LOST season 5... (contains spoilers)

Anyone who agrees that it feels great to see a thread like this NOT in the entertainment forum and mingling with the rest of Misc, well, high five.
Last time there was a topic about LOST I think it still existed and it was on season 2 (might I add that the board was more active...). And might I mention that I didn't partake in those discussions.

So I had just recently actually picked up LOST due to everyone on my floor being obsessed with it. Watched all of it up to date in three weeks (yeah, I know, I crammed studies as well), and have been following it since.
Truth is before that I didn't really hear much mention of LOST because according to various sources the first two seasons were good, 3 and 4 sucked and a lot lost interest, and now it just went back to being crazy-good and a lot of people have gotten back in to it. And that's true, so I figured it's about time it deserved a thread.

As much as I liked the character-centric episodes back in the first 2-3 seasons, I think it's pretty cool how they don't do that any more, as it's finally reached the climax of an ongoing story where everyone's story's been told and everyone has a role, and it's pretty much at the climax. Locke last week was a bit of an exception, but it didn't have flashbacks of Locke's past or anything, and plus this was actually crucial to the story rather than "hey, I think it's Locke's turn to get an episode so let's make one and somehow tie it in to move the story forward".

As for the whole Ben/Widmore conflict, which it seems to now bend on, call me crazy but as fucked up as he is, I still think Ben isn't the real villain. Also considering Locke came back to life, I think Ben KNEW that was gonna happen. Just like what happened with Christian. His motives are still unclear.
I actually kinda spoiled a twist for myself before I started by watching a recent episode (had nothing better to do) right before starting the series and having no clue what was going on, it was the one with the Jughead where we find out Widmore used to be one of those "others" soldiers. I remember during the "Put it down, Widmore" scene, everyone in the room was like "WIDMORE?!?!" Not that I had any idea why at the time, haha.

So last night's episode was pretty cool, I was a little confused by one thing though during the two "Three years later, three years earlier" plots going on. Did Sawyer jump forward in time to have that all happen, or is this really a flash-forward three years out of his life that he actually waited? After all he did look different in both plots.

Well, it seems Kate, Jack, and Hurley have been found... now we just need Sayid and Sun's whereabouts. And of course, the elusive Claire.

Though I heard that (Spoiler:) Claire won't be appearing this season at all, she'll be back in season 6.

Season 6 is also supposed to be the end...

It looks like Sayid is reunited with the crew next week... unless he isn't and is in a remote location with a story of his own. Can't wait to continue Locke's story...

I think it was mainly a, this is what happened right after Locke disappeared/left, and 3 years later when the oceanic 6 came back, this is what was going on.

I liked last nights episode, I can't wait till the love quadrangle starts up again /sarcasm

YES a Lost thread!! Well done Zak. I honestly think that this season has been pure gold so far. I've loved every single episode (especially the one where Jin came back! <3). We've got this week's to watch hopefully tonight/tomorrow, so I guess I'll have opinions on that shortly. I'm glad it's a Sawyer episode though. I love Sawyer.

Oooh and the Locke episode (forget the name) was AWESOME. It was sooo cool seeing his journey back, and then the conflict between Ben and Whidmore (however the fark that's spelled). And even though Ben strangled Locke, I still like him! I mean wtf. I just think he's a brilliant character - not afraid of the greater good. *does Hot Fuzz impression*

This entire season has been fantastic so far.

The only things I can't stand - Jack/Kate. She's useless and as stupid as two barrels. He's excessively whingy. WHO CARES KTHNX.

Poor Charlotte dying. She didn't exactly do anything to deserve to die. I wonder if Farraday is going to try do whatever he can to save her. Being in the 70s is also quite awesome.

I'm also concerned for Rose/Bernard.

But on the entire show, the mystery I want solved is: WTF is with Cindy and the kids? Why didn't they go time hopping too? Why are they others now? Etc.

ALso, if you can bring back any dead character from Lost, who would it be? My pick is for pretty Boone.

maybe...thats when she was like "I've seen you before, you told me to leave the island, and never come back" which boggles my mind cause..yeah, he just saw her as a little girl in the last episode. This show makes my head hurt sometimes.

I think this season has started off kinda week after how awesome season 4 was but it's finally starting to pick up. I do like how Sawyer is starting to take a central role in the story again after being kinda in the background for a couple of years. Also Kate needs to die.

Couldn't agree more Peter! I really love Sawyer, he's my favorite character. Now that Kate is back she's going to start a whole bunch of drama. I didn't used to like Juliet, but I like her this season, and I think her and sawyer are way cute together.

Because she's treats Sawyer and Jack both like shit. Stringing them both along and using them when its convenient and shutting them out when it's not. She's also really retarded about the whole baby thing. Juliet while I didn't like at first has really come into her own this season. I hope her relationship with Sawyer continues.

I totally adored Sawyer/Juliette last episode. SO CUTE. Favourite part was when Sawyer leaned over her to answer the phone - it was just such a natural thing for him to do, bless.

Stupid Kate, coming back and ruining everything! She'd better not start causing trouble again, just after Sawyer's gorgeous getting-over-people speech.

As for the bringing back of people? EKO! Damn it all to hell, I want my Eko back so he can carry on smiting people with his jesus stick!! Eko was awesomeness incarnate.

Well that is part of her character kinda... she's seems cool and really sweet, but she's actually a bitch on the inside that does what she wants. Remember her back story? She has no shame in killing someone and then tying up all the loose ends and covering it up really well, and simply being fake in every flashback we've seen. I kinda enjoy having someone like that in the cast. She made the beginning interesting.

I'm sure at some point that whole thing with Jack and Sawyer will clash and come crashing down. They've been saving that, no doubt. I know it's been long enough... but it is about time.

Plus we don't even know what she did with Aaron yet, so can't really judge.

i think this season has hurt my brain more than any previous season, by far. hopefully they explain why some of them didn't go back in time. it also seems like young ben might already know about the oceanic 6? O_O it was nice to finally meet kelvin's pal radzinsky too.

Im pretty sure they did go back, that is why the dharma cages are there. Also I think the building Christian was in was Jacobs cabin.

Ooh I really enjoyed that episode! I love that Ben was there as a child - it explains all that mysterious knowledge he had about the crash survivors! I love how they're giving us tiny bits of info, piece by piece. Aah Lost, how I do adore thee!

Also: yay Sayid was found! And why isn't Sun back in time too!? Maybe it's cos she had a baby? Who knows.

Might of just disproved myself , but the runway the plane landed on seemed similar to what the others made Sawyer and Kate build. Which means either Sun, Frank, and Ben are not in the same time as Sawyer, or Kate and Sawyer were rebuilding it.

Trailer/pics from the next ep show Kate is deciding whether to save young Ben or f*ck the whole world up. I saw the teaser and Jack and Juliet are arguing. She says 'we didn't need saved by you'

She did. Silly Charlotte. I wonder what happened to Daniel in those 3 years. Did they say and I missed it or is he one of LOSTs many mysteries for the time being.

They say you "can't change the past".

I think one of the following:

-Ben will survive, immediate help will somehow be seeked and he'll get lucky.
-Ben will die, get put in a coffin on some plane which lands on the island again, a la Locke and Christian.
-Sayid just pulled a Biff Tannen and created an "alternate present" for himself, Kate, Sawyer, Jack, etc, like in BTTF part 2 and the future will be different. But the stuff in the present will stay as a subplot and won't implode, like an alternate reality. You can't change the past from there, but you can change the past from the past but only those who do so from that past will be in a different future. So then, Sayid's gonna be like "Oh, fuck, why did I do that" and then find a way to go back in time and not do that so they can restore their present.

See but Daniel never explained why they can't change the future. He just said they couldn't with no reasoning behind it. So I don't really see a reason why they couldn't change things. Maybe we'll see next week.

I had forgotten just who it was that said the thing about the past. Okay, new semi-theory:

Ben's alleged death in the past, as well as his reaction to Locke's mention of Eloise Hawking, are related. This isn't a "changed" past. The old Ben we know, is aware of this death.

Daniel has a centric-episode this season so I'm assuming he is alive. My guess is he is in a different time somewhere.

Also VERY keen to learn the how and why of Christian and Locke's rebirths.
