isn't very feasible until GSC, when you can either stall well with Rest+Sleep Talk or win fast with Lock On/Mind Reader - it's a waste of a move. Not sure about using Hyper Beam, though, since you'll be playing on Stadium and since you already have Body Slam. I don't have time to check right now, but it seems like you should be able to find a better alternative there. Maybe EQ, to give you another Pokemon that can take out (most) Fire-types? I noticed only one super-effective move against them in the entire rest of your team...

Tangela's Sleep Powder is better for your situation. Spam that sleep!

For Hypno, two conflicting status moves seems like a waste despite your strategy. Since you're not using the sleep clause, I think Hypnosis alone would be fine... again, am I missing something here?

Ha, my team has actually gone through quite the revision since then.

I've dropped Persian in favor of Raticate (Super Fang, Hyper Beam, Focus Energy, and Bubblebeam/Ice Beam). I know it's a gamble, but I think it'd be really fun to whip something like that out and, if it works its magic, have a surprise defeat. After all, the tournament is just for the whole nostalgia of it.

I've already used Thunder Wave on my Hypno, and I certainly don't want to have that TM gone to waste, so I think I'm going to keep it over Hypnosis.

I've actually been contemplating a grass type as Thunder Wave seems to be a popular move so far. Right now I'm leaning towards a Golem to fill that spot. Earthquake, Explosion, Rock Slide, and Body Slam?

I'm thinking of replacing Tangela with a Victreebell. The way things are going, there will be lots of low-defense opponents for me to handle, so a Swords Dancing Victreebell with a move like Wrap coupled with Stun Spore could be nice to handle that, with a nice annoyance factor tied in there. However, I'm not sure another Psychic weakness is desirable.

Leading with Jynx is what I'll probably end up doing; Lovely Kiss with that kind of speed simply can't be put to waste...

I may be replacing Poliwrath with either Tentacruel or Lapras. As it is, I don't really have a strong special attacker and Poliwrath isn't exactly helping with that. I'm just not sure if Speed would be better to a lack of Psychic weakness. For Tentacruel I'd be going with Surf, Supersonic, Ice Beam/Blizzard, and Wrap.

What it looks like in an easier to read form...

    Jynx
    -Lovely Kiss
-Blizzard (Blizzard has 90% accuracy in RBY as opposed to 70%)
    -Psychic
    -Reflect

    Raticate
-Hyper Beam/Hyper Fang (If the recharge time just isn't good for it)
    -Super Fang
    -Focus Energy
-Ice Beam/Bubblebeam/Blizzard (depends on how the teams start to develop)

    Golem
    -Explosion
    -Earthquake
    -Rock Slide
    -Body Slam

    Victreebell
    -Swords Dance
    -Wrap/Body Slam
    -Razor Leaf
-Stun Spore/Sleep Powder (depending on Wrap or Body Slam)

    Hypno
    -Thunder Wave
    -Psychic
    -Seismic Toss
    -Counter

    Tentacruel
    -Surf
    -Ice Beam/Blizzard
    -Wrap
    -Supersonic

Lots of the moves are dependent on which TMs I eventually decide to give to each Pokémon, so advice regarding that would be nice. Raticate has a special move mainly so it can effect the Ghost types that may switch in to it, provided I don't make sure to take them out first.

Your team looks pretty standard, though try going with Rest somewhere on Golem.
