    Default 09: Tundra Contest

    Tundra Contest

    The arena is winterwhite, a light layer of snow upon the hard grassy plain. The sky is filled with white clouds, making this area very bright to the human eye. There are no bodies of water here, but there are some snow dunes to the east and west ends of the arena. The audience stands run the width of the field-and it is open so no weather moves are allowed.

    Appealing stages
    Round 1: 8 people
    Round 2: 4 people
    Round 3: 2 people-Battle lasts 4 rounds.

    Appeals are standard, as I'm just starting my hand at Contest Judging. But it's about time these came back, ne?

    Alright! Post your Pokemon and your Appeal. First 8 are in.1 *Cuts Ribbon* Let's go!

    1 MeLoVeGhOsTs
    2 Crazy Elf Boy
    3 Chris 2.1
    4 Dragonis
    5 Weasel Overlord
    6 Mew Master
    7 Asilynne
    8 Blademaster

    Wow...that was fast. Ok, after I get those two appeals, this will be underway. Hell, this might finish in a week and a half x_x!

    I'll choose Yaichi my female Snorunt for this contest.

    Yaichi, start off with Waterpulse and freeze it with Icebeam. Then break it and let it fly around in the air with a Blizzard. The pieces should fit nicely with the surroundings.

    Waterpulse - Icebeam - Blizzard.

    well if MLG is using a Snorunt then I shall go 1 better I will use Haku my Glalie.

    Ok Haku start off by using a Double team, then the your clones get into a X pattern and use a Hyperbeam, just as the 4 beams collide in the air use a Blizzard to flash freeze the moment the 4 beams collide. If all this works you should have a perfect scene of 4 Glalie's hyperbeaming in perfect unison.

    Double Team ~ Hyperbeam ~ Blizzard

    I'm using Bella, my female Houndoom. Let's show them what we can do.

    Start by using a fire spin all around you, surrounding you in a tornado of flames and melting the ice. Spray a flurry of swift stars into the fiery vortex, and end by shooting a bursting solarbeam up through the fire spin and into the sky.

    Fire Spin -- Swift -- Solarbeam

    I'm IN! Let's give it a try, Primi! (Female)

    Okay Primi, start off by covering the entire Arena with a Mist attack from the edge. Then use Double Team before charging across the arena with a Take Down.

    Show them the Mammoth coming through the mists of time!

    Hokay, I'm gonna be WILD and use a non-Ice type Pokemon. Ye gods!

    I choose Shrewd, my male Sableye!

    Shrewd, first show the judges just how unique your gems are with a Power Gem! Create it a way away in front of you, and floating slightly in the air if you can. Then use Shadow Sneak to take advantage of your ghost-like abilities, and finish with a Zen Headbutt to shatter that gem into a zillion shards!

    Woot for number 7!!

    Redemption (m), Volbeat

    Ok Redemption time to show everyone how beautiful you can be (or handsome, since youre a dude XD). Start off with Captivate to get the audiences attention: do a slow twirling dance while blinking your little light on and off, then amaze everyone with Flash, flash a bright pattern with your light to reflect off the beautiful snow! Finally finish off with a Silver Wind, beat your wings slowly as you dance to release silver crescents into the air as your light flickers out of the flash! Thats sure to dazzle the audience-- and the judges!

    I'll send out Tsunami, my female Dragonite.
    Alright Tsu, start off by flying up over the crowd and useing Dragon Dance. Make it a dark and creepy Dance while discreetly releasing a Hazey cloud to block out the sun. Then, as your still dancing, call down a small Draco Meteor to hit the middle of the arena.

    I'm sending out Dry Bones, my Marowak(M).

    Dry Bones, we're gonna recreate a classic Inuyasha move: the Windscar.

    Start off by pulling your sword back and using Iron Defense to make your bone sword shine like steel, then use a combination of Bone Club and Flamethrower: Swing your weapon and unleash a vicious blast of fire to split the ground in two and vaporize the nearest snow dune!

    I'm here I'm here!

    Tundra Contest

    Welcome to the first ASB Contest of the yer. I'm your high speed low food intake ref, DL, ready to help you all see just how well your Pokemon can perform! Without any further ado, let's get this show on the road.

    #1: MeLoVeGhOsTs and Yaichi (f)
    Waterpulse~Ice Beam~Blizzard

    The diminutive Pokemon takes center stage, warming everyone's hearts a lil as it seems to shiver in place upon the bleak landscape. In rapid fashion, a perfect set of three Waterrings were pulsed skyward. As they rose, Yaichi quickly formed an Ice Beam to fire, and shot the beam straight through the center of the pulses, before colliding with the top ring. The momentum forced the other rings to fly into the beam, freezing as well. As the rings began to seperate and fall, the Snorunt forces them back up with a mediocre Blizzard attack. It was enough to make the rings hover within the vertical ice storm, to everyones approval.

    #2: Crazy Elf Boy & Haku (M)
    Double Team~Hyper Beam~Blizzard

    Removing the larger Blizzard shards away, out comes Haku, a Glaile! Who would've guessed. It floats in place for a moment, before shimmering, creating 4 more copies of itself. The clones encircle Haku, before settling equidistant from one another, in X formation. Haku begins to charge up an immensly powerful attack, so much that his clones begin to fade away. The HyperBeam is released, and the clones mimic the action, sending 4 paler beams skyward, as the real one comes up from the center. Using his last energy, Haku creates a Blizzard to rain over the area, sweeping over his clones and himself as fast as possible, before backing away from the frozen scene he created. The clones are gone, and all that is left is very large pyramid of ice. Still impressive.

    #3: Chris 2.1 and Bella (F)
    Fire Spin~Swift~Solarbeam

    Dragging the ice Pyramid away, a Houdoom voraciously runs onto the field. She sparks up, before raising her head. Fires surge from the ground and revolve around her-however they are not very high. They don't wait long however, as Swift stars shoot up and out from the Fire spin. They alight themselves, dissipating into the sky with bright twinkles. Finally, a bright flash of light could be seen building from Bella, before a very powerful Solarbeam rockets out its epicenter, quelling the flames immediatly. The melted snow and vapor in the air at the base of the Spin reflects with the Solarbeam creating a very strong prismatic effect around Bella. People however shield their eyes, the massive light blast was unexpected.

    #4: Dragonis and Tsunami (F)
    Dragon Dance~Haze~Draco Meteor

    Mopping the water away..and bang. Here comes Tsunami a new Dragonite. She flies in above, everyone watching with wonder. Her flight seems erratic, and she dips low toward the crowd a few times while gyrating eerily, as if she's slightly possesed? It seems to pass, as a haze builds up in the sky, removing the sun. The silence lingers for a moment, until a massive string of meteros rupture the ererily quiet plateau, slamming with force into the ground. Snow and dirt fly all about, some snow reaching the stands. The sun began to poke back in, illuminating the crater.

    Intermission. Audience can stretch as we refill the crater...Ima get me some hot juice....and...we're back. Thanks Dugtrio .

    #5: Weasel Overlord and Shrewd (M)
    Power Gem~Shadow Sneak~Zen Headbutt

    Alright. Field renewed, Shrewd makes his appearance. He knlles in the snow, before throwing his hands out, and a thick coalescence of ice shards and snow quick meld together, creating a Gem not too far away. It imbeds at the crest of a snow dune, giving him the height he needs. To cover that distance, he begins to run, only to stealthily evaporate into the elongated shadow of the Gem. Reappearing directly next to it, his head glowing with an foreboding eminence, Shrewd collides directly with the Gem, shattering most of it into pieces. The pieces land all around him and reflect the light brilliantly,although his head is in the dune now.

    #6: Mew Master and Primi (F)
    Mist~Double Team~Take Down

    As the Gem pieces are wiped away, our largest land competitor so far enters. Primi stays near the rear of the arena however, compelling the audience to lean forth. A Mist rolls out from the edges, slightly obscuring their vision of her. Then, through the fog, people being to point, as they see a heard of the ancient Mamoswine charge through the mist, in V formation. The lead Primi takes Down a dune as she runs through the middle of the arena. She however, finds it hard to slow down, and skids a little, but is able to come to a sliding stop, her clonse doing the same.

    #7: Asilynne and Redemption (M)
    The Mist rolls away, and a Volbeat takes center stage. The audience leans forward again to watch the small bug as it begins to take flight, spinning in midair and revolving around its blinking rear light. The audience as a whole seemed captivated buy it-if only slightly. That light however, suddenly expanded into a vicious seriesFlash, which was a tad strong on the reflective snow. He pulled off a pattern well enough, but even he seemed a bit dazed at all the blight relfective Flashes. To end, he ended his spinning and hovered. Slow wingbeats pumped off excess flakes of energy that quickly beamed in the air, enhancing his wingbeats and the light show to a more tolerable level.

    #8: Blademaster and Dry Bones (M)
    Iron Defense~Bone Club~Flamethrower

    Our final coOrdinator and his Pokemon appear. Dry Bones takes center stage and raises his "sword" in the air. He stands as still as a statue, attaining a glossy hue for a few moments, to the wonder of the audience. Then, he brings his club back, and runs forward. Right hand glowing, he lunges, swinging the club back and over his head with one hand while firing a Flamethrower from his open left palm. The fire shoots right through a dune before the bone club hits-evaporating it, and causing the surrounding fine snow to blast outward omnidirectionally.

    ~~Scores~~

    #1) Score: 8.1/10
    Very simple appeal, freeze things and make them hover. Could have been a bit more to it to dazzle the crowd-however a solid showcase of abilities.

    #2) Score: 6.9/10
    While I understand the commands given, execution was crucial here, and the clones weren't able to withstand two heavy attacks in a row. The end product was still nice to see.

    #3) Score: 7.6/10
    Very nice buildup, attracting the eyes away from the fire with the stars flying everywhere. The fire however, wasn't as power as it could have been on the frozen earth and snow. The massive beam to showcase raw power within a bleak landscape was nice, but its reflective quality hurt.

    #4) Score: 8.8/10
    That was in a completely different vein. It was a very strong way of showing how desolate and scary a ice plain can be, and yet how the plain still survives and changes its scars into beauty. The beginning though was a bit odd, wasn't sure if Tsunami was able to fly..

    #5) Score: 8.0/10
    The end pulled this one together. A hard setup, but a brilliant, flashy end. However, slightly contradictory in the sense of being sneaky and then ending brightly. The speed of Shadow Sneak detracted from the final move working as well as it could have.

    #6)
    Score: 8.6/10
    Nice solid show of power, and to appeal to the concept of ancient things still living in the hidden icy lands. Very moving. I believed I was watching a herd.

    #7) Score: 7.5/10
    It was nice, using the snow to reflect light, but the glare was strong, and it was directed at the audience. The end was nice, the Silver Winds composition help to refract light much better.

    #8) Score: 8.4/10
    A solid appeal. NothIng really made it stand out, aside from the destruction of a snow dune. Still, nothing about it made it bad either.

    End Notes

    Thanks to everyone-I thoroughly enjoyed seeing what you brung to the table for the start of what we hope to be a great year filled with Contests..

    Dragonis, Mew Master, Blademaster and MeLoVeGhoSTs, you four will be moving on. Please post your next round of attacks. Standard 3 round appeal again.

    My apologies for not stating this earlier, but there will be no switching of Pokemon in this Contest. What you've picked it what you'll use all the way through.

    First use a Substitute on the floor, then hit it with a well placed Icebeam so that it becomes a sculpture, then Rollout around the room and hit it, shattering the ice (and destroying the substitute ofcourse).

    EDIT: Substitute - Icebeam - Rollout.

    Okay Primi, first round was good, but that was the easy part. Let's keep up the heat, or cold in this case.

    First, Double Team and act like your clones are grazing through the snow. Then, unleash an Avalanche on the arena (taking careful precaution NOT to hit the stands), to wipe out the clones and slightly bury yourself. After climbing out and looking around, let out a mournful Roar. Tug at their heartstrings as the last of the herd!

    Alright Tsu, start off by hitting the closest snow dune with an Aqua Tail. Then hit the wet snow with an Ice Beam, before it has a chance to hit the ground, to freeze it in place. After that plow into your new ice sculpture with Dragon Rush to send the ice sparkling about in the sun.

    Right, right, I'm here.

    Bones, we recreated one badass animu sword attack last round; we're gonna do the same this round: We're gonna use Ike's Aether attack from Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

    Start off by flinging your bone straight up into the air with Bonemerang. Send it spinning straight up like a propeller, then use Aerial Ace to jet into the air after it and catch it at the apex of its flight. Finally, do a somersault, then split the ground with an Earthquake!

    Round 2

    As the Tundra is re littered with snow, and the eliminated moved over to the front row of seats designated for them, we move on to our second round! By the scores received, it is shown that MeLoveGhosts starts things off again!

    #1) MeLoVeGhOsTs & Yaichi (F)
    Substitute~Ice Beam~Rollout

    The Snorunt toddles back onto the field, still shivering under its blanket. Grasping the snow with its petite hands, the little guy quickly molds a snow Subsitiute of itself for the audience to see. Backing away a foot or so, she then fires a Ice Beam directly at the lower back of the statue. Engulfed for a split second, the stature survives the beam, but is now completly ice. Finally, Yaichi tumbles, and continues to roll, zooming over a snow dune and making a sharp left, before heading back to the Substitute and smashing it through. However, she dosen't stop and keeps rolling into another dune. That stopped her. A healthy round of applause concludes this appeal.

    #2) Blademaster & Dry Bones (M)
    Bonemerang~Aerial Ace~Earthquake

    Yaichi quickly runs off, and the small ice shards are swept away. Out comes Dry Bones, who quickly starts by flinging the Bone Club vertically. As it rotates in the air and reaches its apex, Bones crouches, before shooting up into the sky to reclaim it. Grabbing it with one hand, he rotates with the blade, before delivering a heavy overhead strike that forces both back down to the planet, completly obliterating a snow dune-and causing a tremor to rip through the arena. The stands shake and the audience seems nervous, but they settle down, to a nice round of applause.

    #3) Mew Master & Primi (M)
    Double Team~Avalanche~Roar

    The snow dune is quickly rebuilt and we kinda refill the split earth. Not too long after, Primi takes the stage. Instantaneously, there are 4 Mamoswine, each seemingly grazing on the tundra. Suddenly a rumbling comes from behind the Mamoswine herd-as a huge Avalanche of snow comes tumbling down. They all feign to run, but all are slammed by the onslaught. The Avalanche slows and stops before it reaches the stands, but there is silence. Suddenly, Primi bursts out of the top of the fallen slow, and belts out a huge mournful Roar. Some people clap, but I think a baby is crying...

    #4) Dragonis & Tsunami (F)
    Aqua Tail~Ice Beam~Dragon Rush

    After removing the excess snow, Tsunami takes center spotlight. Under the trainers command, the lengthy Pokemon swings her tailabout, watching it build up a watery layer around it. With no conviction, she slams her Tail into a dune-sending snow flurries and water droplets in the air. As they twinkle, a beam of condensed Ice rips through the upheaved water, turning it from liquid to solid. The result was half of the frozen arc of the explosion of the dune. This right half was demolished as Tsunami ripped through the heart of the open sculpture with a Rush of energy, sending ice..everywhere to the right. The ice shards twinkle in the sunlight, and the crowd applauds.

    ~Scores~

    #1) Score: 8.4/10
    Starting appeals seem to be your forte. This was solid-and the little bit at the end only helped to make it seem like Yaichi was just a child playing in the snow.

    #2) Score: 8.9/10
    The anime strategy worked again this round. Nice flashy start, but I was slightly put off by the Earthquake. It added a sense of power to the whole appeal though. The crowd loved it as well, so that has to say something.

    #3) Score: 8.0/10
    The loss of a herd. It seemed very believable, but the crowd may have been feeling a bit too pumped from all the exciting appeals. The choice of moves were very well thought out, and played together nicely in this setting.

    #4) Score: 8.2/10
    A very scattered appeal. It seemed that you were going for a full out ice explosion at the end, but Tsunami made do with what she could. The dapple effect with the flying ice was nice, but only one side of the stands got the full effect.

    End Notes

    After this second round, I am proud to say that MeLoVeGhOsTs and Blademaster will be moving on to the final round of the Contest! It's a 4 round battle, so be sure to bring your best to the table here! Blade, you'll go first.

    Yah. I stated that at the bottom of the first round of reffing in red (because I forgot to edit it in the main post)-that there was no switching.

    Well, this is some match-up... May as well make the best of it.

    Start with Toxic, then use Flamethrower, followed by Iron Head.

    Contest Battle

    ===Rules===

    1 vs 1
    Four Round battle

    MeLoVeGhOsTs
    Yaichi M Snorunt
    100/100
    Safeguard~Double Team~Blizzard

    VS

    Blademaster
    Dry Bones, M Marowak
    100/100
    Toxic~Flamethrowrr~Iron Head

    ===Round 1===

    We've reached the battle round for our Contest everyone! To my left is MeLoVeGhOsTs and to my right is Blademaster. We'll be seeing them battle for 4 rounds, and whomever triumphs over the other shall win the contest!

    Battlers, take your positions and let's see what ya got.

    ===Fight!===

    Blademaster commands Bones to go on the passive offensive, starting this battle off by commanding a Toxic ro hit poor little Yaichi. Yaichi however, has other plans, and throught the time has been shivering hard! So hard in fact, that a mist of some sort has enveloped him, guarding his physical form form any type of indirect damage.

    With the distance Bones covered before firing the goo, Yaichi was plently safe from harms way.

    Yaichi: -4E ==///== Bones: -3E

    Yaichi tries to divesify his odds, quickly splintering off into a total of 5 clones. Bones looks about, at his quintet of adversaries, before shooting a slew of flames at the farthestmost contendor. Unforutnatly, it was a dune, that now has a U shape gouge through its melted surface.

    Yaichi: -4E (3 clones) ==///== Blade: -8E

    Feeling a bit of stress, Bones raises his club warily as the Yaichi's all move in, their beady little eyes peering hard at their cornered target. They all raised their tiny hands, and the dunes begin to lose their impressive stature. Winds come into the stadium and whip around, audience members huddling up as the Blizzard forms. Bones looks around him as it gets colder, and notes that all but one clone aren't being hit by the snow flying up from a dune behind the group. Fighting the cold all over his body, he quickly Iron Head's the oddball out, and his guess was correct. Yaichi goes flying, his clones evaporating.

    Yaichi: -9E/-14H ==///== Bones: -7E/-18H

    Yaichi looks hurt, and Bones rubs his body, trying to warm up in this Tundra.

    ===Round 2===

    Holding his bone club in front of him, Marowak begins to Focus all of his energy into it. Yaichi takes the lapse in offense to fire off a thick Ice Beam that slams directly into the club, pushing Bones backwards. Buckling under the rpessure, Bones swings the club, releasing a Blast of energy that splits the Ice Beam, and flies into Yaichi.

    Yaichi: -7E/-20H ==///== Bones: -10E/-12H

    Rolling off his back, Yaichi is able to make a scambling dash over to Bones and goes to sink little fangs into Bone's arm. The small Ice Type rams into Bones..and bounces off? Yeap, a shield is up, protecting Bones as he sits and watches as Yaichi goes flying.....

    Yaichi: -8E ==///== Blade: -9E

    .....the freezing cold and the annoyance of Yaichi were more than enough for Bones to Focus on. He dashed after the just-landed Ice Type, slamming him with a fist that seems to shatter Yaichi into pieces! Or that just may have been the Safeguard fading away..

    First use Rain Dance to own the Sunny Day. Then hit him with Waterpulse before he can dig. Use Avalanche when he hits you for ultimate damage.

    Rain dance - Waterpulse - Avalanche.

    Also I believe Dig takes two actions? Digging and re-appearing.

    ===Round 3===

    Yaichi isn't giving up yet, and shows his determination by...challenging Bones ot a dance off? Seriously? Yaichi prances around, light as a driedle. The storm clouds begin to brew overhead, before the clouds part. Staring skyward, Yaichi loos perplexed, until Bones comes out, performng a strange sort of waltz that brings the sun out again.

    Yaichi: -4E ==///== Bones: -4E
    Sun: Til the end of the match

    Upset over that, Yaichi fired off a small legion of Watery Pulses at Bones. Bones quickly tore at the snow-covered earth, and realized that the ground was packed and frozen....not ideal for digging at all. Even teh sun being out didn't help loosen the ground that fast. Not to mention his hands were stioll pretty cold and hard. All in all, he was hit by that Pulse and knocked on his backside.

    Yaichi: -5E ==///== Blade: -4E/-5H

    Grateful for the sun, Bones rolled over. Yaichi looked like a sitting duck, and he very well became one as Bones charged him, using his club to erupt stones from the ground and bat them into the Snorunt. Yaichi cried out in true pain, but sucked up his tears, and used them as a focus.

    Cold mist began to flow toward Bones, and before the Marowak knew what hit him, those same rocks tumbled right back toward him, along with a ton of snow from the dunes in the area. They crashed on the Marowak, burying him from view.

    Yaichi: -9E/-21H ==///== Bones: -10E/-23H

    I see some snow moving, so I'm gonna suspect Bones is in there. This is going to be a very hard hitting final round!

    Blizzard - Avalanche - Icebeam!

    If you feel that you're going to faint on the last turn, use Ice Shard instead for a last-resort blow.

    It's been an honor, MLG. You're one of my favorite guys to battle against, y'know.

    Dry Bones, use Swords Dance to blow that Avalanche off you and try and repel those frigid Blizzard winds. Then, wait for Avalanche to pass so it doesn't increase in power when it hits you, and counterstrike with a Focus Blast. Finally, obliterate that Ice attack AND Yaichi with a vicious Fire Blast.

    Move: Protect, Focus Blast, Fire Blast

    By my math, this one is gonna be damn close... May the better Coordinator win.

    ===Round 4===

    This final round is fast and furious. Bones just finished digging himself out of that Avalanche. Yaichi tries his best to conjure up a crippling Blizzard, throwing his hands in the air and waving them hectically. Bones just stands there, watching the winds whip around him, as his Translucent barriers shimmers with the reflection of the light off the ice. He warms his hands as he waits.

    Yaichi: -9E ==///== Bones: -9E

    Pissed, Yaichi tries to and conjures up another one, since Bones is standing there, all Focused again. Bones-ready to attack-walks up to him, but feels that telltale rumble. Running away, he turns to see the tonnage that buried him once before already on the move, and it sweeps over him witrh a horrid force once again. He yells, but its drowned out by the Avalanche's mighty roar.

    ...but an immense blast of Focus energy comes from that club-wielding creature once again, and shatters almost all of Yaichi's resolve for a swift end to this match. Bones walks out of the debris, club swishing back and forth.

    Yaichi: -9E/-20H ==///== Blade: -10E/-19H

    The sun was not Yaichi's friend. Still smoking, he wobbly rose from his graave, and turned to see Bones walk out of the debris, bone club high above his head. Watching the club spin, it seemd to be the onset of fiery conclusion. The enigmatic symbol erupted into flames due to the suns overwelming presence, and Yaichi had one shot.

    A small, yet high speed Ice Shard flew threw the sky, past the Fire blast before Bones could block it, it was too danged fast. It slammed Bones right in the eye! Bones roared in disbelief, and launched the attack, Yaichi running for the Avalanche cover! That...wasn't really happening. Bones heldf his eyes shut as Yaichi seemed to almost melt in the rain of Flmes that blasted him away.

    Yaichi: -3E/-21H ==///== Bones: -10E/-9H

    Yikes! What a way to end-with a fiery finish!
