Is it just me or do we have a bit of a problem with Ref's at the min.
I understand that people have lives of their own etc but i was just looking through the battles recently posted and at least 3 people have said something along the lines of 'well ill challenge you but in my last few battles ive had trouble getting refs' and indeed i have just taken on a battle and at the moment were still waiting for a ref.
Do any of the ref's have any thoughts? Do we simply not have enough refs? Do we need better incentives to be a ref??

Without them there can be no ASB unless of course you expect the Mods to ref Every match.

Eh.. one of the reasons Refs may be hard to find right now (it's been the reason I've been busy, for one thing) is that Midterms are coming up again. I have two new tests this week, and have to turn in the final draft of my Research paper.. so... it.. eh... doesn't give you much time to Ref. Unfortunately, you do have to put study time in in each of your classes, and that can just add up. XD

I can understand that Saffire but as i said in the original post ive had trouble getting a ref for nearly 6 months. All my battles are ending as we cant find anyone. Ive had a battle waiting for a ref now for nearly 3 weeks. Its not a 'just now' kinda thing.

If you think 3 weeks is bad, try 4 months. MLG left Andrew and Mine's Melee due to other priorities and we've since not had a ref.

Bah, if it's really going to be just that short, I could do it... provided I wouldn't have to take the ref test, being too lazy. I could just give you links to some of my other reffings if you needed proof that I can do it.

Damn shortage of refs... I swear to God/Allah/Buddha/Ra/Quetzalcoatl/Brahma/Aengana/Tao/Shinto/Flying Space Banana that if I have to come out of retirement for this, there'll be Hell to pay.

And according to the current exchange rate, Hell is pretty expensive nowadays.

While I'm here bored out of my skull, I'd like to address another issue that seems to be prevalent nowadays: Gym Leaders. One of our Gym Leaders has left ASB, one of them (as well as his opponent) has dropped off the face of the Earth, and one of them is too damn drunk and/or lazy to do much of anything Gym-oriented nowadays. That leaves us with 3 Gym Leaders...

We have to start discussing the possibility of nominating new Gym Leaders - we need at least two more.

So, who do we have that's capable of taking on this job? Any nominations?

I personally think that, even though I was nominated by a couple of people (Flattering, yes, but I doubt I'm the right guy for the job at the moment.), the people who've already beaten Gym Leaders may be best suited for the job.

Any thoughts on this matter?

Hm. I know nothing about the gym leader scene, so alas I have no nominations should it come to that. I'm sitting here wracking my brains trying to figure out ways to sort of almost fix the ref shortage... there must be something... some sort of little incentive or something? I dunno... I mean, an incentive wouldn't help the people who are busy, but, eh... I'm drawing a blank.

ASB has had a ref shortage for years. I created the catch/evolution reward as an incentive (or at least I think I did) but not since 2002 have there been enough refs to satisfy every battle

As for GLs, there has been discussions among us as to who takes over Dan's spot and since Liang isn't as reliable as he once was, we may need to replace him as well. If end of semester crap wasn't eating me up, I would be more proactive but such is college

Last month we asked members who they thought could be a Gym Leader in this very thread. And since there was a very low response, we've been looking over possible candidates ourselves.

What exactly are you wanting to know, Blademaster? Since we haven't even drawn a final list of candidates it seems odd to suddenly inform people "here are the 10 people we're almost sort of close to considering about asking for the GL post."

On the topic of refs, I know I've been slacking which is funny cuz I got member of the month for being so active ^_^. Like Saf' this quarter of classes I'm taking are REALLY binding all my time plus I work 40 hours a week so you guy's aren't just feeling the pain; I don't get to see my girl or my son much either. I work on my reffing periodically though, when ever I get a free chance I take a saved one I'm working on and fine tune it till its ready to go.

Blademaster, we also don't sell cola or soft-drinks here, they simply rot your teeth. This is a high class alfresco Cafe that overlooks the beach! A nice wooden/steel/glass theme. Lots of light and you can step rightonto the beach!

But here's some of the lunch options:

Baked Chicken, Leek and Parmesan Risotto
Beef Satay
Lamb Vindaloo
OzBurger - A Kangaroo steak on a multigrain roll. Beetroot, Lettuce, Tomato, Spicy Relish and cheese.

Also there's the all day breakfast or the breakfast pizza.

Drinks:
We have a good range of wines. I like a good whinge myself.

Mimeshakes - Your flavour at the bottom, a scoop of ice cream, some more flavouring, milk and another scoop of ice cream topped off with some garnish. If it's Chocolate, you get shaved Lindt, strawberries, you get some fresh slices of it. Honeycomb is delicious, but my favourite is a Choc-Banana mix.

Otherwise, it's a great bar with some awesome bartenders who make your drink THAT much better. Whether it be Gin, Scotch, Vodka, Jagermeister or a plain old beer, it's all done with proper class. As such the prices reflect that. I don't want any damn hobos or homo-hobos in my establishment, after all, my insurance and rent prices are so high seeing as I'm on prime real estate!

There was no official voting at all (although someone did 'nominate' Blademaster for a position when we explained about new GL's in last months chat). We did get a few PMs reccomending people, and we did take them into consideration somewhat.

However we did feel that voting for Gym Leaders may result in people being voted for all the wrong reasons. Ie you may nominate a friend or someone who's funny and popular, when what we need is good skill in ASB and expirience.

However I think few can disagree with the new Gym Leaders choices.

Whoa, new leaders. Congrats to River, MLG and Elec, then. Although I was under the impression that only two new leaders would be chosen... you know, just to replace Dan and Liang. Whatever. When I actually have time, perhaps I shall challenge someone.

Oh, and by the by... surely there must be at least one ref out there interested in overseeing a nice and rowdy tag match? Pweez? This one? I'll go and ask over at the Reffing Tower, too, of course, but... eh... anyway.

not all matches are up yet. For those which are, please check to see if it's your turn to attack or ref a round. This tournament will not work if it drags on and I won't keep it hosted if it just slides around aimlessly. This has the potential to be a really quirky, interesting tournament we just need everyone to pitch in!

Seems my comment on voting confused people... I figured there was no real voting. But surely there was some sort of deliberation ("voting" if you will) on the mod side of things, hence the comment. Unless Chris just pulled people out of a hat :p.

D/P release is getting close. Woot. Just a heads up to everyone, I'll probably be taking at least a week off from ASB to play Pearl. I've not been keeping up with all the details and pokemon, as I want to keep the experience "fresh" rather than knowing everything off the bat like I did with R/S (well, not everything, but quite a lot). I expect a rush of people catching D/P pokemon as soon as they can, so it'd be rather counter productive for me to be around when the pokemon start flying. I'll post in the absence tower as well eventually, of course.

We are expecting to launch DP on May 1st. This will include:

-The Attack List V2

-The DP Giveaway

-New Safari Zone areas and DP Pokemon available in current zones

-DP Pokemon available for catching in the Approval Tower

-Current Pokemon can evolve into new DP forms (Roselia, Electabuzz, etc)

-Current Pokemon with new pre-evolutions cannot be caught at the Approval Tower (Roselia, Chimecho, Sudowoodo, Mr Mime, Mantine, Chansey, Snorlax, etc)

-DP Pokemon can hatch from Eggs (also some new Egg Groups will be introduced)



And much more. We are also going to be introducing Hidden Power into ASB and looking over all old attacks to make it concise and accurate!
