Vince
9:43pm.
"Shit!" Vince cursed as he wandered deeper into the forest, looking around desperately for a partner. It'd had been a half hour since he started looking, but he still hadn't found anyone.
'This is ridiculous!' Vince thought bitterly. 'What kind of university is this?! It's totally abandoned!'
Vince looked up at the night sky.
'And it's so dark I can barely see anymore...'
Vince removed the front Pokeball from his belt and tossed it forward.
"Suzaku, come forth!"
The Poke Ball burst open, and in a flash of white light, Vince's powerful Blaziken appeared; his Poke Ball bounced back to Vince's hand, where it was promptly replaced.
"Blazikeeeeen!!" Suzaku bellowed in a guttural voice.
"Suzaku, flare up those wrists." Vince instructed. "We need some light out here."
"Blaz." Suzaku replied with a nod, his wrists flaring to life, producing a bright pair of torches that cut through the darkness like a hot knife through butter.
"We have only ten minutes left to find a partner." Vince muttered, partly to himself, partly to Suzaku, and partly to no one in particular.
"Blaziken..." Suzaku replied. "Blaziken-blaz, blaziken blaziken-ken blaz...iken......"
Suzaku stopped dead.
"Suzaku...?" Vince said, looking back at his Pokemon. "Suzaku, what is it?"
Suzaku raised a claw, signalling for Vince to be quiet; the fiery fowl closed his eyes, his horns twitching ever-so-slightly.
"Blaziken... Blaziken..." he whispered, turning his head to and fro.
Finally, the Blaziken's eyes snapped open; he spun around exactly 140 degrees clockwise, teeth gritted and clawed fists at the ready.
"BLAZIKEN! BLAZE!" he barked.
Vince rushed to his Pokemon's side and assumed a fighting stance.
"Who's there?!" he demanded. "Come out and show your face!"
A few seconds later, the bushes parted, and out stepped a red-haired girl in a denim jacket and shorts. She seemed disoriented, and was sweating and panting heavily.
She looked at Vince and his Blaziken for a moment, her eyes filled with uncertainty, but after a moment, she turned around, then back to Vince.
"Help me...!" she cried, approaching Vince as quickly and cautiously as she could.
"Suzaku, stand down." Vince said after a moment; he stepped forward, looking at the girl oddly. "Who are you? You looking for a par-"
"My name's Akira." she interrupted, trying to get behind Vince and his Pokemon. "This guy... He was trying to... He want-"
"Say no more." Vince said, his expression so dark it was almost indiscernable from the shadows of the dark forest around him. "I understand perfectly. Where is he?"
As if on cue, a tall figure burst through the trees where Akira had first arrived from; he was clutching his chest and glaring daggers at Akira.
"There you are..." he growled, taking a menacing step forward. "You have got a lot of nerve, Akira... That's something I admire, but not when-"
"Is that him?" Vince interjected, looking at Akira.
"Yes..." she whispered.
Vince turned back to the newcomer and took a step forward.
"Alright, douchebag," he snarled, "I'm gonna give you until the count of one to get your busted-ass ribs and your ugly face outta my sight..."
He snapped his fingers; Suzaku took a step forward, an aura of flames surrounding his body.
"...Or my friend here opens fire. On you."
The man glared at Vince, his teeth gritted, when suddenly his expression seemed to soften.
"Wait a moment..." he said. "I know you..."
Vince's expression didn't change.
"Good for you." he said, holding up a single finger. "One-"
"Vincent." Chris said, a strange smile crossing his face. "Vincent Lancaster..."
Vince raised an eyebrow.
"...OK." he said, stepping up in front of Suzaku so as to deter him from attacking just yet. "I'll bite. Where the Hell did you learn my name from?"
"Let's just say you ran into a few of my classmates earlier today." the man replied.
"Those gutter punks trying to mug that kid, I bet." Vince sneered.
The man chuckled.
"You're a fast learner..." he commented.
"And I bet you're a fast burner." Vince said. "Now you've got two seconds to tell me your name before I test that theory myself."
"My name is Chris Coleman." he replied. "Perhaps you've heard of me..."
Vince rubbed his chin.
"Ummmm..." he mused. "Hmmmmmmmmmm... Uh... Oh, wait... You're that Contest coordinating fruit... or something..."
Chris scowled.
"I'm a camp coordinator, for your information." he sneered. "And I'm also a senior - didn't anybody ever teach you to respect your elders?"
"Didn't anyone ever teach you to respect women, you sorry sack of shit?" Vince shot back, gesturing to Akira.
Chris chuckled.
"Oh, she merely overreacted to-"
"Spare me the bullshit, fairy; she already told me everything I needed to know." Vince snapped.
Chris frowned.
"Funny... That isn't the way I heard it..." he said.
"I don't give a fuck WHAT you heard or WHO you are!" Vince hollered, stepping out of Suzaku's way. "This is your final warning: Leave NOW, or Suzaku charbroils your ass!"
"You're just asking to be expelled, aren't you?" Chris asked mockingly. "You could be expelled just for threatening me with a Pokemon, in fact..."
"If I go, I take you with me." Vince said. "Once word gets out about your little liaison with Akira, you'll be out on your ass before I even am."
Chris paused for a moment, deep in thought.
"So be it." he said. "I'll leave you be for now. But one word out of you - either of you - and you'll learn first-hand why you don't screw around with the-"
"Suzaku...!" Vince started; flames welled in the back of Suzaku's throat...
"Alright, alright!" Chris snapped. "You made your point already!"
With that, Chris turned and walked off between the trees.
"This isn't over..."
"Yeah, yeah..." Vince mumbled. "Smug piece of shit... I oughta send Suzaku after him anyway..."
"Thank you..." Akira sighed behind him. "You saved my life... Or, my virginity, at the very least."
"Don't mention it." Vince replied. "My team has no tolerance towards people like that; the fact that these assholes run the campus is enough to make me question whether coming here was a good idea or not."
Akira paused, smiling slightly.
"Well... at any rate, I'm glad you came here..." she said softly. "The world could always use more heroes."
"Heroes?" Vince echoed. "Me, a hero? Huh, more like I'm always in the wrong place at the right time."
"And being in that place saved me and that kid he mentioned, didn't it?" Akira asked sweetly.
"...I guess so." Vince replied, looking at his Poketch again.
9:54pm.
"Shit..." he mumbled. "Six minutes until the Test starts and I still don't have a partner..."
Akira giggled.
"Oh yes you dooo-ooo...!" she said in a sing-song voice.
Vince looked up at her.
"It's the least I can do for my savior, isn't it?" she said, smiling warmly at the dwarf.
Vince just stared at her for a moment.
He'd just saved this somewhat ditzy from a creep from one of the highest castes on the campus, and now she was repaying him by joining him in his first chance to prove his merit at LVU...
'...Shit.'
