I'm also keen on this idea, since I always found it a bit of shame that if I send out a fire pokemon, there would always come a water pokemon out to haunt me, if not immediatly, once the other faints.

This would highly improve the strategic aspect of ASB AND the creativity of the trainers, since he just has to work with what he's got.

Voting for this, although I'm planning to make a team which consists only about seven or eight pokemon. I do have a small feeling that I won't succeed and will have tons again.

Id say Definite, as the standard for ASB so that everyone new and old gets used to just using 'what they have with them' but make it liftable for novelty matches where more than 6 would be used etc.

Well tbh if it isnt compulsory then its just gonna be another novelty that gets ignored after a week or so.
Ive already been using it in some of my battles, making my opponent choose a team in advance etc...

If it is generating this much positive feedback I highly doubt it would 'fade away'. If it was utilised and made compulsary, how long before people got bored of it and wanted to do things as they were?

I definitely think offer the idea - even make it compulsary for Gym Matches or Tournaments. But making it a new rule seems OTT. Before a match, it can be decided upon like all the other factors.

To make this clear before starting. I am not against the idea. I have not shot down this idea. I am merely pointing our the inherent flaws I see that I feel need to be attended to early on. Some people think that when I give input, its an automatic shutdown.


I see both sides of the plate here. Nothing of course, is set in stone, but I understand the need to shake things up in order to push and excel. This is going to need a trial run. I can see the PC topic being cluttered with changes all the time, and I'm going to ask thsi first

Because battles can take a very long time-and if so, you could just...switch belts out week by week and start battles, just following what you had that week before... we'd be where we are at now. (I know its an extreme example; but it still needs to be addressed.)

This would help people trying to get their lower members some much needed experience, however, which is always a good thing. It would force people to be more strategic, which is always good as well.

But again, this needs to be tested. Making it mandatory may zap the fun out of ASB for some. But we need to define its limits first, so we can better evaluate it. If the time limit is marginal, it wont be any different than it is now. If it is around the amount of time it takes for people to finish a battle or two (lets say two/three weeks--dedicated), then the idea won't seem so bad.

I can sympathise with Darkestlight and since he is the onyl ASB Mod who has taken massive interest in this topic and we will probably need one to get this thing up and running I will try and answer some of his questions with my ideas on the PC system.

I think the belts could have an unlimited duration because some people might want to keep that set of pokemon for a long time and not have the trouble of going back to the PC topic every week or so to keep typing in the same team over and over again. But I would propose a time limit on how often a belt can be swapped out maybe 5-7 days so the topic will also be not cluttered with people continously swapping belts every few hours. Also in battles you would have to conform to the belt you had at that current time, the current team could be posted in the topic (but this option allows the other fighter to see their team and makes choices based on pokemon type or alternatively pm'ed to the ref of that fight so they could monitor the choices to make sure they conform to the belts and so that neither fighter could see their opponents team.

He DL, I full heartily volunteer to Trial Run this system (PC and 6 PKMN Limit). I think it'll be entertaining and more closer to an "RP"-ness that seems to be seeping into ASB (not that it's a bad thing mind you).

This way we can get some first-hand understanding of how the system works and whether it may be applicable and useful.

Lenght of duration should not be maximized, but minimized. As CEB said, some people will keep their team of six for a long time, others will want to switch a lot. For those who switch a lot:

- You can not store a pokemon on your belt if it's still in battle.
- The minimum time any belt can be switched is 14 days. (Does this sound to long for you guys? I just considered that ending a match here takes about three weeks anyway.)

As a little side thingy I'd suggest that Gymleaders make their own belt, for the Gym, which they probably should alter that much.

I agree with what most of MLG said except for this quote, because if the challengers know what pokemon they are going to face for certain then they can stack their own team for an unfair advantage. But as I said other then that its a good idea.

Yeah, I thought to give challengers some kind of edge in fighting a gymleader, as his belt is six pokemon strong and most matches only take about three or four pokemon anyway, but you've got a valid point.

I'm still not convinced. I mean, the pick-your-Pokemon-ahead-of-sending-them-out-idea was cool, and I'd like to use that, but the more regulations you tack onto ASB the more it seems laborious and restrictive. Some people come here every day but some come less often, and only want to drop in for a little bit of fun. Think about banned moves, DQ times and such. I'm sure at some point in the past people have wanted these things standardised, but people have pointed out that these should be left to the battler. Making the DQ time 48 hours would be a ridiculous idea, but let people try it if they want. Attract is a move that can really f*ck up a match, hence why it is always asked to be left out. But if someone allows it in a match, so be it. I could go on. And while this is an innovative idea, and I can see that a lot of people are on board - nothing should really be standardised, should it? At least because this idea, despite people being on board - has only surfaced in the last couple of days.

And Charles...I know you're prone to talking a lot, but I have no recollection of you ever mentioning this idea before. Was it in the ASB forum?

RE: The Gyms.

I believe the Gyms should have their own set of Pokemon which are seperate to the gym leader, but still loyal etc. But, in addition to that, the gym leader is welcome to use 1/3 their own Pokemon per match in addition to the Gym Pokemon.

So, that way when they leave or are defeated, the Gym has an arsenal to pass on. Like 4 igglybuff.
