That was a short chapter. I guess you needed to update. Regardless, it was a short interlude and I fear Reece may be br--(gets malleted)

    Anyways, good chapter.

Of course not. Because that'd suck really, really hard. Unfortunately, even though you didn't think about it, this guy did.

    Chapter 22: Ever Changing Battle

The main lobby was eerily quiet, and completely empty, with the exception of the two people entering the building. The room was large, with some balcony’s from the first floor overlooking it, a reception desk on the left side of the room, and an elevator on the far end of the room.

Their footsteps echoed as Forte and Rose entered, their eyes looking around for any sign of movement or life.

“They have to know we’re here,” Forte murmured. Rose didn’t say anything as her eyes fell on a security camera on the wall over the entrance, though mentally she agreed.

The two slowly ventured further into the building. They barely went a few steps before a powerful voice rung out.

    “Forte!”

Suddenly a form leapt from one of the first floor balconies, landing a good few feet away from the two teenagers. Forte’s eyes narrowed as the tall man stood to full height.

    “Karmov.”

A pair of steel grey eyes fell on the pair of them as the large Russian turned to face them. This time he had discarded the bulky coat he wore in their previous encounter, exposing his powerful physique to the world. A ghost of a smile appeared on his face.

“I must admit,” he spoke up, “I’m impressed with your courage for coming here on your own.”

    His expression then turned grave.

“I’m afraid however, I cannot simply let you pass.”

Forte said nothing, but his eyes searched the lobby, looking for the telltale signs of soldiers waiting to fire on him on command. This didn’t go unnoticed by the commander.

“No soldiers this time Forte,” Karmov spoke up, “Just you and me.”

The duel disk on his arm opened up, ready to battle.

“I don’t have time for this,” Forte spoke in a serious tone.

“Well, I’m sorry,” Karmov replied in an equally serious tone, “But I’m afraid you have to make time.”

Forte didn’t reply this time, only activating Reece’s duel disk as Rose took a step back, giving them space.

“Let’s get this over with then.”

    Karmov nocced.

    “Very well.”

    “Let’s dual!”

    Forte: 8000
    Karmov: 8000

“I’ll start this off,” Forte declared as he drew. Looking over his hand, he was disappointed to see little he could do.

“I’ll set one monster face down and end my turn.”

A lone face down card appeared before Forte as Karmov drew.

“I will set one monster and one card face down. That will be all,” Karmov announced as two cards appeared.

    Forte quietly drew.

This could come in handy later.

“I’ll set another monster face down and end my turn.”

“And I’ll pass,” Karmov said as he drew.

Forte quietly nodded and drew again.

“I’ll sacrifice my first face down monster, in order to summon Inferno Hammer in attack mode!”

The card burst into flames before the large, hulking form of the Inferno Hammer stepped out onto the field. (2400/0)
“Now! Attack his face down monster!”

With a cry, the fiend lifted his hammer high above his head. At the point, a grey, beastly rodent appeared before being crushed.

“Thank you Forte,” Karmov spoke with a small smile, “When my Giant rat’s destroyed, I can special summon one earth attribute monster from my deck. But first…”

He waved his hand as his face down card began to lift up.

“Activate trap card, Light of Intervention!”

Forte growled and shielded his eyes as a light shone down from above.

“As you may know, now neither of us can set monsters face down, which is just fine with me.

Now, I’ll use my Giant Rat’s effect to special summon Deformer Magnen U!”

Forte watched as a small blue robot appeared on the field, different to the machiners that Karmov wielded in their last duel. (800/800)

“Deformer?” Forte murmured to himself. This was a new one.

“Will that be all Forte?” Karmov asked patiently. Forte nodded.

    “Yeah, go right ahead.”

    Karmov drew.

“First, I’ll equip Mist Body to Magnen U.”

Forte tried not to growl as the robot’s body took on an incorporeal form.

“I’m guessing Magnen U has the same effect as Machiner’s Sniper, right?”

“In a sense. When it’s in defence mode, no other Deformer card can be targeted,” Karmov explained, “When it’s in attack mode, only the monster with the highest attack must attack it.”

“So, it’s effect depends on what position it’s in,” Forte murmured. Karmov nodded.

“As with all Deformers. But anyway, back to the duel. I’ll now summon Deformer Mobaphon in attack mode!”

A small, cute yellow robot appeared next to Magnen U. For some crazy reason, the robot reminded him of a mobile phone. (100/100)

“Now, I’ll use Mobaphon’s effect. First, I roll a die, then I pick up the number of cards that I roll.”

A steel die appeared and bounced along the ground before landing on a three. Karmov plucked three cards from his deck and took a look.

“Now, normally if there was a Deformer amongst these cards, I could special summon it. However, since there isn’t I have to put them back at the top of my deck,” Karmov spoke as he replaced the cards.

“Now, I’ll switch Magnen U into defence mode and end my turn.”

Karmov’s deformer began to change shape. It’s body morphed into two identical blue magnets which began to pull apart. Forming a barrier or magnetic energy in front of Karmov and his other monster.

So, That’s why they’re called Deformers.

Forte drew. He was about to flip up his face down monster when he stopped.

At the moment there doesn’t seem to be much to his strategy. Let’s wait and see what he does.

“I’ll summon Malice Doll of Demise!”

Forte’s deranged doll appeared, glaring menacingly at the robots before him and giving a deranged chuckle. (1600/1700)

“I’ll set two face downs and it’s back to you.”

Karmov drew, eyeing the face down cards before glancing at the card in his hand.

    Ah, here we are.

    “I’ll now play…”

“Not so fast,” Forte interrupted, “I activate my trap card. Domain of the Dark Ruler.”

Karmov stopped short as Forte grinned.

“Now, as long as this card is on the field, neither of us can play any magic or trap cards.”

Karmov glared at Forte before returning the card to his hand.

Very clever Forte. However, I have what I need to ensure at least THIS strategy works.

“I’ll activate Mobaphon’s effect again!” The steel die reappeared, this time landing on a five. Pulling out five cards, a small smile appeared on Karmov’s face.

“Ah, here we are. I’ll now special summon Deformer Clocken in defence mode!”

As he replaced the other four cards, what appeared to be a large, digital, alarm clock of sorts appeared on the field. (600/1100)

    “A clock?” Forte murmured.

“Now, while in defence mode, Clocken allows me to place on deformer-counter on it each turn.”

As if on cue, the clock beeped, displaying a one.

    “Now, I’ll end my turn.”

Deformer counters? Just what else are these things capable of?

“I’ll pass,” Forte spoke as he drew.

    Karmov quietly drew.

“First, I’ll place another deformer counter on Clocken.”

The deformer beeped and a two appeared on its face.

“Now, I’ll use Mobaphon’s effect once again.” This time, Karmov had rolled a two.

“Now I’ll special summon Deformer Chakkan in defence mode!”

In a small burst of flame, a large, orange cigarette lighter appeared. (1200/600)

“Now, as long as Chakkan is in defence mode, I can deal three hundred damage to your life points each turn. Now go!”

Forte braced himself as the machine launched a jet of flame at him, scorching him.

    Forte: 7700
    Karmov: 8000

Then he felt it, a sharp pain in his chest.

Whatever it was, it knocked the air from his lungs momentarily. His quickly looked down at his chest. No wounds or even bruising in sight.

Out of the corner of his eye, he thought he saw a figure on one of the upper balconies before disappearing. Forte looked around to see who it was, but no luck.

“What’s wrong?” Karmov asked, looking around. Rose glanced around as well.

“It’s…it’s nothing,” Forte replied as the pain in his chest finally subsided. While it was clear Karmov and Rose didn’t exactly believe him, they figured they should get back to the matter at hand.

What was that? Who else is here?

“I’ll end my turn there Forte.”

Forte drew, looking over his hand.

“Karmov, let me ask you something.”

“What is it?” Karmov asked, curious.

Forte lowered his duel disk, looking into Karmov’s grey eyes.

“Why is it that you’re working for Dogma? You don’t seem like the kind of guy to unleash hell on earth for no real reason. So, why are you doing it?”

A small smile appeared on Karmov’s face as he gave a chuckle.

“I had a feeling someone would ask me that. Do you really want to know?

It’s to give humanity a common enemy.”

Forte rose an eyebrow in confusion.

“A common enemy?” Rose asked. Karmov nodded.

“In this day and age, many people have gone on about world peace, about uniting the world.

Well, the sad truth is, the world can only unite in conflict, when faced against an evil that threatens them all. World War II was a good example of this.”

“You mean against the Nazi Party?” Rose enquired. Karmov smiled and nodded.

“Yes. Capitalist and Socialist alike put their differences aside to fight them. Sadly, when the Nazi Party ceased to exist, it wasn’t long before these allies turned on eachother.”

Rose nodded in understanding. The Cold War.

“So, you believe the Shadow Realm will provide a permanent threat to keep humanity united,” Forte summarised.

    “Exactly,” Karmov nodded.

“Well, I’m afraid I’m going to have to put your unification plans on hold, but I have to win this!

“I’ll flip up my facedown monster, Night Assailant!”

The hooded, wraith-like figure of Forte’s assailant appeared, its daggers ready for blood. (200/500)

“Now, I’m sure you know what his effect is don’t you? Say goodbye to Magnen U!”

Karmov gasped as the assailant’s daggers were plunged into the Deformer, exploding shortly after.

“Now, since your defence is gone, Inferno Hammer, attack Mobaphon!”

The small robot squeaked before being crushed by the fiend’s large hammer.

    Forte: 7700
    Karmov: 5700

“Now, thanks to your Light of Intervention, I can’t use Inferno Hammer’s effect, so Doll of Demise, get rid of Chakkan!”

With a laugh of manic glee, the doll began to hack into the robot with his axe until it was nothing more than a scrap of metal and lighter fluid.

“And that ends it for me,” Forte couldn’t help but smirk as Karmov drew.

“Very clever Forte,” he congratulated, “But I’m afraid you forgot one small thing. First I’ll play Pot of Greed.”

The green jar appeared and Karmov drew two cards.

Suddenly, Clocken beeped and this time a three appeared.

“Now, I’ll sacrifice my Clocken, and deal a thousand damage times the number of deformer counters on him!”

    “Wait, what!?”

Before Forte could shield himself, Karmov’s clock exploded, showering Forte with shrapnel. Forte barely kept himself on his feet.

    Forte: 4700
    Karmov: 5700

“Are you ok Forte?” Rose asked, concerned.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” Forte groaned, “Though I’ll make it a point in the future to attack any monster with a clock on it in the future.”

Karmoc chuckled, “I’m afraid things are going to get harder Forte. I summon Deformer Hedging!”

A robot in the guise of what appeared to be large garden sheers appeared on the field. (100/300)

“Now, while in attack mode, Hedging could destroy one continuous magic card per turn, but while in defence mode, he can destroy one permanent trap card.

Now go, destroy Forte’s Domain of the Dark Ruler!”

Without another word, the living shears shot forward, cutting Forte’s trap card in half.

“And now, with your card gone, I can play this!”

A spell card, depicting a giant form of sorts rising up from the earth, appeared before Karmov.

“The ritual card, Rise of the Ancient Titan!”

Forte took a step back. What sort of ritual monster could be in a deck like this?

“Now, I’ll sacrifice two monsters from my hand, in order to summon the most powerful card in this deck!”

The ground began to shake. Forte’s eyes widened as he saw something moving beneath the earth, coming up from the earth.

    “Behold, the avatar of earth!”

The beast was massive, a gigantic humanoid made out of various metals. Beneath the gaps in this iron armour, Forte could see a dim blue energy, and a set of electric blue eyes staring at him. Much to Forte’s surprise, there seemed to be an actual city resting on its back.

    Iron Titan Autochthon!” (2000/2000)

Only two thousand attack and defence? Forte could easy guess there was more to this ancient beast than just its massive size.

“Now, I will start by activating Autochthon’s effect! By sacrificing one earth machine monster I control, I can add one city-counter to him!”

Hedging vanished and the city on the titan’s back began to expand, reaching up to his left shoulder.

“Now, for each city-counter on him, his attack and defence increase by five hundred points.”

A deep growl emerged from the titan’s throat as his attack and defence rose to twenty-five hundred.

“Now, Autochthon, destroy Forte’s Night Assailant.”

The gigantic titan rose an enormous fist into the air before bringing it down upon the fiend. Forte and Rose shielded themselves from the dust and dirt that flew all over the place. When the dust cleared, there was a crater in the earth where the titan had struck.

    Forte: 2400
    Karmov: 5700

“I’ll now set one card face down and end my turn.”

Forte eyed the goliath in front of him as he drew. He would have to destroy that thing quickly before it became too powerful.

And luckily, he drew just the card to do it.

“I’ll sacrifice my Doll of Demise and Inferno Hammer, in order to summon the Invader of Darkness!”

The two fiends dissolved into what could be described as a black portal. Out of the blackness stepped the clocked, golden fiend, his burning eyes staring at the titan before him. (2900/2500)

    “Now!” Forte yelled, “Destroy Autochthon!”

A swirling mass of gold energy formed in the fiend’s palm before firing a blast at Autochthon.

“I activate the trap card, Shadow Spell!” Karmov yelled, and Forte gasped as the chains of darkness shot towards the invader, slicing through his attack before binding him and weakening him.

Karmov laughed, “I had learnt something from a previous duel, mainly how useful this card is. I should thank you for showing me that.”

    Forte growled.

“Fine, I’ll end my turn then.”

    Karmov drew.

“Now, I’ll summon my second Mobaphon in attack mode!”

Forte’s eyes narrowed as the small, yellow robot appeared once again. (100/100)

“And now, I’ll use its effect.” This time, the die landed on four. He plucked four cards and took a look.

“Ah, good. I’ll now special summon Deformer Radiocassen in attack mode!”

This deformer was much large than the others, it’s red form dwarfing its small counterpart easily. (1200/400)

“Now, I’ll sacrifice Radiocassen in order to add another city-counter to Autochthon!”

The city on the titan’s back expanded even more, reaching up to his left shoulder. his attack rose to three thousand.

“Now, attack! Destroy the Invader of Darkness!”

Forte and Rose shielded themselves as the fiend was pitifully crushed under the titan’s gigantic fist. As the dust cleared however, Karmov couldn’t help but notice a small grin on Forte’s face.

“And what are you so cheerful about?”

“Well, since you decided to bring back memories of our last duel,” Forte explained, “I guess I’d better show you another familiar trick. Activate trap card, Rope of Life!”

Karmov’s eyes widened as a familiar chain fell from the heavens into the abyss below. Before long, the Invader of Darkness he had just destroyed was lifted back onto the field, apparently a bit pissed about being destroyed. (2900/2500) – (3700/2500)

Karmov growled. He did not like where this duel was going.

“I’ll end my turn,” he said quietly.

Forte drew, glancing at the cards in his hand.

“First, I’ll set three cards face down.”

Three face down cards appeared at Forte’s feet.

“And now, I’ll sacrifice my Invader of Darkness!”

“You’re sacrificing it!?” Karmov shouted in surprise.

“That’s right, for something much, much worse!”

The invader began to dissolve into a dark mist. Rose’s eyes widened. She knew what this meant.

She shuddered as a dark form appeared above Forte, matching the height of Autochthon.

    “Behold, Great Maju Garzett!”

The gigantic fiend bellowed at the iron titan in a display of strength. (5800/5000)

Karmov stepped back, his eyes wide at the monstrosity before him.

    “Now, Maju Garzett, destroy Autochthon!”

The fiend reared back before dealing a crunching blow to the titan’s head. The avatar let out a roar as it fell to the ground, causing the ground to shake. Karmov cried out as the force threw him off of his feet.

    Forte: 1600
    Karmov: 2400

Forte however, was surprised to see that Autochthon was still on the field.

    “It survived?” he whispered softly.

Karmov groaned as he tried to push himself off of the ground.

“Yes,” he groaned, “When attacked, I can remove one city-counter from Autochthon in order for it to survive.”

Forte was quiet for a moment before his expression became grave.

“Are you sure it even wanted to survive?”

Karmov looked up at his opponent confused. Forte continued.

“As you know, the avatars aren’t normal cards. Their alive, they feel pain. We both know that Autochthon wont be able to beat Garzett, why put it through more pain and delay his destruction?”

Karmov’s eyes widened as he looked over at the avatar. To his surprise, Autochthon was looking right back at him, his blue eyes staring into Karmov’s grey.

    “Why don’t you just surrender?”

Karmov looked down at the floor, his mind racing.

Is he right? Should I just give up? Should I just end it rather than put him through more pain?

    No…

Karmov’s fists clenched as he said nothing. He looked up at the fiend looking down on him and Autochthon, almost smirking with contempt if it was capable of it.

Karmov felt something boiling within him, something he hadn’t felt in years.

    Anger.

He looked over at the avatar of earth. He knew what he was thinking.

    “Karmov?”

    Karmov looked over at Forte.

    “Are you going to surrender?”

    Karmov’s expression almost darkened.

    “No…”

    “What?”

Karmov looked up at Garzett, almost challenging.

“We can destroy you, and we’ll do it right now!”

Karmov drew, but didn’t even bother looking at the card.

“I’ll sacrifice Mobaphon in order to add another city-counter to Autochthon!”

Karmov could swear the Garzett was snorting in amusement at the act as Autochthon’s attack rose to three thousand.

“Now, I’ll play the magic card, Hundred Night’s work!”

A spell card, depicting Jinzo with the silhouette of two deformers in the background appear.

“I remove every deformer from my graveyard, and one machine I control gains two hundred points for each!”

Autochthon’s growl rose into a bellow as its body began to grow, his attack rising up to four thousand four hundred.

Garzett had stoped snickering. This wasn’t funny anymore.

“And now, to finish up, I play Limiter Removal!” Karmov shouted.

Forte gasped in shock. He knew what it would mean.

The iron titan began to tremble, and to everyone’s surprise, the bits of iron the encompassed its physical form began to fall off. The city on its back began to crumble to the ground as it seemingly fell apart.

Then, with a mighty, earth shattering roar, the remaining steel shatter, revealing Autochthon’s true self. A glowing giant of energy and rage. (8800/6000)

Forte stepped back, eyes wide. He had never faced a monster of that strength before, and apparently neither had Garzett, as the fiend was experiencing an emotion it hadn’t felt in years.

    Fear.

    --------------~*~--------------

Gabriel gasped at the sight before him. He had been watching their duel the whole time, but he never expected this from Karmov.

    He never expected this period.

“Such power…” he muttered as he watched, entranced.

    --------------~*~--------------

“DESTROY HIM!” Karmov roared, as if he felt the same rage his titan was.

Everything seemed to go slow as the titan reached for Forte’s fiend. Garzett reached out and caught his arms, trying to hold him back, keep this beast away until Limiter Removal took its toll and destroyed him. However, it was all in vein. This fiend had dared strike him, and Autochthon was going to make him pay.

Ripping from Garzett’s grasp, Autochthon’s hands wrapped around his throat as the two giant began to plummet to the earth.

Before they landed on him, Forte’s hand shot up to his disk.

    --------------~*~--------------

Rose wasn’t sure whether there was an explosion and was just too loud for her to hear, or if there wasn’t one at all. All she knew was that the room, her vision, was engulfed in light.

When the light finally dimmed, the room was dominated by dust and smoke. She couldn’t see a thing.

“Forte!?” she cried out, becoming frightened when she didn’t hear a response. Could Forte have survived such an attack like that.

When the smoke began to clear, she was relieved to find Forte barely standing, but still conscious. He was done on one knee, breathing heavily.

But as the smoke cleared, both she and Karmov could see a magic card in front of him, one that shocked them both.

    Emergency Provisions.

    Forte: 600
    Karmov: 2400

Karmov was shocked. Forte had survived, and now Karmov was left with nothing. He had seen the cards he would draw, and nothing he could summon to protect himself with. All Forte had to do was summon something and it would be over soon.

Oddly enough, Karmov didn’t feel frightened or anything, but something else entirely.

Satisfaction. He and Autochthon had crushed Garzett, and that seemed to be enough.

“Forte!” he called out. Forte looked up at and surprised to see Karmov’s hand over his deck.

    “Now I surrender.”

To say that Forte and Rose were surprised was an understatement.

“Why…” was all Forte could say.

Karmov smiled as he began to walk over to him.

“Even when hit with such power, you managed to survive. Even with all you’ve faced, you still keep coming, pushing it aside.

There’s no stopping a man like that. I realise that now.”

Karmov held something out to him.

    “Here.”

Forte looked at the cards being offered.

Rise of the Ancient Titan and the Iron Titan Autochthon.

“I have no interest in them,” Forte spoke up, looking up at Karmov. He simply smiled and pushed the cards into the teen’s hand.

“Take them. You’ve earned them more than I.”

Karmov then walked past him, heading for the exit.

“Where’re you gonna go?” Forte asked.

    Karmov stopped and chuckled.

“I figured I’d go back home, give myself some time to think. Who knows, maybe humanity doesn’t need conflict in order to unify.”

Forte looked back at the Russian.

“Then again, maybe it does,” Forte murmured. Karmov looked back at him and chuckled.

“Maybe. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Forte looked ahead and began to walk towards the Elevator.

    “Forte.”

    Forte stopped.

“May I ask you something?” Karmov asked.

    “Go ahead.”

    “Why are you here?”

Forte said nothing, so Karmov continued.

“You do not seem interested in the avatars, and it’s clear you don’t care what happens to the world. So why are you here? Is it to save your friend?”

    Karmov smiled.

“Or is it something else entirely.”

Forte was quiet for a moment before saying:

    “My reasons are my own.”

    Karmov chuckled softly.

“Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see huh? Very well.”

Karmov began to walk to the entrance.

“Good luck Forte, and woe betide those who get in your way,” he called out before leaving the building.

Forte remained silent for a moment before looking back at Rose.

    “Let’s go.”

Rose said nothing but nodded as the two walked into the elevator. She pressed the button for the top floor. Something told them both what they were seeking was up there.

As the elevator ascended, a figure watched them from one of the balconies.

    “Forte…” Nero murmured before sighing.

I don’t let much scare me. However, after the incident, I guess I’ve always been a little afraid of it happening again.

But now, I guess I’ve got no choice but to face it.

Are you sure you want to do this?

Yes Forte, I do. I have to do this. I have to get over this.

Sit tight for Chapter 23: Facing your Fears.

    Whoa. That was pretty intense.

I guess this makes you the first one to use the Trans, uhm, sorry, Deformers in any fanfic, MC, so kudos for that. The chapter was so good, I hesitate to point out the most obvious mistake (Rope of Life requires you to discard your whole hand), so I'll let it go.

So... One Avatar down, five to go. Seems that Forte is going to have to crash through all his old foes to get to the big guns. Well, it might take a while, but it should make a good read. I'll be here.

You've done a great job with this story. I have 1 small question: What are the levels of your Floral Warrior cards Rose used?

I’m sorry I’ve taken so long with this chapter. But with university over for the year, I shall have more time to dedicate to this again.

Before I begin, you may notice in this chapter, the quality of this duel far exceeds those you’ve seen before. Well, I can’t take the credit for it. I had some help. A friend of mine (who, by their request, I shall not disclose their name), helped me write the outline of the duel, and I wrote the rest of the chapter. It’s possible that s/he may be writing the outlines for the duels for the rest of this fic, if s/he wishes to.

As I will not reveal his/her name, I shall simply refer to him/her as ANOMYNOUS.

    Now, onto the chapter.

    Chapter 23: Facing Your Fears

Gabriel sighed as he leaned over his desk. Karmov had been defeated and now had left his organization. Oddly enough, this didn’t seem to bother him. Karmov had already contributed much to the organization already.

Besides, he had a feeling this would all be coming to an end soon anyway.

At that point, the door opened and Eurydice entered. A look of worry on her normally blank face.

“Sir. We have a problem.” She spoke up, her voice as flat as usual. Gabriel sighed in frustration.

“What is it?” Forte was in the building. He didn’t have time for this. Especially problems that got Eurydice worried.

But this one would end up frightening him.

    “It’s Walter. He escaped!”

    --------------~*~--------------

All was silent in the elevator. Forte and Rose against the walls opposite each other. Rose’s eyes rested on the floor as she thought, occasionally looking up at the lavender haired man before her.

Something about what Karmov said bothered her. What was Forte’s true motives for being here? Well, it should be obvious. Rescuing Reece and defeating Dogma. But, for some reason she wasn’t so sure. Karmov had said that Forte didn’t care much for the world. Well, she couldn’t blame Forte for that. Having been raised in that awful orphanage for most of his life, that would probably happen. But that would still leave saving Reece as their main goal. But what else did Forte have planned?

She couldn’t help but notice the change that came over him as well since he escaped the Shadow Realm. He was no longer the confident, sadistic, arrogant individual she had come to known. He now seemed cold, serious. During his duel with Karmov, he didn’t make a single wisecrack, and had even at one point tried to convince him to surrender. The normal Forte would have taken a bit of pleasure in making his opponent squirm.

This change in him unnerved her, and the silence they were sharing in the elevator was becoming almost unbearable.

“Forte…” she spoke up, causing the man in question to look up at her in response.

But before she could say more, it was like something hit the elevator, as it suddenly stopped dead, causing her to loose her balance and Forte to grab the side to keep himself from falling over. The lights flickered on and off.

“What was that!?” Forte muttered before the elevator jerked violently again.

“We have to get off this thing!” Rose spoke up, getting a sinking feeling where all this was going. Forte moved to try and pull the doors opened before noticing the maintenance hatch.

    “Up there!”

Forte was able to reach up and push the hatch opened, pulling himself through it before reaching down and helping Rose up. Rose looked around and spotted a ladder, most likely used for maintenance as well.

“Over there! Come on!” Rose spoke up, running to the ladder. She started to climb up Forte followed and gripped the ladder.

Just as the elevator gave way from under his feet.

Forte managed to hang onto the ladder as the elevator plummeted down the shaft, falling into the darkness before hitting the ground with a loud crash. With a sigh of relief, Forte managed to regain his footing.

“Are you alright?” Rose asked, concerned. She was afraid for a moment when the elevator fell.

    “I’m fine,” he replied reassuringly.

At the point, Rose heard a whipping sound coming from above, coming closer.

And then a scream tore through her throat as a burst of pain ripped across her back. The sudden shock caused her to let go.

“Rose!” Forte cried out, catching her hand, narrowly avoiding the elevator cable as it whipped against the walls as it fell into darkness.

Rose heaved heavily for a moment before shakily reaching out to grab the ladder again.

“Are you alright?” Forte asked, concern heavy in his eyes.

“I…I’m fine,” Rose lied. The pain was great, her mind still trying to figure out what happened. But she couldn’t hamper Forte because of it. “Let’s go.”

Forte was unsure for a moment before nodding. Continuing up was the only thing they could do at the moment.

After ten minutes of climbing, the pair finally made it to the doors to the next floor. It was a bit difficult, but eventually Forte managed to open the door, while managing to stay on the ladder at the same time. Pulling himself through the doors, he turned to help Rose up.

And gasped in shock at what he saw.

A massive gash was torn into Rose’s back, tearing her clothes with ease. While it didn’t appear to be bleeding now, is still looked pretty back, the back of her clothes stain with her blood.

“Rose…” was all he could say, eyes wide. Rose looked up at him with pained eyes before standing up.

    “I’m fine, really.” She groaned.

Before Forte could reply with something along the lines of “you’re not fine!”, a twisted laugh echoed throughout the room.

“Well, isn’t this just wonderful,” A demented voice chuckled, “I had been hoping to get rid of you, but causing some pain to that little harlot of a girlfriend of yours is even better!”

A twisted snarl formed on Forte’s lips as his eyes turned towards the one who did all this.

Standing at the opposite end of the room, with a manic expression on his face, was none other than Walter. Only now, he was looking a lot worse off since the last time they met. He now wore white pants, no shoes, and the remains of a straight jacket which he clearly tore his way out of. His hair was a mess and his yellow eyes glimmered with madness. On his right arm was a duel disk, and in his left hand was a set of bolt cutters.

“You…” Forte growled as he stood up, fists clenched tightly. He wanted to beat the lunatic to death with those bolt cutters of his.

Unfortunately, it seemed Walter had a similar idea if Forte got close to him.

“You know, you surviving isn’t such a bad thing,” Walter’s grin widened, “Now I can pay you back for the way you humiliated me days ago.” His face turned into a snarl at the reminder of that day before returning to its default manic expression.

Forte’s eyes fell to his duel disk briefly before reaching for his own.

“So it’s a duel you want?” he snarled. Not a problem. He could feel the shadows stirring within himself. What a perfect opportunity to test out his new abilities.

    “Wait.”

Forte turned to see Rose walked past him and activate her duel disk.

    “I’ll face him.”

“Rose…” This got a delighted laugh out of the deranged madman.

“The little girl wants to play? Sure. After I’m done tearing you apart, I’ll do the same to your little boyfriend!” He laughed as he activated his duel disk.

“Rose, you don’t have to do this,” said Forte, watching as his friend prepared herself.

“I do,” she replied, “I want to help you Forte. I don’t want to seem like some helpless little girl who can’t defend herself.”

Forte knew what she meant. Walter had reduced her to a sobbing wreck after all the torture he put her through. Sure, she can handle her own in a duel, but Walter represented something that she couldn’t simply get over.

She needed to defeat him in order to move on, in order to be strong again.

“Very well…” Forte replied, stepping back in order to give them some space.

“Now then,” Walter grinned, “Shall we begin the torture?” Rose’s eyes narrowed.

    “Let’s just duel!”

    Rose: 8000
    Walter: 8000

“I’ll begin,” Walter grinned as he drew. He looked over his cards briefly before plucking one from his hand.

“I’ll start by playing Hand Destruction!” Walter announced, “Now we each get rid of two cards and then draw two.”

Rose quickly looked over her hand.

Well, there isn’t much harm in getting rid of these two.

She pulled the two Phantom Grasses from her hand and discarded them before drawing two cards. Walter had already made his discard and draws.

“Now then,” Walter grinned, “I’ll special summon Dark Grepher in attack mode!”

Forte couldn’t help but snarl as the warrior’s dark counterpart appeared on the field. Drawing its sword, the monster took one look at him before grinning evilly and looking back at Rose (1700/1600)

“Now, in order to special summon it, I have to discard a dark monster first,” Walter explained, discarding a hand to the grave, “And I’ll use his effect to do the same. By discarding one dark monsters from my hand, I can send another from my deck to the grave as well!”

Grepher began to glow as Walter sent a card from his hand to the grave, before searching through his deck and discarding another.

“Be careful Rose!” Forte called out from the side, “I’ve seen someone using this trick before!”

    Walter only chuckled madly.

“Oh have you? Well, maybe this will surprise you then. I play Card of Safe Return!” Walter grinned dementedly as the card appeared before him.

“Now I’ll play Book of Life! Letting me bring back one zombie monster from my grave, and at the same to remove one of yours from play!”

Forte growled as images of Rose’s graveyard appeared in front of her. He always had a low opinion of that card.

“I still can’t believe that broken thing is legal,” Forte muttered. Walter only chuckled.

“Broken for you, but perfect for me! Anyway, I think I’ll get rid of that Phantom Grass of yours.”

Rose’s eyes narrowed as the image of the card disintegrated into light as the others simply vanished.

“Now, I’ll special summon Il Blud to the field!”

Rose took a step back as the ugly zombie appeared on the field, grinning wildly. (2100/800)

“And, due to Card of Safe returns effect, I get to draw a card,” Walter smirked confidently as he drew, “Now, I’m sure you know what Il Blud’s effect is right?”

“It’s a Gemini monster,” Rose replied, trying to remain calm, “You need to normal summon it in order to use its effect.”

“That’s right,” Walter grinned, “Good thing I can still normal summon then. I’ll normal summon Il Blud in order to use its effect.”

The zombie chuckled repulsively as it began to glow.

“I’ll now special summon Lich Lord, King of the Underworld!”

A skeletal being, dressed in red, royal garbs appeared on the field between Grepher and Il Blud. The skeleton’s cold, undead eyes almost bore into Rose (2400/1200)

“And due to Card of Safe Return, I draw again!” Walter grinned gleefully as he drew.

“Now, I’ll set one card face down, and then I’ll activate Ectoplasmer!”

Rose took a step back as the card appeared.

“I’ll now end my turn, and I think I’ll sacrifice my Lich Lord to Ectoplasmer!”

The zombie groaned as its soul was forcibly ripped from its body and fired directly at Rose. She braced herself and let out a moan of pain as the ectoplasm slammed into her with great force.

“And now, because I tributed Lich Lord for a card effect, he goes back to my hand.” Walter grinned as he placed the card in his hand, “Your turn.”

    Rose: 6800
    Walter: 8000

Rose glared at Walter as she drew. Her back was still aching like hell, and this man wasn’t helped.

“I’ll play the Quickplay spell Grow and Wilt!”

A spell card, depicting a rose growing strong and then wilting into nothing appeared in front of her.

“This card allows me to special summon one plant monster that’s level four or lower. The downside is that I cannot tribute it, and it’s destroyed at the end of the turn. So, now I’ll special summon Floral Knight Tulip!”

In a flurry of pink petals, the petite knight in pink armour appeared before Rose. She drew her short sword, pointing it at Walter threateningly. (1600/1800)

“Now, I can still use her effect, in order to special summon a seed token to the field.”

Tulip reached into her bag and rummaged around before pulling out a seed and dropping it on the ground next to her. (0/0)

“Now, I can’t sacrifice my Tulip, but I can tribute my seed token. I sacrifice it in order to summon Floral Knight Petunia!”

The seed cracked open, letting loose a flurry of purple petals. When the petal storm died down, there stood the purple Floral Knight, her sword ready for battle (2300/1200)

“Now, Floral Knight Petunia, destroy Dark Grepher!”

With a loud cry, the knight charged towards the dark warrior, sword held up high. Strangely enough, neither Grepher nor Walter were worried.

“I’ll activate my trap card!” Walter laughed, “Spirit Shield! By removing one zombie from my graveyard from play, I can negate your attack!”

He pulled Regenerating Mummy from his graveyard, and a ghostly visage of the zombie appeared between Petunia and Grepher, absorbing the knight’s attack. Both Rose and the knight growled in annoyance as Petunia went back to her side of the field.

“I’ll set one card face down, and before I end my turn, I sacrifice Tulip to Ectoplasmer’s effect.”

The pink knight groaned, trying to remain strong as her soul was pulled out and fired at Walter. The blonde growled lightly in irritation as the blast hit him.

    Rose: 6800
    Walter: 7200

Walter’s eye twitched lightly as he drew. A small malicious smirk graced his face.

“I’ll play the spell card Everliving Underworld Cannon!”

Rose took a step back as a ghastly cannon made from bone arose from the earth, pointing directly at her.

“Now, this little cannon has a nasty little effect. One per turn, whenever I special summon a monster, I can deal eight hundred points of damage to you!”

Rose paled slightly. Walter’s strategy seemed to be around special summoning monsters.

“Now, I’ll use Dark Grepher’s effect again, to send my Lich Lord, as well as another dark monster, to the grave!”

Rose began to brace herself. She knew what was going to happen. Walter discarded his cards and grinned.

“Now, I’ll use Il Blud’s effect to bring my Lich Lord back!”

The ghastly skeleton appeared once against between Grepher and Blud, groaning softly. (2400/1200)

“And now!” The underworld cannon began to charge up, a ghostly skull appearing at the end of the barrel, “Everliving Underworld Cannon, FIRE!”

Rose tried to shield herself, but cried out in pain as the cannon’s blast struck her.

    Rose: 6000
    Walter: 7200

Walter laughed maniacally at the pain he was causing the young woman.

“Remember this Rose? Just like before, only now you’re not blind folded, and you’re not getting out of this in one piece!”

“Ignore him Rose!” Forte called out, “I beat him before, and I sure as hell know you can beat him!”

“You shut up!” Walter snarled before turning back to Rose, “I’m not finished yet. I get to draw a card thanks to Card of Safe Return.”

Walter drew a card before grinning maliciously at Floral Knight Petunia.

“Lich Lord! Attack her little flower knight! Pestilence of the Underworld!”

The lich groaned and extended its arms, a dark, pungent mist began to arise from them and shoot towards Rose’s floral knight.

“Activate trap card!” Rose cried out, “Wall of Spores!”

A wall of spores formed between Petunia and the Lich Lord, the zombie’s attack slamming against it harmlessly. The spores then reached out surrounding the lich.

“When you try to attack my plants, my Wall of Spores stops your attack and drains five hundred attack from the attacker!”

Walter growled as the lich’s attack dropped to nineteen hundred.

“Fine, I’ll end my turn, and I’ll sacrifice my Lich Lord to Ectoplasmer!”

Rose braced herself, whimpering in pain as the zombie’s soul slammed hard against her stomach.

    Rose: 4800
    Walter: 7800

Rose shakily drew as Walter returned his Lich Lord to his hand.

    “I’ll play Pot of Greed!”

The green, grinning pot appeared before her. Two cards floated up from out of it and into Rose’s hand. She looked through her cards for a moment.

“I’ll now summon Floral Knight Lily in attack mode!”

The green armoured archer appeared beside Petunia, her bow ready. She gave Rose a reassuring smile before glaring at Walter (1800/1700)

    “Now, Lily, attack Dark Grepher!”

“I’ll activate Spirit Shield’s effect again!”

The Floral Knight fired an arrow, only to strike a ghostly form resembling a Goblin Zombie.

“Fine then, Petunia, attack Il Blud!”

The knight charged and swung, striking another spectral form that appeared before her, this time resembling Ryu Kokki.

Walter laughed. “That’s right! Fight back! Torture isn’t much fun when the victim just sits back and takes it!”

Rose snarled angrily, “You can’t hide behind that spirit shield forever! You’ll run out of zombies eventually!”

Walter’s expression turned into a sneer. “True, but not before you run out of lifepoints. Now finish you turn!”

“I will. And I’ll sacrifice Lily to Ectoplasmer!”

Rose could barely watch as the knight’s soul was pulled out of her and thrown at the psychopath.

    Rose: 4800
    Walter: 6300

    “My turn!” Walter announced, drawing.

“I’ll activate Dark Grepher’s effect again, sending my Lich Lord and another dark monster to the grave!”

Walter pulled out the two cards and sent them to the grave.

“Now, I’ll summon Soul Absorbing Bone Tower in attack mode!”

The ground shook as a massive tower of bone rose up from the earth, reaching high into the air, its top obscured by dark clouds. (400/1500

“Now, I’ll use Il Blud’s effect to bring back my Lich Lord!”

Rose glared at the repulsive Lich as it once again appeared on the field. She was becoming sick of the sight of that zombie. (2400/1200)

“Now, you know how this goes, so I wont bother explaining it.”

Rose shielded herself and cried out as the underworld cannon fired another ghostly blast at her, causing her to stagger back. Walter smirked as he drew another card.

    Rose: 4000
    Walter: 6300

“And that’s not all. Now that my Soul Absorbing Bone Tower is on the field whenever I special summon a zombie, you lose the top two cards of your deck!”

Rose gasped as the two top cards in her deck slide out and fell into the graveyard.

“Now, I’ll activate Burial From a Different Dimension, which allows me to take up to three cards I’ve removed from play and put them in my graveyard. I think I’ll return all those monsters I removed to use Spirit Shield!”

The spectral figures of Regenerating Mummy, Goblin Zombie, and Ryu Kokki appeared, grinning mockingly at Rose before being pulled into the graveyard.

“Now, since attacking you is pointless with that Wall of Spores on the field, I’ll simply end my turn, and sacrifice my Lich Lord to Ectoplasmer again!”

Walter’s laughter mixed with Rose’s cries of pain as the zombie’s soul slammed into her again, forcing her to her knees.

    Rose: 2800
    Alter: 6300

Walter was having the time of his life with this.

“I’m taking your lifepoints, and I’m taking your cards! We may as well stick you up on a meat hook because I’m going to bleed you dry!”

Forte snarled angrily. He was tempted to go over there and throttle him. He trembled with rage as a dark aura surrounded his hand.

    “Don’t…”

The aura faded as Forte watched Rose stand up.

“I…I can deal with him…” Rose murmered, her eyes briefly meeting Forte’s.

    “Rose…”

Walter laughed, “Deal with me? And how are you going to do that? I’ve been making you my little bitch all throughout this duel!”

Rose snarled. “Like this!” she said as she drew, “And I’ll start by playing my spell card, Compost Recycling!”

Walter cocked an eyebrow as a spell card depicting a Regenerating Rose growing out of a pile of compost appeared.

“Now, first, I can choose any number of plant monsters in my graveyard, and special summon them on your side of the field. So I’ll special summon Grass Phantom and Floral Knight Lily in defence mode!”

Forte and Walter were a little surprised when Rose’s two monsters appeared. The Floral Knight looked over at Rose sadly. (1000/1000), (1800/1700).

Walter laughed. “Do you want me to finish you off that badly? Well, too bad, because this little torture session’s only just begun!”

“Who said I want it to end?” Rose replied, “I’ll now play Mark of the Rose! And I’ll equip it to your Dark Grepher!”

Walter gasped a purple rose-like tattoo appeared on the warrior’s cheek. Grepher was confused for a moment before a powerful force forced him to walk over to Rose’s side of the field.

“I gave you two monsters, so I figured I’d take at least one. Mark of the Rose lets me take control to any monster it is equipped to, as long as a remove a plant monster from my graveyard first.” Rose smirked at Walter’s snarl as she removed Floral Knight Tulip from play.

“Now, I think I’ll use his effect, to discard some dark monsters of my own!”

Grepher glowed as Rose took a card from her hand and deck and discarded them.

“Now, I’ll tribute your Grepher to summon Rose Tentacles!”

A bunch of vines reached up and grabbed Grepher, pulling him into the earth as a large rose with sinister read eyes and multiple thorny vines appeared on the field. (2200/1200)

“And I’m not done, I’ll now use Compost Recycling’s second ability. By destroying it, and removing any number of plants in my graveyard from play, I can raise the attack of the same number of plant monsters on my field by five hundred points!”

Rose’s spell card shattered and the appearances of Regenerating Rose and Mystic Tomato appeared briefly before vanishing. A bright aura began to surround Petunia and Rose Tentacles as their attacks rose. (2200/1200) – (2700/1200), (2300/1200( - (2800/1200)

“Now, I’ll activate the field spell World Tree!”

The ground began to rumble as a gigantic tree filled the room, reaching up towards the heavens. Forte stepped back as the tree’s roots slithered along the ground, burying themselves into the earth.

    Rose smirked at Walter confidently.

“Now, I’ll activate my trap card, Ivy Shackle, which will turn all your monsters into plants!”

Walter gasped as his zombies began to sprout leaves and flowers from different parts of their bodies.

“Now, Rose Tentacles! Attack Soul Absorbing Bone Tower!”

The Rose’s tentacles lashed out towards the tower.

“I’ll activate Spirit Shield again!” Walter cried out, the spectral form of Regenerating Mummy appearing to block the blast.

“Well then, I guess I’ll have to try again, because you see, Rose Tentacles gains additional attacks equal to the number of plant monsters you control! And thanks to my Ivy Shackles, you have four! Rose Tentacles, attack the bone tower again!”

The rose lashed out, this time striking the spectral form of Goblin Zombie.

    “And again!”

This time, it was Ryu Kokki’s turn to block the rose’s attack.

    “Now, attack Floral Knight Lily!”

Walter didn’t bother activating Spirit Shield this time. The monster was in defence mode anyway. Lily bowed her head as the vines tore into her.

“I’m sorry Lily,” Rose murmered, “But when Rose Tentacles destroys a plant monster, the controller of it take three hundred points of damage!”

“What!?” Walter shieled himself as three thorns buried themselves into his arms.

    Rose: 2800
    Walter: 6000

“Also, whenever a plant monster is destroyed, a flower blossoms on the World Tree.”

Forte watched from the sidelines as a beautiful flower bloomed on the trunk of the World Tree.

“Now, Rose Tentacles, destroy Phantom Grass!”

The grass monster gave off one last groan before being shredded by the rose’s tentacles. Three more thorns shot out, burying themselves in Walter’s shoulder, who let out a sharp gasp of pain.

    Rose: 2800
    Walter: 5700

Another flower bloomed on the World Tree.

“Now, Floral Knight Petunia, attack the bone tower!”

For the first time in the duel, Petunia was satisfied to hear the sound of her sword connecting. With a loud groan, the tower began crumbling down, causing the ground to shake on impact. Walter cried out, shielding himself from the falling debris.

    Rose: 2800
    Walter: 3300

A third flower began to bloom on the World Tree.

“Now, before I end my turn, I’ll activate one of my World Tree’s effects. By removing two flowers from it, I can destroy on card on the field, and I think I’ll choose your Ectoplasmer!”

Two of the three flowers degenerated into pollen, which began to swarm around Walter’s spell card. The card shattered into shards before vanishing.

“And that ends my turn,” Rose smirked confidently.

“Good job Rose!” Forte cheered, “I told you, you could him!”

Rose could help but smile at Forte’s words until Walter let out a cry of rage.

“This isn’t over yet!” the Englishman barked as he drew, “It’s only just begun, and it’s my turn!”

He quickly glanced over his card.

“I’ll now activate Il Blud’s effect again!”

Suddenly, the win began to pick up. Forte and Rose both recognised this. They both knew what was coming.

“In order to summon, Gale Phantom Kazard!”

The ghostly visage of Walter’s wraith like avatar appeared on the field, letting of a sound like the hissing of wind. (0/0)

“Now, before I continue, let’s not forget about my Card of Safe Return, or my Everling Underworld Cannon!”

Rose shielded herself and this time managed to take the hit quite well as Walter drew another card.

    Rose: 2000
    Walter: 3300

“Now, you all know what this means, so I wont even bother. Kazard!”

The winds went from strong to violent. Rose had trouble keeping her footing as every card on the field was blown back to their decks. The World Tree was torn from the earth before being thrown into the distance.

Walter quickly shuffled all his cards into his deck, shuffling madly while Rose did the same. He quickly drew five cards.

A demented grin spread across his face.
“First, I’ll activate Card of Safe Return!”

Rose glared at the spell card. How lucky could he get, drawing it again?

“Now then, I’ll activate the effect of my Plaguespreader Zombie, and special summon it from my graveyard! Of course, I have to return a card from my hand to the top of my deck, but that doesn’t matter!”

What could only be described as a zombified hodgepodge of things Forte and Rose couldn’t even figure out. What they knew for sure was that it was ugly, and it smelled bad, and the wind wasn’t helping. (400/200) Walter grinned as Card of Safe Return glowed and he drew a card.

“And now, time to bring out a major instrument in this little torture session!” Walter laughed as both Kazard and the Plaguesbringer began to degenerate into darkness.

“You see, Plaguesbringer Zombie is a tunor monster, and by tributing him and a monster of a certain level (in this case, four), I can special summon a monster known as a Synchro monster!”

“A synchro monster?” Forte asked, slightly dreading what was coming, but also curious.

“That’s right, so now, I’ll tribute my Plaguesbringer Zombie, and Gale Phantom Kazard, in order to synchro summon…”

The darkness began to take form. Rose’s eyes widened in shock at what she saw.

    “Ha Des…?”

Well, it looked like Ha Des, if he was a zombie. His clothes were torn and in tatters, one of his horns was broken, and his beard was now wild and grey. Walter laughed.

“This is the new and improved Ha Des!

This, is Revived King Ha Des!” (2450/0)

Walter’s grin couldn’t possible get any wider.

“I was going to use this on Forte. Imagine, being blown away by your own monster. But I guess, being beaten by your boyfriend’s monster is even better!”

Forte snarled. He wanted to break that lunatic in two when this was over.

“And he’ll be the last thing you’ll see! Ha Des, attack Rose directly!”

The zombified Ha Des laugh before letting out a blast of dark flame towards Rose.

“I activate the effect of my trap card!” Rose announced, “Compost Barrier!”

Walter was surprised when a whirlwind of leaves, branches, and other plant parts rose up, blocking the attack.

“But how!?” Walter cried out, “You didn’t have any face down cards!”

“I didn’t have to,” Rose glared at Walter, “I can activate its effect when it’s in the graveyard, but removing it from the grave and discarding one plant monster.”

She pulled a card from her hand.

“And I’ll choose this one. Dandylion. And when Dandylion is sent to the graveyard, I can special summon two fluff tokens to the field.”

Walter snarled venomously as two small balls of fluff appeared on Rose’s side of the field. (0/0) x2

“Fine, we’ll just let the torture continue for a bit longer. I’ll normal summon Zombie Mammoth!”

A skeletal mammoth with barely any meat hanging from its bones appeared on the field, letting out a powerful cry. (1900/0)

“Now, I’ll play the spell card Creature Swap! I’ll take one of your tokens, and give you my mammoth!”

The mammoth cried as it was pulled to Rose’s side of the field, as a gust of wind blew one of the fluff tokens over to Walters.

“But don’t think I’m helping you. You see, when Zombie Mammoth is the only zombie on your side of the field, it’s automatically destroyed, and you loose its attack points as damage!”

Rose gasped as the zombie suddenly exploded violently, firing pieces of bone everywhere. The blast through Rose down onto her back, causing a cry of pain to shoot from her lips.

    Rose: 100
    Walter: 3300

“Rose!” Forte cried out, wanting to run over and help her up. He stopped when he saw Rose painfully climb back to her feet.

    “This…isn’t…over,” Rose growled.

“No,” Walter chuckled, “But I’m going to make you wish it was. I activate the field spell Zombie World!”

Rose and Forte gasped as the place suddenly turned into a dark countryside, with barren earth, twisted trees, and dark clouds in the sky. It resembled just as it was supposed to, a land of undead.

“Now, as long as this card is in play, all monsters on the field and both of our graveyards are considered zombies. Also, you cannot tribute summon a monster unless it’s a zombie.”

Rose was shocked. Her cards were virtually useless as zombies!

“Now then, it’s your last turn. Make it count!”

    Rose shakily drew.

“I’ll set one card face down, and one monster in defence mode. That will end my turn.”

Walter laughed as he drew, the two cards appearing before Rose.

“That’s it? I thought you would have put up a bit more of a fight, or have you finally given up?”

“Anyway, it is time we ended this. I’ll now tribute your fluff token in order to summon Red Eyes Zombie Dragon!”

The fluff token burst into dark flame as a form that could only be described as a zombified Red Eyes Black Dragon rose up to the field, letting out a chilling roar. (2400/2000)

“Now, Revived King Ha Des, destroy her Fluff token!”

With a cruel laugh, the zombified king incinerated Rose’s last token.

“Now, Red Eyes, attack her face down card!”

The dragon roared and let out a blast of dark flame, engulfing Rose’s side of the field. The form of a large seed appeared briefly before being reduced to ash.

“Well then,” Walter chuckled, “Whatever you were hoping to accomplish just failed miserably. You see, as long as Ha Des is on the field, every zombie can negate the effects of any monster they attack

and to top things off, when my dragon destroys a zombie, I can special summon it on my side of the field!”

Rose watched helplessly as the cracked, zombified form of her Seed Pot appeared on the field. (500/500)

“Now then, Seed Pot, attack Rose directly!”

The seed cracked, letting out a blast of dark spores directly at Rose.

“I activate my trap card!” rose shouted, “Defence Draw!”

Walter snarled as the attack slammed harmlessly into the card.

“This not only blocks your attack, but lets me draw a card as well,” Rose explained as she drew.

“Fine!” Walter spat, “I’ll end my turn.”

    Rose drew.

“I’ll summon Floral Knight Sunflower in attack mode!”

Rose’s flamboyant knight appeared on the field, appearing a bit uneasy with the environment he was summoned in. Rose also couldn’t help but notice he was much paler than usual. She figured this had something to do with Zombie World. (2000/1200)

    “Now, attack Seed Pot!”

The knight nodded and attacked, striking the pot with his weapon, shattering it instantly.

    Rose: 100
    Walter: 1800

“Unfortunately, Sunflower’s effect forces me to give you five hundred lifepoints each time he attacks.” Sunflower blew a bit of pollen all over Walter, increasing his lifepoints.

    Rose: 100
    Walter: 2300

“On the plus side though, my Seed Pot’s effect now activates, allowing me to special summon a level four or lower plant to the field. And I’ll choose Floral Knight Tulip in defence mode!”

Another pink floral knight, just life the first, only paler with red eyes, appeared on the field, glaring at Walter (1600/1800)

    “Now, I’ll activate Nightmare’s Steelcage!”

Walter growled as the iron cage appeared around him, sealing him and his zombies inside ad keeping Rose out of their reach.

    “That ends my turn.”

    Walter growled and drew.

“I summon Paladin of the Cursed Dragon in attack mode!”

Forte and Rose had both heard of a ritual monster known as the Paladin of the White Dragon, something Kaiba had in his possession. This monster looked like him if he had been brutally killed and then brought back with necromancy. The once sparkling white dragon was now a decayed wreck. The dragon let out a strangled roar. (1900/1200)

“Now, I’ll activate his ability, which allows to special summon one zombie from either of our graveyards! And thanks to my Zombie World, I think I’ll take your Floral Knight Lily!”

Rose felt her stomach turn when she saw the zombified form of her knight clamour out of the earth. (1800/1700)

“That will be all,” Walter smirked at the expression on Rose’s face.

    Rose drew.

“I’ll activate Tulip’s effect to special summon a seed token to the field.”

Tulip rummaged through her bag before pulling out a seed and tossing it onto the ground next to her. (0/0)

“That will be all for now.”

Walter drew. His zombies clawed hungrily at the cage, wanting to get at the young woman outside.

“I’ll activate my Paladin’s effect again. And this time I’ll bring back your Grass Phantom! In defence mode.”

Up from the ground rose the decayed, grotesque remains of Rose’s plant. It let out a disgusting gurgle as its eyes, now red, glared at Rose. (1000/1000)

“And that, will be all,” Walter grinned maliciously as the cage began to evaporate. Unable to wait, the zombies tore free of the cage, crying out in triumph and rage, causing Rose to step back in fright.

“Next turn,” Walter chuckled coldly, “Next turn my little zombie horde can finally feed, and you and your monsters provide a good meal.”

“Don’t listen to him!” Forte called from the sidelines, “You can still win this! I know you can!”

Fortes words seemed to calm her as she drew.

“I’ll start by switching Tulip into attack mode! And of course have her effect to special summon another seed token.”

The zombie floral knight got into a fighting stance, ready for anything. She reached into her pouch and pulled out another seed. (0/0)

    “Now, Tulip, attack Grass Phantom!”

With a cry and a slash, Tulip sliced through the undead plant, recoiling when it exploded, sending mulch everywhere.

“Now, Sunflower, attack the Paladin of the Curse Dragon!”

The yellow knight grinned before twirling towards the undead paladin, decapitating his mount before slicing him in two. The knight then gave a mock bow before blowing another handful of healing pollen onto Walter.

    Rose: 100
    Walter: 2700

“I’ll now set two cards face down and end my turn.”

Walter drew, grinning as the two cards appeared.

“Time for all this to end! Red Eyes Zombie Dragon! Attack that little pink zombie tramp! Black Inferno Blast!”

With a powerful roar, the dragon let loose another burst of dark flame. The pink
Floral knight squeaked and braced herself.

”Activate trap card!” Rose shouted, “Negate Attack!”

Even when the vortex appeared to absorb the attack, Rose still shielded herself from the intense heat it was giving off.

    Walter growled angrily.

“Why wont you just lay down and die!?” he barked angrily.

    Rose glared up at him.

“Because I’m not some weak little girl you can kick around,” Rose seethed between her teeth, “Now it’s my turn!”

She drew. Forte watched, trying to remain calm.

Come on Rose. He gave you a chance with that slip up just now. You can beat him Rose. You’re stronger than him.

    I know you are…

“First, I’ll use Tulip’s effect to special summon another seed token!”

Another rummage, another seed token (0/0)

“Now, I’ll activate the trap card Immortal Class!”

Walter’s eyes widened as the trap card lifted. Rose smirked.

“Looks like I found a flaw in your Zombie World. By tributing two monsters, I can special summon a level seven or higher monster from my graveyard, no matter what. So now, I’ll sacrifice two of my seed tokens!”

Two of the three seeds cracked and burst into a flurry of red rose petals.

“In order to bring back Floral Knight Rose!”

Brandishing her sword and shield, the red floral knight appeared amongst the rose petals, glaring hatefully at Walter. (2500/1700)

“Now, Sunflower, attack Floral Knight Lily!”

Although reluctant, the yellow knight followed his orders and cut down his undead comrade, blowing some more pollen onto Walter when he was done.

    Rose: 100
    Walter: 3000

“I’m sorry Lily…” Rose murmured before her glare hardened, “Now, Rose, destroy Red Eyes Zombie Dragon!”

The dragon roared in defiance as the red knight charged, her sword held high. With one, clean swing, she cleaved the zombie into two. It gave out one last roar before shattering violently.

    Rose: 100
    Walter: 2900

Rose smirked. “That ends my turn.”

Walter was beside himself now, fuming with rage.

“And now I’ll end your miserable life!” Walter shrieked as he drew, “I’ll play the spell card Contagion of Decay!”

Rose gasped in horror was a cloud of pestilence rose up and swarmed her side of the field. She could only watch helplessly as her monsters rotted away into nothing.

Walter’s rage turned into deranged laughter.

“My Contagion of Decay allows me to destroy that same number of monsters you control, as the number of zombies in my graveyard!”

Walter calmed, his manic grin changing into a triumphant smirk.

“Of course, I can’t attack this turn, but what the heck. Your turn. Not that it matters anyway.”

Rose’s hand trembled as she drew. She couldn’t find anything in her hand that could stand up to Ha Des. Every time she got the upper hand, this man found a way to take it all away in one fell swoop.

    “Don’t give in!”

Rose looked up at Forte, his strong green eyes staring directly into her brown.

“You can do this Rose! I know you can! I’m here for you!”

“Here for me…” Rose murmured as her eyes turned to the field. A sudden realization dawned on her.

    He is!

“I’ll play Magical Stone Excavation! By discard two cards, I can take one spell card from my graveyard, and add it to my hand!”

She discarded the two cards, pulling a card from her graveyard.

“Now, I’ll summon Rose, Warrior of Revenge!”

A female warrior in black, with white scarves and red hair tied into a ponytail, wielding a sword appeared on the field. She struck a battle pose, her dark eyes glaring at Walter (1600/600)

Walter didn’t seem the least bit phased by her.

“Well, looks like she wont get her revenge this time. She can’t hold a candle to Ha Des.”

“I’m not done yet,” Rose smirked, “Now, let’s go for a change of scenery. I play Black Garden!”

Walter took a step back in surprise as thorned vines burst from the ground, wrapping around and choking everything. Statues and fountains, chocked with plant life appeared, turning the place into some kind of overgrown garden.

“Now that your eyesore of a world is gone, I can now play this. Mark of the Rose!”

Walter’s eyes widened in horror as the mark appeared on Ha Des’ cheek. The revived king floated over to Roses side, beside the warrior of revenge. Sweat began to run down the psychopath’s face.

“Now then, it’s time we ended this! Here’s a little ass-kicking, from me and Forte! Rose! Ha Des! Attack him directly!”

Walter barely had any time to scream before the two attacks sent him flying onto his back.

    Rose: 100
    Walter: 0

The warrior of revenge and the revived king exchanged a small smile before vanishing into thin air. Rose breathed a sigh of relief. It was over, and she felt a weight lifting off her shoulders. She turned to Forte, a weary, but triumphant smile on her lips. A congratulatory smile was Forte’s response.

Then a shriek of demented fury filled the air.

Before Rose could see what was going on, she felt a weight slam into her, knocking her to the ground. Walter’s eyes with burning with an insane rage, fuming as he rose the bolt cutters high over his head, planning to bring them down on Rose’s skull.

Thankfully, Forte acted fast enough to stop that. He caught his arm on the down swing and through the psychotic lunatic off of her. Walter quickly scrambled to his feet, his eyes now focused on Forte.

It was at this time that Forte decided to let out all the rage he had been holding in this entire duel. A black aura began to surround him.

“Time to put you away for good!” Forte backed, sending a wave of darkness at Walter. The blonde maniac managed to get out one last cry of rage before the wave hit him.

He stood stock still for a moment, his eyes glazed over at the bolt cutters slipped out of his hand. A small squeak crawled from his throat before he slumped lifelessly to the floor.

Rose slowly climbed to her feet, looking at Walter’s body in shock. What did Forte just do?

The lavender haired duellist turned to her.

“Are you ok?” he asked quietly, walking over to her. Rose nodded.

    “What did you…” She began.

“He wont bother any of us anymore,” Forte replied simply. Rose wasn’t sure what exactly he did, but she was inclined to believe him. She looked over at his comatose form. He appeared alive, just, not there. Like he was in a coma or something.

    “Rose?”

The young woman looked up at Forte.

“I’m a bit curious. Why do you have the warrior or revenge in your deck? She isn’t a plant monster.”

Rose looked down at the floor sheepishly.

“Well, I guess I kind of saw myself in her, that’s all. Kind of like how you see yourself in Ha Des. I know it’s kind of silly, but…”

“Hmm, I always thought you saw yourself in Floral Knight Rose,” Forte mused. Rose was quite for a moment before shrugging and replying.

“I could never really picture myself in armour.”

She was rewarded with a small smile and a chuckle from Forte as he walked over and knelt by the pile of cards Walter dropped. He picked up Gale Phantom Kazard, looking over it. He already had Autocthan, why not collect the rest as well?

He slipped the avatar of wind into his pocket and looked back at Rose.

“Come on, we’ve still got a bit to go,” he said before heading for the door.

Rose paused for a moment before quietly moving over to the pile of cards as well. She knelt down, picking up one specific card.

    Revived King Ha Des.

He and Forte were so similar. They were considered lost, but then came back, changed.

But deep down, she knew their original selves were in their somewhere.

She held the card over her heart briefly before sliding it into her deck holder and following Forte out of the room.

That was one heck of a duel, and I'm really not complaining. I am pretty sure however, that "Spirit Barrier" is the name of another Trap Card with a different effect.

Anyway, keep the chapters coming. I'm well aware that Rose, Warrior of Revenge is also a Tuner Monster, and Rose may well use a Synchro of her own soon. (One small thing, however: She cannot summon that Synchro Monster using Rose, Warrior of Revenge. To Synchro Summon Revived King Ha Des, you must use Plaguespreader Zombie as the Tuner, much like you can only use Junk Synchron to summon Junk Warrior.)

Thanks mate. Just so you know, Rose isn't going to use the Revived King. She's only keeping him as a momento of sorts.

I just took a look around and realized you were right. The card I meant was Spirit Shield.
