Of course not. Because that'd suck really, really hard. Unfortunately, even though you didn't think about it, this guy did.

OK. I've got a few problems with the Safari Zone. I love reffing it, and I really enjoy the aspect of it, but I think it's cheap. You can technically buy a third stage Pokemon such as Dusknoir for a mere 4 points, and that requires only one battle, where actually catching one and raising it would take 9 points, and at least two battles. Making it so easy to get powerful Pokemon kind of takes the fun out of the ASB concept, IMO.

o.O Well, the time it takes to get a Dusknoir in the Safari Zone {pending the Ref's} can most likely take from 8-10 posts minimum, which in it of themselves long enough. And that's to say if you catch it. Sure, in the greater sense of likelihood, if you beat the danged thing down, you can.

I'm not saying it is completely fair (I do see the lopsidedness of it) but at the same time...

You can get Toxicroak in D/P Safari Zone, no questions asked. That alone bugged me out.

I figure, the mods/refs only have a 1 time-only special uber cool Pokemon like that running around and if you don't catch it then, you aren't going to find it again.

...Anyway...someone wanna loan me a Diamond? <<I could really use one....

Being a ref, Darkest Light, I know all of the Pokemon and where they appear. And I can tell ya, there are about two Pokemon in the entire safari zone who are as rare as you say. Most areas are filled to the brim with Pokemon and their evolutions, and I've seen countless final stage Pokemon under the 'common' category. I've seen Roserades, Raichus and Altaria's considered 'Very Common' and Salamences and yes, Dusknoirs, considered in the common category.

Ok Ok MH. I'll see your categorical assessment, and raise you this. Mind you I'm not trying to understand the formula of the Safari Zone, I'd rather just enjoy it for what it is-but

you state that the Pokemon in these areas are common and what not. Would these be areas that they are common in the minute you walk in. Like say I walk into Troldgar mountian (did I get that right?)-am I gonna see a Salamence right off the bat?

Or does the person have to travel a certain distance, or get to a certain spot before spotting them? Or is that up to the ref's discretion. I mean...sure they may be listed as common. Sugar Honey Iced Tea...Shink is common, and the little biotch never comes out for me. NEVER.

I'm just saying, even though final forms are easier to get here, you still gotta spend the time to get them. I mean you still need one "battle" to obtain said Pokemon. Yes its easier, but that's why people come to the Safari Zone. To get strong Pokemon faster.

The fun will stay as long as we have battlers willing to trade, give away and work with Pokemon differently, and not get complacent with their teams. </soapbox>

Now, that' the giveaway's over, I need a fight. I wanna CHOMP!

I understand MH's point of view completely, but the fact that gets me going to the safari zone is not the easy way of getting high staged pokemon, but the storyline mode of it all. That's what I love about it and as soon as their reffing possitions open for the safari zone, I'll be the first to get there as I can't wait to write some stories of my own.

Also, I was just about to say the same thing as Silencer, Chris promised me I'd be The Disturbed Dunsparce :'(

Exactly MLG, I'd rather the ante for catching Pokemon in the safari zone be upped, but the rest of it stay the same. I really enjoy writing the reffings, because it feels like I'm telling the story of my own Pokemon anime minus all the crappy stuff in between.

@D_L: Although some Pokemon only appear in caves, or a certain depth of a lake, it is completely random. Yes, if you walked into the area, it would be quite possible for a salamence to appear immediately.

I'd much more prefer that the stronger Pokemon have agressive family, or devoted followers behind them. So you'd have to get an idea for how to isolate them.

If you think the concept is tarnished I advise you not to enter. The thing is just because a Pokemon is a 3rd stage doesn't mean it should necessarily hard to capture - look at Beautifly or Beedrill for good examples. The evolutionary stage of a Pokemon [generally] has very little impact on its attacks AND the power of said attacks.

And the aspect of the Safari Zone we are emphasising is that you may spend a LONG time actually finding the Pokemon you want. And they may run away. They may fight and even defeat your Pokemon. This is what seperates it from the Approval Tower - you aren't simply 'buying' a Pokemon as you put it. The process between buying the Pokeballs and leaving with your captures is lengthly.

Ah now here you are referencing the new area - Platlin Plateu. Let me tell anybody reading this that the area SPECIALISES in final forms - as a result Pokemon like Salamence are actually quite common.

But as of yet we have not even released details on how to access that zone.

We [the powers that sculpted the Safari Zone from our bare hands] went over the list carefully, and we thought hard about which species should be rarer than others. We are not stupid nor are we careless - we did ensure that it was relatively reasonable so that you could catch some neat Pokemon and also have the excitement and lure of finding rare types.

And as mentioned above, said Pokemon are tiered - just because Altaria is an evolution that doesn't mean it should be rare. We structured this because we felt these Pokemon should be those rarities.

We'll be asking for a couple new Safari Zone refs in the future if activity picks up. And Disturbed Dunsparce = June

Now this is a factor of reffing in the Safari Zone - ok for Salamence I agree with you since Platlin Plateu has all final forms - but to inform all ASBers of the Safari Zone format, generally we have Pokemon listed next to a number.

If a Pokemon is (1) it is common. If it is (2) it is uncommon and if it is 3 it is VERY RARE and we emphasize the difficulty in finding such species.

Now using a randomizer or any unbias source we expect the ref to pick a selection of say 3 to 6 Pokemon appearing in the area. Now because of...say, dice rolls or internet randomizers, there is a perfectly legitimate chance that you might find say a Tyranitar, Steelix and Camerupt (all quite rare Pokemon) up Trolgar Mountain. However that is unlikely.

If anybody has any queries about the Safari Zone I ask you to just send me a message and I'll answer anything you want to know. I feel as if Mega has somewhat blurred what information he has recieved in order to prove a point, and if he is indeed just 'randomly' selecting Pokemon and not taking their rarities into account, we have a problem on our hands.

    Bump.

Do you guys think gymleaders should be allowed to challenge eachother?

Me and Ace64 (who has mysteriously vanished) are the only people who have actually won a badge (I'm the only person who has Dan's badge, w000t, yay, etc..) I'm intending to go for a full badgestreak, before I discovered that Gymleaders cannot challenge eachother. Although I understand, this dissapoints me.

I'm torn on that particular subject.

On one hand, I can see why its not allowed. Obviously a GL can't try and "take over" the Gym position of another, so its rather pointless to allow them to win badges, as they'd effectively serve no purpose. Plus, if 2 leaders were battling, it'd tie up both of them in gym battles, and thus the regular battlers would get less of a chance to battle the leaders. Its also an issue that if 2 leaders battled, one of them would have to come out on top and get a badge. Unless you were only allowed to make a challenge, and not put your own badge on the line, and that of itself would be odd and suck for the leader who has to put his badge up with nothing in return.

But on the other... all those reasons, aside from the fact that it would tie up 2 Leaders, seem rather negligible. And I can see leaders wanting to collect badges just to collect them.

Question...I know this belongs in DP, but, this is fairly minor and not worth creating a thread about IMO.

I do double battles often, but I do single battles just as often. Now that surf hits everyone and I have a team of different types, should I choose that or Hydro Pump?

Well, seeing as just about anything you have that can learn Hydro Pump should be able to learn Surf anyway... considering this is ASB, there isn't much of a "choosing" aspect involved. I'd consider the animé aspect of the moves, really. Hydro Pump is a focused torrent of water; Surf is an area-affecting attack that, in most cases, requires a nearby body of water to work. Choose whichever best suits the situation, as those can vary drastically from battle to battle.

Then it depends on what your teammate is. For example, if your teammate was Vaporeon, I'd say Surf. If it can take special hits, Surf. If it can't take special hits or doesn't have Water Absorb or something, then Hydro Pump.

In this scenario, if the teammate WAS going to be a Vaporeon, it'd definitely be surf. Vaporeon has Water Absorb, after all. That is, if memory serves me right.

Well, there are gymleaders who aren't battling, so many actually that it wouldn't even mind for two to be busy fighting eachother.

I'm not sure yet. I'm definately getting a Lucario at some point, despite the fact that it'll probably be an overused pokemon. Probably Hippowdon and maybe Mothim (though I do already have a Bug/Flier). And I'm sure I'll get even more eventually.

As for evolutions... eh, I've got both Magnemite and Electabuzz, but I prefer Electabuzz and Magneton to Electivire and Magnezone, so I probably won't evolve either of those.

I had a Sneasel at one point... Crystal Tears has her now though, so I may have to acquire another one just for Weavile. I plan on exchanging my Electrode some day, hopefully for a Magneton so's I can get Magnezone. Then I'll need a Gallade.

Then my team'll be Growlithe/Arcanine, Scyther/Scizor, Gligar/Gliscar, Magneton/Magnezone, Golduck, Salamence, Staryu/Starmie, Weavile, Gallade, and Umbreon.

    I wish RL would've given me back the Pokemon I gave him before he left though... oh well... ;_;

    New month!

AND FINALLY WE HAVE THE DISTURBED DUNSPARCE CHAT THREAD!

This odd, eerie hangout has various symbols and numbers floating in the air. A thin man plays a creepy violin in the corner, while a dunsparce flies a kite indoors.

Member of the Month this month is changing. On June 30th June's MotM will be decided but to do that you need to vote. I've been busy this month and haven't been able to spy on you all.

So who deserves MotM and why? PM me and let me know, the winner gets 5 points!

Well, been a while. I would've logged back in on my first name, but can't seem to retrieve my password. Anywho... I disappeared for a while, for a lot of things, for quite a few months. The first year of college was pretty stressful (not that it wasn't fun/crazy/etc.) and as a would-be English major, the amount of writing I had to piled up. PILED. I had to cut things out for a while just to handle myself...which included this site. I up and left without warning, mostly because I couldn't see a way to untangle myself from all the things I was involved with here neatly. I owe quite a few people some apologies, actually.

With summer here, I got to wondering about this place. Long story short, I'm back. I don't expect to pull another disappearance as long as I limit the amount of things I'm involved in. But I did miss this.

Now I'm going to poke around and gape at the new stuff, while thinking of ways to apologize.

Do you really think it's necessary for you to collect a few more Pokemon, Legend? You have twenty-eight already... when I had that many, I never battled with most of 'em. I imagine that's why Chris and MLG got rid of a lot of theirs as well...

Politoed I have much love for now and forever, because he took on a freaking Wailord. But truthfully, if it wasn't for Psychic and a few punches, it'd be fairly ordinary. I expect Poliwrath has gotten better since D/P came out.
