Well we did have Diamonds and Pearls found in the Safari Zone allowing people to either recieve two basic DP Pokemon upon its release, or a first stage DP Pokemon. Maybe incorporating key items would allow for the uncovering of legendary Pokemon?

There is loads of way to incorporate non-battling-skill in the Safari Zone, but it may teeter on RPG, which I know some people aren't keen on.

I honestly feel legendaries in our ASB would be a privelage; a gift. Maybe if someone can earn all the Gym Badges in our ASB they would deserve a legal legendary.

Obviously this is all if we decide to pursue it. TBA I'd be keen to hear what your unarticulated thoughts are...when you articulate them :p

My main concern is that if legendaries were incorporated, someone that had one would be tempted to use it all the time. I'm not saying that anyone will, but it would be a possibility.

In most cases, it's the same if someone has a 2nd stage like Charizard or Dragonite. I doubt people would use a Pokemon like Zapdos or Entei against a small stage Pokemon.

I'd use a Mew against a Charmander, but not use any Super-effective moves for the entertainment of it.

EDIT: Or how about it's a puzzle you have to solve in each zone? And each zone has a certian Legendary that's there (save for the really rare ones, Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, ect)

It sounds interesting. But like I said, bordering on RPG might not be a good idea. I really like the idea of a legendary being the reward for being nominated into the hall of fame. But it must happen sparingly!

No I mean a different sort of set up. A place where we can honour the best members of our community, voted for by members of ASB. There's one in fanfic. It can be for fantastic reffings, moderating, or an all-round great contributor. I imagine this hall would perhaps have someone voted in four times a year or something.

This idea sounds idiotic to me, frankly. You're either gonna wind up with like 1 Legendary being given away every six months, or a truckload being given out left and right. That and limiting some Legendaries but not others kinda totally destroys the purpose of Legendaries existing. We might all agree that Mesprit and Raikou and Regice suck, but they're still Legendaries just the same as Mewtwo, Kyogre, and Lugia.

This whole set-up just seems crooked as all Hell. The only idea that sounds half-decent is the Safari Zone idea. Handing out Legendaries based on popularity or Awards is senseless and is just going to annoy people. This is ASB after all. Anime Style Battling. And in the anime, Legendaries were sought out long and hard and they were caught. They weren't given to Contest winners or Trainers that got certain Awards.

Blade makes a good point about the accessibility of the Legendaries. in a way, Chris and Blade's points parallel because neither wants to see Legendaries just given away. RP in ASB pushes it toward ASBRPG...which to my knowledge is dead and gone.

However...maybe in a random Week, a Legendary appears in the Safari zone somewhere? That way people could rush to the Zone to try and find it. It would happen once every 6 months, making it a super rare event. You may not catch it, someone might beat you to it, it might leave... who knows? (That sounds awesome in my head, but again, it runs that line between ASB and RPG ASB)

However, one problem with this is as you say Blade. Why ban any Legend? Maybe we wouldn't ban any Legends, but we wouldn't have those Legends that are obviously more powerful than the standard Pokemon come around but once a year? I doubt many people would rush out for a Mesprit-but hell, if Ho-oh showed up, I'd be hard pressed NOT to want to try to find-follow-and catch it-even if I didn't want it. Just to have it would be awesome.

I agree it may be a far stretch. But the anime, manga and legendary tournament have all pointed to the fact that, despite Blade's wise words, legendaries don't all fall under the catagory 'LeGeNdArY'.

I like the Legendary Pokemon showing up in the Safari Zone at random idea. Though I've never been there myself, I think it should take someone who has a certain amount of points, and maybe a few gym badges.

I love gyms. My only problem is that the Legendary Pokemon are location spesific (sp? ) and need certain items to summon them. While we don't use items in ABS, say someone who has won the Hall of Fame or whatever gets a Time Flue or whatever you need to summon Celebi.

They take it to the Safari Zone. They use it. A Celebi appears somewhere in the Safari Zone for say a week. Or comes and goes through random times.

It'll feel strange catching a Mewtwo in the Safari Zone, I'm sure he has better cooler places to be at...

And maybe there should only be one of these puppies in circulation. Like only one person owns a Mew. They can release them, or give them away, but no two people can have the same lengendary...

I like that idea HL. Even though the Legendaries have been shown to breed (how, I won't get into) there should only be one of each... but I'm sure Mewtwo would probably be secluded in a new Saf Zone or something.

Safari zone is basically like a roleplaying game in itself, no joke, while Im reffing it I feel like Im leading a DnD campaign for one person XD I think in the saf zone having RPG-esque elements isnt really a problem since thats kinda like the essence of the saf zone itself.

I enjoy the Safari Zone very much and I agree that it is an RPG sort of place.
However, I have to say NO to the Legendaries. This is ANIME Style Battling. If you can't own Legendaries in the anime (ignore the Battle Frontiers...they're arses) then you can't own them here. Plus, a Legendary would look a little bit...out of place in my team.

Well the thing was in the Anime.. people DID have them, even before Battle Fronteir. I think they'd be a nice addition so long as we do some hard thinking before introducing them to the world as a general ability to Aquire.

Which actually brings up another interesting idea, what if (assuming legendarys are added) you can only use one under certain circumstances. Like in the anime you could own a pokemon without having all the badges but that doesnt mean it would always listen to you. What if you had to prove yourself worthy of it before it even let you use it?

Anyway, after reading all of the posts up until now, my thoughts are as follows: Legendaries ought to be super-freaking-rare and super-freaking-hard-to-get. If we decide to implement legends, I think we should make it so the person in question has to get a certain amount of gym badges - doing so nets them the ability to see legends in the Safari Zone. They catch one legend, and that's it - they can't get any more. And the capture rate on legends should be appropriate too; they should realistically only be able to be caught with Ultra Balls, unless the randomizer is really nice.

Thats understandable. I'd be interested to hear it; in my height of power I was always careful not to blur the lines between ASB and RPG, particularly after we flat-out refused to collaborate with the ASBRPG muck Roy wanted. So ultimately I'd be dissapointed if there were features here that were too much like an RPG.

Also TBA's idea is a good one. I like that. I did think that perhaps after earning a certain number of Gym Badges, you were given a special Pokeball that could be used to capture legendaries should they appear in the Safari Zone. But TBA's idea is cool.

What about there being like a 1/100 chance of a Celebi or Manaphy hatching from a Wonder Egg? The anime has shown it, after all........?

I agree that ASB should NEVER become what the bastardized ASBRPG was, I wasnt here during its height but I never saw the reason of having one when asb was right here. But really is light rping like what me, ben, denny and even darkness do on occasion really that bad? Its not taking up pages and pages, its most of the time barely a paragraph. Hmm, on the idea of the possibility of having legendary Pokemon appear in the Safari Zone if a certain number of badges are collected, I strongly agree they should only be possible to capture in an Ultra Ball, but, like in the games, I strongly think the following other factors should come into play first, for anyone who may find one there someday, that hopes to catch it.

-the legendary should be at 10% health (and roughly 10% energy) or less in order for it to stay in an Ultra Ball. The less health and energy it has, the longer it should stay in the ball.

-paralysis, sleep, or freeze should be inflicted before attempting the catch, in my opinion, I'd prefer any of them over poison or burns.

You guys agree with me on one or both of these points?

Ideas for attaining and using Legendaries in the TPML.

Legendary Pokémon are only available in the Safari Zone, during certain times of the year.

1)Only one of every Legendary totally
-There are NOT two Mewtwo's for example.
2)Can only be Caught with an Ultra Ball
-They're legendary! Duh!
-However I do like Hypno's idea of needing a special Ball after defeating the Gym Leaders before going hunting. Probably a Master Ball without the high-catch ratio, the Legendary still needs to be battled and weakened in order for the ball to work.
3)Only one Legendary on a team.
-While it's tempting to have multiples (I would like two, specifically), I think a single Legendary on the team will help stop everyone from having multiple Mews, Celebi's, and Azlef's. (Although a Rayquaza would be cool... ^^U)
4)New Areas in the Safari Zone
-Some Legendaries may show up in specific areas, while others could show up... ANYWHERE! But we could have some new zones open up because of...well, a lot of people exploring it.
5)Rarity
-Legendaries show up depending on time of year
-Migratory
- Make it a specific yearly event where the Legendary shows up for about a week in the Safari Zone depending upon what seasonal event that legendary would be tied to (New Years for Jirachi, Anniversary of TPM or TPML with Celebi, Winter solstice for Articuno, First day of Winter for Suicune, ect...)
