I've reffed a match in ceb's gym. I ooh'd at parts. I ah'd at others. And I rolled this insignificant thing about which move was more effective and which move was less effective. The really weird part is that this is the strategym, where apparently, coming up with strategies is supposed to be more important. Instead, the gym focuses on giving random benefits to players using more sledgehammer-style strategy.

You want something strategic, try this one. Modification of this and the Liar's Damage, presented here.

At the beginning of each round, each player states a number. That is the amount of damage they believe their opponent will be dealt. For example, I might say 20, while DL might say 30. Then, we choose to either accept or deny that damage. I'll accept DL's 30, while DL will deny my 20. The round is then held. There are 4 possible cases
1) I accepted DL's 30. He dealt me less than 30 damage. Therefore, he takes 30 damage and I take 0.
2) I accepted DL's 30, and he dealt 30 or more damage. Therefore, I take 30 damage, and DL takes 0.
3) DL denied my 20, and I dealt him less than 20 damage. I take double 20 damage (40) and DL takes 0.
4) DL denied my 20, and I dealth him 20 damage or more. DL takes however much damage I dealt him.

There you go. Something with actual strategy. Also, the rules stay the same through the entire thing. No random switching.
