Is the e-reader worth it?

I'm still not even clear on what the e-reader actually does in the game. All I hear is speculation about what it may do in the future (give items, unlock unobtainables, etc). So is it worth it or is it a waste? And what the heck use is it really?

Now, the E-Reader does practicly nothing, just let's you fight a battle-tower-like battle, with no reward. I've heard somethig about an E3 Eon ticket card, but I don't have any information about it. An E-Reader might be a good investment in the future, as I've seen what apears to be a Japanese E-Reader that can link to another Gameboy (Before only the american one could do this.) So nintendo might release more Pokemon related E-Cards. And you always have those old NES games to use it for.
