I really like FMA, Gundam SEED and House of the Five Leaves.
Watching Darker than Black now, though.
Partially for the sake of recommendations, but also just to see what people like...
What are some of your favourite animes? What are some of your favourite mangas?
For me... Liar Game, Gantz, One Outs, Mahou Sensei Negima, Monster
[14:48:30] .:- Steampunk Angel -:. {{I love Ben}} says:
oh chaos your awesome lol
I really like FMA, Gundam SEED and House of the Five Leaves.
Watching Darker than Black now, though.
Some of my favorites, excluding 2 of the big 3 out there, include Battle Angel Alita, Black Jack, Rave Master, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and, at the current moment, Zatch Bell.
Pretty much every "big" anime prior to Naruto (DBZ, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, etc.), as well as some darker stuff. Hellsing and the When They Cry series' are some of my favorites.
Oh, and of course all the insane hentai deserves mention.
As does Cowboy Bebop. Cowboy Bebop is ALWAYS relevant.
Higurashi and Umineko no Naku Koro Ni, Naoki Urasawa's Monster, Uzumaki, Bleach, FMA, D.Gray-Man...in other words, stuff that's guaranteed to give me nightmares!

A lot of stuff to list here, just finished watching Zero No Tsukaima (all 3 seasons), it's pretty damn funny.
Revolutionary Girl Utena, Konjiki no Gash Bell, Serial Experiments Lain, Pokemon, Digimon Adventure and Cardcaptor Sakura.
I really haven't moved on from the anime I was watching 10 years ago.

Dude, you were the dumbass who was pissing us all with your "game", you've lied to us, spammed. (yes you have) and utterly annoyed us, you big, fat hypocrite.
Oh I miss you Calaveron
I have to mention at least these 9 when it comes to my favourite animes and mangas.
Pokemon
I still love it. I remember the early Kanto eppies with tears of joy in my eyes, remember the disappointment when my country skipped the Orange League. Johto was fun, too, at times, on the other hand, I placed too high exceptations on Hoenn. Sinnoh was an improvement in my opinion. What else you can expect from a Finnish winter person who wants to go to Hokkaido?
Sailor Moon
Call me gay, call me whatever you want, but can I really be one if I enjoy watching underaged girls in miniskirts. I even left TPM once partly because I was so obsessed. My obsession really exploded when I associated Mizuno Ami with my third big love from Haapavesi high school!
Digimon
I'm addicted to the music from the anime, in both Finnish and Japanese, even in Chinese! At first, I thought the anime was a cheap Pokemon copy but after some years, I learned to like Digital Monsters!
Dragonball
I have all the manga albums published in Finland in my possession. The anime hasn't been easy to avoid, but I somehow can't watch it.
Neon Genesis Evangelion
I just had to have every single episode in tape when they showed this in Finland. Even the hour wasn't an obstacle, it was shown in midnight. I also own some manga.
Yu-Gi-Oh!
I never really learned to watch the TV series, but the first 6 manga albums were the real deal. I don't know whether or not I should call myself a fan, given this little base.
Death Note
Apart from the pilot part, I have read the whole manga through and am very found of it. I also know the anime, but haven't watched it enough yet. Maximum The Hormone is insane in both good and bad way.
Naruto
I like both the manga and the anime. I know the flashbacks may be boring sometimes, the jutsu explanations dull and confusing, but somehow Naruto has touched me deeply.
Bleach
My dream came true when they began to translate this manga into Finnish last autumn. Gathering the albums was sadly interrupted by my hospital period, but fortunately they re-published some of them and one day I'll buy them all.
Now what's strange and annoying is that in TV anime offering is currently a lot worse than the manga offering in bookshops here.
Code Geass, Yu-Gi-Oh, Bleach and Fairy Tail.
Even though i didn't watch a big chunk of the original Yu-Gi-Oh series i like 5ds and Gx.
Well there are many anime and manga that i like but i wouldn't go as far as to name all of them my favourite, with Naruto being a perfect example. It's good but since i've only made it somewhere on the second season and on the 4th volume of the manga i can't put it yet in my favourite list.
Favourite anime:
-Pokemon: No matter how repetitive it can get, or how many people don't like it, the show has a special place in my heart for several reasons one of which is that it was the main reason that i got into anime/manga in the first place. I won't stop following it till its very end.
- Death Note: A huge obsession of mine, especially back a few months ago when i first watched it. In one word: Epic
- Rurouni Kenshin (both manga and anime): The second reason i got into anime, Rurouni Kenshin was, is and will always be my no 1 favourite manga series and maybe anime as well despite the horrible and completely useless end and the huge number of fillers. The music in the anime is superb.
- Tegami Bachi/Letter Bee: My current addiction an anime about a crybaby boy XD I have yet to finish the first season but i will as soon as possible since the second has already been announced for the Winter.
-D.Gray-Man: I was hesitant about it in the beginning but i fell in love with it. A show that can make you care about its characters even if they appear in only two episodes. Not to mention the amazing plot.
Favourite manga:
-Rurouni Kenshin: As said before this is my no 1 favourite manga and in my opinion the best shonen that was ever made. Watsuki's drawing style is inspirational to me and i hope can reach him some day, while the characters and the overall plot is nearly perfect.
- Tegami Bachi/Letter Bee: As much as i love the anime, the manga is something i prefer. It has a fairytale atmosphere that unfortunately the anime somewhat fails at delivering. I firstly read the manga and then watched the anime. I had high hopes for its transition to screen but some things, even if some of them are of minor importance, just didn't seem to work right leaving the anime with a sense of something that was missing, which i somewhat believe is the whole fairytale feeling.
Death Note: I haven't read a single volume yet but since it is pretty much the same with its television counterpart it already has a spot among my favourite. Not to mention that the 13th volume gives a lot of extra points.
Other stuff that i like:
- Shaman King (i've only read the first volume so until i know better of it i can't judge it, but it is surely something i enjoy reading)
- Yu-Gi-oh!
- Pokemon (various versions)
Hm... I've seen a few animes, mostly pretty mainstream yet iconic stuff. Maybe I can go through some of the things I've managed to keep enjoying...
Gundam
Gundam has come in many forms over the years, and generally very enjoyable for me. There was a time where Gundam actually fell off my radar, but I blame myself. Watching the second half of Gundam Seed followed by Zeta Gundam followed by the first few episodes of Seed Destiny ruined the experience a little for me (makes me partly glad V Gundam hasn't been dubbed yet). After getting myself to finish Seed Destiny (and enjoying it after the point where I left off) and then getting into 00, I found myself right back to being the Gundam fanatic I had been. The draw for me was usually how cool the designs were, or the power of their weapons. The music usually being awesome helped. I'm looking forward to the release of Turn-A Gundam, whenever that happens (yes, it has finally been licensed! Just ZZ, V, and X to go...)
Sailor Moon
I'm not entirely ashamed to admit I liked this series, though the dub of the first two seasons was pretty grating. Nothing like hot girls kicking ass, though, right?
...Well, okay, maybe those are the only two I have commentary on. Others I've seen that I like or have enjoyed: Pokémon (yes, I still watch it), Lucky Star (...what, it's funny), Bleach, Inuyasha (haven't seen Final Act yet), FullMetal Alchemist (not watching Brotherhood, though, or any reruns of the first FMA; just too much for me...), Dragonball/DBZ/GT, .hack//, Slayers.... *thinks* ...I guess that's it for now. There's some other stuff I plan to watch soon that I think I'll enjoy a lot.
i have lots of favorite anime but i choose hunter x hunter and yuyu hakusho..
What are they about?
Yu Yu Hakusho is like DragonBallZ, but instead of super-strong aliens, the villains are demons and the protagonist is a guy who died but got a second chance as a spirit detective with a gun that he shoots bits of his own soul with.
Pretty much I generally hop around anime, but my favorites are Code Geass, Bleach and Yu-gi-oh 5ds (not really a fan of the original or Gx...).
I liked the original Yu-Gi-Oh a little...and then I started reading the manga. I've never looked at Yu-Gi-Oh the same way since.

I prefer the original Yu-Gi-Oh! as well, preferably the anime. Why? Well, even though 4Kids version was pretty goofy, silly and cut a lot of "non kid-friendly" stuff, I like how they translate death from the manga into getting banished into the Shadow Realm. Now, what would you prefer: dying or having your soul trapped in an unknown realm full of monsters and demons with almost no way out whatsoever. I'd think I prefer dying, thank you 4Kids. Thank you for making death look like a walk in a park being compared to what is essentially the Yu-Gi-Oh! version of being kissed by a dementor.

OK. Sorry Junior.
I live Samurai x, Bleach and One piece..
Live them, eh? Must be really devoted to your Japanese cartoons.
I wish the dubbed version of Rurouni Kenshin that Hulu has wasn't so awful.

Dragon Ball Z is my favorite anime series and now i'm going to watch some DBZKai episodes. what are doing right now?
Replying the the obvious spambot.
Hrm.
Anime:
Ronin Warriors/Yoroiden Samurai Troopers:
Are you kidding me? I've written over 30 fanfics about this series. I loved it when it came on at 7:30 on SCI-Fi back in the 90's. Back beofre they ruined dubs, this was the shiznit! I still have yet to own this series, I should get this for myself as a Christmas Gift, its one of the last Anime's I love that I've yet to own. Hailo was the buisness!!! Getting hyped already....
Sorcerer/Bakuretsu Hunters:
Another classic. Weird thing, I was always ready to see what trouble Carrot got into, forget Tira and Chocolate (and srsly Japan? Every damn Anime has to have food names? Really? Thought I prefer the manga to the anime...
Yuyu Hakusho:
"Like DBZ" my ass. I feel Yuyu had more heart in the first three seasons than DBZ did. Mystical psychobabble aside. That last season...ehh...I feel the writers just kinda said "Ohhh let's flip it on them, and..." err well if you go see it I dun wanna spoil it. :O But I still enjoyed it very much. Unique powers, and no bleeding into each other abilities. They stuck to their own!
Final Fantasy Unlimited:
Ok I'm not a huge FF fan, but hot DAMN this was awesome. Random guy with a gun shooting summons and being all cloaked badass about it. No; awesomesauce with gravy and chicken nuggets dancing in its wake! Only disappointment? It was super short, like what 20 ep's or some crap. I got it on VCD, should rewatch again.
Serial Experiments Lain:
Creepy, dark and awesome. Nothing else matters in this anime and I love it. Lain is great.
I'll always have a spot for Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z
Manga:
Sorcerer Hunters, Pokemon, DB/Z and Sailor Moon manga all go here.
Harlem Beat/Rebound:
I don't play basketball. I don't like sports really. But for some reason, when Mixxzine brought out Harlem Beat in the late 90's. I was hooked. This story is a great step into the worlds of street ball and school hoops. I haven't yet finished Rebound, I've haven't the time or funds, but I'm starting now and I'm gonna start buying them 3 books at a time.-Just picked up books 3-5, 25% off sale since Comic Con is going on now. Its gonna be a very tempting weekend.
Azumanga Daioh/Crayon Shinchan/Magic Knight Rayearth 1 & 2 and Megatokyo:
All great fun comics-yet for the first three I did not watch the anime because I did not feel they would be as awesome as the manga.
Shaolin Sisters 1 & 2:
A very low key series. Really fun, great storyline, but not as much exposure as I'd expect.
Real Bout High School:
The manga series is fantastic. The Anime pissed me off, and I insta-deleted it cause it just.. yeah it demonized my beloved manga. But yes, to extrapolate. Kendo fighting badass chick, sign me up please. The antics of Shizuma in the manga was fantastic to read-really great fighting writing there..
Whew. I got a bunch more in my brain, but those are the best ..to me![]()

Well I haven't read too much manga or seen too many anime as of late. For the most part I've stuck to old faves as they finally got new seasons/updates. If I had to pick three anime however here's what I've enjoyed in the past year or so:
As for manga:
Yeah I know......Scott Pilgirm is not a manga in the traditional sense. However it was influenced by anime/manga/video games in general and is one of the ones where people seem to know only about the movie. If nothing else at least give the first two volumes a shot. Plenty of action/humor that reminds me of Dragon Ball before the Saiyan Saga.
Bit different from what I normally read but a great manga nonetheless. Manga Fox did have everything in the first series up originally. However since Shonen Jump/Viz started to release it in English they've been forced to take it down. Early chapters are more humor based (before getting far more serious later) and have your typical enemy of the week format with an overall story/evil group that stretches over the whole thing. Besides there's something amusing about seeing a teenage girl being the number one asskicker in the group XD
Just do yourself a favor.......read the manga as opposed to watching the anime. The anime changes too much IMO and goes for a more humor based story overall. Plus it actually did the impossible.....it somehow managed to stick too many panty shots/fan service into a single anime. Sure that may sound fun for the guys but believe it or not it actually gets distracting (episode one of the second season infamously had 100 PLUS). It got so bad that even the creator feels it's too over the top.
Sorry Rudy but to me, the second video says it belongs to Funimation and Death Note belongs to Panini 'in my country', so I can't see them. I can't even make it out what anime is in the second Youtube clip.
Nevertheless, what you say about both reading manga and watching anime is right. At least if I got what you meant.
