To be honest, if you don't want harassment, don't list your sexual preferences in your gamer profile. You're playing Halo 3, not attending a gay marriage march, so no one cares about your personal life and it has no place there. I don't go around screaming how straight I am, so why should it be different for anyone else? Anyone who feels their sexuality means so much to them that they need to define it in their X-Box Live profile really has an incredibly vapid existence indeed. Being straight or gay doesn't make you any more or less special than anyone else, just different. It's as noteworthy as listing the colour of your hair, eyes, or the length of your toenails.

It doesn't make sense that they banned her just for stating her sexual preference, while Facebook has a specific spot in your profile for you to specify which way you swing. And guess what? Kids get on Facebook too.

The main difference is, Facebook is the place to put your superfluous details such as sexual preference and toe nail length, whereas XBox Live, where every other remark spouted over the team-speak is either a homophobic or racial slur, is where a bunch of kids go and play games. If you put your sexual preference on display to where people will see it and then spout some offensive remarks over voice about it, then that's exactly what's going to happen. Microsoft are just making sure that there aren't any details in your profile that could incite such behaviour, since they have a duty to try and keep the voice chat clean. True, they shouldn't have banned, perhaps deleting it and warning them would be better.

The thing that REALLY bugs me about this is that people are saying "it's ok because parents don't want their kids exposed to that". XBL has an age limit of 13. If you're 13 and you don't know that some people like other people of the same gender, then your parents have failed somewhere.

I just hope that the parents of those preteen bigots who harrassed and teamkilled her are proud that their children are able to identify things that are wrong and supress them properly - while at the same time hopefully never having come in contact with it before.

Entirely in agreement with Heald here; it sucks but it's quite irrelevant to the gaming society, and it's a lot easier and safer on Microsoft's part to stamp out the few who express it rather than face the wrath of the idiotic public that gets offended. They're just there to make games, not fight a war for equality. What's more concerning to me is the actions of the players, effectively lynching her for her sexual preference. Now that is just pathetically closed-minded and archaic.
If parents don't want their precious little kids exposed to reality, perhaps they shouldn't let them play friggin online games. Lord knows their frustrated/lonely/horny 13 year olds are displaying far worse 'deviant behaviour' than being homosexual, ffs.

So, a pastor in a church a few miles away from where I live was shot.

Apparently, there was a drama going on in the church and the pastor thought the gunman was part of the act. After he was shot, members of the congregation incapacitated the shooter. The pastor died from wounds sustained.

This is just ridiculous in that it's so close to home. My family knows people from that church, in particular a retired cop who may have been one of the people who took the shooter down.

About time, I only worry that the stories about some of the Embryo stem cells producing cancer are not wide spread. But like I said, about time we started back on this.

Edit: I did forget ( thanks to my brain running on like Zero Power ) that the ban originally came about as a careful bi partisan compromise by Bush, as he found a middle ground between the Right and Left. Which really is the only problem I could see with such a repeal.

I can't be bothered to go find the article, but I wouldn't bother going looking for it; it's offensive to the eyes of anyone who has any knowledge of science whatsoever.

Also, I don't really care that Brown received a snub from you Yanks, I'd expect you'd treat any unelected dictator with no accountability or mandate the same way. The fact is, Britain isn't the great empire it was 50 years ago. It's not just Fox News running it, ABC Radio also had a news burst about it, which is why I was able to hear about it while at work.

As far as I am aware, the ban repealed was specifically on embryonic stem cell research, not fetal, so there are no fetuses being destroyed.

I was about to say "Cool!" but then I realised isnt an embryo like a fetus but smaller? o.o They should just use cord blood whats the problem with that? Its a renewable resource! with very minimal effort on the governments part, and a tax break can be given to mothers who donate the cord or the cord blood to science, that way everyone wins

An embryo is effectively a fertilised human egg. Given 8 weeks, a human embryo has the potential to become a fetus, although most embryos used for stem cell research are used within 5 days of fertilisation. I say potential, because a human embryo may either become a fetus, may split and become two fetuses, or just die. The embryos used for stem cell research are also not taken from women but grown in clinics, therefore there is no chance of them ever becoming fetuses, and therefore human beings in the first place.

Also, embryonic stem cells are by far the most useful source of stem cells, that is why they are so important compared to, say, umbilical chord stem cells. One embryo can also supply a near limitless amount of stem cells.
