You head down the road even further, running this time trying to find out what is happening. Up ahead you see a big glob of purple goo which you see is a Muk. Yet moving away from the Muk is a bunch of large eliptical foot prints heading down the road and they look fresh.

After that little bit of confusion, you get Raff to shine like a big ol' lightbulb as you and your Pokemon descend into the rock wall. The slope gradually takes you downward quite a ways until the only light is the eerie muted glow stemming from Raff's flower.

When the path finally levels out, you find yourself in a tiny stone room. A single table and some upturned chairs litter the cramped space and, upon the wall in chalk, you see the words Cronus Cave Complex written. The walls and ground are strangely damp. Hrm... what could be down here that scared Tangela and Grotle so bad?

Looking around the dark space, you see a couple of passageways that stretch on into blackness. So there are other rooms, then? In the shadows, you see a couple of shapes scurrying; you make out the watching eye of a Magnemite and the steady gaze of a Bronzor, but these Pokemon scatter when you look at them. In the corner, a tiny Skorupi peers at you and then runs off through one of the passages.

This place gives you the heebie-jeebies.

You bolt for the shrine, and get to it unscathed. A Drifblim is over the shrine, trying to mess with the object already on it. You get Mary to shove it away as you set the Vulpix's Tail in the largest groove at the base of the tablet, and one of the steel feathers in the indent at the top part of this ancient tablet. It glows an odd turquoise color.

You then hoist the Keystone into the center indentation, and then grab that skull you looted earlier. It fits in a oblong indentation to the left side. Lastly, you see one area to the right glowing red. Its a spherical shape.....

Kit and Mary notice the ceiling shaking, as if its ready to give way to something....large.

Booster shoots a fireball to the water, rustling up a few Barboach that were hankering down in the mud and silt. A Staravia lands on a rock near you and looks around hauntingly.

Buzzer scrunches up her faces and lets out a shrieking wail. The noise echoes through the distant chambers as she tries to map out the entire complex, but the distance is too great. However, she is able to communicate to you that an Electabuzz is waiting in the next room. You severely doubt that one measly Electabuzz struck such terror into Tangela and Grotle, but it's good to know what's coming up anyway.

As you enter into the next room, Raff's glow leading the way, you realize that the Electabuzz is asleep. Phew, how convenient. You tiptoe past the Electric thingy and, looking down, you notice the Skorupi from before is back... this time with company. Two Skorupis are now peering up at you with those little beedy eyes of theirs. You stare back and they scuttle off into the darkness. Weird.

Once again, Buzzer uses Supersonic to echolocate the next chamber... without waking up Electabuzz, fortunately. Through a series of gestures, she reports to you that there's a Shinx and a Wormadam sitting in there, but you're pretty certain that, like Electabuzz, they're not the real terror lurking down here.

As well, Buzzer informs you that in the corner of the room there's a... Spinarak. Ugh. Because apparently you haven't gotten your daily quota of annoying-ass spider freaks yet.

You avoid the attention of Shinx and Wormadam, both of whom have their backs to you as you enter the next chamber. You see large gouges in the walls and the air suddenly carries the hanging stench of... something. You don't recognize the odour immediately, but it's not pleasant.

Once more, the Skorupis are here and peer up at you before scurrying off. Trying not to attract the attention of Shinx and Wormadam, you approach the Spinarak in the corner and ask him what the 411 is. However, the little spider hisses and lunges at you with an attempted Bug Bite, but la Bella pulls you out of the move's path with her lengthy tail. Spinarak then says something and runs off into the darkness.

You don't know what the spider said, but your Pokemon certainly do and they share uneasy looks. With her hand, Raff spells out the Spinarak's message in the dust on the ground.

"Must inform master..."

For whatever reason, it's only then that you notice the red smear on the wall. Uh. Crap.

Not taking anymore notice of the Gabite you move on through the mist, suddenly something zaps you and you spin around finding nothing. You keep walking and another zap rocks your body, this time you find the cause. An Electabuzz is negatively charging the mist around you creating small shocks.

As the not-especially-frightening duo (it's a Shinx and a Wormadam for Pete's sake... ooooh...) makes its approach, la Bella quickly acts by firing off twin flashes of light. The pulsating beams strike their targets, leaving the pair of Pogeys unable to tell up from down. They begin ramming themselves into a wall and leave you free to skip on off into the next room...

...and down a flight of stone stairs. Ouch. As you and your Pokemon pull yourselves up off the ground after that nasty spill, you clasp your hands over your nose as you notice the horrible stench down here. You don't recognize it in the least, but it's unimaginably foul.

The Skorupis are back and peer at you once more before scuttling off. Mhm, okay. You also notice... oh shiiit. No less than fifteen Spinaraks cover the ground, led by the one earlier. They hiss at you in unison. Daaamn.

In this moment of terror, you have a realization: If the stench is so strong down here, does that mean whatever frightened Tangela and Grotle could be waiting in the next room?

What's happening....


Feeling adventurous, you take your Ultra Ball and set it on the last slot. Suddenly the ceiling opens and a massive amount of white light fills the cracks around you. Taking a second look, you realize that you are standing on a dias of some sort, with a purple center. It flashes in increasingly faster intervals til *whoosh* you're gone in a flash of light.

You reappear in a sandy place, standing on a similar dias. Your Pokemon are still with you, and up ahead, you see the ruins of a very large temple. It still stands hundreds of feet in the air, and yet, its almost as if it's just a small part of something bigger. As you walk off the Dias, and around this long since abandoned temple-pillars half buried with sand. you notice something walking around quietly.

Some adventures are just a little too hardcore. With the Spinaraks incapacitated, you and your Pokemon spin on a dime and get the fuck out of here. You run past the Shinx and Wormadam, past the slumbering Electabuzz, past the Magnemite and Bronzor... and into the sun and daylight. You suck back great gasps of fresh, clean air. Relief.

Panting, you and your Pokemon collapse on the ground, exhausted and parched. Grotle and Tangela are still here, you realize, and they peer at you. You guys share a look that speaks to camaraderie and shared horrors. Doubt you have to worry about them stealing anything of yours anytime soon.

Time to close the book on this chapter of your Safari Zone quest. As you return Raff and Bella to their respective balls, you hop aboard your trusty Flygon who flies off into the wild blue yonder! You get a brief scenic glimpse of the entire Zone as you hug your arms tight around Buzzer's neck. Soon, your steed spots her destination and begins her downward descent.

When you dismount, you call your two other Pogeys out and look out over the pond. Next to a rather short pier, a shack with an assortment of complimentary fishing rods sits beneath the sun. On the water, a couple of Surskit and Farfetch'd float around sleepily while, on the shore, a Sentret and a Rattata seem to be arguing about something.

And that's Skinny Dip's pond for you.
