Just wondering... do any of you think that having uber Pokemon like Regirock, steel and ice on your team make your team look n00bish? I aint having all 3 but on my new team, I am considering on using 1.

I don't use them because I don't like that they have relatively weak attacks and because I don't like their tpes and/or I already have their type on my team.

This topic sucks. Also note that you have a kyogre and a lati*s in your team and your telling us having a regi makes the team newbie. Haha.

It's a decent topic. Regi's are ok. Steel makes a good damage sponge, I like it for that.

The Regis are fine, but Latios/as with sould dew attached will make people consider them as ubers.

Why do people frown on using legendaries on one's team? I mean, Game Freak obviously put the legendaries in the game for a reason, and that's to catch them and battle them. If a certain pokémon fits in your team nicely, then use the pokémon. It's not like it's diseased or something, and you can't use them or something. They're pokémon, and the point of the game is to battle them, no matter if they're more well-balanced in the stats or whatever.

"Well-balanced" is one thing. Obscenely overpowered is another.

Blame Game Freak for making obscenely powerful pokémon, not the user of said pokémon.

Well mixed feelings, for two on two, yeah they would be oobish, since it would take a long time to take down but look at pointless and odd faces, their attack sucks, stick a toxic tm on them or shark it on one, raise the special defence or defence lower speed, and you have your self a tank without ammo. IF something was put into the game, and if it is so hard to get to it, Can't read the dots, then who cares. Most people don't use robots over animals

Hey there is nothing wrong with using legendaries. If they are pokemon then who cares? If people like them it does not matter.Who cares if they are powerful it is fun to have a challenge wouldn't you agree??

obscenely overpowered, yes.. but there are many factors that screw them over (not by much, but still enough)

1.) stat exp.. you can only max out 2 of the 6 stats, unlike gsc.
2.) counters.. every pokemon (even kyogre) has some sort of counter. ho-oh's counter is rock, lugia's is zappy & skarm, mewtwo's was curselax (im going by gsc for m2 and loogy), rayquaza has ice, deoxys has high attackers, kyogre has shedinja, and not sure about groudon
3.) limited move compatability (rbygsc oobers only).. lugia no longer gets curse, mewtwo no longer gets any good fighting moves besides brick break, mainly since r/s cant trade with rbygsc
4.) skill/luck.. perhaps the biggest factor of all. a team of 6 regular pokes by a skilled player is most likely to beat the **** out of a noob's team with 6 oobers. if a skilled player were to use an oober, chances are that luck would be required to screw it over.. the only exception so far would be ho-oh, since he gets ohko'ed by any thing with more than 300 attack that gets STAB for rock slide. Lugia isnt really much of an attacker unless hes got a booster move (curse in GSC, calmmind in r/s). Lugia can easily get psuedohazed away, just to stall it out of pp and/or kill it using a SE attack. Now that mewtwo gets calm mind, thing can get VERY ugly.. its rby amnesia mewtwo all ovr again.

groudon has kyogre. But enough of that, it's my opinion that, and although I don't use legendaries in my team, it's a shame when such a powerful pokemon doesn't reach it's full, trained, potential. I usually train them independently just for fun.

It does require more skill than using Uber legendaries. What moves do the regi's learn anyway? The only moves I've seen them know are just average type moves, nothing special.

I personally hate legendaries. It's like fighting someone with a gun and all you have is a knife. Sure you can win, but it's not exactly on equal grounds. But if we both have guns (or both have knives), then the winner will be the better gunsman... and THAT is the true test of being a skilled player (winning on equal grounds). Sure you might be someone with a legendary on your team, but could you have done it without that legendary? If you can, then I'll say you're better than them, if you can't, I'll think you're worse even though you beat them.

The regis arent that uber. The metagross you have listed as your opener could kill all 3 Their movepools arent anything to think much about and their main strength is their ability to absorb damage. unlike the uber legends who are a tier above the competition due to their massive stat totals (mewtwo, lugia, ho-oh, kyogre, groudon, and mew thanks to his bottomless movepool)

Kyorge's counter is that its Auto Rain Dance will allow Thunder to always hit it and Groundon's is his Auto Sunny Day allowing a solarbeam to hit him in just one turn

no it does not. you may be someone who despises legendary users and still have no skill. it just makes you think you are battling more honorably and therefore consider yourself a more skilled battler than the legendary users.

Okay, this is my two cents...

Legendary pokemon certainly are impressive. They have a bad attitude in a lot of places because they have strong stats and learn good moves most of the time. In the current game there's a bit of a difference admitedly as there are some normal pokemon a lot stronger than the legendaries in this game.
The stats thing obviously means they are stronger most of the time but let's stop and remember Mewtwo for a second. Remember him? He was pretty strong until Houndoom took down three of the damn things in a row. And I am not that good a trainer! I am a self confessed fool when it comes to choices and movesets, and yeah all these pokemon were at the same level and Mewtwos knew more than just psychic attacks. It was mostly 1-hit KOs with crunch.
To be fair though most of the legendaries can be good sweepers and really clean up the opponent if they don't have much of a strategy. I've been there and been wiped out like that. With the right moves and assuming that their accuracy and stats stay ok they are strong. Again, anybody remember Mewtwo on Stadium and it's bizzare weakness to 1-hit KO moves? It seems that any high stat pokemon has a weakness to 1-hit Kos, but maybe that's just what I'm seeing.
I think mostly the reason not to use legendaries is just because people will give you hell about it. They'll say that's the only reason you won etc... and besides it cuts down your pokemon choices a LOT! Personally I like the legendaries but I know how often they fall victum to strategy as well as I know how good they can be. Nace has a legendary team on the Gold version.

K, that's all I have to say. Feel free to tell me how dumb I am, I admit I am not too good at this I play for fun not to win!

This might sound stupid, but the reason I don't use them is because I figure if pokemon were real & we were all real trainers there'd only be one of a certain legendary & I don't think I'd be the one to catch any of them.

I think regi's are ok to use - i wouldn't feel 'cheated' if i lost to someone who used one (don't know about two or three though...).

I've heard you can indeed use regi's and lat*s in the battle tower - is this true?

Gligar_Man - I like your regice move set but could you recomend something to replace toxic? I'm already using toxic on another PKMN plus i just don't like the idea of a ice PKMN using it...

Maybe Hail could be a characterful second best (works well when switching in a castform too )?

I agree with Vega. A certain quote brought up a while ago in a discussion like this one could definantly be used right now (I forget who brought up the quote, but I commend you for bringing it up at that time, whoever you are)...

"Strong pokemon. Weak pokemon. That is the selfish perception of humans. A good trainer should always try to win with their favorites." -Karen

Excuse me if I messed up on the quote (I did it from memory), but you get the jist of the quote. We should forget about "looking skilled because you use underused pokémon. Just use your favorites, wheither it be a legendary, or otherwise. If we did this, we would all be happy, wouldn't we?

Edit: I decided to put that quote in my signature, just in case any of you actually care. Although I request of you all that if you notice a mistake in the quote, to please tell me how to correct it. It would be much appreciated.

but in that case, everyone would have teams of 6 oobers..

IMO, however there should be an oober clause rather than an oober ban (oober clause would just allow you to use one oober, while oober ban doesnt let you use any). sure, some gsc vets may dissagree with using oobers, but it would change the game a little bit.. i thought that rather than using all standards (in GSC's case, pokemon like blissey, raikou, clyster, suicune, heracross, marowak, etc), that using oober clause would spice things up a bit. *puts up an anti-flame shield*

There is the full , exact qoute (from memory aswell), and i havent played crystal since January .

To stop this from being spam, I am gonna train up a registeel, with + defence!!

Well, Kari... I'm not doubting that what you mentioned wouldn't be the case all of the time, but in my case, at least, I'd only have one legendary, if at all. And I'm sure that there are other people around here that wouldn't have a team of 6 legendaries...

Ace: Thank you. I'll edit the my quotes right now. But I also remember something about the "selfish perception" of human, mankind, something.

Yeah, 00bers shouldn't be banned. You should be allowed 2 legendaries at max(although not two 00bers). That way you can't be using a suicune/raikou/kyogre, although a raikou/kyogre would be acceptable.

There is alot of rules that could be changed.

I don't know if he's an Über or not, but the only legendary I'd actually use if I had access to every single pokémon (Including the Ruby/ Sapphire ones) would be Zapdos.

I was reading this thread and I saw someone mention Soul Dew.

What is it's effect, and where can I get it?

  33. #33

soul dew = boosts lati@s' special attack and special defense by 1.5x (coughRIGGEDcough)

you can get it on latios in blue or latias in ruby. unfortunately, besides the eon ticket or whatever it is, there's no way (currently known) to get them.

  34. #34

So, in other words... An unobtainable item!

I thought when you the 4 stars, you receive the Eon Ticket. Saturos supposedly did this, and he was given the Eon...

    Great liars!
