I'm sending out my male Slowpoke, who has the Own Tempo ability, and my female Luvdisc, who has the Swift Swim ability.

Before I put in moves, can I ask the ref about the Swift Swim ability? Since we are all underwater, would that be active at all times, or only during the rain, which at that extreme depth would be completely unnoticeable?

Slowpoke, use Curse, followed by two Zen Headbuts to the Shellder.

Round 1
The four pokemon are released from their poke balls simultaneously, and each of them mark their targets for battle. Luvdisc, the heart-shaped box pokemon's ability activates, increasing her speed greatly [ @200% Spd Luvdisc ]. Luv uses her newfound speed to create a few clones of herself underwater, but the water still flows through them, essentially making them useless [ -6PP Luvdisc ]. With her opponent trying a bit too hard to focus on clones, Izumi is free to confuse her with a psionic attack [ +25% Con Luvdisc / -4PP Izumi S. ]. Franky, meanwhile, targets the slowpoke and... yawns? Weird... Slowpoke responds the same way, signifying tiredness [ +25% Tir Slowpoke / -2PP Franky F. ]. Slowpoke just closes his eyes and focuses, sacrificing his already less-than-stellar speed for bulk [ -10% Spd, +10% Atk, +10% Def, -3PP Slowpoke ].

Luvdisc, slightly confused, remembers what she is meant to do and sharply darts over to her shellfish foe, kissing his shell sweetly. This has an effect you'd expect [ +25% Con Izumi S. / -2PP Luvdisc ]. The shellder thinks nothing of it and summons a forcefield around herself and Franky, upping their defense tremendously [ +100% Def Team MLG / -6PP Izumi S. ]. Franky, meanwhile, begins gathering energy bit by bit [ +50% Stk, -3PP Franky F. ]. Finally, last to act is Slowpoke, who begins swimming as fast as he can (which, unfortunately for him, isn't very) and slams into the shellder [ -5HP Izumi S. / -5PP Slowpoke ], dealing the first blow this battle.

The final act of round three begins with Luvdisc swiftly... not doing anything at all. Locked in confusion, the luvdisc becomes unable to act whatsoever. Izumi, fighting the urge to latch onto that tasty slowpoke tail, instead returns his foe's damage by firing off a concentrated beam of three different elements: fire, ice, and lightning. The torrent of delta energy collides with Slowpoke, who doesn't really notice the pain until a few moments later [ -8HP Slowpoke / -5PP Izumi S. ]. Franky continues to stockpile energy [ +50% Stk, -3PP Franky F. ], while Slowpoke headbutts the shellder one more [ -5HP Izumi S. / -5PP Slowpoke ].

The first round is complete, and Slowpoke feels his eyes getting heavier and heavier [ +50% Tir Slowpoke ].

Izumi: Whirlpool on Luvdisc, trap it! Then Rock Blast on Luvdisc, finish with Tri attack again, this time on Luvdisc.

Franky: Stockpile if you can, then sludge x2 on Luvdisc. If stockpile is maxed, then Yawn on Luvdisc first turn.

Luvdisc, use Bounce to get out of the Whirlpool's range. Then use Aqua Jet to hit the Shellos from behind. Follow that up with an Ice Beam to Shellos' face.
If you get trapped by the Whirlpool on the first move, start firing off Swifts at the Shellos until you can escape.

Slowpoke, start off by Mimicing the Whirlpool, targeting the Shellos. Then use Iron Tail on the Shellos, followed by an Earthquake.
If you fall asleep, start spamming Sleep Talk.

PS: I didn't know you were allowed to use moves from every generation. This shatters my entire universe.

Round 2
Luvdisc lies in wait as the shellder begins circling around her. Faster and faster, Izumi manages to create a swift vortex that engulfs the heart-shaped pokemon, but she flashingly defies logic and shoots her body upwards, avoiding the trap effectively [ -4PP Izumi S. / -5PP Luvdisc ]. Franky, meanwhile, swallows some more energy [ +50% Stk, -3PP Franky F. ] while Slowpoke, now asleep, murmurs to himself before disappearing from his side of the pond, reappearing behind Franky [ Teleport ].

Luvdisc, now a few feet above the rest of her opponents, completely forgets what she was doing for a second until she is pelted by several small beams of rock-based energy by Izumi [ -3 + -3 + -3 + -3 + -3HP Luvdisc / -8PP Izumi S. ]. The pelting is immediately followed by Frank's toxic gunk [ -7HP Luvdisc / -5PP Franky F. ]. Slowpoke, last to act once more, continues his mumbling. He focuses on Izumi and she becomes none the wiser--

Before the shellder can even act, he is struck by Slowpoke's own Tri-Attack [ -12HP Izumi S. / Me First ], leaving her confused for a second. She shrugs off the attack before aiming right back at the luvdisc, firing off a similar collection of elements [ -8HP Luvdisc / -5PP Izumi S. ]. The luvdisc responds by shooting off an ice beam at Franky. The ice beam has a weakened effect in the warmer water, but impacts against the shellos easily, causing the first instance of damage for him for the battle [ -4HP Franky F. / -6PP Luvdisc ]. Franky again responds with a sludge attack [ -7HP Luvdisc / -5PP Franky F. ]. Slowpoke is the last at bat, and summons another icy attack to envelope the shellder. Once again, the warmer climate causes the ice to have a lessened effect [ -7HP Izumi S. / Blizzard ].

Finally, last at bat once more is Slowpoke, who has been sketching down his partner's ability in his mind and slowly learning how to use it [ -5PP Slowpoke / -Own Tempo, +Swift Swim / @200% Spd Slowpoke ].

Luvdisc then spends a few minutes trying to woo her foe by batting her eyelashes and swimming in circles, only for her charms to have no effect on a sexless doll [ -3PP Luvdisc ]. Slowpoke, meanwhile, who's sailing around the water so fast you may as well call him "Fastpoke" fires off a concentrated beam of elemental energy at the shellfishmon [ -8HP Izumi S. / -5PP Slowpoke ]. Izumi shudders off the attack and then pulls out a similar clone to Franky's, creating I. Shinu [ -15HP, -5PP Izumi S. / +15HP I. Shinu ]. Franky, meanwhile, ends the second act by slamming his body into the smaller heart-shaped fish, knocking the wind out of her easily [ -8HP Luvdisc / -5PP Franky F. ].

Luvdisc stares down a shellder and attempts to lull it into confusion, but that ultimately fails as well [ -4PP Luvdisc ], while Slowpoke hits the doll with another tri-attack, knocking the doll's health down by half [ -8HP I. Shinu / -5PP Slowpoke ]. The real shellder counters the tri-attack with another series of rock blasts [ -3HP + -3HP + -3HP + -3HP + -3HP Slowpoke / -8PP Izumi S. ] while Franky nearly shatters Luv's frame with another body slam [ -8HP Luvdisc / -5PP Franky F. ].

The third round ends, and Team MLG's protective barrier dissipates.
