Since DL is having what.. 10 single 1 on 1 battles in 1 thread, I had an idea. I was going to wait until 5th gen came out, but I can always do this again when it does.
Only 1 challenger, it's basically a 4 on 4 but it's done in four separate 1 on 1 battles. When one battle is over, the winning pokemon is withdrawn and the next battle starts a new. But to make it interesting, each battle follows the rules of a particular generation. So:
Battle 1 - 1st Gen
Can only use pokemon introduced in the 1st gen (Red/Blue)
Can only use moves from the 1st gen
No Steel/Dark types
No abilities
Moves are their original types/strength (Bulbapedia will list them)
Type effectiveness based on Red/Blue games
Battle 2 - 2nd Gen
Can only use original pokemon introduced in the 2nd gen (Gold/Silver) (No evos of previous pokemon)
Can only use moves from the 1st + 2nd gen
No abilities
Moves are their original types/strength (Bulbapedia will list them)
Battle 3 - 3rd Gen
Can only use pokemon introduced in the 3rd gen (Ruby/Sapphire) (No evos of previous pokemon)
Can only use moves from the 1st, 2nd + 3rd gen
Can only use abilities introduced in 3rd gen
Moves are their original types/strength (Bulbapedia will list them)
Battle 4 - 4th gen
Can only use pokemon introduced in the 4th gen (Diamond/Pearl) (No evos of previous pokemon)
Can only use moves from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd + 4th gen
Can only use abilities introduced in 4th gen
Moves are their original types/strength (Bulbapedia will list them)
Battle 5 - 5th Gen
Can only use pokemon introduced in the 5th gen
Standard rules apply
So, anyone up for it? You'll need a pokemon form each gen.
I'll call for the first battle, you attack first. After that we swap for each battle.

Question, for Gen 2, that means no Espeon/Umbreon?

GENERATIONS BATTLE
RAZOR LEAF v. PAPABOPP
oooO Oooo
BATTLE 1
Round 1
We enter the standard Indigo Plateau arena and, my god, we're all pixelated. How swell. Challenger Razor Leaf is the reason for this! He smugly releases his drowzee, Morpheus, into the battlefield. The underdog, Papabopp, summons Sandshrew as a counter and the battle begins!
Sandshrew begins by creating a life-like doll of himself to distract Morpheus, using his own health as a focus [ -15HP, -5PP Sandshrew / +15HP Sandstitute ]. Morpheus pays it no mind, and instead meditates [ -3PP, +10% Atk Morpheus ].
Morpheus, using his newfound strength, rushes violently towards the sand-substitute, causing considerable damage to it [ -9HP Sandstitute / -6PP Morpheus ], while Sandshrew merely sharpens his claws [ -5PP, +20% Atk Sandshrew ].
Morpheus body slams the doll once more, causing it to dissolve in a stream of sand [ -6HP Sandstitute / -6PP Morpheus ]. He looks at the real Sandshrew with fury before being knocked off-guard by a powerful earthquake [ -12HP Morpheus / -7PP Sandshrew ].

Bastard you stole my idea.
Oh well, I'm gonna watch this. I dig the retro sprites and old movesets. It's all coming back to me...

BATTLE 1
Round 2
Morpheus begins the second round by emitting a powerful flash of light that affects Sandshrew's vision [ -10% Acc Sandshrew / -3PP Morpheus ]. Not wanting to leave anything to chance, Sandshrew fires off a volley of swift stars that home in on the tapir and scrape across his body [ -8HP Morpheus / -4PP Sandshrew ].
Sandshrew then creates three clones to keep himself protected for a few more moments [ +75% Eva, -6PP Sandshrew ] while Morpheus merely emits a venomous collection of gas that sweep across the arena, disabling two of the clones quite easily [ -25% Eva Sandshrew / -3PP Morpheus ].
Sandshrew then finishes out the round by spitting off a glob of his own toxins. However, with his vision altered, his attack completely misses as Morpheus manages to sidestep it [ -5PP Sandshrew ]. The tapir takes another step back before striking Sandshrew with a series of elemental blasts [ -9HP, -50% Eva Sandshrew / -6PP Morpheus ].

BATTLE 1
Round 3
Sandshrew begins act three by kicking dirt into what appears to be a pint-sized version of a drowzee [ -2PP Sandshrew ]. No one has the heart to tell him this [ -15HP, -5PP Morpheus / +15HP Substitute ].
As Sandshrew continues to defeat a non-thing [ -8HP Substitute / -4PP Sandshrew ], Morpheus lifts up the little mouse with his mind and throws him towards the ground [ -9HP, -10% Spe Sandshrew / -6PP Morpheus ].
The third act continues in nearly the same fashion as the second, with Sandshrew subbing stars that never miss with a venomous poison that continues to do no real harm [ -5PP Sandshrew ]. Morpheus just lathers, rinces, and repeats [ -10HP, -10% Spe Sandshrew / -6PP Morpheus ].

Without access to any Dark moves, I'm starting to remember just how powerful even a weak Psychic type was back in Gen I...

Star
Ala

Egg and Jynx? I think that's all of them. Prolly missing some low key one....

Exeggutor, Jynx, Slowbro, and Starmie weren't that troublesome because Fire, Grass, Electric, and Rock attacks would devastate them.
The pure Psychics - Alakazam, Hypno, and Mr. Mime - were the true hellspawn because nothing was super-effective against them. The only offensive Ghost move (Night Shade) did preset damage, and the only offensive Bug ones were learnable only by Psychic-weak ones like Venomoth, Beedrill, and Golbat. Jolteon learned Pin Missile, yeah, but the weakest Bug attack in the game on a non-STAB Pokemon isn't really a threat compared to Alakazam's Psychic blasts.
Oh, and there were also Mewtwo and Mew. So much rage in Pokemon Stadium...

Round 4
Sandshrew creates a powerful earthquake that completely eliminates Morpheus' substitution [ -7HP Substitute / -7PP Sandshrew ]. Morpheus, however, pays no attention to this and instead lulls his opponent to sleep with a soothing glare [ +100% Slp Sandshrew / -3PP Morpheus ].
With his foe completely zonked out, Morpheus proceeds to devour Sandshrew's dreams [ -10HP, +10PP Sandshrew / -6PP, +5HP Morpheus ].
This happens again [ -10HP Sandshrew / -6PP, +5HP Morpheus ], but this time Sandshrew wakes up! The mouse looks around before poisoning his foe with a deep toxicity [ +3% Tox Morpheus / -5PP Sandshrew ].

For the fifth round, both pokémon begin making preparations -- Sandshrew adds more clones to his repertoire [ +86% Eva, -12PP Sandshrew ], while Morpheus focuses on his physical strength [ +20% Atk, -6PP, -2HP Morpheus ].
When it comes time to attack, both pokémon unload with a series of swift bullets. Morpheus' rip through all of Sandshrew's clones [ -9HP, -86% Eva Sandshrew / -4PP, -1HP Morpheus ], while Sandshrew's just do damage [ -8HP Morpheus / -4PP Sandshrew ].

Round 6
Sandshrew stamps his tiny feet on the ground, creating a massive rumbling that knocks Morpheus off his feet for a moment [ -12HP Morpheus / -7PP Sandshrew ]. The tapir pulls himself back together before body checking Sandshrew into a wall [ -11HP, +25% Par Sandshrew / -6PP Morpheus ].
With his newfound paralysis beckoning him, Sandshrew is unable to move whatsoever, giving Morpheus the edge to hit him with a torrent of elements [ -11HP Sandshrew / -6PP Morpheus ]. The sandshrew dizzily pulls himself back together, but doesn't get a chance to react as Morpheus knocks him out with a powerful submission [ -6HP Sandshrew / -3PP, -2HP Morpheus ].
RaZoR_LeAf wins Battle 1.

BATTLE 2
Round 7
The two first-gen pokémon are recalled, replaced by a pair introduced in the second: Saberhagen sneasel, and Ted skarmory. The two pokémon acknowledge one another before whipping around the arena with lightning-fast speed [ +20% Spd, -5PP Saberhagen / +20% Spd, -5PP Ted ].
Saber, satisfied with his massive speed boost, creates three clones to keep himself protected, but one goes down ASAP due to a renegade blast of venom, compliments of Ted [ +75% Eva, -9% Eva, -6PP Saberhagen / -5PP Ted ].
Feeling secure, the sneasel whips out a powerful blast of cold wind that flows through the arena swiftly. However, Ted's quick-thinking allows him to avoid the brunt of the attack [ -12HP Ted / -9PP Saberhagen ] as he retalliates by destroying the rest of Saber's clones with a swift attack [ -6HP, -66% Eva Saberhagen / -4PP Ted ].
