Why is english so popular as a second language in Finland?
Did you know that if I've understood correctly, we here in Finland may choose Swedish as a second language but most of us pick English? Did you know Swedish differs from Finnish so much that it's almost as hard as English for us and what's more, children want to be in the same class with their friends so most of us pick English?
Why is english so popular as a second language in Finland?
1) There's no excuse for laziness, but I'm working on it!
2) I will live forever or die trying
3) It's only funny until somebody gets hurt...............then it's hilarious
Isn't it because we hear it all the time on TV, for example? Isn't it also because millions of websites are in English?
Why is it heard on TV so much? Wouldn't most shows in Finland be in Finnish not English?
1) There's no excuse for laziness, but I'm working on it!
2) I will live forever or die trying
3) It's only funny until somebody gets hurt...............then it's hilarious
Who can count that? Anyway, don't you know for example The Bold And The Beautiful and Late Night With Conan O' Brien are quite popular here?
How would a person that doesn't live there now that those are popular shows there?
1) There's no excuse for laziness, but I'm working on it!
2) I will live forever or die trying
3) It's only funny until somebody gets hurt...............then it's hilarious
Aren't you just right about that? Should I have rephrased my question?
Didn't you know that Mikachu Yukitatsu is always bringing up FInland since he lives there?

Isn't that just so correct? And how come MToolen gets on topics of Finland, too? Do you have relatives or such here?
Do people usually have some relatives in other countries besides the one they live in? Would any of you leave your country to visit a faraway relative if you had to?

Haven't some Finns moved to America as well?
Don't America (and Canada, too) have citizens from other countries?

What does 'chunky' mean? Why did I find www.tracetech.net inadequate again?
Could it mean that "chunks" of ethnicities tend to group together instead of spreading themselves out? Should I explain more in future metaphors?
Can you imagine I understand now but I still don't know the original meaning of the word?
Isn't it possible to look up the original meaning of a word by looking up the history of the word?

Should I say Finns at least study both English and Swedish at school? You didn't know all the other languages are optional, did you?
Can mods please close this so we can continue the discussion in a new version?
