    LOST
    [god’s unwanted children]

It is the 23rd of December, 2003, and the last place I want to be is on a godforsaken aeroplane in the air over Hawaii. Thing is, they’re paying me double time. I should have asked for triple, working Christmas Eve, but being the soft bastard that I am they only had to ask once. Gotta think of the money, the wife’d say. Yeah, I gotta think of the money. It’s only the money that keeps me coming back to this job anyway. Oh sure, you might think that being a pilot is glamorous - hell, I even thought that myself for a few years - but give it a few months working the night shift with group after group of pissy passengers and even a saint would crack. Me? I’m no saint. But the wife says I gotta think of the money, so here I am, working on sodding Christmas Eve. Taking all these bastards back to their sodding families so they can spend one more glowing Christmas together as a sodding family. Roasting chestnuts around the fire and all that shit.

I flick switches mechanically at the right moments and make encouraging noises as my co-pilot, Jeff, rambles on at my side. He never shuts up, that one. If I wasn’t such a grumpy bastard, I’d probably enjoy the chatter, but as it is I tell him to shut up and he does, with nothing but a hurt glance at the side of my head.

Suddenly, a flash of white illuminates the sky and I hear myself yell out in shock. Within seconds, the emergency sirens are blaring out and Jeff is swearing under his breath as he rapidly flicks switches that should never need flicking, and makes the announcement that every pilot dreads making.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is an announcement from your co-pilot. We seem to be experiencing stronger turbulence than we expected. If you look up, you will see that oxygen masks have been lowered. For your safety, we ask that you follow the in-flight attendant’s instructions as closely as possible. And, above all, do not panic. You’re in good hands. Thank you.”

He turns off the com and looks straight at me, his lips pinched together so that he sort of reminds me of my grandma. I laugh nervously, my voice somehow too loud. I can barely think for the noise filling the cockpit, and I know I shouldn’t be scared - I’m the pilot of this sodding heap of metal - but somehow, all that goes out of the window as another white flash sears my eyes and I’m jolted nearly out of my seat by the “turbulence” that Jeff had mentioned minutes earlier. I feel my seat belts tighten and the breath is squeezed out of me as they do their job faultlessly - holding me in place as effectively as a vice.

My last conscious thought as my plane plummets to the ground isn’t one of my wife, or of god, or of my huge, comforting family. It’s of a single quote from a film I haven’t seen in four years.

“You know why they put oxygen masks on planes?”

With my last breath, I laugh - a sharp, windless gasp of irony. Blank faces, calm as Hindu cows.

Well! I’m surmising that, if you’re reading this RPG, you either watch or like the tv program Lost. This RPG is based entirely off that – so if you hate Lost, if it makes you want to smash things up with all those goddamn unanswered questions, please, read no further.

For those of you who, like me, are obsessed, welcome to the RPG! There are a few ground rules, as usual, to be laid out, and then we can get onto the good stuff – the details.

There is to be no god-RPing. Everyone should know that by now, but it bears repeating. If this should occur, your host reserves the right to call upon the mysterious black smoke to smite your character from the face of our island. ^_^

There is to be no, under any circumstances, spoilers for the show. This RPG is set on the same island, and will no doubt have some similar events, but it will not have the same characters. Anyone who spoils the show for those who haven’t seen all of it will be smoke monstered. You have been warned. :3

I think that’s about it for the rules, really. Use your discretion in terms of spoilers, and if in doubt, pm me. Your almighty host is a Lost obsessive, and can no doubt shed any light on any dilemma you may encounter.

    -----*-----

On to the details! This RPG is, as I said before, based on Lost. Some of you may have heard of the program. It is not, however, going to contain the same characters.

In essence, it is a survival RPG, I suppose. With a little adventure and mystery thrown in, but more of the plot will be revealed as the RPG progresses.

As for what characters you can have; well, you can be on the plane as it crashes, you can be on the island already (but pm me if you want to do this – ideally, I’d like very few “Other” characters), or if you wanna be really wild, you could be some sort of monstery thing (once again, pms are advised! Your host reserves the right to deny entry of anything too outlandish).

For now, I will be playing only the pilot whose viewpoint we see the intro from.

Oh also, anyone who wants more than one character, please feel free!
Other than that, I haven’t got much else to disclose right now. Onto the signup form!

Name: (obvious. Nothing outlandish – this IS set in the “real world”).
    Sex: (yes/no? M/F).
Age: (once again, obvious. Keep it between 18 and mid-thirties, please).
Appearance: (what you look like, yes/no?).
    Personality: (duuuh).
History: (why were you on the plane/island/a monster? The usual).
Relationships: (whether developed on or off the island).
Luggage: (what did you have with you? Obviously this is quite important if you’re stranded on an island somewhere unknown with no hope of rescue).
    Other: (POTATOES!!)

    My signup;

    Name: Samuel Hewley
    Sex: Male
    Age: 30
Appearance: Sam is middling in height, nothing special. His eyes are a lovely shade of blue and his hair, shoulder-length and ponytailed, is faded blonde. He wears jeans and shirts when out of uniform, but when working, his pilot uniform is navy blue, comprising of snappily ironed trousers (crease and all), and jacket with a crisp white shirt. This is topped off with a sharp, piloty hat, also navy, with goldy bits on.
He has rather a long nose, and a small scar across his right eyebrow where no hair grows. His hands are slender and somewhat girly, but mentioning this fact to his face will often result in said hands being punched through your face. Best not to, really, he has a wicked right hook.
Personality: Sam has a tendency to be hot-headed. He swears like a champion and won’t stop for anybody. He’s an Englishman-moved-to-America, and as such, feels the need to be overly... well... British sometimes. Just to prove a point. You know, that the British complain a lot, and love the rain, and are unbelievably nosy.
Though he seems prickly, he has a good heart (somewhere), but a terrible tendency to procrastinate and he seems to take a twisted pleasure out of being grumpy.
History: Sam was the pilot of the fated 235 flight to New Zealand on Christmas Eve. He’d spent the necessary time at flight school, got married, and piloted for seven years up until the crash. No children – he’s not exactly fond of them.
    Relationships: Open. "Friends" with Vicky.
Luggage: Being at work, Sam didn’t really have much in the way of luggage. A small overnight bag with toothbrush, toiletries, two clean shirts, a pair of ragged old jeans and a Wilbur Smith book that he always meant to start but never did.
Other: Realllllly likes coconuts. Has an odd ability to make things out of them – clothes, mats, deckchairs, a makeshift wig, you name it.

    -----*-----

And finally, so I don’t get sued; the quotes in the intro are taken from the film Fight Club, which is very good indeed and should be watched by all, and is in no way made or owned by me. See below for the quote in its entirety.

Tyler Durden: [pointing at an emergency instruction manual on a plane] You know why they put oxygen masks on planes?
    Narrator: So you can breathe.
Tyler Durden: Oxygen gets you high. In a catastrophic emergency, you're taking giant panicked breaths. Suddenly you become euphoric, docile. You accept your fate. It's all right here. Emergency water landing - 600 miles an hour. Blank faces, calm as Hindu cows.
Narrator: That's, um... That's an interesting theory.

    Name: Bryan Thatcher
    Sex: M
    Age: 26
Appearance: Bryan would be considered a decent, good-looking guy. He stands at a height of about 6'2 with a lean, muscular build. His years of distance swimming shown in his broad, toned shoulders and his small defined waist. He has a strong, handsome face- a lean, angled jaw with some faintly prominent cheek bones. His eyes are a forested green, only amplified by his thick long lashes that many women have envied him for. His hair is a messy, sand-washed brown with several blonde highlights from being in the sun too long.
Personality: Bryan is the type to keep to himself and not bother much of anyone in social situations. With a good, clear-minded head on his shoulders, he tends to analyze all situations before going into them and rarely tries to get his emotions in involved. With that being said, he is a caring and compassionate person, and tends to worry quite about in regards to others. He's not the type to get angry easily, but if he feels threatened or that someone else is threatened (regardless of who it is), he has the nasty habit of turning ice-cold. (I might edit this a little bit with the more I flesh him out)
History: Bryan was an American who fell in love with an Aussie. He was born in the midwest, but after graduating college his degree took him to San Fransisco where he worked as a specialized vet for the exotic animals there. Being an animal lover with a passion for science, he did independent studies on animal behavior and the like.
As it was said, he eventually met and fell in love with an Aussie named Claire at a local restuarant. She was visiting the area and the two hit it off. After a year of dating, he flew with her to New Zealand to visit her parents. The two were then heading back home when the plane fatefully crashed.
Relationships: Claire his fiance, who died in the plane crash. (Anyone else is welcomed, although I suppose it'd be more future relationships? I'm open to ideas.)
Luggage: On his carry-on he had his wallet, two small packets of Advil, a bottle of water and some reading material. He also had an Ipod, but it ran out of charge on the flight when he had forgotten to charge it previously. In his checked luggage, he had a week's worth of clothes, toiletries, some pictures, etc...
Other: Most likely during the course of this RPG, he will be saying, "I'm not a doctor..." xD Which I'm sorta hoping no doctors sign up so he can say that a lot. xD

    Name: Logan Landcaster
    Sex: Male
    Age: 25
Appearance: Lancaster is built like a bull who enjoys a good workout and as a result is reasonably fit. He has a chiseled face and broad shoulders. He wears his black hair long and shaggy and often has a smile in his turquoise/bright blue eyes.
He has a seal tatooed on his upper right arm and the word 'Pax' (latin for peace if you didn't know) on his left upper arm.
Lancaster typically wears jeans and his steel-toed boots year round and wears dark or forest coloured hoodies and wears a white full length coat with a black tuque. Warmer climates bring a change to solid coloured t-shirts and either a black ball cap with his home town stenciled on the back on white or a dark cloth headband to keep his hair out of his eyes. In any case he always wears a shark tooth necklace, a .303 casing on a string and a real rabbit foot strung on a thong made of polar bear sinew. A plain dive watch is on his left hand while a simple bead bracelet is on his right.
He loves to traval, especially to rural or 'wild areas" but usually not with a tour or a guide, choseing to see the nature form the unbeaten trail. Because of his native ties, he wears a hunting knife with a carved handle on his right hip. (obviously he's not wearing it on the plane)
Personality: Generally easy-going, Lancdaster is quiet and soft spoken- often avoiding human contact. Despite his anti-social tendancies, he makes friends easily and loves to have a good time. When something upsets him, he can become very intense and has been seen at the head of the odd blockade in protest of Aboriginal freedoms.
History: Curious about meeting some of his aborginal 'cousins' in a Hawii islands, Logan was on his way to one of the less poplulated islands to meet a tribal cheif he was told about.
Relationships: casually dating a girl named Sammi Chapmen back in Canada
Luggage: clothing for four or five days (extra pair of jeans, socks, underwear, extra t-shirt, a hoodie), his knife, peice of flint can of Ax (unopened- for starting fires)
in his pockets: lighter, half empty pack of cigarettes, a set of keys, his wallet
    Other: Ojibway native

Default Re: LOST ~God's unwanted children [sign ups]

    Name: Sarah Forge
    Sex: (not likely) Female
    Age: 23

Appearance: Sarah is noticeably shorter than her sister, standing at only 5’6”. She has the same shade of blonde hair as Vicky but hers is naturally straight. It is much shorter and only reaches halfway down her neck. She has no fringe and likes to keep the edges of her hair tucked back behind her ears because it irritates her to have her hair in her face. Her eyes are a stormy blue-grey which seem to shift between varying shades of both colours – thought whether this is purely random is actually linked to her emotions remains unknown. Sarah is the sort of girl who is considered to be attractive in the delicate sense. She has a lean build but the noticeable lack of muscle makes her appear more fragile than she really is.
Following her sister’s advice, Sarah wore a pair of dark blue jeans along with a white v-neck shirt. After protesting her fears that it showed too much of her bra, Vicky forced her into a black waistcoat that Sarah was intent to keep buttoned fully at all times.

Personality: Sarah tends to come off as being very shy but the truth is that she’s very reserved. She’s afraid of letting people know what she is because she wants them to like her for who she is and not what she can do. Because of this she is very careful about what she says and who she says it to. Vicky is the only exception to this even though Sarah realises that the relationship they have now is nothing compared to what it was before they were separated. Anyone who gets to know her will find her to be very friendly and compassionate, which is surprising considered the work she does.

History: Sarah’s ‘gift’ was obvious from early age and so it has been her curse for as long as she can remember. She is considered to be somewhat of a genius and for some reason that is all anyone has ever noticed about her. Her parents pushed her into as many different academic areas as she could cope with, teachers were forever praising her and her own classmates saw her as either a freak or (when she got older) a stepping stone for their own gain. Because of this, she began to withdraw from people and became cautious around them. The exception to this, of course, was her sister. Vicky never treated her the same way everyone else did and so Sarah grew up idolising her.
When graduation neared, Sarah decided that it was time for her to do something on her own. Because of how people had treated her, she was shy and timid and was prone to following instruction. She would even obey her sister without question although this was something that Vicky never chose to take advantage of. Despite having a fondness for the arts, Sarah felt that she should use her gift to benefit others and so applied to Yale. A place, she hoped, that would better her to a point where she could be of better use to the world than a stepping stone and where she would be around people who maybe, just maybe, had endured the same things that she had. She convinced her parents that she would find a way to fund herself – as they had nowhere near enough funds to pay for such a thing – and took off America.
Vicky vanished almost immediately after she arrived and though Sarah wanted nothing more than to find her, she had made a promise to herself and focused on her studies. Try as she might though, she could not find a way to finance her venture and when almost all her hope was gone, she was approached with a mysterious offer. Although it conflicted with her moral values, the desperation was too much for her and she accepted. Her time at Yale passed without complication and upon graduating she began working full time and even managed to earn herself a promotion – placing her at the top of her field. Chance granted her a reunion with her sister and she has been keen to spend as much time with her as is possible.
She was on the flight because her boss had ordered her to accompany her sister.

    Relationships: Her sister Vicky.
Luggage: A notebook filled with sketches, some pens and pencils, a bathroom travel kit, a few spare clothes and a laptop computer.
    Other: *ponders irrelevance of ‘other’*
    WANTED:

Experience preferred although training will be provided.

Name: Victoria (call her this and you DIE.) 'Vicky' Forge
    Sex: (no) Female
    Age: 26
Appearance: She's tall for a woman, standing at 5'10'' with blond hair that's layered and almost straight (has a slight wave to it), but is often pulled back in a ponytail (her hair actually reaches to below her shoulder). Her eyes are a hard, calculating, icy blue with a dark-blue edge to her iris. Her skin is tan from all her traveling (she usually never travels anywhere cold unless she has too), and her body has a healthy build on it as well. Vicky is usually wearing some sort of spaghetti strap top, and semi-loose faded jeans. She wears glasses that are thin framed (frame's black), she hates them, but they don't look bad on her. Overall she's a very attractive woman, though she usually seems apathetic to people's problems.
Personality: Vicky is friendly enough, though she doesn't tend to care about other people's problems. She seems distant to most, and doesn't talk to people unless necessary or they speak to her first. Vicky absolutely refuses to grow attached to anyone, and the only person she even seems remotely concerned about is her sister Sarah. She seems very apathetic and quiet to most people. Highlight is, most things don't bother her.
History: She grew up a normal life, and became a Police Officer in Toronto (that's in Ontario, which is in Canada, for those who don't know). However, she quit when she was twenty-two and fell in with the *very* wrong crowd. She lost all contact with her family for four years until her sister accidentally ended up working for the same man. She was on the plane to New Zealand to complete a task her boss gave to her, but is apparently going to be delayed...
Relationships: Sarah Forge (Samchu's character) is her sister, "Friends" with Samuel.
Luggage: Weeks worth of clothes, toiletries, spare pair of running shoes, notebook, pencils.... She also has a pretty silver gun, with two clips of ammo and a switch blade stored in a separate case that was in the cargo hold.
Other: She always introduces herself as Vicky.

I might have another character coming. Depends on how lazy I am. :3
