I think I'm in the haterade camp for that new DW art.

Holy hell I got gripes with a lot of them. First off, the whole set in particular. It looks like they're trying to make every Pokemon say "Hi" to the viewer... and give off some nice vibe, and I'm not feeling it.

Where do I begin. Ok from the back.

613/614 looks like it had a snotpunching bag and now its a frozen snot beard and that's disgusting.
577-79 is the most hilarious set of evolutionary pictures I've ever seen.
Ugh most of the DPP set suffers from that "Oh Hi! " look the drawings have been given. Riolu especially.
Rampardos's head is pointy....weird.

Duskull looks completly Down Syndromic.

I will say this. Its brighter. The brightness isn't the issue. Its -for me-the cartoonified look. The original Sugi art has this psuedo-realism to the drawings that made them eye catching to me (but they were dull) This new style is well...ugh reminds me purely of Looney Toons, Now, I can get behind it, since some of them are alright like Drifblim and Maggy (Maggy is doing it right).

But for the most part, like Golem? WTF man.

Now to to jump on the banner debate I use Sprites since they take up less room then the artwork of course if I had to use art work I would use the artwork of the Trading card Game.

I beg to differ. The Sugi art was drawn and colored in a way to accentuate the creatures strengths and unique talents-in concepts we can associate with-hence the realism aspect. You don't get that sense of core, monolithic power from a Golem in the new art, as you do with the old art.


Hate Golem......Golem may be a bad example.


Riolu may be better. New Riolu is like "Hey I'm a wily Coyote!" Old Riolu was like "I'm badass, watch me Judo chop!" I felt like it was more of a Fighting Type without knowing ANYTHING else about it. i

n the new art, I'm like "Ok we got a wily kid character approaching. Will he be friend or foe!"

Rather agree with DL on this.

The DW images are... cartoony and annoying. While Pokemon is a game first, anime second, and few attempts at realistic looking Pokemon have been done (some pretty well), they're fantasy creatures that are best expressed as art. I enjoyed the official art, that was gritty and had depth. Not cell-shaded cartoon stills.

I want Pokemon to look epic, with depth to character and personality, even the predatory ones. Not 2-D stills that make them look chummy because the games attract a lot of kids.
