    So guys, rate your top three bands. Then, the person underneath MUST watch and comment on them before they post their own. This prevents a whole lot of "OMG I LOVES SLIPKNOT!" "OMG I LOVES KELLY CLARKSON"

    And the thread dies.

    Mine, electro, techno, electro-house stuff with side of soft pop/rock.

    Some of my fav bands whom you must listen to are!

    DAFT PUNK (Two guys who act like robots and play/Dj/remix some of the sickest music.) - Their concert was brilliant. The crowd crush, was not.
    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oGECJP3phyY

    THE PRESETS (Two Aussie guys) sing and jam their way through some awesome and catchy songs. Catchy, catchy shit. And they're ubercool. But, lookout, they're becoming too popular of late Again, the crowd crush scared me. I couldn't breathe at Splendour.
    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTSYQkyknK0

    SAM SPARRO (A gay Aussie guy) He makes some catchy electro stuff. I love his cover of American Boy. But here's his Number 1. He's going to be big GRRLS.

    Daft Punk -- The only one of the three I've heard of. And I love their work, especially "One More Time" and "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger". They had their songs in some animated movie that I saw one time on Cartoon Network back when they had the Toonami Midnight Run block (god I missed that). And without them, Kanye West wouldn't have "Stronger". *dodges trash thrown by anti-Kanye people* I'm not a big fan!

    The Presets and Sam Sparro I haven't heard of.

    For my three:

    Maroon 5 -- I like their music, their not-too-weird-and-flashy videos, and I sing their lyrics in the shower. I haven't seen them in concert although they were in Birmingham last month (I so wanted to go too). They did a great collaboration with Rihanna.

    Asian Kung Fu Generation -- I listen to Jrock a lot more than other kinds. These guys are one of my favorite Jrock groups. The vocalist tends to scream more than sing but I don't care. They really rock out loud, and they've made some of my favorite anime music.

    Uverworld -- Another Jrock group, this band's music varies a lot more. And I like the way they switch between hard and soft; it makes their music very emotional.

    Maroon 5- Eh... I liked them a little when they first started making it big, but haven't listened too much since then. Not my cup of tea.

    Asian Kung Fu Generation- Heard of them, but don't know much... and YouTube is being stupid.

    Uverworld- Never heard of... and again, I can't get YouTube to load.

    My three, according to the past year's scrobbles on Last.fm-

    Wednesday 13- My favorite musician, and has been for over five years. He is much love... http://www.myspace.com/officialwednesday13

    Combichrist- Much love as well, and a new affair of mine. Agro electo industrial goodness.

    Corvus Corax- Gotta check these guys out... All of their music is based on medieval manuscripts. Bagpipes ftw!

    [Annie] - Kurosakura says: Dru Dru, your RP's not rated M XD
    Drusie says: Oh fuck.
    Headbutting a car = not fun! says: It is now.

    Wednesday 13 and Combichrist - eh... not my thing, I can't really get into it at all. Corvus Corax seems pretty sweet though, definitely interesting.

    As for my top 3, it's hard to say, but I'll try to narrow it down

    Animal Collective - absolutely brilliant music. These guys ignore what anybody thinks music should sound like and it is just amazing. Give the song a chance, it may sounds like just noise, but out of the noise comes the most beautiful music.

    Arcade Fire - I don't know if these guys are really in my top three, but they're up there, and this song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.

    Neutral Milk Hotel - If not my favorite band, then by far one of the most influential to me. Jeff Mangum is just magical. I highly advise any and all of you to check out the album 'In The Aeroplane Over The Sea,' one of the best albums ever recorded in my opinion. (also if you enjoy them you should hear this song.. one of the VERY few shows the reclusive Jeff Mangum played after they broke up. Absolutely beautiful.

    Animal Collective - Ive never heard of these guys and now i know why. I thought the wierd noises was the song then heard the tune coming and thought hmmm, that could be quite cool mixing if done right. Then the vocals started and i wanted to go back to the wierd noises...

    Arcade Fire - The only one of your choices i had heard of though if im honest i couldnt name you any songs. Theyre not bad just not really my type of thing.

    Neutral Milk Hotel - Im sorry, no. I find your tatse very strange. It may be the video but he sounds drunk/shouty, i cant make out a word hes saying and ive seen more competency down the local on Jam night.

    As for my choices.....(and im aware i might seem a little Mainstream)

    Foo Fighters - Simply because they stand apart from the crowd. A little mainstream these days but i feel thats because these guys were so popular. They made that type of music Mainstream and noone has managed to match them yet.

    David Gray - This guys is my inspiration. It took him the best part of a decade to get his first album signed to a record label but his dedication kept him going. Hes a fantastic singer/songwriter/musician. About as far from 'manufactured pop' as you can get and just as good (if not better) Live as he is in the Studio and very few acts can say that these days which is why a few of these vids are live versions.
    The link on his name is called Shine, one of his earlier songs and really good.
    Babylon, This Years Love, Please Forgive me, Hospital Food, Your the World to me
    Just a couple more of his best but have a look around, theres plenty more.

    I dont actually have a 3rd that i can rightly put up here with these two. My opinion alters from day to day but these two acts are always at the top.
    I could mention any number of acts from REM and The Beautifull South to James Morrison and Take That (the New stuff, not that crap they used to do as kids)

    I only know the Foo Fighters from Guitar Hero 2. I actually got my high school pep band to play "Monkey Wrench," though. And I have nothing on David Gray.

    PFR was a Christian power trio from the 90's. I just really like their sound, their blend, and their message.

    Josh Groban is my voice idol. I like the power in his voice, his tone and clarity.

    They Might Be Giants is just silly, and I like them that way.

    I *heart* Josh Groban, his voice is so sexy and I like the way his songs sound. And "They Might be Giants" are pretty good too, but I cant rank them amoung my faves just because to me they are "ok" but not "great". And PFR, I thought that singer was a really ugly girl at first lol but yeah I actually like it too :>

    HERE ARE MY BANDZ XD

    (Disclaimer: It was hard for me to decide which three are my ultimate faves because I like a lot of diff bands, so Im also adding my Youtube profile here in case for some reason you wish to browse my extensive collection of fave songs rofl)

    #1: Boys Like Girls Im a big fan of harmony and these guys have it. I also like thier song Hero/Heroine, the music is very uplifting and all around it just sounds so great

    #2: Muse I love this band, I love the way they write songs and the music is so wonderful too. Most people wouldnt understand but when I listen to music I get impressions of colors and patterns based on how it sounds :X and this band is just beautiful

    #3: Coldplay this one I had trouble deciding who it would be but I finally decided on Coldplay because I love almost every song theyve made, theyre just awesome, and this one sounds epic lol

    BTW Gav I like David gray too and you did him justice when you sang his songs

    1. I like Boys Like Girls, I think I saw them in concert actually. I like the Great Escape, though that line that talks about driving around drunk probably isnt the best influence, but eh! I like it haha

    2. I LOVE Muse! my fav songs by them so far is time is running out, and supermassive black hole.

    3. Ok, I hate coldplay. sorry LOL. I'm not sure what it is that I hate about them really, I just get annoyed every time I hear a song of theirs

    ok, time for my picks. I'm kinda all over the board with the kind of music I like so here goes!

    ~1. the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wmfas...eature=related - I couldn't decide what song to put up, I really like them all. The song called 'Your Guardian Angel' is my favorite song EVER, which is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wip3J...eature=related

    ~2. Bullet for My Valentine - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m_MJX58qk8 my friend dubbed this as her "angry music" but I like listening to it even when I'm not angry haha

    ~3. FIREFLIGHT - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCUfHQSsC2c k, probably no one here has even heard of them, but I love pretty much all of their songs.

    PFR: they've got a tight sound, and good vocals. But I like bands that are more innovative -- they sound a bit bland for me.
    Josh Groban: awesome voice indeed. Oh the smoothness...
    They Might Be Giants: Hehe, comedy bands are awesome! The vocals are a bit annoying; I prefer Arrogant Worms and Tripod. But their silliness is infectious!

    Hmm, can't decide on my number three. Guess I'll go for the most obscure, to mix thinngs up.
    Muse -- Knights of Cydonia if you have time, Hysteria if you don't.
    Radiohead -- Paranoid Android if you have time, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi if you don't.
    The Butterfly Effect -- do you see a pattern here? Actually, nah, Worlds On Fire, despite being an awesome song in its own right, fits in too much with the previous two bands. In These Hands isn't their most representative song, but I love the guitar.

    EDIT: Obviously, I spent way too long picking these songs out. 'Scuse me

    I just have to say Sam earns epic respect points for listing Bullet for my Valentine. I've seen them about three times now. Fireflight I've heard a few songs and enjoy. As for mistysakura's selections:

    Muse: I don't have all of their songs but I'm researching them lately and love what I hear. Knights of Cydonia reminds me of Christmas 2007 and the awesome beer drinking evenings playing Guitar Hero III.

    Radiohead: It's a band I'd really like and seems to fit my style but for some reason I just haven't felt the urge to research them.

    The Butterfly Effect: I got the new album and love it.

    Although my favourite bands of all time range from Opeth to The Beatles to Pink Floyd to A Perfect Circle, I'll list what I'm currently listening to most lately. Daft Punk being one of those, but Andrew already listed it.

    Usually my favourite genres are metal, old school and progressive rock, classical and 80's, but as of late I've been getting into electrical stuff.

    Placebo: Only got into them lately, I'm sure most of you know who they are though so no detailed description is necessary. I really enjoy "Meds", "Every You, Every Me", "Pure Morning" and "My Sweet Prince."

    MGMT: Formerly known as The Management. They released their first album this year and are pretty popular in Australia, with "Electric Feel" hitting airways on a regular basis. My favourite from the album has to be "The Weekend Wars". Check it out.

    Trivium: I thought I'd return to my metal roots and they released their new album, 'Shogun', last month. Much better than 'The Crusade'.

    I've also had a thing for Electric Light Orchestra as of late.

    Shazza, I am finding more and more things to like about you . hahaha.

    Placebo are fantastic. Well, when I'm in a Placebo kinda mood they are fantastic.

    I liked MGMT until their airplay moved from triple J to mainstream radio. Now Im not sure if I like them because they have sold out and they're not my special little secret band anymore. Or maybe I'm just sick of hearing Electric Feel everywhere I go, after hearing it every day on Triple J since about July.

    Trivium - I think their best song is Like Light to Flies. Although, I have a total of like 5 or 6 songs on my computer from them, so I don't think that's a fair judgement of them. They are still awesome from what I own

    Now... my personal music taste varies SO much. One day I'll have Tenacious D's Pick of Destiny in my car, the next Jeff Wayne's Musical War of the Worlds, then T-Square, then Dream Theater. Stupid Soong took back his Opeth cd *shakes fist*

    So my three bands are:

    T-Square ~ Go and youtube "Truth". It is the best song ever. If you're into your 80's Synth Fusion Instrumental stuff. It's so funky.

    Dream Theater ~ In particular, track 7 of their album "Awake". Although my favourite song of all time by them is "Metropolis Part 1: The Miracle and The Sleeper." Good to listen to if you have a spare 10 minutes. Haha.

    Architecture in Helsinki ~ These guys are an Alternative / Indie / Electro group from Australia and they are so fun! I wish they would be going to Homebake this year. Check out the song "Heart it Races". Or "Debbie." Great songs. And great filmclips !!!

    Sorry no youtube links. Feeling rather lazy tonight

    Oh I fucking love MGMT. They're brill Shaz.

    Placebo, they're oldschool, but just a bit out there for me. Trivium is a bit heavy for my liking.

    Now, my three.

    Van She - Aussie Electro Band. They're ugly as fuck, but their songs are rad. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=-Qz_Wy8r7hw

    Justice - A french Electro act. Catchy as.
    http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ6jjfSL-wQ Do the D. A. N. C. E.

    This song is my most played on iTunes.

    Finally, the New Young Pony Club
    Seen them live. FANTASTIC.

    Andrew you are so rude for skipping me. Can't believe you. Gosh. Tsk tsk tsk.

    Anyway so I was nice and checked out your bands.

    New Young Pony Club - It was good until she started singing

    Justice - Ohhh this song was on triple j hottest 100. I used to skip it all the time. LOL sorry Andy, but it just got kinda annoying.

    Van She - I like these guys. I always hear them on triple j, but never are able to connect name and music. Yay now i can.

    Ok so my three bands will be -

    Opeth ~ Harvest - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=wxaFANthouM This song is actually one of their softer ones. I just like it. Soong plays it on guitar all the time and sings, and so yeah. It's nice and relaxing. To me anyway

    Comeback Kid ~ Broadcasting http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=syDv050eYMg I played this song in a mates HSC performance a few months ago. We did an instrumental version with Soong shredding over it, but there's something really catchy about it

    Cut Copy ~ Haunted http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0 I SWEAR YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS ONE. This is like my favourite song of the moment. I am going to orgasm right there in the crowd if they play this at homebake - which they probably will because it's one of their most popular.

    Opeth: People keep telling me about the awesomeness and innovation of Opeth, but I just can't get beyond the growling voice. Recently, I've started getting into metal, and realising that there's more to it than screaming. Really, the symphonic complexity blows my mind. But the growling voice still bugs me. Anyhow, this song: the first few seconds were really blah, but the rest of the intro, once the drums licked in, was great. And omg, proper singing! It actually sounds really good. The strumming makes is sound really laidback, but the melody's got this haunting tinge... Actually, the melody reminds me of early Evanescence. Bahaha, this post is getting really long because I'm waiting for the songs to finish before I post. Hehe, the end of the video is gold!

    Comeback Kid: what do you play, Tara? The vocals hurt my ears... But I like the drums. And although the chords are the usual suspects, they really keep the energy going with the guitar and bass.

    Cut Copy: It reminds me of an Arcade Fire song, can't remember which. I really like this song -- very catchy and happy, good arrangement. It's got atmosphere, it's complex, but still laidback: love it. By the way, your link goes to a RickRoll video

    Oh yeah, Dream Theater rocks. I particularly like Octavarium. Portnoy's just so good technically on drums...

    Thought I'd showcase some local talent instead of my faviourite bands, since my favourite bands are quite famous:

    Cog: Say Your Last Goodbye I love the bass on this. Their lastest album is quite political, even having a Rage Against the Machine vibe in some songs, but not this particular song.

    The Verses: Folk, country, rock, whatever. They don't have an album out yet, and nothing on youtube seems to do them justice... Holidays will have to do.

    Hayley Westenra: not strictly speaking local; she's from New Zealand. Folk, classical, pop. A voice to die for. Dark Waltz is from her first album. She's improved tons vocally since then, but it's still one of my favourite songs.

    LOL yes it was meant to go to rickroll. Just to see if people actually look at the links! Love you too Ada.

    Cog ARE AWESOME! Saw them in 05 when they supported Shihad. Good times.

    The Verses I've never really been into folk music...But she is wearing the nicest dress ever. Its nice to see her still making music

    Hayley something Her voice is epic in some parts, one part in particular reminded me of nightwish Do you like nightwish?

    And yes omg Dreamtheater = the bomb diggity. Seriously. <3 x 23489723095780948230

    Ok my three bands.....

    Sonseed This song is the best. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=7-NOZU2iPA8 Just dont question it.

    Graham Central STation http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1IuD6F3R5I Soong is obsessed with this song. I am indifferent. It's got some cool lines in it, but after like 30 seconds I kinda zone out. Haha

    Dragonland http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=iI9IJpR-jzA Originally I found this cos I mistyped another song name - but goodness. It is the most stereotypical power metal song I have ever heard. Don't listen to all of it. I never have.

    Sonseed - Remarkably sound in music and message despite being SO CHEEZY.

    Graham Central Station - A precursor to one of my picks, maybe? But I'm a sucker for that horn section, even if it's synthesized.

    Dragonfall - This sounds like some 4Kids dub theme. Thank you for not making me listen to all of it.

    My picks are all from the 90's OC scene! Which is odd, because I'm in Illinois and discovered them within the past five years.

    Reel Big Fish - This was the precursor song I was talking about. Not exactly a class act, but they have their balance just right.

    The Cherry Poppin' Daddies - They do sing more than "Zoot Suit Riot," y'know.

    The Aquabats! - Really, I don't understand how anyone with a sense of humor can hate these guys.

    Reel Big Fish ~ I went and saw these guys last year. Augh my favourite song is so their cover of Aha. But I guess that's like the poser song to like. Whatever

    Cherry Popping Daddies - firstly, what a name. Just, what a name. That song is so funky though. It makes me want to dance

    Aquabats - Pure genius. I don't mind these guys I find them hard to listen to at times, but they are just SO HAPPY! I like pool party i think that's their best song =]

    Now three of my own,...

    Trustcompany - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=8j-TW6OJyog - I got into these guys because some random person posted a topic called "Trustcompany" asking if anyone liked them. Nobody replied, but like five months later, I downloaded their songs and I don't know... there's nothing that SPECIAL, but I really really like them.

    Funeral for a Friend - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=1ahEs1BR5gg - These guys are my favourite band in the entire wold. I love these guys so much. I will say, their latest two albums have been bitter disappointments ; but I will forever be in love with this song. Heck, I want to name my kid Juneau after this song.

    Arcade Fire - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=rJDsm1Y4kUk - I like this song. It was on Triple J's hottest 100. It reminds me of driving to work from my boyfriends house at 5am. I dont know. Does anyone else associate songs with memories and moments and stuff?

    Trustcompany - Never heard of them but didn't mind the song that you linked.

    Funeral for a Friend - I've always enjoyed Funeral for a Friend from time to time but were never a huge fan.

    Arcade Fire - This song reminds me of summer 2007, and yes every significant song relates back to memories, events, feelings and people. I actually have a word document which lists those kind of songs and based around what kind of times.

    My turn:

    The Beatles - I absoutely love The Beatles, especially their latter drug-induced stuff. However, I still enjoy their early 60s poppish stuff. Everyone knows who they are, but are there many fans here?

    A Perfect Circle - 'The Noose' was what got me into this band, fronted by Tool singer Maynard James Keenan. Thirteenth Step is a beautiful album and I reccomend it to anyone who enjoys Tool orientated stuff.

    Pink Floyd - I was originally going to list Opeth, mainly because today they are Wikipedia's featured article, however they were already mentioned above. Pink Floyd are arguably one of my favourite bands of all time. All of their albums pose a subtle different musical theme and element about it. Most will probably know them for The Wall, Wish You Were Here and Dark Side Of The Moon albums; all three beautifully cosntructed albums which mean a lot to me, however the earlier stuff is awesome. The first album, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, is much different but great nonetheless. Listen to Bike.

    The Beatles - Yes. No need to post a link here. It depends with them, I enjoy their trippy hippy stuff. But not like , ultimate favourite band or anything.

    A Perfect Circle - Do'nt mind these guys. I think at first I expected them to be way heavier, and then was disappointed, but I quiet enjoy their stuff. I think I own Thirteenth Step, somewhere on my computer.

    Pink Floyd - As if you didn't mention Ummagumma. Lol that album, along with The Final Cut, are two of my favourites. They lived in my car for quite some time. I also really enjoyed Dark Side of the Moon. My major work for art in HSC was based on Pink Floyd.

    Porcupine Tree - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=aHFnh2EcdGA - This song, Lazarus, is quite beautiful and really fits well into the album Deadwing. It's a concept album, very trippy and I quite like them. Very proggy

    Dream Theater - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=kKAkreYSns4 - This song, Metropolis Pt 1: Miracle and The Sleeper; is my favourite song of all time by Dream Theater. The album Images and Words is GOLD PURE GOLD, I demand everyone like Dream Theater.

    Millencolin - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=5_Ta0oXRtxo - No Cigar, probably most famous song by them. I don't know. Listening to old cd's with songs by Millencolin on them makes me nostalgic. They are one of the few first punk bands I got into.

    Porcupine Tree - My first thought was "ooh, piano." Not sure about the rest of the song though... it's kinda... boring *hides*. I'm not good with slow songs, generally. Plus, the cheesy sort of... I dunno, Hawaiian-sound-ish things? What's with that?
    Dream Theater - I've heard of these guys, but never heard anything BY them, I don't think. They sound old from the intro, hehe. AHAH YES THERE'S THE OLDNESS. Awesome. I like the guitar on this song, but I can see they go with the old favourite of not having lyrics for like, 2 minutes in. Ooh yes, this is epic. I approve!
    Millencolin - My friend made me find this song for her YEARS ago. Never listened to it until now, though. Are they punk!? I did not know that. Hm, it's not bad. Nothing's grabbing me, though. Sounds like old(ish) punk, really, which I don't like so much.

    Radiohead - Nude
    Crank up the volume, the sound's a bit quiet on this video. It's live from Jonathan Ross = awesome. Thom Yorke's voice gives me goosepimplies. Especially at 2:50-3:07. I just close my eyes and let the gorgeousness wash over me... aah, I love that man.
    This is off their newest album, which was surprisingly awesome. I'd have put up some older stuff, but Ada's got that covered. XD Everyone should watch Karma Police from Glastonbury 2003. Amazing performance.

    FAKE? - PULSE (English Version)
    Aaaand here's someone obscure no-one'll have heard of except Emotional Faun Chiko-sai. FAKE? are a Japanese band, but their lead singer, Ken Lloyd, is half English, and he's perfectly bilingual as you can tell from this song. This was the first FAKE? song I ever heard (only the Japanese version) and I totally fell in love with them. The video is awesome cos it's got sooo many bright colours! Plus, ya know... cross-dressing's always funny.

    Weezer - Say It Ain't So
    This song is actually my favourite song in the whole entire world EVER. I love Weezer. <3 Rivers' voice is just so heartfelt and, well, heartbreaking too, when coupled with the lyrics. Plus, god, they have droolable (and fiendishly hard to play) solos. Mmhmm yes. And playing it loud really gives that chorus a GORGEOUS crunchy feel. They played this when I saw them live... I nearly died of happy.
    Weezer. The original geeky kings of emo. All you new emo can fuck off, lawl.

    Radiohead - No matter what tempo they have, they just have this great groove to them.

    FAKE? - I'll admit I've never heard of them. For being Japanese, his punk-English is pretty good. The keyboard keeps it from getting too dull. It surprisingly doesn't sound like J-anything.

    Weezer - I'll respectfully disagree with you that TMBG is the archetypical geek rock band, but Weezer's still jawsome nonetheless.

    ~~~
    Moxy Früvous - Silly Canadians and their breaking of traditional genres.
    Rockapella - I'd be surprised if you've never heard this one before.
    Let's Go Bowling - Like most of my third posts, these guys are just plain fun.
    As long as I'm singin',
    Then the world's alright,
    Ev'rything's swingin',
    Long as I'm singin' my song...
    Moxy Früvous - Oh goodness. These guys are a crack. I can't stop listening to the song. I sent to my boyfriend. Ahhhh are these guys serious?
    Rockapella - I have heard of Carmen Sandiego but never anything more than the name mentioned once or twice.. so this song was new for me.
    Let's Go Bowling - When isn't ska fun? These guys remind me of Reel Big Fish and stuff. They're quite cool.
    Ok.. now my links..
    Laibach - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3SvjSu4R-8 - These are the guys who Rammstein want to be. This song, Life is Life, just ... well it makes me laugh. It's like, funny and awesome at the same time. Ahhhh I am so weird.
    Korky Butchek - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=TiDX7b...eature=related - As mentioned by Borat when he discusses musical tastes with the gangster kids. Ahhhh this song is a funny one.
    Pnau - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=qyKjaS3mn60 - This is their song, Wild Strawberries. Oh goodness this song is just so catchy. I can't wait go and see them in like, 3 weeks. Yay!
