After that fustercluck of a round, both trainers recall their Pogeys from the soggy battlefield before making new selections. DCM releases a plant-covered lizard creature while Ayeun, on the other hand, goes for a yellow salamander with a fiery tail. Neat-o! Suddenly, two pies come whizzing our way care of DF and Darkly. Cynder also jumps up and heckles but opts not to throw a pie. The desserts strike Amazon, burying her under blueberry and pumpkin goo. When she gets up and wipes the sugary crap off her face, her muscles feel a little stuff. Uh-oh. I think we all know what that means.

Burn: <…>
Amazon: <-18 HP; Par>

Delighted by her opponent’s pie-related misfortune, Burn ambles forward and roasts the Grovyle alive with a chipper Flamethrower. Amazon wails as the fire scorches her mercilessly and eventually manages to bring the assault to an end by generating a series of rocks which come slamming down upon Burn, trapping her beneath their weight.

Burn: <-8 HP; -8 EP; -1 Spd>
Amazon: <-17 HP; -3 EP>

Dazed, Burn begins to squirm her way out of the rocks. Once she’s free, she looks up just in time to see—or, rather, hear—Amazon hacking up some Toxic goo from her belly. Not so fast! Burn throws up an orange barrier that shields her entirely. Hah! Seeing this, Amazon decides to change her course of action by flinging mud at the Charmander. The gunk strikes the Protective barrier uselessly.

Amazon: <-1 EP>

Eat flames! Burn ruthlessly subjects Amazon to a second snaking trail of flames. This time, however, the Wood Gecko Pokemon can’t stop her with more rocks. Her muscles seize up, rendering her immobile.

Pies away! DL and Chaos make some nasty remarks as they hurl pies at both Burn and Amazon. The former takes a cream pie to the face while the latter must deal with a big ol’ pumpkin pie. Mmm. Painfully delicious.

Amazon: <-8 HP>

Knowing that she’ll have to do something tricky if she wants to inflict her foe with a status, Amazon comes up with the cunning scheme to spit a wad of Toxic go while making ramming motions with her arms so as to destroy any Protective barriers erected by her foe. However, her plan doesn’t go quite as desired: Burn throws up a second orange shield which succeeds in warding off not only the Toxic goo but also Amazon’s physical thrusts. The Grovyle stomps the ground forcefully and does a little heckling of her own. Looks like somebody needs a smoke.

Amazon: <-11 EP>

Burn opens wide and delightedly roasts Amazon alive with a wicked Fire Blast. Oh my! As the flames lick away at the Grovyle's grassy frame, they begin to inflict a nasty Burn. Then, without warning, Amazon's body suddenly begins to glow green. Ooh, looks like somebody’s Overgrow is kicking in! Ready to kick some Charmander booty, Amazon takes a step forward to halt her opponent’s assault—but stops immediately. Frig. Paralysis is a real bitch, ain’t it?

Amazon: <-17 HP; Brn; Overgrow; Can’t move!>

Having expended all her actions for the time being, Amazon has no choice but to look on as Burn continues her fiery assault. The heat brings Amazon to the brink of death, but she manages to just barely survive! Woohoo! Celebration time!

Or, uh, wait just one second. Suddenly, the Burn begins to sizzle—and, with that tiny speck of damage, Grovyle crumples <-3 HP>.

DCM recalls his quick-to-fall Grovyle and summons a new Pokemon with a flash of crimson light. A tiny turtle takes to the field, beating his tail against the ground energetically. As our hecklers leap upon their seats to throw pies, Burn and Franklin brace themselves. DL’s pie comes whizzing toward Franklin, coating the wee Squirtle with apple goo. Chaos’s pie, on the other hand, comes whizzing toward… DL? Suddenly, DL’s UltraMod ability activate and the pie stops short in the air. Without warning, it spins around on a dime and goes splat right in Chaos’s face. Somebody get the man a napkin?

Franklin: <-5 HP>

Despite her crippled Speed stat, Burn still manages to get things off to a speedy start. Without warning, ripples of electric current surge around Burn’s right hand. Really? ThunderPunch on a Charmander? Who knew! Skipping forth, Burn slams her fist into Franklin’s shoulder, sending umpteen volts of electricity through the Squirtle. Just when you’d think this would invigorate Franklin into action, he uses this opportunity to… Yawn? Buh? A tiny cloud wafts toward Burn where it bursts upon impact. This bizarre tactic seems to have some effect: Burn’s eyelids slowly begin to grow heavy.

Burn: <-6 EP>
Franklin: <-12 HP; -4 EP>

Fighting off sleep, Burn grabs Franklin by the arms and hoists him up over her head. Woah, look at the guns on that chick! She showboats for the crowd by giving Franklin a needless spin before tossing him into a tentpole. Franklin scrambles to his feet and sprays a steady stream of water into the air. The water bends and arcs into a perfect loop which hangs suspended above the fray. Pretty!

Suddenly, exhaustion sets in and Burn is out like a light, curled up on the ground.

Burn: <-7 EP; Slp>
Franklin: <-9 HP; -4 EP; Aqua Ring>

While Burn sleeps, Franklin chuckles. Oh, it’s on! The Squirtle recedes into his shell before swiftly rotating, unleashing a deluge from the six openings. These aquatic pressure waves wallop Burn with great strength, sending the slumbering Lizard Pokemon skidding toward the open tent flap. She rolls over, still somehow asleep.

Burn: <-20 HP>
Franklin: <-10 EP>

The Aqua Ring releases sparkling waves which coil around Franklin, imbuing him with new vitality <+3 HP>.

Time for pie-lobbing! Chaos grabs a random one off the table without looking. Mmm, blueberry! He lobs it at Franklin, but it doesn’t manage to inflict a status. Come on, pies! Work harder!

Still asleep, Burn leaps to her feet like some kind of charmed puppet. She lumbers toward Franklin, body ablaze with massive flames, before tackling the Squirtle. The attack’s bite is lessened thanks to the typing, but Squirtle still seems a little dazed from that heavy blow. Growling, the Tiny Turtle Pokemon recedes into his shell and fires off a second massive Hydro Pump! The inside of our circus tent is soaked as Blaze tumbles backward from that heavy blow.

Burn: <-20 HP; -12 EP; -2 SpA>
Franklin: <-7 HP; -10 EP>

Once again, Burn hops to her feet. Ooh, what movie will Sleep Talk call this time? I’m simply beside myself in anticipation! Suddenly, the Charmander begins pirouetting bizarrely. However, the move seems to have some benefit as the fiery fighter’s physical might begins to ramp up. Awesome! Once again, Franklin goes for a Hydro Pump; however, the attack is difficult to control and Burn doesn’t manage to soak his foe quite as thoroughly as he would have liked.

Suddenly, the Charmander begins to glow brilliantly. Ooh. Ahh. Purdy.

Burn: <-14 HP; -4 EP; +2 Att; Blaze>
Franklin: <-10 EP>

Suddenly, Burn gives a start and awakens on the spot. Though she’s suffering some mega bedsores thanks to all those Hydro Pumps, she nonetheless barrels forth to deliver an electrifying ThunderPunch. Franklin does a spin on the spot to bring some clones into existence, but the ThunderPunch strikes before he has an opportunity. The ripples of electricity burgeon around Franklin’s body. Growling, Franklin gives the Double Team another go, generating a little armada of happy Squirtles. Bring it!

Burn: <-6 EP>
Franklin: <-16 HP; -4 EP; 3 clones>

The Aqua Ring blesses Franklin with a second deluge of health-bringing water <+3 HP>.

Our three most prolific hecklers leap upon their seats and begin barraging the two Kanto starters with some rather nasty remarks. Cynder, DL and Chaos each hurl a pie into the fray. Burn unfortunately takes a cream pie while Franklin, on the other hand, loses not one but two of his dear clones to the baked goods. Parting is such sweet sorrow.

Burn: <-6 HP>
Franklin: <1 clone>

As the round officially gets underway, Burn preempts any kind of offensive tactic on her opponent’s part by erecting a glistening orange barrier. Franklin, however, decides to try his luck at overcoming such a shield by putting everything he has into another Hydro Pump. As one might expect, the water runs off the shield harmlessly.

Burn: <-8 EP>
Franklin: <-10 EP; 1 clone>

Burn’s fist is alive with electric current as she stalks toward Franklin and the remaining Squirtle clone. Rather than flipping a coin, Burn simply goes for it and picks one of the two turtles at random. Fortunately for Burn, she chooses correctly! Her fist strikes the real Franklin in the jaw and, with that, the clone pops out of existence. Furious, Franklin douses his foe with a heavy deluge of water. Eat it, salamander freak!

Burn: <-11 HP; -6 EP>
Franklin: <-16 HP; -4 EP; 0 clones>

Once again, Burn throws up a Protect to ward off any oncoming attack. However, Burn winces this time around as the strength required to maintain such a ploy eats into her health. The effect is nonetheless the same: Franklin’s Hydro Pump pummels the barrier mercilessly, but the shield refuses to buckle. Franklin lets out some choice swear words.

Burn: <-1 EP; -3 HP from fatigue>
Franklin: <-10 EP>

The Aqua Ring heals Franklin <+3 HP> before vanishing.
