In other news: Gabi's drawing the starters and Blade is drawing the two legendary birds, but I felt like drawing *something* and so there's this. (Would've drawn trainers if I had any confidence in my ability to draw humans; I'm working on it, but I'd rather practice on my own instead of giving anything substandard to the revival effort.) I know it wasn't part of the original plans but eh, there's probably some place you can tuck it in. If you think there's any place for it anytime soon then I can clean it up, color it, etc., maybe draw Raikou and Entei if you like.

Ho-Oh I'm proud of, considering I've never drawn the thing before.

Lugia, on the other hand... Well, for both of these guys, I was going for "Look at how majestic I am." poses. Lugia to me seems to be in more of an "IMAGINATION" pose.

Lugia's legs need to be fatter and shorter. Those are like greyhound legs. Also, his 'thumbs' are too rounded and small, they need to look less like thumbs, basically. I also think the tail looks too long and tapers far too quickly, the stump of the tail needs to be fatter and it needs to taper more proportionally. Feet need to be wider I guess and the spines on his back need to be slightly more rounded and they need to be slightly wider at the top.

Ho-oh looks pretty damned good for an alpha sketch, although the wings and tail feathers need to be more majestic and bigger, especially the tail feathers. The claws could look more threatening, they're looking a bit to chicken-esque for my tastes.

I think both birds need to be a bit fatter, perhaps a bit pot-bellied.

Overall, good for first sketches, can't wait to see the redoes.

Yeah, I've seen the official artwork, as far as Lugia's concerned it's a bit too thin Ho-Oh is harder to tell because the only artwork for it is usually when it's seen Flying.

This one took me a while, but I think it came out rather well. I've even tried some serous shading (which, in my case, means using many layers and dedicating a couple of hours to the shading process).

Partly because it's from you, and partly because my best hopes included something along the lines of "hey, that came out quite nicely, we can work with it". Hearing someone say it looks like (or better than) official artwork was far beyond my expectations.

I winged by here to take a look and was super suprised! I just love that Totodile- It looks just like the real deal.

And those Alpha sketches- coming along nicely. Ho-Oh looks just about perfect, and I like how you've colour coded them ^_^

OK, so Lugia needs:

-shorter, thicker legs
-larger 'thumbs,' perhaps splayed like in the SS artwork
-shorter, more uniform tail
-wider feet
-larger breast
-rounder, broader spines


And Ho-Oh needs:

-larger, more grandiose plumage
-more wicked claws
-SLIGHTLY larger breast


Done and done. Working on them right now. We WILL not disappoint. *salute*

Beta sketches of Lugia and Ho-Oh are up.





The changes are subtle, but I like Lugia's body shape more now. You were right, Heald: It does look more natural.

Ho-Oh is even more subtle, but the wings are a bit broader and the tail is definitely longer. It looks sideways while the rest of the bird is a 3/4 view, but I can fix that in the paper-computer transition. The crest is also a bit more shapely.

I can't draw for jack but I can call them like I sees 'em. Lugia definitely looks a lot better.

I still think Ho-oh's wings could be grander. I think the upper plumage is too thin, especially at the shoulders (it starts out thin then widens out, I think it should start wide, become slightly wider in the middle and gradually become thinner at the wing-tips). The lower plumage ought to be more or less exactly as long as the upper plumage above it is.

I take it by "upper" you mean the red feathers and by "lower" you mean the green ones.

OK, I'm leaving Lugia as it is. That being said, here's the final sketch of Ho-Oh:





Ho-Oh's wings are large enough to support it in flight now. The tail has also been tweaked a bit. The excess feathers will be weeded out during the linework phase.

The wings look more uniform and better shaped now. They just look a bit unnatural now, somehow. Overall though, looking good.

I haven't been able to do much recently in the way of the banner, I've been busy. I had Exams recently. I'll start working on it again tonight.

OK, OK, gimme a couple of days... They're lined in on MSPaint. All I gotta do is color and shade them.

I'll do Lugia first, since it's mostly white already anyway. It shouldn't be much trouble to color it and get it up by the morning.

Damn cold has kept me stuck in bed a lot, but the horse tranquilizers antibiotics have gotten me back on my feet. And back into MSPaint. Ho-Oh is DONE:




It's hard to shade something that generates its own light, but I think it looks alright. It better considering how many times I've restarted the shading process.

Here's Lugia and Ho-Oh in better quality. Dunno why, but Photobucket just LOVES to besmirch my work with jagged, irregular-ass pixels. If you full-view them on dA, they'll look less shitty. Whoever's making the banner, use those. Not the distorted ones Photobucket gave me to put here. I'm sure Gabi shares the sentiment.

I am currently doing a 3D Model of the Johto Pokedex for a friend, if you guys want I can send you high rez pictures of the model for the website.

I plan on doing the pokedex as the next big project for the site. You know, as soon as I find the time between helping with the planning of my grandparents' 50th anniversary and my sister's wedding :/.

Anyway, something like that would be a cool pic to add to the page, maybe I could even make a pokedex-specific banner out of it.

Okay Jeff I guess my next question would be what color do want them in, Red with Black buttons? Pink and White? For the screen would you want a Map of Johto on it, or multiple pics with profiles of the the starters on it. Mind you I can make as many textures as you want since it is only like a two second change, so we can do multiple different versions of what is shown on the screen and the color of the device.

If you could do both, one open one closed, that's what I'd like. Since it's a pokedex, it makes more sense to have the pokemon entries, yeah I know the map is a reference to the location page, but it's easier to make the pokedex-pokemon connection than it is to make the pokedex-map connection.
