You're thinking too much about it, Brian. I just clicked on 'update user ranks' and set it to the default option which was updating chunks of 1000 members. I didn't choose which ones would get picked first.

Good work on bringing the Pokeballs back! Although, after reading these last few pages I'm still confused as to why:
- Some people have big balls and others have small (lol)
- Why it's a choice as avatar, but that erases the avatar.
- Why PancaKe has 7 balls, when a Master Trainer should have 6
- Why some people have their default rank as well as their custom title, and others don't.

That's what I've been saying for at least 5 years.

EDIT: I also suggest that the post icons be changed to what they once were. The cureent ones, used since TPM was a vB, are designed for a white forum layout and look really crappy having white markings around them. Also, the old ones had more colour and just looked cooler.

They were the UBB ones; I'm sure you can track them down pretty easily.

I can't track them down that easily, and I have a lot of work to do outside TPM which I've been sort of neglecting lately, so I would appreciate it if someone would show me the images you want me to use, be them post icons, pokeballs, smilies or whatever they are.

...And updating user ranks takes a VERY long time (I started last night and the script hasn't finished yet), so please, make sure you have decided which pokeballs you want before asking me to change them again.

The only reason why Tara has 7 pokeballs is because I put the image in her custom title. It's not her rank.

I don't mind them; my problem is that they aren't as bright (yellow: the default emoticon colour) as the classic ones; in addition, they have a white outline on them and look shit with a black/gray background. It has always made me uncomfortable. If someone is willing to fix it, then go right ahead!

I reiterate shazza's earlier comment. Those icons are designed for a light-colored forum, which is why they have the fuzzy white halo around them. The ones shazza found are actually scheme-neutral, as they don't have a halo-like border around them. Mind, the icons don't all match up properly; shazza's group doesn't have a regular frown, for example.

I could probably take a whack at editing the current icons to remove the fuzz, but I also agree I like the bright and crisp images that you've discovered. We (or you) would just need to find a normal "sad" face as that's the only one that doesn't match up to one of the current post icons.

Still, I'll take a quick whack at trying to neutralize the current icons…

I found these from TPM in 2001; you may recall them, Mike. icon9.gif would never load, and what I could observe were depressing threads whenever it was used, so I presume that was the sad face.

While we're on the topic of replacing post icons because of white halos and nostalgia factor, we should probably do something about the other generic images around the forum. Most notably the Topic editing icons in the lower right of each post, the instant messenger icons under poster info, and the new topic/post reply buttons. Nostalgia or no, the halos make them look horrible in any case.

Of course, on the topic of nostalgia, it's nice to have active admins again.

EDIT: Also, are we through discussing hierarchal differences now or are we just going off on a tangent? I think people got distracted by the shiny Pokéballs…

And I've only just realized I had my Firefox set to lower the size of everything on TPM. That's why all the icons looked tiny to me. They look a lot better now.

Hrm, well I suppose unless people have serious complaints with it, we should implement the new (old) post icons when it's possible. Everyone I've talked and read seems to be liking the changes going on. Also, someone should be assigned to finding/editing/creating buttons and icons that look better on the darker backgrounds and that (hopefully) return some more nostalgia to the board.

A new topic is my choosing now, huh? Well then, how about since the Pokéballs are coming back, we get back on track with the coloration of mods.

With the Pokéballs back, the moderators will soon be seen as different by the number of Pokéballs, thus eliminating the need for coloration or bolding or possibly both. Maybe if it becomes too similar and people can't tell anymore, we could change the Pokéball images to be those of Great Balls instead (with Super-Mods getting Ultra Balls, and Admins getting Master Balls).

EDIT: Mind, I still like the coloration/bolding of names, I'm simply throwing this out as an idea to appease those that are vehemently against it.

I remember almost 9 years ago, when i used to end every post of mine with the 'lance' smiley. he was looking all cool, with purple hair, oh that lance.

I agree shazza should have smaller balls than everyone else...

but more to the point, i suggest a 'POWER WEEK' where each of us takes it upon themselves to help get the forums 'back out there' to the pokay community. id love more than sex, for this place to become half as active as it once was.

so yeah, power week. but with a catchier name.

Oh I see…I went to reply to get the names of the current post icons and see that the new ones simply got added. I was thinking actually replacing each one with the corresponding "UBB" icons. That way all the current topics will have their icons replaced, plus the default will change to the UBB "Note" icon.
