Re: Final Fantasy: Darkness Descends
Selene Solidor
Selene landed somewhat gracefully on the ground; she held the crouched position for a moment longer then necessary. If that thing was going to eat her, she didn’t want to see it, something about viewing a whole bunch of teeth just before death didn’t quite appeal to her. Thought with the resounding, ground shaking stomps that seemed to be moving away from her, it seemed Shayna’s plan had worked well. Of course, in that time Selene had learned her own fiery glare could contend with a behemoth.
She was proud of herself, but knew she better get back to saving the poor ninja’s ass.
Shayna had done the oh so unwise thing of taunting a massive, purple, mohawked creature who was half blind and probably very very angry. Selene found herself sprinting to try and catch up with them, but it was no use. Even if she did catch up with Shay, exactly what she was going to save her was BEYOND imagining.
“Alright…” Selene huffed, looking around the destroyed road. “Need a plan…”
“Kweh!”
Selene slowly turned, behind her; to her astonishment was a chocobo. A little rough looking; with a dead Ivalician soldier still hanging on its saddle. It looked at her pleadingly, as if wanted to be rid of the bloodied corpse. She approached it quickly but cautiously and undid the man, watching him fall to the ground with a thump.
The bird let out a happy coo and lowered itself to allow her to mount.
Selene smirked.
“Why did you go so fast?” Her mother frowned, bandaging the little girl’s arm gently. “Didn’t father tell you to take it easy?”
Selene didn’t understand the caution so many people had for chocobo’s. They were fast, faster than the old horses and strange mechanical contraptions Dr. Cid came up with. What was the point of having such a fast animal if you never let it reach its potential.
“I don’t like to go slow.” Selene huffed as the bandaging was finished. “Going fast is better.”
Her mother smiled gently. “Slow and steady wins the race.”
“Pheh, only if you’re a hare with ADHD.”
The behemoth was coming up fast, this particular chocobo, while looking rough around the edges, could go quite fast. Selene smirked, holding herself low and close to the birds body as it leapt clean over a ditch and hopped on and then off a couple of ruined tanks. It moved up, pacing itself accordingly before it was directly next to the creature’s face.
“Ready…?” She shot a nasty glare over at the creature. “Choco-kick!”
The yellow bird understood perfectly, and suddenly pivoted on its foot and jumped at the Behemoth’s face. Both its feet smashed hard into the creature’s wounded face, forcing it to barrel to the side and crash head first into numerous buildings. It let out a mangled cry of despair before it fell silent in a huge pillar of smoke and dust. Shayna slowed to a stop, panting and trying to catch her breath as the ‘Chocobo Knight’ leapt over to her.
“Come on,” Selene offered the girl a hand she hastily took, and sat on the back of the bird.
“Is it dead?”
There was a very thunderous, very angry growl that emanated from the rubble, just as it started to move.
“Aw damn.”
As the bird took off, with two people on its back, the creature burst out from underneath the rubble. Selene cringed as pieces of building and rock careened down around them and they were forced to take very abrupt, very evasive maneuvers.
“LEFT!” Shayna cried, holding on for dear life as a hunk just barely missed them as they swiveled in all directions. “RIGHT! LEFT! RIGHT! LEFT!”
Then there was oh wonderful feeling of the ground shaking and the air turning hot as some giant monster of destruction raced to catch up.
“Must go faster…” Shayna pleaded, moving closer to Selene to what the gunner assumed was, to avoid the closing in teeth. “Must go faster. Must Go Faster! FASTER! FASTER!”
The chocobo squawked unhappily as a couple of its tail feathers were taken in a too close for comfort bite.
“FASTER WOULD BE BETTER!”
“No backseat driving!” Selene countered, and felt herself pale.
Up ahead was a bridge.
Only the middle was missing.

Because all chase scenes need a bridge jumping part. TAG
