Default The TPM Fantasy Football League - Season Three!

Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the third season of the TPM Fantasy Football League! Will the reigning champions, the Detroit Firebirds, become our first repeat winners? Could the Pikachus regain the glory of season one? Or will a new star rise to glory in a brand new competition?

The league will use the same settings as last year. Head-to-head scoring, top four teams make the playoffs. It's as simple as that. All you need is a Yahoo! account and the guts to take on all comers. Do you have what it takes?

Our draft is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. This may be changed based on when everyone else wants to draft. But even if the eventual time and date don't work for you, go ahead and register! You can always have the computer autopick your team if you can't be there.

With that said, the TPM Fantasy Football League is open for registration! Click this link to set up your team. It's free to play, so get in the game!

    Good luck to all!

After falling one win short of the championship in the inaugural TPM fantasy league season, the Tennessee Torpedoes took a shocking tumble in year 2, missing the playoffs completely. Bitter, disappointed and slightly hungry, the wily team packed up and headed north to the rugged Canadian wilderness. They've trained, they've suffered, and they're back. But now... they're the Vancouver Cougars.

And they're ready to reak some old fashioned Canuck-styled whompin' - I'm talking Todd Bertuzzi-type destruction!!

Going to a ballgame on the evening of the 30th. >:O

Oh, and do fractional scoring this time if we're going to continue using the 50/6 and 20/6 settings for QBs and RBs.

Okay, I think it's a worthwhile proposal, so let's take it to a vote. There are currently five non-commish teams in the league: the Castleford Tigers, Poison Myst Returns, Vancouver Cougars, Detroit Firebirds, and Wild Karrdes. The new Myst have already voiced support, so if two of the others do the same, we'll have a 3-2 majority vote for the scoring change.

    Yay? Nay? Vote now!

I never figured out how the scoring worked last time out.

    Can someone explain that?

Find the scoring tab and read what it says for full details. ;/ Most importantly, you get one point for every 50 passing yards your starters have, one point for 20 rush/rec yards, and six points for every TD. Defenses score points through sacks, turnovers, and holding the opposing team to low scores.

In the past, these have been non-fractional points. Last year, you would get zero points if your QB threw for 49 yards. if your RB rushed for 99 yards, you would only get four points. Under fractional scoring, you'd get 0.98 points and 4.95 points for your team, respectively. Only yardage can produce fractional points.

Standard fantasy scoring these days is usually 20/4 for QB and 10/6 for RB/WR/TE. The old 50/6 and 20/6 scoring system currently used in our league favors touchdowns more than yardage. On its own, not a big deal. Combined with non-fractional scoring, yardage really gets hosed because you lose out on the partial points gained from yardage (as shown above) but TD scoring is unaffected since you can't score a partial TD. Fractional scoring also makes ties nearly impossible.

Experience talking, a lack of fractional scoring screws too many people out of wins. I vote for fractional. Rawr fractional!

I guess we're looking at the return of the infamous BYE team - hilariously dragging Brian's rating down to 50% in year 1 for running the best team as well as the worst.

I apologize for my recent absence; just got done moving into an apartment. The internet was activated here today, so it's back to business.

Does anyone else want to change the draft date and/or time? Act quickly if you do... we'll need a suggestion for an alternate date/time, for one thing, as well as enough time before the draft so that people can vote on which option they prefer.

Regarding the possibility of a BYE team, don't forget that there's currently about a week left before the draft. Recruit your friends! Challenge your enemies! Confront random people on the street!

I can't miss this, I've still got a bone to pick with Kainashi about losing in the championship last year. This year I'm team Riemann Zeta. One thing's for sure, I'm not drafting Tom Brady in the 4th round this year. Hopefully my first 3 picks won't be epic failures either.

Pfft, I hardly ever know when's good for me... Usually I've got work off on Sundays and Mondays, but I can never be too sure. The only day I have off definitely is Thursday... Every other day I'm at uni, or work. But I don't want to be too much of a bother, in all likelihood I'll have to auto-draft.
(Considering as well I'm speaking Australian dates here) - if you shift the draft to the evening of the 31st, that'd be Monday morning for me, that would (probably) work for me.

Depending on the time the 31st would be ok though Your evening is like middle of the night/morning here. Unless im on an allnighter (which i often am) ill end up auto-drafting again.

Sorry, it seems I didn't explain explicitly enough. Would anyone like to propose an exact time? That way we can vote between whatever is suggested and the current draft time & date. A vague range like "the evening" leaves too much room for people having isolated conflicts at various points.

Just so everyone's aware, I'm going to set a limit on league changes to protect unwary managers from unexpected changes. Any proposals that have not been approved by vote after Sunday (going by Central Standard Time) will be automatically dismissed. If you want a different draft time, get it approved before it's too late.

I wouldn't want someone to arrive for the draft and find out that the time has been changed at the last minute; the same goes for other settings - the only exception is the maximum number of teams, which may be adjusted at my discretion. (I'll only do so to allow more teams to register or to prevent an odd number of draft teams at the very end. Anyone who's registered is in, so don't worry.)

I propose Sunday August 31, 10am EST (UTC -4). Should be a reasonable time for most people, unless we have people from the Western US or Siberia. That's September 1, 12am in Eastern Australia, hopefully that's fine for UC. Hopefully it won't conflict with my trip to Boston either.

Alright, we have a proposal to change the draft date and time to Sunday, August 31st at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. There are currently eight non-commish managers; five must vote for the change for it to pass. DTZ has cast his vote, so four more managers are necessary.

Be aware that we need a quick vote. I'm holding to my previous statement, so if this proposal doesn't pass by midnight Monday morning (CST) then it will be cast aside.

So yeah. That pretty much covers everything. You have the information; you decide what to do with it.

Is Australia ahead or behind the Uk timewise since its either Gonna be Midnight Saturday or Midnight Sunday (presuming it is a straight 12 hour difference). Either shouldnt be a problem i just dont wanna end up being a day late.

Also one thing ive noticed is that it says 'Your head to head league will not be able to start the season if it contains an Odd number of teams'.
...is that gonna be a problem?

In London, it is now 8:23 p.m. on Saturday. In Melbourne, it is 5:23 a.m. on Sunday. Does that help?

Not at all. I'm hoping to recruit some more people before the draft, and hopefully we'll end up with an even number. If we don't, however, I'll just create a "BYE" team and intentionally draft players who aren't active this year. Michael Vick for the win!

DTZ, UC, and Mr.E have voted for the change. But two votes still have to be cast in support of the change for it to pass, and they have to be cast within the next five hours and 40 minutes. I probably won't be online at that point, but if the measure has not passed by then, please consider it quashed.

EDIT: It's Monday, and five votes have not been gathered. Sorry. The motion fails, and the draft date and time are set.

Welp, at least I set my pre-draft rankings this year... Of course, last year the default autodraft got me the best team in the league so whatever.

The draft starts in just a couple of hours. We still have time for some last-minute registrations....

For all the managers already in the league as well as anyone thinking about taking part, I look forward to competing with you!
