The thunder crashed outside the cold stone walls of what once was called the Church of the Guiding Light. No living thing had set foot within these hallowed walls since its caretaker was killed in the fight for the human race seven years ago. Indeed, there were few living that had actually known there was a battle for the very survival of the humans of the world. One night was all it took, one night, and many dead. But most humans had gone on as nature indended they do, blissfully unaware of that which was not staring them directly in the face.
The night was cold, as the wind whipped violently outside, but she felt none of it, not even as a broken window occasionally sent stinging sprays of cold water upon her face. Her eyes were intent at what she had come for. Her hands shook as she gingerly picked up the large leatherbound book, worked in gold script. "Know thy enemy", he had said once, and indeed as she opened the book those words, written in a neat flowing script, echoed her thoughts like a ghost of the man himself.
Too many memories. The ghosts were heavy here, ghosts of the time where she feared for her life more than any other time. Here and there were smears of blood that told the story clear as words on a page. She did not want to be here. But she had what she came for, so drawing her cloak tighter around her and the book to keep both as dry as could manage, she swept from that haunting place of memory, and down the streets of Wood Water.
Its been seven years since the night that almost broke the world. Seven years since the natives of Earth, both human and vampire, drove off the invaders from the City of the Night high above in orbit around Earth. Their leader, the great and ancient Vampire known as Lantis, was killed just before dawn on the Night of the Blood Moon. Humans, dampiels, and vampires worked together to ensure the safety of all the world, for the invaders saw the Earth as theirs by right, and cared not for how much blood must spill to see their claim.
They had underestimated the determination of the inhabitants, and, indeed, living within their safe prison amoung the stars, they could not forsee the changes that had occured far below. The struggle to survive on the planet forced the humans to adapt from the docile cattle the vampires from the City had been used to.
But the ashes had long been blown away, dust from years ago barely worth remembering by those who knew of it in the first place. Life had gone on, the dead have been buried and laid to rest. There would always be those who mourned, but these also have realised the importance of living, for those that have died did so to ensure life to others.
Life had gone on, but darkness still rode on the cold wind as another fall turned to winter.
The wind blew past the streets of Wood Water, blowing across the tops of trees bordering the countryside, pine and oak, the latter all but bare of its leaves. The wind continued, harder and faster as it rose higher, past the cliffs bordering the ocean, dark as night and frothy, past villages and farms, until it seemed to hit an invisible wall at the edge of a City not unlike Wood Water. Here the wind had died, though it was no less cold. as small flakes of snow drifted slowly to the quiet street.
No living thing walked the streets tonight, but that didnt stop the shadows from drifting down each stone alley, it didnt stop Those Who Were Not Alive from roaming about Their city. For they were Lords, and the City's inhabitants were theirs to use and command.
And after all, who was there to say no to Those Who Dream at Sunrise?
Since Brandy has been a little bit on the busy side as of late I'm going to go ahead and be the one to post the start topic. LSU's are still being taken with approval. Also some of you still have profiles to post (I'm looking at Kalah, JT and Dru!
)
In any event I myself am currently unable to get the ball rolling. I will however set the stage for someone to make a first post introducing their character if they wish. Please remember to repost your profile prior to your first post as your character so it can easily be found for reference on this first page. Finally as a friendly reminder while this is many thousands of years into the future keep in mind that technology has been lost for the most part. This is based on the world of Vampire Hunter D after all ^_~

As the sun starts to set a cold wind blows through the streets of the city and it's surrounding forests and mountains. Various trees and buildings are covered in frost and snow as flurries fall upon the land......
