In a secret underground chamber, a strange Pokemon race exists. More mysterious than Mew, more powerful than Lugia. Their strength unbelieveable their power unstoppable their identity unknown. Something like that they said in a trailer for the third movie. In fact, in a Finnish TV commercial for Mewtwo Returns they accidentially talked about Unown as well.

#200 Misdreavus
The first pure ghost type, it fires off a mean shadow ball in Colloseum, but stat-wise it's actually not all that great. Misdreavus looks like a female ghost with long flowing hair and a necklace, however can be either male or female. When exposed to the Dusk Stone, Misdreavus evolves into Mismagius.

204 PINECO

Generally found by headbutting trees, Pineco is in some ways the GSC Voltorb. Complete with tendency to blow itself up. Building its levels enough causes it to turn into a weapon of mass destruction. For some inane reason, Pineco is a Bug-type and not a Grass-type, despite being a fricking pinecone.

205 Foretress

The Fortress of the bug pokemon world. This was one of the first bug pokemon I saw from the second generation and though that might actually be decent as a huge defense /slow beatdown which actually looking kind of cool at the same time.

#206 Dunsparce

Sometimes mistaken for a Normal/Flying type, Dunspace is in fact pure normal. According to its pokedex entry it can fly, but only a little, it can even learn Roost naturally. Dunsparce is also famous for being capable of one of the most annoying strategies possible, Serene Grace exploitation.

207 GLIGAR
An interesting type combination. Ground and Flying means lots of cool TM attacks. Although they kinda avoid both types in its natural moves, perhaps we just have to tolerate it because it's really an interesting type combination. In the anime, we had the Gligar Man ep with the superhero. And there also was or is a TPMer named Gligar_Man who used an internet joke of "Soup?" in his polls.

208 STEELIX

One of the more desired new evolutions after it was announced, it's Onix after being traded with a Steel Coat. It's still not that useful - Onix was never a useful Pokemon, and neither really is the evolution - but it's still both streamlined and gigantic, giving it high points on looks. It was almost a GSC theme: "Looks cool, doesn't do much."

#209 Snubbull

Tough guys wear pink, and tough pokemon are pink apparently. Snubbull made its debut in Pikachu's Vacation, the short that played before Pokemon: The First Movie. It was one of four second generation pokemon that appeared in either the short or movie.

210 Granbull

This is the most ugliest thing I have ever seen, it looks like it is way off balance and its head it too big for his body. I mean seriously who would want one of these?

211 QWILFISH

In Japan, there is a dish called fugu, made from blowfish. At one point this dish was responsible for many deaths, since there was only a small portion of nonpoisonous flesh usuable. (Now the blowfish used are specially raised to be nonpoisonous.) I wonder if they do the same in Johto with Qwilfish.

212 SCIZOR
There was an exceptionally awesome Johto episode with this Pokemon. One of my friends thought the Scizor was named Hikari but I thought it was Tikari (Finnish for dagger).

213 SHUCKLE

It's so cute! A little turtle. Its only weakness in the GSC generation was Water, I think. Nevertheless it was super duper cute and kinda tough to capture. Oh and its defense and special defense were AMAZINGLY high, and its attack and speed were shitty.

214 Heracross

The big blue bug of a pokemon, in GSC it was on fo the hardest pokemon to catch because you had to go from tree to tree constantly headbutting for one single pokemon. Besides that this pokemon is pretty powerful and will kick ass in any team.

#215 Sneasel

A pokemon with sharp claws, giving it a decent attack stat. Its evolved form, Weavile, has an even higher attack stat, so I guess it must have even sharper claws. In Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, Sneasel can be used as a partner pokemon.

216 TEDDIURSA
The only Pokemon I can think of that reminds me of a president of the USA. As a comparison, there's only Empoleon that reminds me of Napoleon. To be realistic, I don't think there'll be Obamark or something in the future. To avoid talking just about politics in the whole post, I say Teddiursa is adorable, too.

217 Ursaring

A giant big brown bear which can fell trees in a single swoop. In the game this pokemon was sort of useful as a big hitter but I never really used it for anything.

218 SLUGMA

GSC really had a miserable mix of Pokemon, didn't it? Either they looked cool and sucked or looked awful and weren't that bad. Slugma fell into the latter category - not bad as far as Fire goes, but really not a looker. Then Magcargo switches back into the former type, and another Pokemon goes into the ashbin.

#219 Magcargo

Its name derives from escargot, but you certainly wouldn't want to eat it, nor would you want to eat Magcargo. Magcargo gains an unfourtunate rock type after evolving from Slugma giving it a double weakness to water and ground attacks. But it makes up for that awful typing by... actually it doesn't really make up for it at all, making Magcargo a pretty mediocre pokemon, as was typical with many Second-gen pokemon.

220 Swinub

A cute little burrowing pokemon which is sooo cute and can kick ass. Swinub were still pretty hard to find I had to look for ages in order to catch it. But after I did I found it had quite a good combination of moves and looks.

221 PILOSWINE
This Pokemon is as good as blind because of its shaggy coat that covers its eyes. But thanks to its sensitive nose, it can still check its surroundings. Yes, it does look kinda funny.

222 CORSOLA

A fish that looks like part of a coral reef. Apparently the branches are how it gets its food. As a Water/Rock type, it manages to avoid some of the inherent weaknesses of both, but it's a little too defensive to be utility. Still, it looks cute and isn't inherently useless like so many of the GSC generation.

223 Remoraid

It's first image surfaced made it look like a blue Magikarp with a jet. Which is funny since it evolves into something red while Magikarp evolves into something blue. Ever realize that? Yeah... also it's technically part of Mantine in the same way that Shellder is part of Slowbro, after all it is in Mantine's sprite. The anime kinda shafted it, it was introduced in some weird episode involving some artist and a giant crystal and aurorus borealis, then later on in the Whirl Islands it was pushed to it's limits and then I don't remember it showing up much...

224 OCTILLERY
Octillery spits murky ink, and I bet it can draw better than Misty's Horsea in 'Tentacool and Tentacruel'. Speaking of the anime, Octillery debuted in 'Octillery The Outcast', a Whirlpool Cup episode. [OFF-TOPIC]Guess what? I believe those eppies were skipped in Finland! I wanted to see Ash VS Misty!![/OFF-TOPIC]

225 Delibird

This is one of the funniest pokemon in the game, with one of the most random attacks (bar Metronome) the attack has a chance to deal little to loads of damage but also a chance to heal the target. Stat wise Delibird isn't all that great buts its comical value makes up for it.

#225 Delibird

Has anyone ever noticed that Delibird's pokedex number is similar to 12/25? I just noticed that! It gives me something interesting to say about Delibird other than it's useless in battle. Another thing is that oddly enough, they introduced this guy after a Christmas special of the show aired and only Santa Claus and his Jynx helpers were shown at the north pole, if it was just one generation later Delibird would have been the perfect pokemon to focus on in that episode.

Gah, OK Mantine it is then

Mantine is one of the few pokemon that has another attached to it, the other two being Slowbro and Slowking. Mantine evolves from Mantyke when Mantyke is in a party along with a Remoraid. A pretty clever evolution method and kinda makes you wonder why they didn't do this with Slowpoke in the first gen. Oddly enough, after Mantyke and Remoraid "merge" to form Mantine the Remoraid is still around as a separate pokemon.

227 SKARMONY
Now what is more awesome than a Steel/Flying Metal Bird. A Steel/Flying Metal Bird. Almost like Heavy Metal. Come on, its armor doesn't even prevent it from flying superfast. I think the most memorable Skarmony from the anime appeared in the 'The Legend of Thunder!' special as a Team Rocket Pokemon.

228 HOUNDOUR

Finally, a new Pokemon that doesn't suck irredeemably! A Fire/Dark type, Houndour has good speed and a decent palette of Dark-type moves, making it an efficient anti-Psychic weapon. Plus it manages to look utterly awesome in both its basic form and as Houndoom. One of the few members of the GSC class that isn't an underperformer.

229 Houndoom

A cool looking pokemon with an awesome name, how could not like this pokemon with its skull like decorations and its affinity to fire. With it being a dark type as well just throws more fuel on the fire making it even better.

230 KINGDRA
I remember Kingdra looked super cool in the third movie, but when I look at it on my Pokedex book, the new look by Ken Sugimori is a bit strange. After Seadra evolves, it gets Dragon as a type addition.

231 PHANPY

Awww, lookit the little elephant. Phanpy is just adorable in so many ways. It has a modicum more fame than your standard GSC Pokemon, as it's the stage before Donphan, who famously appears in the opening of Pokemon: The First Movie.

#232 Donphan

Yup, Donphan was the last of the three Gen 2 pokemon introduced in Pokemon: The First Movie. Unlike Marill and Snubbull however, Donphan was introduced in the movie proper as opposed to the preceding short. Also, Donphan wasn't referred to by name, it was simply shown battling Ash at the beginning, getting taken down by Squirtle's Water Gun.

Won't lie. Seeing Donphan do a Sonic Spin was all I needed to sell me to get G/S. That was a high point in Pokemon anime for me, lol.

Porygon2 is kinda badass. It has incredible staying power. And its completely manmade and upgraaaaaded ! Note: Porygon was only Red and Blue-While Porygon 2 was made to be shinier to fit in with the new gen.

...and we're back to the lame-ass filler Pokemon. Essentially the GSC answer to Tauros, except nowhere near as badass and even less useful. Insert your own Santa Claus joke here, this is just scrap.

#235 Smeargle

Smeargle, the pokemon who can learn any move (with a few exceptions). Despite this awesome capability, Smeargle isn't all that useful due to low stats. It's few uses include catching wild pokemon (using Swords Dance/False Swipe/Spore/a blocking move), as a Baton Passer, or to sport a pretty gimmicky moveset involving Spore, then Lock On or Mind Reader, then a OHKO move.

236 TYROGUE
This Pokemon shows the connection between Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan. Before GSC came out, I used to think Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan are two Pokemon with no common evolution history, but I was wrong. Tyrogue has naturally only Tackle, Helping Hand and Fake Out so we could call it a baby Pokemon, perhaps.

237 HITMONTOP

Balance Tyrogue's Strength and Defense perfectly when it reaches Level 20 and you get this... thing. In all honesty, you're probably better off with -chan or -lee. Capoeira deserved a better Pokemon than this ugly whatsit.

The pre-evolved form of Jynx, this infantile Pokemon's lips contain nerve centers like secondary brains, allowing them to recall tastes, sensations, temperatures, and vibrations independently of the Pokemon's brain. Smoochum uses these highly sensitive lips much as a rodent would use its whiskers, allowing it to interact with its surroundings through kissing alone."

239 ELEKID

During the development of G/S, Game Freak ran out of ideas for new Pokemon and could go two ways - invent awesome evolutions of existing Pokemon or shitty pre-evolutions of existing Pokemon. They chose the latter. It took them another 2 generations to rectify that error, thus inexplicably leaving Pokemon like Elekid in the middle of the national dex while its evolution is at the beginning of it and the evolution of that at the other end.

#240 Magby

Magby, a second gen pokemon, evolves into a first gen pokemon, who evolves into a fourth gen pokemon. Magby was the last of the seven preevolutions introduced in the second generation. It wasn't until two generations later that we saw that many preevos again. Perhaps the biggest joke related to Magby in the run-up to GSC was the fact that its Japanese name is Buubii (yeah, like boobie).
