    Default Pern: A Dragonrider's Tale [lé sign-ups]

    Pern
    A Dragonrider’s Tale
    An RPG by Weasel Overlord
(Based on the Pern Universe, by Anne McCaffrey)

    Seas boil and mountains move,
    Sands heat, dragons prove;
    Red Star passes.
    Stones pile and fires burn
    Green wither, arm Pern.
    Guard all passes.
    Star Stone watch, scan sky.
    Ready the weyrs, all riders fly;
    Red Star passes.

But the Red Star has not passed in over two hundred turns, and common opinion is that Thread is no more. But if Thread is no more, then why is it that for turns now, dragon clutches have been growing steadily larger? What are the Star Stones for, if not to watch for the presence of the Red Star in the sky?

The answers to these many questions are not easily found, and we can but wait; outlast these dissenting Holds who scorn their dragonriders openly.
But can we stand against Weyr, at the same time? When Thread is in the sky, dragonmen must fly.

    But there is no Thread.

Only fighting amongst ourselves, dragonrider pitted against dragonrider in war that should never have come to pass.

But it is to the glory of Impression that we turn our eyes and hearts today, for golden Nemath has clutched at Benden once more, and there are fourteen mighty eggs on the hatching ground. Candidates from all over Pern gather, hope lighting their eyes at the thought of riding one of our mighty dragons.

The humming reverberates through every silent watcher, growing intense in pitch until, to a gasp of awe, the first egg begins to crack.
    It begins.

    -----*-----

Okay! The back-story is this. Set in the First Long Interval between Passes, war is rife between Holder and Weyrleader. No Thread has fallen for over two hundred years, and not many still believe that it will ever fall again.

Benden Weyr stands firm in its belief, however, and it is here that our story begins. With fourteen brand new dragonriders and their dragons, lead by the first golden queen to be clutched in twenty years.

A Weyr is where the dragons and their riders live. They are huge structures made of stone, with chambers large enough to fit a fully grown dragon.
Rooms for riders are called weyrs and have a stone couch for the dragons to sleep on, and a separate sleeping chamber for the rider, who sleeps on a simple cotbed.

Most other inhabitants of Pern live in Holds, smaller cotholds or Crafthalls. The main Holds are all labelled on the map and cotholds are scattered in between them.

The Crafthalls are where each craft of Pern is perfected and taught. Since crafts form the basis of Pern’s economy, they are extremely important in everyday life.

Ranks in the crafts go from Apprentice to Journeyman and finally to Master.
Some examples of major crafts are the Harpers (who are responsible for teaching children, and providing entertainment), Healers (self-explanatory), Beastcraft, Mining and Smithcraft.

Dragons have the ability to teleport through space instantaneously, through a method called going Between. Between is pitch black and deadly cold, and nothing can survive there. However, each dragon-jump takes about three heartbeats to complete.

Before a dragon can go Between, their rider must visualise their destination clearly, for fear of mis-jumping and ending up inside a mountain or somewhere equally grisly.

So there are fourteen dragonrider places to be taken, and five types of dragon overall.
Important Note: Pernese dragons are smooth-skinned. So no scales please. ^_^
See included pictures for details. (although for some colours it’s stupidly hard to get pics for. re: green/brown)
Also, they have multifaceted eyes which alter colour depending on the dragon’s mood. Green or blue is contentment, yellow is alarm and red is anger.

Gold: The gold dragon is the queen, and the only fertile female. Golden-skinned, her colouring can vary from a pale, almost yellow-gold to a darker, almost burnished colour.
She grows to a size of 38 to 45 metres long from tail-tip to snout, and is mated by the dragon who can catch her in her mating flight. This is usually a Bronze, although a fast Brown has been known to catch her upon occasion.
The golden queen’s rider is always female.

Bronze: The bronze dragons are always male, and most often the mates of the golden queen. Their colouring is a golden-green shimmer, but can often vary to a darkness which is almost brown.
The bronze grows to a size of 35 to 38 metres, and their riders are always male.

Brown: The brown dragons are always male, and have been known on occasion to be fast enough to fly a golden queen. Their colouring ranges from a pale tan to a deep chocolate brown shade.
The browns grow to a size of between 30 and 35 metres, and their riders are most often male, but have been known to be female on occasion.

Blue: Blue dragons are always male, and have been known to have female riders as well as male. Their hide colouring ranges through the whole spectrum of blues, from a pale, sky blue to a dark, stormy shade.
They grow to a size of between 25 and 30 metres, and their mating is kept strictly to the greens.

Green: A green dragon is always female, but as she has to chew firestone to fight Thread, they are also infertile. The greens are the smallest dragons, growing to between a size of 20 to 25 metres, and they mate only with blues.
A green rider can be either male or female.

Now, as for what dragons are available, this is the list of the colours I figured out to be in Nemath’s clutch. ^_^

Gold: Tamanth, played by Weasel Overlord
    -
    Bronze: Larsith, played by Bulbasaur4
    Bronze: Reserved by Inferno_Dragon
    -
Brown: Lahlileth the Forgotten, played by Plantae

    Blue: Burganth, played by Mystic_Clown
    Blue: Joseth, played by Zcade0
    Blue:
    -
Green: Kraellath, played by Hyperness is a Good Thing
Green: Volath, played by Crystal Tears
Green: Kilnth, played by Crazy Elf Boy
    Green: Kirenth, played by Dark-San

Feel free to reserve any colour you like, and if places fill up too quickly, I will allow some non-dragonrider characters too, so pm me if you’re interested in one of those roles.

If you aren’t familiar with any of the terms I’ve used, or are completely oblivious about the Pern universe in general, see this handy guide I’ve compiled. (in progress) And if that doesn’t work, feel free to prod me on either messy_hair_welcome@msn.com (msn) or Astarielle15 (AIM) where your questions will be answered as in-depthly as I can possibly manage. ^_^

Here are the sign-up forms. Top is Rider, bottom is Dragon.

Name: Pernese often don’t have surnames, so those aren’t necessary.
Gender: Male or female please. See dragon colours.
    Age: Between 15 and 20.
Dragon: Choose from Bronze, Brown, Blue or Green.
Searched From: See the included map and world-details. This is basically your home, or where you lived before you were Searched and brought to the Weyr.
If you want to, you can be Weyrbred, or from Benden Weyr itself.
Heritage: Your parents, and any other important things about your family.
Appearance: Duuh. Don’t want any unnatural hair colours or anything like that though.
Personality: I repeat. Duuh. Although I’d like to note that Pernese children are most often fostered to other mothers, so orphans with tragic backgrounds will not be welcomed. ^_~
    History:
    Other: Maim at will.

Name: Of your dragon. They all have some sort of “th” in them. Like Tamanth, Nemath, Filenth, &c. &c.
    Gender: See dragon colours.
Colour: Bronze, Brown, Blue or Green.
Appearance: Colouring, size as a hatchling and you can include size at full-growth if you like. It’s gonna be a fast-moving RPG.
Personality: Always compliments that of their rider.

    -

My sign-up. Follow my lead. ^_^

    Name: Rinna
    Gender: Female
    Age: 19
    Dragon: Gold Tamanth
    Searched From: Harperhall, Fort Hold
Heritage: Daughter of Journeyman Rin and Copyist Talanna
Appearance: Rinna stands at about five foot six inches, and she has hair of a sort of, rusty brown colour tinged with red in places, like a horse chestnut. ^_^
Her hair is clipped short to keep it out of her eyes when she plays and it has tight little curls.
She has particularly long and slender fingers which delighted her parents, as they ensured that she was particularly dextrous in the playing of most instruments, although she excels most at the flute.
Her eyes are a steely grey, framed by dark lashes, and she has a lengthy scar which crosses over her right eye, and traces down her cheek until it tapers out. She got this scar when she over-tuned a guitar when she was younger, and the string snapped and tore into her face. Luckily her vision wasn’t impaired, but it left a deep and lasting scar that makes Rinna look somewhat roguish. She likes to tell people more exciting stories about her scar, so it’s probably for the best if you automatically disbelieve her if you ask how she got it.
She prefers to wear simple clothes in the harper blue favoured by her parents and the entire crafthall, and most often she can be seen wearing a simple tunic in this blue over trousers in a soft grey. Even after she’s Searched, she continues to wear harper blue, though lately she’s taken to wearing more gold than grey or silver, as a sort of unconscious tribute to Tamanth.
Personality: Often known as a bit of a compulsive liar, it’s more that Rinna has a Harper’s natural wit and she particularly relishes embellishing a tale so much that it no longer resembles the one it started out as. For people who don’t know her, this can be extremely irritating, as it’s often very hard to get the truth of a situation out of her. Especially if she finds it particularly exciting or dramatic.
She loves music with all her heart, as can only be expected from a Harper’s child, and she is most often heard humming some tune or another, or singing some tawdry song. She has a love of all things dramatic, and although her singing voice is nothing to write home about (ie: it’s terrible) she adores singing lengthy ballads about lost loves and epic battles for freedom against evil oppressors.
Although she has quite a pleasing soprano, she simply cannot hold a note, and as a result of this, she threw herself into instrument-playing. Her favourite is the drums, even though she’s better at the flute. The deep tones of a well-made drum and the steady, solid beats appeal to her more than the light, almost insubstantial sound of a flute.
She has a loud and generally enthusiastic nature, inspired by being a girl among drummers, who also tend to be loud and, well, very loud, really. It’s all that drumming.
She really likes food, too. She’ll often have at least two or three helpings of anything that’s being served; once again, a product of living in the drum dorms among loud, hungry, food-grabbing drummer-boys.
History: She grew up in the normal way for a child in the Harperhall. As soon as she was old enough, she started to learn all things musical. Music is in her blood, Rinna has Harper heritage from as far back as any records say, so it was only natural that she excelled as she did. Despite her natural talent for instruments, however, she never got the hang of singing, no matter how many lessons she took, much to the chagrin of her voice tutor.
She was passable at crafting instruments, but after the guitar-incident, decided that she wanted nothing more to do with strings, and as soon as she was of a suitable age, she moved into the drum-tower, to focus her attentions on the complex drumrolls and sequences. There was general surprise at her decision, as boys generally prefer the drum-tower over anything else, but since Rinna’s father specialised in lengthy, drum-accompanied ballads, she’d grown up around them and their constant, steady beat. She ignored the teasing of other girls her age who’d chosen to take up more ladylike instruments, such as harp or flute, and threw herself into her drumming; fitting in extremely well with the rowdy group of boys she lived with.
Although her mother would have loved for Rinna to take up copying, her hand was only passable, and far too untidy to be of any real use.
Other: Always carries around a pair of ornately carved drumsticks. They were a gift from her father once she became a drum-apprentice.

    Name: Tamanth
    Gender: Female
    Colour: Gold
Appearance: Tamanth is just over a metre in length, from tail-tip to snout. Her skin is a dark, burnished gold, which is almost antique in colour. This colouring is somewhat reminiscent of the gold you get on ancient Egyptian burial masks, heavy-looking with a perfect sheen.
As she is an extremely relaxed dragon, Tamanth’s eyes tend towards staying the calm blue and green of a happy and contented dragon, although she is extremely protective of Rinna, and so if anyone even slightly threatens her, she is swift to jump to anger.
Personality: Tamanth is the epitome of relaxed dragon. She perfectly counters Rinna’s loudness with her quiet but purposeful personality. She is soft-spoken, and prefers a simple and direct way of speaking; unlike Rinna who embellishes and flourishes and is generally over-the-top.
She carries an intense amusement for Rinna’s Harpering habits and she loves to listen to the elaborate tales her rider comes up with.
While it could be said that Tamanth is lazy, she has a real love of flying, but she is a deep believer in only being active when it is absolutely necessary, and lounging around in the sun at any other time.

Default A Form Is In Order

To show my devotion, and as I have been discussing this with Kirsten for days, my form is already finished, amazingly-like. In interest of keeping the topic concise (which this verbosity veers towards violating) I will simply say that this link leads to my sign-up, and then pander off, to occupy myself with other matters, etcetera.

Can I reserve Bronze please? I love Pern and since the other RPGs are going slowly ... I thought I would put my interest in this one ... just in case the others don't. If they do, I am only in 3 RPGs right now. One more can't kill me right ... I will have the sign-up tomorrow ... if that is alright.

Edit: Brown, Bronze ... they sound alike don't they?

Fritz: So, Prue, I hear your friend’s a cop.
    Prue: Inspector, actually.
Fritz: Oh, yeah. (to Andy) Well, I got these parking tickets...
Andy: Yeah, my focus is mainly homicide, robbery.
Fritz: Yeah. Yeah. So I have these parking tickets...

Default Re: Pern: A Dragonrider's Tale [lé sign-ups]

Name: Siglavy; shortened form - Sig
    Gender: Female
    Age: 15
    Dragon: Brown Myrreth
    Searched From: Beastcrafthall, Keroon Hold
Heritage: Daughter of Dragonriders Sigurd and M'lav [Melavy]
Appearance: Rough sketch here, colours not included. A smallish girl about 5' 3" in height. During her apprenticeship in Keroon, Siglavy was out grazing herds in the sun so much that most of her hair, which was more mousy brown than blonde, is now a bleached flaxen hue; the dark blonde roots still show through, though, so it's kind of a grubby two-tone. Said hair is slightly wavy, kept back by a cotton indigo-print bandana that is wide enough to cover her forehead from hairline to eyebrow, and is pulled into a long, high ponytail. The bandana is occasionally worn around her neck, depending on the occasion.
Siglavy is possessed of a pugnacious chin that she pushes out whenever she's vexed or being particularly stubborn. Her eyes are large and orangey-brown, though they're not so noticeable because of her habitual squint. Oftimes people think she's trying to witchify their nose off when she's not staring at anything in particular.
She used to be susceptible to outbreaks of freckles, but there was such a proliferation of them that eventually, they all ran together and became a tan.
Her clothes are relics of her grassland days. Siglavy usually wears a cream-coloured poncho with a high, reinforced collar lined with fuzz (don't ask why fuzz, it's aesthetically pleasing) over short-sleeved tunic-shirts cropped to just above her midriff. (Again, I cite aesthetically pleasing.) Her trousers are mainly some boring shade of worn indigo, kept up by a pair of belts worn crosswise, and are tucked into coarse leather boots that come midway up her calves.
Personality: Siglavy's a hard and conscientious worker. She's very earnest about everything, although this is tempered with a certain shyness that keeps her from getting too annoying. She is a reserved person by nature, and speaks slowly and deliberately when required to. Once she's warmed up to someone she'll begin talking without waiting to be talked to first. She is generally polite; the courtesy level drops significantly with people she doesn't like. She is very practical and not given to flights of fancy.
She takes what other people say very seriously, so in a way, she's impervious to sarcasm, and will indeed look about for bells if you tell her to pull the other one that has bells on. She's not stupid, though, she knows when someone is being not quite pleasant - she just wants to make sure that there aren't bells lurking about, somewhere, and how dangerous are these bells you are referring to, anyway? Incidentally, this also means she responds spectacularly to direct insults.
Has an excellent memory. Keeps grudges of varying intensity.
She has a distrust of dragons, as they offend her code of practicality - runners for riding, herdbeasts for meat and leather, etc; despite their role in fighting Thread, there is no Thread at the moment, and so dragons are 'functionless' to Siglavy's mind. Struggling against this ingrained lack of imagination is a clandestine love of harper's tales of romance and adventure, and she is always among those in the front row when journeymen harpers stop by at the Hall to ply their craft.
History: Her parents both being dragonriders in Benden Weyr, Siglavy was nonetheless not raised in the Weyr because as a child she showed little interest in dragons, which persists to the present date (currently she tolerates Myrreth, but sees more of donkey than dragon in his physical and mental makeup). Dragonriders Sigurd and M'lav are not 'properly married', though they were quite prolific in their day, having numerous children both with each other and with other dragonriders in the Weyr. Of their issue, Siglavy has met the twins Merlow and Glaive, five years her senior, who were also apprenticed in the Keroon Beastcrafthall where they were sent to live with their maternal grandmother.
Life in Keroon Hold was uneventful, and she would have been made journeyman in the next round of appointments had she not been Searched.
When she was ten she found a bandit hiding in her sheep. Being young and foolish and still of the thought that bandits were dashing, mysterious and romantic, she did not turn him in to the proper authorities. Inigo Enrique Falzon soon proved her youthful thinking processes to be wrong, however. Since then, despite Siglavy's efforts to stop him, he has persisted in returning to the Beastcrafthall and using it as a hiding place. It also vexes Siglavy that her sister Merlow only seems to encourage these clandestine return trips.
When she was thirteen, she found a sobbing young boy in the midst of her flock of sheep. She comforted the boy, a budding prodigy in the field of alchemy, and promptly became Reuxus' surrogate older sister figure.
She has met her parents twice, and then only in passing; she cannot recognise them on sight. She feels nothing towards them beyond a sort of vague regret, and a wish that she knew them better.
Other: Good at handling most, if not all of the various classes of tamed beasts - herdbeasts, draybeasts, milchbeasts and burdenbeasts. She is particularly communicative with runners [horses] and ovines [sheep].

    Name: Myrreth
    Gender: Male
    Colour: Brown
Appearance: Slightly smaller than the average length of a newly hatched brown dragon, with a perpetually woeful downturn of the snout; no matter how much Myrreth eats, he never grows beyond his 'smaller-than-average-yet-not-small-enough-to-be-small' status, and is as thin as a rake, his joints being somewhat akin to the knobbliest of knobs. He is questionably brown. The actual colour is closer to a tawny puce, much to Myrreth's own chagrin. This sandy, rosy colour that has taken over large areas of his hide is curtailed at the snout, head-knobs, tailtip, wingtips and knees by an equally incongruous and no less virulent shade of copper-tinged burgundy. He moves with little grace, being knock-kneed and slouchy of posture.
Myrreth's eyes are a noncommittal, washed-out buff most of the time; this colour is assumed to be the dragon eye colour denoting bleakness of spirit. On his good days, they turn dull aquamarine.
Personality: Myrreth is a wet blanket of the highest caliber. His hobbies include wallowing in lost hopes, sitting in the corner frowning for no reason at all, injecting dreariness into every occasion, and claiming that no one understands him, except Siglavy. He is rather quiet and does not usually voice out his prophecies of doom and gloom to anyone but Siglavy, though his aura of dejection is apparently potent enough that other Riders can sense it immediately.
It is better not to ask whether Myrreth finds happiness in pursuit of depression, or if he finds depression in the pursuit of happiness.
Despite this, Myrreth has been known to exhibit a sardonic side of his personality at times, escalating to mild sarcasm and snark in his better moods. He is actually a very thoughtful creature, displaying good memory recall for a dragon - when he can be coerced to come out of his self-induced Eeyoreness, that is.

Oh em eff gee....PERN RPG!!! Congrats Weasel, you've successfully gained my attention. I LOVE the Pern series! I started a Pern RPG myself a while back, but it died sadly...
I don't have time to do a profile at the moment, but save me a brown slot, please! I'll spend my work day tomorrow formulating a good Pernese character! W00t!

Oh, and as a devoted Pern-lover, I feel the need to mention add that when a person Impresses a Dragon (except for females, since it's so rare), their names are shortened to show their status. For example (from one of the books), Keegan would become K'gan, and Faranor would become F'nor. Or something like that. Did you want to keep that Weasel, or are we just sticking with the full names? I suppose it doesn't really matter, but I just felt the need to ask. ^_^

Goddamnit, I KNEW I'd forget to mention something. *slaps head* Yes, everyone take notice. Dragonriders' names shorten after Impression.

And yup, everyone ish reserved! I can't believe it... I come back to a ton of replies! This makes a weasel happy, it surely does. ^_____^

EDIT: Oh, also. Right, this is gonna start as soon as all places are filled. I plan to keep sign-ups open until next Monday, unless the last four are taken before then. Also, apologies for anyone who's a bit late... there's not so much choice left now, alas.

So basically, even if your sign-ups aren't finished by Monday, I'll start it anyway. So try and get them done quick-sharp, lol. It's always annoying having to wait around for weeks until an RPG starts, so I plan for this one to be fairly fast-moving. ^_^

    Name: Isaac

    Gender: Male

    Age: 17

    Dragon: Blue

    Searched From: Telger Hold

    Heritage: Traders Aaron and Emika

Appearance: Black hair, very, very dark brown eyes, with pale skin. 5' 8" tall. of medium build with slightly noticable muscles, though not very big (hence, strong, but not lift-the-house-up strong).

Personality: Dry and sarcastic. Very hard to get along with initially, but once you get to know him and he starts to trust you, he'll take a bullet for you. Well, not really. No bullets here... Seems to have a fear of the Southern Continent. Has a very strong bond with his dragon, as for all his life wanted nothing more than to be free of any restraint. This means flying is basically his life goal.

History: Grew up with his parents business, so he quickly learned the job. He's expected to take over for his father eventually. He started taking extended journeys before eventually becoming a full-fledged vagabond. This is how all the trouble in the South started... Has a very poor sens of property, if you catch my drift. Many a person ends up a few coins shorter after meeting him.

Other: Considered armed an dangerous by the authorities in Cove Hold. Long story. Also, a sword was involved, and a lot of money... possibly a female accomplice. To be apprehended once seen and returned to the authorities there if found.

Name: Joseth (a.k.a. joseph with a th)

    Gender: Male

    Colour: Blue

Appearance: A dark, navy blue, with a lighter blue on the underside of the wings and the belly of the beast. Is approx. length at birth is about half a meter.

Personality: Fun and easygoing. Takes everything lightly (as apposed to his serious rider), and has been known on more than one occasion to he a bit... light-fingered. Or clawed, as it may be.

    Name: Tanellin to be T'lin
    Gender: Female
    Age: 18
    Dragon: Blue
    Searched From: Bendon Hold (servant)
Heritage: Fairly boring, her mother was a serving woman in the Lord and Lady's household. She has been since she was a kid and fostered in. Tanellin absolutely hates her lot in life and every time the Dragonriders have come by she has put herself forward. Her father tends to the Lord's runnerbeasts. She often got into fights and came very close to being tossed out numerous times.
Appearance: Around 5'8 with brown skin and shoulder length black hair. From waaaaaaaay back she is of Indian descent. Her hair has a slight way to it and if it was any longer it has a tendency to knot. Her eyes are a startling blue colour, just like her fathers. She is often in brown trews and a loose faded out red shirt. If she is on duty though it's a dark blue skirt and mostly white tunic. She often as not has no shoes on as she hates them, so her feet are very tough.
Personality: Rather fiery and quick to anger. To those of higher rank, she can usually hold her tongue but . . .not always. She never starts the fists a flying, but she certainly can provoke it to that point. This is mostly her frustration with her spot as servant. Had she something she wanted and loved to do it is likely she would focus her energies on that. Very determined when her mind is set and you cannot dissuade her to stop unless you got a damn good reason. For all that she is a spitfire, she is very loyal and trusting. If you let her down, oh she'll rage something fierce but she'll more then likely trust you again.
    Other: Niah, attack!

    Name: Kanaleth
    Gender: Male
    Colour: Blue
Appearance: Overall he is a very light blue colour and in a fog or cloud cover it is very easy to loose track of him. Even if seen from the ground on a clear day you might mistake him for a bit of cloud. His body is lighter then the sky but not overly so. It darkens in his extremities to a light teal. His underbelly is a light cloud blue and finally the skin of his wings is a very light blue, almost see through in the right light.
He is a very large blue; on hatching he is half a metre in length. Full grown he gets to be the full 30 metres, pushing 31.
Personality: When he sets his mind on something, it gets done. He is not fiery like T'lin but more jumpy. He is quick to hiss and startle and often swipes before he looks. It is rather amazing something his size can get so small. With his rider though he is a lion in the air. He absolutely adores flying; it is on the ground he is jumpy. He'll do absolutely anything for his rider and if you tell him be somewhere in a fight, you can always count on him to be there no matter what.
    Whoot.
    *Dad talking about his filling.*
    PL: Did it fall out?
Dad: Yeah! ****in' thing only lasted two days.
    PL: Huh.
Dad. I can stick my tongue down in my hole--
    He just stops.
    ...
    *hilarity ensues*

    Mom: We're one warped family.
    *through hiccups*
PL: I didn't know you were that flexible!

Default Re: Pern: A Dragonrider's Tale [lé sign-ups]

    Name: Cainnar to be C'nar
    Gender: Male
Age: 18 ˝ (He’s weird and likes to point out the halves in things… O.o
    Dragon: Bronze
Searched From: Healer Hall from Fort Hold.
Heritage: Son of Master Healer Cangon and no-name mother Ai.
Appearance: Cainnigon, at first appearance and at a glance, is what one would call a natural oddity. Of course, he doesn’t look odd if you analyze him from head to toe from one particular feature. He has soft raven-black hair that reaches just slightly past mid-neck. His hair has a bit of a luster to it, not seeming to ever be straight but always having some sort of gentle wave or volume. His eyes are neither dominantly green or gold, but interchangeably both. His skin isn’t ghostly pale, but it is a nice porcelain complexion with only a tad remembrance of sun rays. He tends to always wear darker things… not because he’s dark, sinister or moody in anyway, but rather because in paler things he deems himself ‘washed out’. He primarily wears a dark black robe, equipped with a lovely hood that usually is draped down. (He doesn’t usually try to spook people with it up.) His robe must be tied together with a rope in order to fully wrap about his body, but he usually leaves it untied so that it flows open when he walks. (A ‘billow cloak’ as he calls it.) This exposes what he wears underneath- a simplistic long-sleeved white shirt and dark blue pants (so dark they seem black, he loves the dye job upon it.) that tuck into his black, supple-leathered boots.
Personality: Cainnigon is what most would label as, ‘odd’. While he isn’t dark or sinister, he does have an affinity for liking ‘darker’ things by nature. While most children back in the younger days loved bright, vivid tails of adventure… Cainnigon was more interested in the darker days- those who broke laws or those who were punished. Cainnigon did like dragons, but he took a fancy to the more pitiful dragons (or those he deemed more pitiful, when comparing to the rest.) While Cainnigon’s affinities for strange things might not be so odd, until you compare them to his outer self. He is quite witty and has a keen eye for spotting the most ridiculous things in matching ridiculous detail. He doesn’t like to pick arguments, but he will listen to them and if you win him over to your side… he has a bad habit of twisting his words to make the other party seem idiotic. He generally is good natured however, and while he isn’t bubbling over with cheer or joy, he is pleasant to be around. He also is very curious and it shows when he likes to ‘test’ substances out. oh, and perhaps given the right nuturing habitat... he would have become a 'romantic'. However, being around his father and rather up-nosed womanly healers who were usually to old or up-nosed for him anyways... he has yet to discover any hint of it.
History: Cainnigon, at the ripe age of partial maturity, was instantly thrown into the wonders of Healing Hall. There he was taught the proper ways of healing, the teachings of the premise of healing and all the wonders of the ‘healing art’. However, Cainnigon soon found that while he unnaturally seemed to grasp a ‘hold’ of the art and understood it… he utterly found it a bore. While his father praised him, marveling in his ‘gifts’ as a healer… Cainnigon found no pleasure in his father’s praise. Instead, Cainnigon some-how stumbled upon the idea of experimentation with different herbs and plants. (To this day he changes the story some-what… probably to keep himself safe from having broken a few good rules.) Soon, Cainnigon practically became obsessed with the new discovers and knowledge he was finding with his experiments- particularly dealing with Poisons. Cainnigon soon found he needed to acquire more knowledge- so he acquired books of plants, medical lore and anything that could have some indirect or direct way with concoctions that dealt with poisons, ‘mysterious liquids’ or any devised substance that was considered ‘unnatural’. He was able to do this for many years… happily finding a place of solitude to do his experiments, until a rather disgruntled peer found him out. Cainnigon was then scorned (mostly by his father) and his things were taken away and he was once again thrown into the boring arts of ‘healing’. It wasn’t until one day when a very young child had accidentally fallen ill that Cainnigon’s passion was respected (well, a little). Cainnigon’s own father could not diagnose her, and it was Cainnigon who diagnosed her and cured her using his ‘outlawed’ knowledge and techniques. In this way, it was proven that while Cainnigon was researching things that were perhaps a bit dangerous and ‘contrary’ to healing… in addition to Cainnigon’s healing training, it proved a good combination. Cainnigon was then allowed to continue his research but was forced to also continue regular healing training by his father.
Other: Cainnigon also has a fire lizard companion called Rith. Rith is a tiny green fire-lizard (even compared to other green fire lizards). Despite her size however she seems rather protective of Cainnigon and rarely ever leaves his side. Cainnigon's impression was rather accidental. He had gone outside to collect some herbs and happened upon a clutch of eggs. Most of the fire lizards had already gone, but one lone green fire lizard remained- Rith. Upon seeing Cainnigon however, Rith immediatly sent a rather dramatic wave of happiness upon Cainnigon and hasn't been sad since.

    Name: Larsith
    Gender: Male
    Colour: Bronze
Appearance: Larsith has a rather fiery bronze color, one to make you think of the ‘tiger’s eye’ rock. It seems to be a more mix of red and orange with an addition of a golden luster rather than bronze itself. Larsith is about ľ a meter in length, being a good medium sized on the girth scale. Larsith by no means is large or small, but he likes to pretend he is a lot bigger than he is. The one thing upon him that perhaps IS a bit bigger than normal, would be his wingspan- but they’re usually tucked up happily upon his back anyways. Only when he gets really ‘COME ON’-like, does he flare his little wings out. To a flightless avail as of now. His eyes are usually a calm sea-green color, but Cainnigon often swears there is a fleck of yellow or red, even when Larsith seems happy as a clam.
Personality: Larsith makes an interesting companion for Cainnigon. Larsith tends to be rather proud and while he doesn’t have an ego… he definitely has a ‘feel good’ attitude about himself- to the point where Larsith will jump into situations that he probably can’t always handle. Still, Larsith makes up for Cainnigon’s lack of “let’s go on an adventure!” and often nudged Cainnigon to go a little out of his way for ‘ridiculous’ things. Larsith is the ‘bubbly’ to Cainnigon’s wine.

“This idea of yours… it is absolutely ridiculous. Did you get into my kit again?”

Default Re: Pern: A Dragonrider's Tale [lé sign-ups]

    Name: T'lan (full name Tamrelan)
    Gender: Male
    Age: 20
    Dragon: Blue Burganth
Searched From: Harperhall, High Reaches Hold
Heritage: The son of harpers Seph and Arlene
Appearance: He’s a tall man, standing at 6 foot with a freakishly thin build (this has led to many questioning how often he actually eats). He has wild, fiery red hair which spikes up in all directions (whether he actually made it like this or he’s just too lazy to comb it is a mystery) and vibrant green eyes, showing the excitement and energy within him.
His face is thin, yet it seems perfect for the lazy and sometimes excited smiles that grace his face. He has a small marking under his left eye, which looks like a scare at first glance, but is really just painted on. His body is quite toned (mainly due to all his physical training) so, apart from him being so thin, he looks he looks after himself.
Tamrelan wears a black coat with red trim, normally left open, exposing his chest (he refuses to put a shirt on under it, no matter how many times he’s told. The most he’ll do to cover himself is do up his coat). He also wears a pair of dark red trousers, tucked into black boots reaching just under his knees.
Personality: At first glance, you’d figure Tamrelan as a lazy good for nothing, and in a way it’s sort of true. Tamrelan would normally like to just lay back and relax. However, there’s more to him than that. Showing little interest in learning instruments, singing and especially teaching, Tamrelan focused more on the physical side of being a Harper, mainly acrobatics. And he is more than willing to demonstrate this, especially if the stunt is high risk. The more dangerous the stunt, the more enjoyable for him.
He is also a bit of a smart-ass, quick to poke fun at another, or on some occasions, even himself. Although he rarely intends to offend, his jokes can sometime be a bit too much. He also has a reckless streak to him, mainly because of his love for danger, that can get him into trouble.
However, despite his laziness and love of all things fun, Tamrelan does have some intelligence under it all, which surfaces now and again. He will, on some occasions give you some good advice.
History: Tamrelan was always seen as a lazy child growing up, having a short attention span when growing up and always having trouble mastering instruments. He would rather run and jump and play than spend time practicing music and learning. Many people thought he would be a lost cause, believing he’d become a lazy good-for-nothing.
However, while Tamrelan lacked skills in singing or music-making, he did however have an interest in more physical activities, mainly acrobatics. He becomes skilled in a number of high-risk stunts, bringing joy and entertainment to small children, but bringing ire to those higher than him. They felt that singing and music was all there was to a harper, and so considered Tamrelan a failure amongst harpers. Because of this, Tamrelan prefers the company of children because he believes they are not as narrow minded as adults and judge things by their tastes, not by how they are viewed by society.
He has always had a facination with dragons, mainly for their ability of flight. He sees them as an apportunity to further explore his 'craft', namely, aerial acrobatics.
Other: He loves playing practical jokes, mainly on those who take life too seriously in his opinion.

    Name: Burganth
    Gender: Male
    Colour: Blue
Appearance: Burganth is about 75 centimeters in length. He is a deep blue, like that of a sapphire. He will grow to be 30 meters in length, the maximum. His eyes are normally a deep brown, although they’ll flicker to different colors according to his mood.
Personality: He takes things a lot more seriously than his rider, but secretly enjoys his antics and fun-loving attitude. He’s normally the first to warn Tamrelan of the dangers of his actions, although half of the time he secretly supports him all the way. He’s the voice of reason for Tamrelan.

Ooooookaaaaaaay. Bulba and Riiver, youse two are approved! But Mystic and Zcade...would you mind removing the acting/comedian/acrobatics things from your Harper-ish backgrounds? Harpers sing and teach, but they're not actors or clowns or anything. Thankee! ^_^

Oh! Also. Don't forget the name-shortening thing. I know I forgot to put it in the main sign-up. >_< So for Bulba, it'd be C'nigon or C'gon, for Zcade it'd be I'ac, for Mystic it'd be T'relan or T'lan, for Plantae it'd be L'na or something. The reason they're shortened is for convenience while flying, it's easier to shout shortened names across the sky, and it also acts as an honorific to show that the rider has a dragon. The exception to this is the queen rider, for some reason.

The Harpers were actors as well, putting on plays. They were artistians, not just singers. They practiced all forms of vocal arts. Is a comedian that far of a stretch from a singer?

Is'c. Sounds closer to the original than I'ac

Sorry if I mess up any Pern stuff, I’ve never read the series but I just looked it up a bit >.>

    Name: Eideard, shortened to E’ded
    Gender: Male
    Age: 18
    Dragon: Green
Searched From: Traders, who were currently weathering wintry storms in the High Reaches Hold
Heritage: a Lord and Lady Holder
Appearance: Eideard is tall, about 6”3, with a rather lanky body and only slightly tanned skin despite the fact that he spends many hours under the sun with the Traders. His eyes are a deep, rich burgundy whereas his hair is russet brown with blonde sunstreaks that tends to be in a state of perpetual mess. He wears a loose, long sleeved low v necked shirt that may have been white in its glory days but is now a rather indiscriminate shade of dirty grey, long brown slacks of sort and a thick belt around his waist that is home to several of his personal effects and on his feet, two black, very worn leather boots that have obviously seen much service. His only form of ornamentation is a thick silver chain around his neck with a heavy carved silver pendant in the shape of a dragon in flight.
Personality: Possessing a more than passing fancy for all beverages alcoholic coupled with a seeming inability to ever be inebriated, it is no surprise that half of his closest pals are Vintners. A happy go lucky attitude, an even temper and a fondness for laughter make him well liked anywhere he goes. He detests being “tied down”, and always itches to be on the move, and so, the roving lifestyle of the Traders appeals to him. Eideard enjoys a good story as much as any other man, but has angered many a Master Harper by demanding for stories and songs with more of the “ha-ha variety” as he puts it. As mentioned earlier, he loves laughing, and is often a willing co-conspirator of pranksters, though mostly of the harmless variety. In confrontations, he tends to take the “why-can’t-we-just-all-be-friends” stand, and therefore it is very hard to argue with him as he will not react antagonistically, even when provoked. On the contrary, he would probably deliver a long lecture on some random topic that will leave the antagonist so kermufluxtated(his word) that all anger and wrongs will be forgotten in the midst of confusion. Many consider him rather weak in the head, or childish or naďve, because of his penchant for using odd words or madeup words and a propensity to beat around twenty different bushes at any given time. It is not known how he reacts to stressful situations, because he is never flustered, preferring to be laidback and accepting whatever the future holds, be it good or bad.
Other: The reason for his unknown parentage is because of the controversy that had to be hushed around his birth. His father, a Lord Holder, was outwardly a mild mannered and fair man but secretly abused his wife regularly, raping her at various intervals. Disbelieved by all, she was on the brink of insanity and refused any treatment when her “concerned” husband ordered the best healer available for her. Immediately after the delivery of her first child, she went completely mad, declared her husband a beast and murderer and strangled herself to death before the healer present could intervene. Master Healer Dughal felt some concern at her words and found several injuries on her body that could not be self inflicted. Concerned about the child’s safety, he confronted the Lord Holder, who, bearing no love for his son, agreed to let the healer take the child, as long as he kept mum about the Lady Holder’s abuse. As he had no concrete proof of the Lord’s brutality, the Master Healer was unable to do anything more other than bring the child back to Healer Hall, where Eideard grew up hale and hearty, raised by Master Healer Dughal as one of his own. Eideard however had no love for the healing arts, or any established crafts for that matter, and instead preferred to throw his lot with Traders, much to his adoptive father’s dismay. He loved the freedom they embodied, and the hard life on the road was pleasant to him. Dughal has never told Eideard about his origins, instead telling him that his real parents are dead. Eideard also is not bothered about his parentage, satisfied with the family he has now, and is indeed, very attached to them. He has rudimentary healing skills due to his upbringing and an extensive knowledge of all sorts of drinking games.

    Name: Kraellath
    Gender: Female
    Colour: Green
Appearance: Her hide is a dark myrtle green that appears almost black especially on her snout to her skull, in a dark stripe which extends just over her eyes, giving her the appearance of a mask of sorts. At birth, her wings are significantly larger than that of most hatchlings, and when she matures, her wingspan will be rather more impressive than normal. Her tail on the other hand is rather short, and she can be very sensitive about it. When she matures, she will reach her full length of 22 metres. Her eyes are also slightly larger than the norm, and, when around her rider, usually are the shade of azure blue.
Personality: A prankster by nature, she and her rider get along famously. Her love for jokes and foolery do not endear her to her clutchmates, but is a great source of amusement to Eideard. She is also known to make up and tell rather silly jokes, often dragon-themed. Exuberant, loud and basically a rapidly expanding dragon shaped ball of energy(so to speak), she would mindchatter non-stop if she could. Unable to sense disdain, she is thus rendered invulnerable to all sarcasm. She also cannot hold grudges because it goes against her basic happy nature, and it's too much work and energy wasted, when it could be well spent on thinking up another joke or prank. Flying is one of her greatest joys, and she delights in aerial acrobatics and stunts that her smaller, agile build allows.

KWEEE! *glomps Hype* YAY! I was worried you'd not get here in time! ^___^ You is approved.

And thanks for changing your name, Bulba!

Mystic and Zcade, as sooooon as you edit your sign-up forms, I shall add you to the cast list proper. ^_^

"Apprentices sponsored in the [Harper] craft are taught in voice, instrument making, composition and writing and choral singing, and must develop proficiency in one instrument besides percussion.
Once Apprentices move on to the rank of Journeyman, they learn to teach, or to arrange music, or look after other Apprentices."

Also, a note about paper and such-like. On Pern, they don't get paper until quite a way into the timeline, so as this RPG is set fairly early, we have no paper. This means that Harpers and Copyists work on animal hides, stretched and written on with inks, and to make something like a book or a playscript would be considered a huge waste of hide, especially since they don't preserve very well.

Default Re: Pern: A Dragonrider's Tale [lé sign-ups]

I feel the need to mention that most of the ages people are picking are, generally, considered on the 'too old' side for Impressions. Not that it never happened, just that usually Dragonrider-hopefuls are usually scouted at around 14 - 16 (right, weasel?). Lol, sorry, I'm being picky. XDD Anyhoo... a sign-up, right.

    Name: Kallev (shortened to K'lev)
    Gender: Male
    Age: 17
    Dragon: Brown
Searched From: Miner Craft Hall, near Crom Hold
Heritage: Son of MasterMiner Chev and Lady Kallana; younger of two sons, with 5 sisters (some older, some younger).
Appearance: Standing at only 5'7, and of a slightly stocky build, Kallev is hardly what one would call 'intimidating'. Flat, short-cut hair of average brown that is often untamed and falls wherever it wants and tanned skin. Seeing as he most often wears clothing of very subdued browns, grays and dull greens, the only thing that ever stands out are his deep blue eyes, however, they are often downcast and not many people get to see them full on. Usually seen wearing tunic tops of the traditional Miner Craft black with brown wherhide pants or loose gray or green trousers and thick hide boots. He is not fond of his miner gear and avoids wearing them whenever he can.
Personality: Very soft-spoken and sullen, he's not very articulate when it comes to open commication. He'll speak when spoken to, but not often other than that. He's also known to stutter a bit when he's nervous (awww). However he is also very loyal, helpful and obliging, ready at a moment's notice to do you a favor.
History: Born as the middle child of a family of 7 (and the younger of two sons), Kallev was often neglected as a child. That on top of being constantly hasseled by other children of the Hall because of his diminuative stature, he often found himself wandering off by himself whenever he had a free moment from chores or lessons. His only human solace was his eldest sister, Leyna, the head cook in the Miner Hall kitchen, and he often took his sanctuary in there with her.
Even though he was raised in the Miner Hall, Kallev never found much love or knack for the trade. After his first trip into the mines ended in a near-death experience from a cave-in, he avoided going back in at all costs, and since then has always had a secret fear of closed-in spaces. Instead he tried his hand at several hobbies, including fishing and widdling (anything that kept him outside). This was much to his father's dismay, who wanted him to stop his foolishness and work down in the mines like he was supposed to. Kallev never saw the point to this (since his older brother would inherit the title of MasterMiner and the Holds as the first-born) and dreamed of bigger things.
His facination with dragons began at 14, when a rider on a giant bronze dragon arrived at their Hall to speak with his father. As he saw the dragon fly over head, it's mighty wings gliding effortlessly through the air, he was inspired by it and even widdle a small, wooden dragon figurine that he always kept with him (lest his father see it). From then on Kallev dreamt of flying, whether on his own dragon or someone elses. However he hardly expected to be Searched by a dragonrider when he was 17 and taken to the famous Benden Weyr as a candidate for Impression.
Other: ......SHARDS!! (btw, can there be firelizards? Pwetty, Pweeease?)

    Name: Zorenth
    Gender: Male
    Colour: Brown
Appearance: Much like his rider, Zorenth was on the smaller side for a brown (while still bigger than a blue or a green), but will make up for it in speed and agility. His hide is a rich, deep brown that is surprisingly soothing and lightens at the wings. His eyes are usually a swirlling, blue of various shades (another match with his rider!) but will quickly change to a more threatening color if he is feeling angry or defensive (particularly if he thinks his partner is in danger!).
Personality: As a compliment to his more introverted rider, Zorenth is very active and outgoing and often pushes Kallev (K'lev) to do the same. While not annoyingly hyper, the brown is eternally inquizative and adventurous. As he grows he matures a bit more and levels out, but still will jump at the chance to do something "exciting".

Hope that's all ok. It's been a while since I've done Pern. I need to go back and read some of my books...
Oh, should it also be mentioned that the riders speak with their dragons telepathically and, usually, the are the only ones that can hear their own dragon (except other dragons)? Oops, there I go again, sorry. >_<

    Kuro, you're approved. ^_^ I'm glad someone's choosing a different craft, lol.
Zcade, I only said that you hadn't edited it cos there's no "edit" text at the bottom of your post. And plus it looks the same as when you posted it, to me...
    Mystic, you're now approved too.

For the Searching ages, I figured it'd be slightly different in an Interval, than during Threadfall.

Also, for the timeline, see here for a really useful list of the events. Just scroll down to get to the 1st Long Interval (it's massive, seriously, you can't miss it.) I'm obviously omitting actual events from the story, so there won't be any Lessa going back in time, or any Ruth, so just ignore those parts. As for the technology, it doesn't start to reappear until the 9th Pass (after the Long Interval), and even then, it's only AIVAS and the telescope.
And since a lot of old technology comes about in the books written by Anne and her son, I won't be using those either. (Not that they aren't awesome, just that cos they're so new, there's hardly any info on them and I don't have my books with me.)

The conflict with Southern only happens when people actually move to live down there, which I think is after Lessa brings the Oldtimers to the future, SO we won't be implementing that either.

Fire Lizards can be here, of course. ^_^ I forgot to mention those >_<

And finally, this'll start on Monday, or as soon as everyone's sign-ups are in. ^_^ So for all you who haven't finished yet, Monday is the latest time before the RPG will start and after then, you'll just have to try and catch up.

    Name: Dacian ‘D’cn’
    Gender: Male
    Age: 19
    Dragon: Green
Searched From: Southern Boll Hold, Weavercraft Hall
Heritage: Beast Master Jace and Master Weaver Amisi
Appearance: Quite the dazzler, Dacian stands at exactly six feet tall with a lean, semi-defined build. His skin has a natural light tan. His eyes are a deep, mysterious brown hue that turn honey coloured near the rim of the iris. His hair is a dark brown, almost black colouration that’s slightly wavy (turns wavier when wet), and goes down a bit past his shoulder. He’s usually clean shaven, save for his faint moustache and a bit of chin fuzz. Though they only add to his indescribable allure.
Adorning his lovely figure is a slightly worn white dress shirt that has a faint gold lining embroidered into it. It has a narrow, v-neck cut with a collar that comes up and covers the slight collar his long, deep grey leather trench coat has. The coat comes down to about an inch from the coat, and has thick, hemmed cuffs that come over a bit of his hands. He has a black leather belt hanging from his left shoulder down his right side, and a brown belt with a square, thin buckle over down the part of his shirt that covers just above his hips. He has slightly faded black pants that are semi-loose and ever-so-slightly dirtied boots. Despite the faded/worn appearance of his clothes, Dacian still hold’s his charm about him.
Dacian also has a number of ‘accessories’. Right Hand: A thick, silver one with a dragon engraved on it sits on his middle finger, while two gold ones with rubies sit on his pointer. Left Hand: A chunky silver pinkie ring with an emerald held in it, and a gold chained ring that lightly binds (some movement allowed) his middle finger and pointer together with a chain. He wears a silver pendant on a piece of black leather for a necklace, and has a deep green sash tied around his left wrist.
Personality: Dacian’s looks lead right into his personality. He’s charismatic; charming; out-going; and extremely fun-loving. He’s also quite the flirt, though he doesn’t actually notice it. Flirting is a second nature to him, so it automatically takes over when there’s a girl about. He tends to keep his thoughts to himself, as they have gotten him in trouble from time to time. When he is in deep thought, Dacian tends to go dead silent and not pay attention (not a normal occurrence, Dacian tends to note every detail, especially those that give him the advantage), and when he’s caught doing so, he’ll immediately go on the defensive. Though everything about Dacian seems nice, he can be selfish, and lives by the not-so-selfless motto: ‘your life first, then another’s.’ With this said, Dacian is not the type to trust with your life, though many can’t see this. Without a second thought he could leave anyone to die if it were to save his own skin.
Quietly in his mind, he is the first to panic, and the first to look for a way out. Though outside, he’ll keep the out-going, lovable attitude going to cover his own flaw.
History: Horrific! Absolutely horrific! Dacian was thrown around to parent after parent, his personality adapting and changing with each new candidate. At the end, he was finally adopted by the parent’s listed. His father was a complete flirt, and taught Dacian in the ways of reading and wooing women. His mother didn’t approve, and Dacian hid his talents from his parent’s sights soon after that. Afraid of becoming a nuisance and abandoned again. Because of this random childhood, Dacian doesn’t tend to keep friends around, or girls. He’ll take what he wants, and when he’s bored of it, move on. Afraid of being hurt, some would say.
Though the events with the other parents and placements he keeps to himself. So… The rest is to be revealed.
Other: Now much to say, he likes to sing, which he can do moderately well for some odd reason, and his fantastic memory has given him a love for stories. If he can, he will scribe anything, pelt of fur or not. Oh, he has a faint/light British accent.

    Name: Volath
    Gender: Female
    Colour: Green
Appearance: A long, slender, and serpentine body, Volath is absolutely beautiful and extremely graceful. In all physically, if she were to perch upright and kept her wings to her sides, she’d look much like an elongated Raptor or bird of prey. Her underbelly, throat and undertail are all a cream colour with an ever so light green hue. Fading from that, the remaining body is mostly a light, pale green. Her face structure is very reptilian, with a triangular design that just has a pinch of snake in it. Due to something of an odd gene type, Volath has deep purple markings on her body; the main influence is on her back/spine, beginning from the nape of the neck, all the way down to the tip of her tail. The stripes near the top of her neck form a single, thick purple stripe on either cheek, or splits into four smaller ones that decorate her brow. The purple coloration covers her arms, from the shoulder to the tip of the wing-fingers. The spread of skin in-between each finger is the same cream color as the underbelly, and her horns, that curve back behind the head, are the same coloration. Her eyes are a deep, mythic violet that seem to hypnotize those who look into them.
Size as a hatchling: 36 inches tall, with an 82 inch wingspan.
Size as Adult: 22 metres tall, with a big wingspan (to lazy to be technical…)
Personality: Volath; isn’t the nicest dragon. In fact, she’s quite nasty. With a hot temper and a quiet, brooding nature to compliment it, many wouldn’t consider Volath a friend at all. She’s not at all shy, she just prefers not to say anything to the ‘idiots’ (she calls everyone but Dacian idiots…). Her opinion, when announced, is blunt, to the point, and often points out flaws in the other’s plans. She knows that she’s a bit to open, but unlike Dacian, she doesn’t try to hide it. She takes pride in the fact that she’s got an attitude problem. She also hates running from a problem, no matter how large. When Dacian gets himself into considerable amount of trouble, Volath (the manipulative, as Dacian will come to call her) will wormtongue (her word for lying/altering the truth…) her way into Dacian’s ‘better nature’ and convince him to own up to his mistake.
Though Volath isn’t nice, she’s still a good friend in retrospect. She won’t abandon her allies, and though it may not appear this way; she respects their opinions.

Zcade, I've only just noticed that your dragon's name doesn't end with 'th'. I know it sounds like I'm REALLY narking at you, but that is honestly the only thing left to change. ^_^"" I've had a look in the books for an exception, but they do all end with 'th'. Default Re: Pern: A Dragonrider's Tale [lé sign-ups]

    Name: Reuxus
    Gender: Male
    Age: 11 (Granted Permission)
(Current) Location: Keroon, as a Journeyman from the Smith Hold (in Telgar)
Heritage: For the most part, family is common peasantry and not of major significance. Parents died early, however. Was "adopted" by a Master of the Smith's Hold, then was transferred to the Master's sister and brother-in-law in Keroon.
Appearance: Being quite young of age and having not hit puberty, he has the complete essence of a young child, although his work may sometimes taint that innocent appearance. His hair is blonde and appears almost bleached when looked at carefully, very likely due to his experiments that he conducts. His eyes are of a light, clear blue color and are a bit large in proportion to his face. They are often prone to bursts of tears, usually when no one is looking. He has a small round nose and chin, and his face is slightly grazed here and there by burns of whatever sort.
His clothes partly reflect that of formal noble clothing and partly has material to protect his body from harmful chemicals, but overall gives a rather torn and worn out appearance. He wears simple, tattered clothing over what appears to be a leather casing around his chest; the leather vest doesn't cover his arms, but the clothing does, although very poorly because it is tattered. He wears white gloves that have now been soiled and, from its appearance, hasn't been cleaned for years (although in actuality it is washed by his caretaking "aunt" every so often, as is with most of his clothes) and he wears rather comfortable, albiet also tattered and soiled, slack-like pants. Most notably he has a manteau, and a rather ragged one at that, as if he had been stranded in the desert for a long time. Seems to be rather fond of his manteau.
Personality: There are two things that come to mind when people talk to Reuxus: Innocent and Intelligent. Innocent usually comes first, because Reuxus typically has near zero knowledge about happenings in the real world and often, when talking about things he doesn't know about, gives a blank, confused, and (to some people) rather cute look on his face. When it comes to alchemy, however, he is more proficient than anyone else. Being both from a common family that raises a variety of "interesting" plants and a genius that had graduated as a journeyman in the Smith's hold specializing in alchemy, he can cure almost any problem and make almost anything to any affect if put in chemical terms. Because of this, many people have taken advantage of his knowledge as he has yet to understand how to distrust people (due to the innocent side of this). While he won't give his full trust to any stranger, he often helps people, good or bad, with some of his potion making, not often aware of what dire consequences can result.
Even though he seems at times like a small child that would cry at any moment, he is in actuality very strong. His parents have died and he was forced to be moved off to a different, faraway hold, yet he maintains his confidence and will to live, typically through the work he does. There are times when a few see him break down, but those do not happen often.
History: Reuxus came from a rather common yet fairly happy family, their parents both proud that Reuxus possessed the genius knowledge that can even get him into a Hold. In fact, the family originally was not from Telgar but moved there in hopes of their son becoming an apprentice, in which he did. Reuxus loved his parents quite a lot and did not fail them, except for one tragic event when he had prepared an explosive chemical for a mysterious stranger in exchange for a good amount of marks, hoping that his impoverished family would be happy. He was only to find out that soon after, the marketplace had a huge explosion, killing, along with other people, his parents who were shopping in the area.
In the end the criminal was eventually found, tried, and executed. Reuxus was also found to have made the chemical, but there were split views on him as well. Some saw him has having knowledge way too dangerous for a child to have and wanted to have him executed as well, but many found this unreasonable and sought for a different punishment. A master that had taken a liking of him suggested that he adopt him and then transfer him off to a faraway city, his reason being to protect the city from explosives but in actuality, he wanted to save Reuxus from the harassment that had accumulated from the tragic event, not to mention the pain of having lost his parents. This was easily arranged as Reuxus already had all the requirements to advance to Journeyman, so he graduated as journeyman and left for Keroon.
There he lived with his "aunt and uncle", who were relatives of the master of the smith hold. He later on met Siglavy while she was herding sheep, having at one point suffer momentarily from a flashback trauma and went to go hide in her sheep herd to prevent himself from being seen. Sig noticed him, and after asking him what he was doing, Reuxus pretty much broke down even more and started crying profusely. In the end, a confused Sig brought the boy into her house and treated to him kindly, which Reuxus took to heart. From that point on he would visit Sig's house nearly every day to "play" or do whatever else. :p
Other: VERY GOOD AT ALCHEMY. VEEEEEERRRYYYY GOOOOOOOOOD Yes. Tell him to make something and he should be able to make it! I promise I won't overabuse this power though. :x

Just one question. Engi, your alchemy doesn't apply to the human body and living creatures right? Otherwise you're experimentations are close to what Cain does with his liquids. ^_^;;; But if you're not related to the living... then okies! I just wanted to make sure our charries strengths were different.

yes when reading through your post, I saw that as well. I thought of two possibilities.

One is that I mainly pertain to chemicals and explosives. In general, I don't care too much of what happens inside the body.

I originally had it so they can say "make a love potion" and he'll make one for them, not too sure of the anatomy behind it. However, I don't know if that's too close to what you do...

The alternative is to have the two, when they meet, be something like rivals. That in a way could work too. What do you think?

    ALL DONE MOTHER!

    Name: Inigo Enrique Falzon
    Gender: Male
    Age: 18
    (Current) Location: Plains of Keroon
Heritage: Bastard son of a Lord Holder and Servant Chela
Appearance: Stands at an average height of 5'9" with a toned, athletic build. His skin is well tanned from days spent in the sun. Tatoos are visible on his arms and back. His handsome features are only marred by the black leathery eye patch that covers much of the upper left-half of his face. The visible eye is a dark reddish brown and his shaggy hair is worn long, just past the nape of his neck. Most of it is tied back into a tail with the bangs left to frame his face. A thin braid tied in red, gold, and black extends from the left. He normally wears a baggy sleeved, white shirt (like the ones pirates wear) and brown trousers underneath short-sleeved crimson jacket. Right arm and shoulder are covered in a flexible, hide for protective purposes, the area around the forearms reinforced with inlaid iron. Always carries a variety of trinkets around his neck including various lock-picking tools, a real silver cross, copious amounts of beads, and animal fangs. He also keeps a variety of blades on his person, including throwing daggers in his belt, a knife hidden in his boot, another under his bracer, and his most treasured possession - a scimitar made of real steel.
Personality: Boisterous and cocky, Inigo is a fiery young man in the prime of his life. He is very vocal about his opinions and isn't afraid to speak his mind, which has gotten him in trouble more than once. As well, he's a shameless flirt and with his good looks has had many women fall victim to his charms. He's a good fighter and relishes challenging opponents. Though reckless, he knows when he's in over his head and when the time comes for surrendering.
History: Born the bastard son of a married Holder, he and his mother were exiled and left Holdless to avoid scandal. For a few years the two wandered from Hold to Hold, but found no place to call home. When Inigo was five, they were accosted by bandits in the mountains north of the Keroon plains. The two were shocked to find that the bandits' leader was her brother Kamino. They were welcomed into Kamino's clan and Inigo himself was made an apprentice bandit. At the age of thirteen he was offically allowed to take part in raiding parties and attacks.

During his second foray, he was split from the gang and ended up hiding among a certain herder's sheep. He's grown fond of this hiding spot and often retreats there after even the most successful raids. He's apparently made grudging friend out of Sig, a lover in her sister, and a younger brother in Reuxus.

His uncle Kamino, the self proclaimed King of Gypsies, was recently slain and left the Crimson Lotus Bandits in Inigo's mother's care.
Other: His fighting and drinking skills were actually taught to him by his mother, whose anger at being thrown away like some cheap whore has left her bitter.

    Name: Kilnth

Personality: Kilnth is very much like Midna, very quiet and loyal but at the same time very boisterous and quite psychotic when cocky of in control. Though she has been known to give in even when she is on top because of threat of really bad repurcussions brought on by gloating to other dragons.
