Thread: Hoothooters! Can I get sum?

  1. #321

Default Re: Charles Legend's Pancake Mansion - Chat Thread

Ill turn it back into a discussion.

This whole 'whats immune to what' argument has been going for as long as i can remember.
As soon as Dark types were here and invulnerable to Psychic attacks all the Psychic types turned into Darth Vader and used Psychic powers to throw phyisical objects at Dark types and expecting the ref to count it as say a Psybeam or a Psychic.
As stated by Chris the type immunities and resistances were brought in to make the game balanced.
Does it make sense that Gyarados is a flying type when its never flown and should obviously be a Dragon?
Is it right that Flygon gets to stay a ground type despite being a flyer from its second form up?

There are plenty of grey areas if we try and explain them but none of these situations need to be explained. The rules are there for balance. They were decided and set in stone by the games.
Bottom line is you dont have to understand the rules, only following them is required.

Sheesh Chris... take a chill pill ^^U

I will throw my two cents in here....

Lighting when it hits something is going to take the shortest path from it's origin to the other side. Normally this is in the form of negative (-) particles in the air and the Positive (+) particles of the earth (although it can be the other way). This charge building up gives off a bolt of electricity between the two, this is lighting and basic electricity [/science 101]

So let's see why when a lighting bolt hits the sea, it doesn't instantly FRY every living thing in the water (which is 75% of the world, I can guarantee someone's there). It's a matter of energy displacement. Granted if a lightning bolt hit a shallow sea, the energy would be disperced in the surrounding water. Since there's so much and water is actually a poor conductor of electricity (coppers much better), the energy and charge is disperced between the water and the earth.

    ...

GAH my spellings horrible tonight... off to bed!

I could reply, mainly to Chris' and Gavin's posts, but I'm going to attempt to exercise some self-control this time and just leave before I say something I'll hear about later. Have a nice day.

What were your first four Pokes?

The only starter pokémon I have left is my blastoise, Leviathan. Armada, my charizard, was given to Vermillion in the first Summer X-Mas Tree, then given to Mega Horny in another tree, while Algernon, my dragonite, was given to Charles Legend.

I had an eevee as well, named Nocturne, but I traded that away for a snorlax, named Arcadia -- he had been given to aragornbird, then later give to Chris 2.0.

Hm, the only one of mine that I don't have any more is my Zangoose, Romuyan. I kinda miss her, but my team was far too big...

My other three were Growlithe, Houndour and Dratini, and they're all as evolved as I want them to be right now. XD

One day they'll evolve. Working on that for next year probably. Like having a mostly unevolved team of total whoopazzery.

I had Slowpoke, Snorlax, Hoothoot and Slugma.

Macargo was traded in Tradingtower just before the last giveaway, then Snorlax was my strongest member at first, then I grew kinda tired of the old lump. Noctowl was my favorite pokemon, given away to Chris 2.0 in kind regards of our platformbattle (which I won). Slowbro is still and will always be mine.

I had quite a lot of pokemon, they're numbered in order of capture (or receiving). The numbers aren't logically set, but I just added a pokemon on the end of the list for the current squad as the traded away ones. So Slowbro and Beedrill are my oldest pokemon, Quilfish and Sneasel being the first ones I traded away, and the date order remains for the rest of the list.

    Current squad:

    03) Slowbro (Athene) [F] (exp)
    06) Beedrill (Set) [M] (/)
    27) Forretress (Ammit) [M] (/)

    34) Igglybuff (Jade) [F] (/)
    36) Masquerain (Delicaza) [F] (/)
    39) Charmander (Roger) [M] (/)

    Traded away:

    10) Qwilfish (Poseidon) [M] (/)
    12) Sneasel (Calypso) [F] (/)
    20) Kabuto (Khepri) [M] (/)

I don't understand a single joke in the name, I'm afraid.

On the topic of first fours, my first four were a Magikarp, a Torchic, a Ralts, and a Beldum. The Magikarp and Ralts both evolved once; I gave the resultant Kirlia to Hyperness and the resultant Gyarados to Crys. I often wonder how they're doing with their new families...

My Torchic and Beldum, on the other hand, have evolved into a Blaziken and a Metagross: The backbone of my team. In a 1-on-1 contest, neither of them have ever been defeated. They even earned me my first Gym Badge...

    I'm glad you asked!

River Tam is a character in the TV show Firefly.

    A tam o'shanter is a Scottish hat.

A shanty town is sort of like a slum, but with more tin houses.

    Well done Blade =]

In another topic....arenas. Am I the only one who likes a plain arena? Ones that contain spirits of deceased gods who fire beams from their penis just confuse me and make the overall decision of the match raaandom. Ok I like some crazy arenas, like my old Gym Arena, or the Monopoly Board, but if they're too random theyre waaaaayy too constricting, you know?

Whats the craziest arena youv fought on. Go on.

I really dislike plain arenas, especially the generic "Indigo Plateau." Not only does it give the match a bit more personality when you're fighting somewhere custom-made, but I think it's a bit more fun, too. Bizarre arenas create so many new strategies that you just couldn't perform on a plain field or would be infeasible to implement in your generic arena due to energy and health restrictions. Pretty much, if a match takes place in Indigo Plateau or somewhere similar, I'll pass it up right off, whatever the other conditions might be.

How the hell did you win Blade. RAWR >O I dont support.

No good job man, lol. See, being a jerk makes you likable, so stick with it.

No. I'm with River. I love BATTLING in plain arenas. Yeah sure, there's a lack of strategy, but I do get tired of having to deal with 50 billion other things. I'm down for the open field, plain cliff side, stuff like that. Its scenic and while there may be no magical luster, it makes for fun battles using only your wits and not the eve of impending nasty doom over to the left.

In truth, I'd rather avert death by clinging to a ledge and flipping back up using an old tree root, then having to watch for the 40 spikes of Haloic doom coming at me while avoiding poison and using the wind current to guide myself through the floating stream before I get impaled by the Oregon Trail oxen that got washed away -.-.

That being said, I don't mind REFFING battles with uber playing fields, it lets me be really creative!

I like Indigo Stadium, or a platform arena. Nothing to over complicated. I can like a complex arena, but not to much.

    Congrats blade! MOTM wow.

Hey umm... anyone can hit me back with an answer.

What is the maximum size for a battle? 6 on 6? Or can it be more? I'm just wondering about something....

I don't believe one was ever set; Chris and Dan attempted a 12 on 12 at one point. Just keep in mind that battles like that take a loooooong time.

Hmm... despite the number of times I've started battles using a generic arena, I actually don't like them that much. Those were either done when I just wanted a fast, no-strings-attached battle for the hell of it or because the creative juices weren't a-flowin' (in which case I probably should have let my opponent decide, but whatever). I like interesting arenas as long as they're not obscenely complicated. And as DL said, reffing in interesting areas is always fun; even if they don't affect the outcome as much as Halo spikes and Oregon Trail oxen and gods with flaming penises (wtf Chris?), at least I get to have fun with the description of the arena. I've reffed matches in casinos and junkyards and--Negrek will remember this--on top of a gigantic pizza. Fun.

I heed your warning Hyp. I figured one would take half a year to complete if I didn't have two really serious dedicated people and no hardships to befall them or I.

    ::Crafts a plan::

Back to discussion. I know what I said before-and I was wondering if anyone ever gets "carried" away with the environment? Do you suddenly focus more on additional damage from rock slides and fiery rages of doom, or do you still stick you your Pokeguns, so to speak.

I usually stick to my guns, and use the hazards only when they seem applicable.

In our 12-12 we reached roughly about 7 Pokemon. But it was at such a point where single Pokemon were expendable; for example, if my Blastoise was against a Magneton, I often didn't worry about strategy since I could set up for when I released Marowak.

It also took well over a year and a half; heck most matches do take a LONG time so be wary; battlers may dissapear suddenly. Usually the ref gets bogged down with school and stuff too.

Fingers crossed it goes ahead - it sounds wicked

Hey guys, just thought I'd pop in and say hello, considering I'm new and all and need to get to know everyone.

While the ASB itself isn't very new to me (I've played over at SPP and UPN for about two years), this is an entirely different style that I find much more interesting and less restricted.

I'm currently typing out the Mock Battle and Contest scenarios. They take a lot more effort than they do at SPP or UPN, that's for sure.

I'm sure I'll have fun here, though =)
