His Majesty's Dragons

"Sir, they're approaching fast... incredibly fast..." The 2nd lieutenant cried out, pointing towards the horizon as a large fleet of France's ship appeared largely against the sun.

"They'll be here in less than an hour... prepare her men!" The captain shouted, as all the sailors busted into action and began to prepare the mast, the cannons and were sure to make sure their ship was in shape. She was one of many of the British fleet and fear did not strike him nor any of his commanding officers. Napoleon's navy was something to look at, but nothing to be feared- he was confident in their numbers and their Navy skill was far beyond that of any Frenchman.

"They're awfully gutsy to be approaching us head-on like this..." The captain's first commanding officer inquired quietly, to which the Captain paused and then nodded in agreement. It was odd for them to be so bold when clearly their five ships were outnumbered twice. It could only mean that either this was a tactical diversion or...

"The sky!!" One of the men cried out, pointing and immediately the Captain's heart sank. There in the sky was a fleet of at least twelve dragons- a familiar blazing mottled red in the lead.

"Water! Prepare for water! As soon as that devil comes down, fire as quickly as you can!" He cried, signaling to the other ships with green and red flags to inform them of the danger ahead.

The roar was deafening as three of the dragons descending, two large Yellow Reapers smashing into the mast as the blaze of guns went off. One of them gave a cry of pain, staggering in wing beat as it flew lower for a moment, trying to climb higher. Its wing was badly shredded however from the fire and immediately it plunged into the water, along with its crew. Satisfaction ran through the crew, until a cry rang out.

"Behind!"

Indeed it had only been a distraction and the Flamme-de-Gloire opens her jaws wide and unleashed a blazing fury upon several of the ships. Cries for water rang out amongst them as they struggled to put out the flames, as more dragons descended with eager attacks. Gunfire rang out less frequently now... the struggle to put out the flames serving quite the distraction.

"Oh bloody hell..." The Captain said quietly as he noticed that the French ships were closing in and not even half of the dragon fleet had descended upon them yet.

Welcome to the historical time of Napoleon, where war rages mainly between France and Great Britain. Historically, this world mirrors our own in every way except for one very important aspect- Dragons are also involved. Everything else is, for the most part, the same- historical figures like Marco Polo, Napoleon etc... they exist. The same technology as back then exists, save for some leather harnesses that are used to equip dragons with bombs and other humans to ride.

In this world, Dragons make up a force called the "Aerial Corps"- a fleet made for fighting by air. Every country utilizes dragons in such a manner, although how they utilize them varies from country to country. There are several different types of dragons that generally vary from country to country as well, although trades have been made and breeding is of utmost importance. Dragons are extremely valuable and prize-worthy.

Every dragon has a "rider". How one becomes a rider, again, varies but in Great Britain they train boys (and some girls) from age 7 or so to train to work in the Aerial Corps. When they have proven themselves (after working ground crew or flight crew for a dragon- see below), they can be chosen to attend a 'hatching'. A hatching is when a dragonet is about to hatch, and when the egg breaks loose the chosen rider takes a small harness and attempts to harness the dragon. If the dragon accepts the rider, it will go into harness and the two are bonded forever until one of them dies.

Dragons are EXTREMELY protective of their riders and will do anything to save the life of their rider, even against orders. Also, most dragons are very intelligent and are capable of speech which they learn while in the egg. Some dragons vary in degrees of intelligence (some only being able to think simple-mindedly) while others, such as Chinese dragons, are incredibly smart and bred for such. Other dragons are bred for size, abilities, speed of flight etc...

Harnessing can happen by accident and can vary- what I have told before is Great Britain's basic practice. If an egg were to hatch 'accidentally', then a dragonet might randomly choose a person close to them as their rider. Also, dragonets have been known to deny a chosen rider and then a few more are offered. If a dragon refuses to be harnessed, they are deemed 'feral' and sent to breeding grounds.

There are wild dragons, but they are off in less populated areas and are not thought of well.

Dragons are treated the same in most areas of Western Europe. They are kept to special bases to be trained in Nova Scotia (for England) and that is where riders and their dragons learn how to do military formations and use their proper talents. Dragons are not allowed in big cities, due to the fact that the entire population would panic and flee, etc. People who go into the Aerial Corps are usually social outcasts, for they are not thought highly of in 'high society' for becoming so attached to dragons and plus, they're not super social being raised in the Corps since 7. In times of military action, many dragons are kept in military bases where large parts of land are set aside for them. Special cattle/sheep is raised for the dragons as well, so they are fed regularly etc.

Some large dragons have crews assigned to them. Their rider is the leader or Captain, but crew are kept aboard to attend to the dragon if it gets hurt in flight, to drop bombs below or they are specially trained to fire rifles in air at other dragons and their crews. "Boarding" occasionally is attempted, where one dragon's crew attempts to board and kill the other crew. Rarely do enemies kill riders, but prefer to keep them alive so that their dragon does what they wish. If a rider were to be killed, the dragon usually goes wild and rampant.



In this RPG, you will be signing up as a rider or dragon. You may have two sign-ups- one rider and one dragon. If you wish to play the rider AND the rider's dragon, go ahead but I encourage signing up separately. That way you have the opportunity to already interact with other RPers by RPing their dragon or rider. NOTE: If you sign up as a dragon, you are NOT to give your dragon a name. The person who will be your rider will give you a name. Heh! Because that is how it works in the RPG and makes things a LITTLE interesting.

No Chinese or Japanese breeds are allowed in this RPG, yet. Due to the fact that China is very secluded and a totally different ballpark than any other country.

If you wish to be a rider from a different country, go ahead but please be sure to give a reason as to why you'd join Britain. All riders will be new and starting out in Nova Scotia for training, although I will allow a few people to sign up as a vets who are there to help "train" the newbies.

Name: Arianna Fletcher
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Appearance: Arianna is considered tall for a woman, being around 5'8" with a thin build. However, toned muscles can be seen from her small framed if given the chance to expose some of her skin, showing that she is not one to be mistaken for a 'fair lady'. Her skin is pale but considered tan for a European- having spent many days in the sun on aerial missions as flight crew for other dragons in the past. Her hair is a sun-bleached blonde, matching her fierce olive green eyes well although it gives them a bit of stark contrast. Unlike most women in the Corps, she is well endowed and has a difficult time hiding her gender and thus usually doesn't make a point in doing so. This usually makes things difficult when working with other branches of military (they not being so fond as having women, thinking it crude and rash).
Personality: She was born into a poor family and placed into the Corps because her family could not afford to keep her or her brother, and so as a pair they were sent in. She has had decent schooling however and unlike most of the younger Corp members, she continues to read and practice her writing. She realizes she is more feminine than most of the women in the Corps (who usually are flat-chested and wear men's clothing), and because of this she is usually wary around any male- they tend to get rowdy, being so far away from towns usually and secluded from women when on duty. Because of this, she can be very blunt and harsh in her tongue to keep men away, but when gaining favor with someone who treats her with respect, she is incredibly polite and cheerful. Fiercely loyal to her comrades, she believes in duty before herself and would sacrifice accordingly.
Nationality: British
History: Arianna was born into a higher middle class family, but poverty struck them when the war hit and hurt their incoming supplies in trade. She was the youngest along with her brother in a family of seven, and her family was unable to afford to keep both of them. So in honor, they sent the two of them to the Corps- who were desperate for men (and women). Arianna has been training to perhaps harness a Longwing egg, although with so few of them available it seems that her chances might not ever come.
She has been in the Corps for a good amount of years, although she is still considered new since she came into the Corps at age 14, not 7 like usual. Thus she has had to work extra hard and has often fought to show she can learn quicker than most and still be in the ranks with those who have been in the Corps for much longer.
Dragon: Natilai (Kna-til-eye), Longwing (Classy Cat)
Relations: She has an older brother in the Corps as well. (Anyone may play him if they'd like).
Other: Arianna is quite fond of Natilai, enjoying conversations with her whenever the opportunity presents itself. The harnessing of Natilai was rather pleasant and she was relieved to find that the Longwing was even-tempered and quite intelligent. It doesn't bother Arianna that her dragon is a bit shy, although she often encourages Natilai to be a bit more outgoing. Natilai's egg was acquired through a series of trades with the Spanish- at first they were to trade the longwing egg for a fire breather. However, the egg was sent back just before Napoleon came to have a prominent hold over them. The Spanish had decided to not go through with teh trade, from the pressure of the French. She is not quite sure how Natilai came to know French, although she thinks it might be due to the French-Spanish border and perhaps the egg was along the lines of inspection.



DRAGONS

Name: Emily Elizabeth Matilda "Django"
Breed: Kazilik
Appearance: She is a very large dragon, being considered a 'heavy weight'. Still being young, she has not reached his full size yet- which is 110 feet, but she is only 80 feet in length at the moment. Still, Emily "Django" is quite beautiful despite her rather fearsome appearance- a nice row of black spine-like thorns protrude from her spine all along her body, and two great, slightly curved-upwards horns protrude from her head, attached with fine-like spines along the back side of her face. She also has two distinct smaller horn supon the top of her head, above slightly before and directly above her snout.
Her coloration overall is some-what odd of a Kazilik. She has a brilliant shade of red all over her body, but instead of having colors of mottled green and black markings, she instead has brilliant gold and black markings. All of her horns, talons and spines are black, blending nicely into her overall red color. However, along the underbelly and the inside folds of her wings are sunset gold colorings- patches of it occurring along the rim of her wings as well. Her eyes are also a golden color, but are not slitted to look like a snake's eye but more of a cat with intelligence behind them.
Personality: She is quite sure of himself and tends to be extremely impatient. She does not enjoy long periods of pointless resting and sometimes will amuse herself, which resorts to mischief on occasion. She is very battle hungry, as is a common trait in her breed, and often needs to be soothed or told off so she doesn't dive into battle at every chance (which Alexander fails to do at times, much to the dismay of his comrades) She is very protective of Alexander, to the point where she will not let him ride upon any other dragon other than herself. She realizes she is not like most of the dragons in Britain, and because of this she often feels as if other dragons treat her differently. (This will be fleshed out more as she develops.)
Languages: Turkish, English, French
Talent/Ability: She breathes fire, training so that she can exceed five minutes of fire breathing at once although she is up to only three. She is not as agile as the other dragons, being a heavy weight but she is quite strong and often fails to realize that she should be careful do to keeping her special ability, instead of brashingly pretending to be a Regal Copper and using their 'bashing' technique.
Other: Emily was stolen from the Turks when in the egg by the French. It was placed upon a ship heading to France, when a British ship intervened and captured the ship and its containers. The egg was an extremely valuable find, and it swiftly was sent to England where it hatched. (thus explaining how she knew the languages). Upon hatching, she claims that she had been hungry and Alexander had some spare food within his pocket and then after a short while, she deemed him 'worthy' of being her partner. Their adventure on the sea to Britian was remembered by most, much to the dismay of the sailors- for she often would try attacking anything that she thought was challenging her- whcih was occasionally a sailor or two. Alexander seemed to find this 'all in good sport' although some of his comrades did not find it QUITE so funny. She's now almost full-grown, and since then has grown very fond of Alexander although she snarks at him on more than one occassion.

Hmm...looks a little short.

Name: Natilai
Breed: Longwing
Appearance: Natilai's still a little small (40 feet), but her 80-foot wingspan makes up for it. She's colored a jade green with bright red markings to match her deadly red eyes. The two horns on her head are short but sharp, as well as the short horn at the tip of her snout. The spines on her back start at the back of her neck, starting large and getting smaller until they become bumps at the end of her tail.
Personality: She's usually quiet, giving one- or two-word responses when she needs to talk. Because of this, many think of her to be less intelligent than she really is. Sensing this, she acts like that with others except her rider whom she she is much more talkative with. Like the rest of her species she only lets females ride her, but she carries a slight resent towards all males, human and dragons. She does her best to "protect" her rider from "dangerous" guys. When angered she's known to have an acidic tongue.
Languages: English, Spanish, French (I found my brother's English-French dictionary)
Talent/Ability: Acid shooting and long-distance flying.
Other: When she thinks no one's looking she rolls around on the grass to scratch hard-to-reach spots. Anyone who's seen this says she's like an overgrown, scaly puppy. She and Arianna enjoy their conversations together, especially those that aren't battle-related. Thinks that it's her duty to make sure Arianna doesn't fall for someone that doesn't pass Natilai's inspection.

Name: Simeon
Breed: Flecha-del-Fuego
Appearance: Standing at a comfortable 42 ft tall, TBN is a proud dragon. The red on his body is bright and bold; it starts from his nose and travels all the way to the middle of his back. The edges of the red look like someone splattered paint on his skin and it just stuck (some have compared this too blood, but he dislikes the comparison). TBN is a pearl black, the shade coats most of his body save for his upper back, top of the neck, arms, and head (that’s where the red is). His wing web is white with some red splatters here and there on them. TBN’s eyes are a fierce emerald green like a snake’s. His horns and the spines in his frill are white, while the frill itself is a mixture of black on red.
Personality: TBN is proud dragon, not overly to be blind, but just enough to have respect. He doesn’t get attracted into fights easily, rather to stand back and watch. Easy enough to get along with, TBN gives everyone a fair chance and will listen to all sides of a story before being objective. What does get this dragon miffed is when someone implies he’s standing back because he’s a coward. It’s then that his tongue will fly and insults will come pouring out of him faster than most can keep up. He calms down quickly or slowly depending on the situation, either way he doesn’t hold grudges, believing forgiveness is better than brooding over something.
Languages: English, Spanish
Talent/Ability: Exceedingly manoeuvrable, TBN practiced long and hard to be one of the most dexterous and agile dragons (has wings like the Angelwing). He can also breathe fire up to 50 yards and continue for 1 minute before having to stop.

Name: William Fletcher

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Appearance: William best resembles one of the early fighter pilots of history, though in period dress. He has a rough set of goggles and a heroicly waving white scarf. He has lined the collars of one of his uniforms with white fur though he keeps it hidden unless he is to be sent out alone as it is against regulations. He is often seen with an unlit cigarette hanging out of his mouth, feet asunder and declaring his latest story of adventure upon TBN. His short cut blonde hair, prominent jaw, and flashing blue eyes complete the image of the consummate adventurer pilot.

Personality: William is the archetypical roguish pilot, adored by women and envied by men. He enjoys testing himself and his dragon and they complete maneuvers that are usually deemed impossible. Despite this his brash personality hides some deeper insecurities about his own skill and competence. He sees it as his obligation to constantly one-up himself and to fall behind and fail a missions is not just a failure to his country but to the very essence of what he is. He beats himself up over the smallest of mistakes but never lets it show, or at least never tries to show it. He compares himself to his sister and he own work with her Longwing and always finds the shortcomings in what he does to drive him to greater heights of daring and success. He may drag himself down with the weight of his own expectations if he is not careful and one day the stress may just get to him.

Nationality: British

History: Same as Arianna except that recently he harnessed a Flecha-del-Fuego and has been training to fly escort for larger dragons. He tries to meet with his sister as much as possible, never knowing what fate has in store for either of them, secretely hoping he will be assigned to fly with her.

Dragon: TBM, Flecha-del-Fuego

Relations: Sister Adrianna

Other: He is striving to be the first British pilot to ever complete a double reverse cobra into a port sky-hook. A move that has been discussed amongst pilots for years yet never completed successfully.

Name: Isabella Covas Callas
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Appearance: A tomboyish lady of 5'2", brown eyes, tanned skin and medium build. Isabella doesn't have a woman's figure so she tries to look like a boy. She wears a men's uniform since she has a flat chest anyway. Her dark brown hair is cut very short, but she still has a feminine face. Which doesn't look very feminine when she gets angry. She wears a necklace with a dragon's claw around her neck all the time, something that she's had since she was a baby.
Personality: Isabella has a dual personality. On one side, she's soft-spoken and caring, even seemingly nervous. But there's always an aura of silent confidence around her. She almost acts motherly toward her dragon. But that's one side. There's also the Isabella that, when provoked, speaks rough, laughs loudly, punches hard, and drinks men under the table. Surprisingly she's never had to worry about hangovers, and she never drinks when there's a mission coming. The only time she seems nervous is before a battle, and only her dragon knows about it.
Nationality: Spanish
History: An attack on her village left Isabella homeless and without parents at the age of two. She was sent to the orphanage where she learned how to fight in order to earn the boys' respect, as well as cook and treat wounds. At age seven, a soldier for Britain adopted her as he was a friend of her father. He told Isabella how her father was a great pilot and that the claw belonged to his dragon. She went with the man to Britain where she trained for the Aerial Corps. Because of the time spent there, she'll mostly speak in English but with a strong Spanish accent.
Dragon: Alejandro, Greyling, Roy Karrde's dragon
Relations: none
Other: Acts as Alejandro's protector, stopping fights that he causes before they start. Unfortunately that sometimes leads to her arguing along with her dragon. The egg was en route to France by some very chatty French soldiers when the British intercepted it. Her adoptive father insisted that they let Isabella harness the dragon. Once Alejandro started talking it was a difficult task to get him to stop, as he was speaking in French and Isabella couldn't even understand the language. She's now grateful that he doesn't understand Spanish since she sometimes mutters how he needs a "sound spanking".

Name: Alexander Gainsborough

Age: 25

Gender: Male

Appearance: Alexander is six feet tall and fairly good-looking. Not WONDERFULLY and ABSOLUTELY good-looking, and some people say that his nose is too long &c. &c., but well. Above average, at least. He is quite built up as well, in a lean and spare way. He is tanned (as a sailor should be) and when in uniform, scruffy (perhaps not this); his dark, slightly wavy hair is bound in a ponytail. More often than not, he's got some sort of tribal accessory hanging around his neck or wrists. His eyes are dark grey, heavily eyelashed, and always seem to be half-closed or drooping, as if he's about to drop off to sleep.
He talks in a sort of fascinating, wound-out drawl.

Personality: A lazy bastard, in both generally accepted meanings of the word (more on this in History). Laid-back and good-natured, and rarely loses his temper. Almost never seen without a vacant smile on his face, he gets along with everyone. Alexander is of the type that takes "que sera sera" to new levels. He does everything and sees everything philosophically, although despite having been in the navy for 10 years and witnessing quite a few wars, his outlook can be overly pacifist. In return for this peaceable, easygoing attitude, it could be said that he lacks motivation and drive.
He was brought up a good Anglican, but in the years away from home his religious views have become entirely whimsical. He likes to experience new cultures, and finds interest in the most uninteresting things. Often makes inappropriate remarks or mentions random trivia, and punctuates these with an equally inappropriate quiet laugh. Consequently, many people think his head is full of air.
He keeps it to himself, but he is actually rather shrewd, and is an astute observer. He does not lie, but when it is to his benefit, he leaves his information full of holes.
He rather likes wine and women, song being optional.

Nationality: British/Romany

History: This particular branch of the Gainsborough family was, and is, a fairly well-to-do family living in Bloomsbury Square, London. Alexander's father Robert, the only son, had a fling with a Romany or gypsy woman, the resulting child of which was Alexander. Much to the family's horror, Robert Gainsborough married the Romany woman and took the child in, though she died while delivering a stillborn two years later. Robert Gainsborough, now a practicing lawyer, eventually remarried, this time to his cook (again to the chagrin of the rest of his family); the result of the union was twins, now 15, and later another child about 10, all girls.
...So the point of this tl;dr is merely to say that Alexander, despite being half gypsy and technically illegitimate, is actually the heir to the family fortune, such as it is.
...Not like he really wants it, but hey.
To an extent, the wanderlust in his Romany blood pushed him to apply for a commission in the Royal Navy, and completely on purpose, he went on voyages to the most far-off lands; he's been even to the mysterious Far East. He is fond of his half-sisters (who fawn upon him) and tends to bring back lots of souvenirs for them from wherever he happens to go.
On a return voyage from the South China Sea (with the British East India Company), his ship was signalled for aid, and captured a French ship carrying a very precious cargo.
As regards everything about Riders and harnessing, he is almost completely clueless. This... promises to change.

Dragon: Emily Elizabeth Matilda "Django"; Kazilik

Relations: None that are currently being played by anyone. Incidentally, he has many different girlfriends in many different countries.

Other: He was a lieutenant on the ship that captured the French ship carrying the Kazilik egg; in fact, his platoon was the very one that raided the cargo. In the midst of the confusion, the (very large) egg hatched. After this, opinions vary on how the Kazilik hatchling settled upon him as its Rider; Alexander says it was due to his good looks (and got roasted by Emily-Elizabeth-Matilda-Django for an apparently erroneous report), while the other seamen have come to the conclusion that it was because he was the one holding the egg when it hatched and that he was the first person the hatchling saw.
He cannot speak much Romany, and in his mannerisms is essentially English, although he's picked up various languages here and there, mostly Asian.

[Roy Karrde]

Name: TBA
Breed: Greyling
Appearance: He is short and thin, barely able to hold a human rider and that is with out any real armor or gear attached to the human. His skin is a dark gray, with small black spots. His length isn't much longer than about 15 feet long, with a 20 foot wing span. His wings have a few small holes at the end but nothing too serious. He also lacks horns, his breed lacking them to allow for increased speed. He has almost no offensive capabilities, everything from his wings to his claws treated and sculpted to provide for the greatest amount of speed and maneuverability.
Personality: He tends to be a bit cocky, having been able to out race several stronger species of dragons he tends to have a pretty high opinion of himself, and tends to boast about what he has done in his previous adventures. Because of this he also tends to get himself into situations with other dragons in which he mouths off too much, and thus has to have his rider bail him out before he gets into a fight that he cannot win.

Talent/Ability: He is considered a scout, having been bread for speed he can usually out maneuver any dragon, and out race any dragon. Because of this he is usually called on to fly into enemy territory with his rider, scope out the situation, and get out of there before anyone is able to give chase.

Appearance: Not one to bear with the frills expected of her, Turon typically wears long sleeve shirts and pants. She likes to pull her dark brown hair back but keeps her blonde bangs loose to partially hide her sea green eyes. A scar run from her right shoulder down to the back of her left hand.
Personality: Friendly and willing to help pretty much anyone with anything. She prefers to avoid a conflict with a peaceable solution, although when things come down, she would still prefer to fight rather than run away- although she always leaves the option open for a retreat if necessary.
Nationality: Irish
History: Born and raised within easy sight of the sea, she would spend hour watching English riders practise over the strait. enthralled by the concept of flying, she ran away from home in order to join them.

DRAGON

Name: Arnaud
Breed: Grand Chevalier
Appearance: Arnaud is the colour of ominous, smoky grey storm clouds from above, with a delicate chain of silvered scales picked out down either side of his spine. His belly, however, is a mottled cream – like rich, fresh yellow cream. It fades to a whiter shade at the legs, and under his chin it is more silvered in colour. Arnaud’s wingspan is gigantic, with colouring of yellowed cream underneath and silvered grey atop. His wings are very finely-boned, but the sails themselves are thicker than usual in order to keep his great mass aflight (Arnaud weighs in at around 46 tonnes – just to the heavier side of a normal Grand Chevalier). Arnaud has hooked, razor-sharp talons at the tips of his wing-bones and his elbows, ideal for dropping on prey from above like the proverbial stone. Obviously he has weight on his side, but just for good measure if you’re not crushed to death, you’ll be rent to shreds instead. Hurrah! His tail is thick and spined at the tip, but he mostly uses it for balance, rather than battle.
Personality: Arnaud is prideful and can often be aloof. His size and weight lend him enough gravitas to rarely be challenged, and the only person he’ll talk softly with is his rider. He has a booming, deep voice that is sure to be heard for miles around, and a bluff way of speaking that often fails to take into account people’s feelings, or the consequences of his words.
Languages: French and Prussian and a very small dash of English.
Talent/Ability: Being bloody gigantic generally helps things along. Arnaud is also deadly accurate from above – sight like an eagle allows him to spot movements easily and quickly and he has an understanding of air currents that allows him to fold his wings into a dive that is surprisingly graceful for one so big.
Other: Can be extremely clumsy around smaller things (this being... most things).

Name: Ewan Campbell-Bruce

Gender: Male
Appearance: Tall and muscular, standing at 6' 4". He has long, unkempt reddish-brown hair and plenty of facial hair too. His face bears scars, especially a long one down his left cheek. His nose has also been broken several times and as such is slightly mis-shapen and out of place. Dark, brown eyes and large eyebrows. He wears standard uniform, except for a traditional tartan garb he wears over his torso.
Personality: A loose cannon, he can often be reckless and foolhardy. Loud, over bearing and slapdash, some would not consider him suitable for service. However, he is brave, loyal and smart, not to mention incredibly resilient. He loves the thrill of battle and is very much a risk-taker, and is relishing the challenge of riding such a large dragon.
Nationality: Scottish
History: The son of Scottish nobility, his ancestors had spent much of their time living in France during the Jacobite rising, hence his knowledge of French. He was born in France but left at a young age due to the rise of Napoleon. He moved back to Scotland and grew up learning the rich history and being enveloped in the culture. He gained a fascination with dragons too and wanted to join the war, hence why he signed up.

Name: Arael
Breed: Xenica
Appearance: Arael is a middle-weight dragon, being about 55 feet long and having a large wingspan, being about 90 ft (so about almost twice his length, although not as impressive as a Longwing). His body isn't bulky in appearance, but slender and more thinly built although his length and wingspan classify him as a middle weight, even thoughs he is only about 11 tons in weight.
His slim body gives him a rather elegant look and his lack of spines and very few horns make him look less fiercesome. Two whitish blue horns protrude from the top of his head and there is a little spiney frill about his jawline, but it is quite small and nothing more than to look perhaps like decoration. Fin-like frills run down his spine as well, but there are no horns and the 'fin-like' appearance doesn't have the jagged edge that fish would have. Towards the end of his tail is more of a flipper-like patch of flesh, much like a dolphin has but matching his spine protrusions. Between his claws are also similiar webbings.
His coloration is pale blue overall, with patches of black coloration upon the tip of his snout, tail and upon the ends of his wings. His underbelly is white, with a few flecks of white almost 'paint spatterings' upon his feet, which gives him a comical appearances as if he had gotten into a batch of fresh paint.
Personality: Extremely intelligent and quite curious, he is often asking questions about anything that seems even remotely curious. However, with his intelligence also comes a very relaxed attitude- his not quick to anger nor is he quick to any sort of action. He listens to orders readily, but isn't afraid to ask a question if he disagrees with the "intelligence" of the order. He often likes to watch the other dragons as well, quite curious by their varied personalities.
Languages: English
Talent/Ability: It is rumored that his breed (being a bit rare and not well-catagorized) was derived from Sea Serpents, although that is a guess as to his breed's odd knack for water. Having slightly webbed feet and obvious adaptation for water, he is an excellent swimmer and can hold his breath underwater for quite a time. While he isn't the best fighter, the fastest nor the strongest, his scales seem to be of a thicker, more hardened density which shows by his few scars compared to the other battle-ready dragons.
Other: He is a sucker for roasted lamb, something he was accidentally fed as a dragonet. hence, he loves his meals cooked.

Name: Ianto Evans
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Appearance: Ianto is at a height of a respectable 6’2”, and is commonly thought of as handsome in a quiet, rakish kind of way. His hazel eyes have a habit of twinkling without his knowing about it and he’s not averse to winking in an almost patronising way at anyone who deserves it. His blond hair is almost always bound in a braid at the back of his neck, and he sports an azure headscarf which covers his forehead and ties at the back of his skull, though it leaves the top of his head exposed. His clothes are simple, piratey garb; a dirty, scruffy white linen shirt, top three buttons lost long ago, navy blue, baggy pantaloons that tuck conveniently into the top of his mid-calf-length black boots and billow out attractively. He wears a piece of bleached bone on a thong around his neck which he claims was taken in a dread battle with a rare Japanese behemoth beast, but in actuality he found it on a beach somewhere in the mists of his childhood. This bone is seen to be a sort of good-luck charm, and Ianto has a habit of rubbing it with his thumb when he’s nervous or excited.
Personality: Ianto is, well, a bit of a rogue. This comes of being brought up aboard a smuggling ship surrounded by coarse, ribald piratey types who have little consideration for the delicacy of a small Welsh child’s ears. Despite knowing at least 50 songs about women, wooing women, and doing other, rather more unspeakable things to women, Ianto is almost painfully shy around the fairer sex, having a tendency to hide behind crude clichés to get by. Needless to say, this hasn’t earned him much luck with women (the fact that women aren’t allowed aboard a ship obviously doesn’t come into the equation).
To all others, however, he is a pit full of snark. Sarcasm, he was always told, is the lowest form of wit, a fact which he applied himself to improving. Now he is firmly certain that it is the highest form of wit, and one which frequently sees grown men run crying from a well-placed remark.
In Chiharu, Ianto found his ideal snarking partner, although towards her, his sarcasm has less of a bite. Never the most conventional of dragon-human pairs, Ianto and Chiharu think of themselves more as partners than a dragon and her rider.
Nationality: Welsh
History: Ianto’s mother died in childbirth, leaving his sailor father to be his sole protector. As a way to make ends meet, his father turned to smuggling and then to full-on pirating, taking young Ianto with him wherever he went. As a result, he speaks a variety of Asian languages, including Japanese (his most fluent), and snatches of Chinese, along with his native Welsh (taught by his father), English, and a fine selection of ribald pirating songs in Prussian, French and Italian.
On what should have been a routine smuggling job, his father got hold of what he was told was a dead Japanese dragon egg. It lay in the cargo hold for a full year before an 8-year-old Ianto on an exploration trip stumbled upon it. Bored on a long voyage from Dejima back to Wales, he would sit with the egg, singing it songs day after day until one day, to his shock, it hatched and a blue dragon tumbled out into his lap. Ianto shrieked, having only heard of dragons in fireside tales on the shores of Japan, and bolted for the deck – but not before the hatchling had latched onto him as its primary caregiver. Ianto managed to keep the dragon (whose name was Chiharu) a secret for 9 weeks before the ship’s captain suddenly began to get suspicious of the distinct lack of rats aboard their previously rat-infested ship.
Some years later, Ianto and Chiharu were partners(-in-crime) aboard their own smuggling ship. From the ship, Chiharu has access to all the fish she desires and then some, as well as the freedom to fly whenever she pleases, instead of having to stay away from populated areas.
It was only upon returning to Wales that Ianto finally realised the scale of the wars going on around him (most prominently, that between Nova Scotia and France).
Dragon: Chiharu, Sui-ryu.
Relations: None so far, but open to suggestions.
Other: Ianto feels no particular affinity to any country save his ship, and never really feels comfortable unless he has wooden planks beneath his feet.

oh! And just so yah know, (might add some interesting conflicts), I imagine the pair might get bothered a lot by the warring countries, in attempts to bribe the pair to join them in fighting. I'm sure the two, with their various businesses (lol, or sort) would be known by quite a few locals who would leak their where-abouts or information to higher-ups. So perhaps the Britts and even Napoleon have made attempts to 'recruit' him.

Just an idea though. ^_^
