Team Ico do Awesome again - Last Guardian

Okay, so this is sort of old news for me, but the HD trailer for Last Guardian is out, and maaaan, I wanna play that bloody game.

"Team ICO is led by famed game designer Fumito Ueda. Ueda, being scheduled to speak at this years GDC back in March, had fans awaiting some type of announcement. However nothing was shown. When Ueda was asked about the upcoming project, he had this to say…

The Japan studio bosses are here so I can’t say anything specific, but it might be something similar to what’s been done. … The essence of the game is rather close to ‘Ico.

Up until now, the only image that has been released about Team ICO’s next game is a single image of a chain hanging down what appears to be a well. Today we help lift the curtain off of this project a bit and shed some light on what Fumito Ueda has been up to these past few years and as you will see, it is rather close to ICO.


This is very early footage the next game from Team ICO. As with most early footage you can expect graphical enhancements for the final product. Some of these elements, such as the main character, or scenarios you see here may not make the final cut."


And this is the later trailer from E3 = [here] It has extended footage, the main character-guy has different clothes on and I think that the graphics on the big guy are better.


I officially want one of the griffon/eagle thingies. Absolutely freaking adorable!


Urm, so far, we think that the game will be along the lines of looking after the eagle thing, and that there'll be some sort of conflict involved. It's unclear what the world will be like, but I'm willing to bet it'll be similar to Shadow of the Colossus and be pretty much uninhabited.

Ack, I knew ICO sounded familiar, that was one awful game a decade ago. Last Guardian looks graphically stunning, which is nice but not of importance ... unfortunately the game also looks utterly uninteresting. From what I see I smell a game where you have to solve puzzles upon puzzles.

Nah man, Ico was an awesome game! But Shadow of the Colossus was even better. That game's totally epic. I think I'd steer clear of the whole franchise if you don't like puzzles. It's sort of their big thing, you know? The thing with Shadow of the Colossus was that, even though there wasn't a single person in the world to interact with, it didn't detract from the game itself. If anything, I think it made it better. So I think that Last Guardian will probably be along the same lines.
