Quiet as a mouse, Pachirisu tiptoes back around the corner toward the cell. From your point-of-view, you only see the key hover toward the door. At this point, the Strength Maiden has noticed the key bobbing through the air and your heads peeking around the corner and eagerly waits by the door.

Then, without warning, Mamoswine rolls over in his sleep. He lets out a raucous Snore that collides with Pachirisu, blowing the invisible paint clear off her body. She lets out a squeal as the key flies out of her hands and lands somewhere on the ground, but you can't see where.

You look over at Mamoswine. In all the commotion, his eyes seem to have opened. He looks right at Pachirisu, who's frozen with fear beneath the intimidating eyes of the Ground-type.

Not good.

All hell begins to break loose. You, Mismagius, Sketcher, Bellossom and Ralts burst around the corner and come to Pachirisu's rescue. Mamoswine, alarmed by this sudden onslaught of opponents, goes on the offensive. He watches as Bellossom prepares an attack; before she can deliver it, though, he attacks her with an Ice Beam. She freezes solid. Sketcher follows suit, trying to paint up an Energy Ball of his own, but Mamoswine charges and launches Sketcher against the brick wall hard with a mighty Superpower.

"Buttercup, I told you none of your Pokemon were well-equipped to fight him!" Mismagius snaps. "Dear, leave him to me while you try to find that key!"

While Bellossom glistens within her icy prison and Sketcher tries to catch his breath, you, Ralts and Pachirisu begin searching like mad for the key. Panicked, you look around for any glint of silver, but nothing catches your eye.

"Hurry!" the Strength Maiden roars, headbutting the bars to no avail. "He's not going to be able to hold Mamoswine for long!"

You peer over at Mismagius. For someone who boasted a lot of talk, he certainly doesn't seem to be able to hold his own. He just barely evades a crushing Ice Fang and tries to counter with a crippling Thunder, but the move has no effect on Mismagius. Pachirisu looks up and begins jibbering rapidly at Mismagius.

"You mean you can't electrocute a Ground-type?" Mismagius says in shock. "I didn't know that!" Suddenly, he suffers a devastating Rock Slide. Mamoswine tops it off with a powerful Blizzard. Mismagius is a sitting duck.

Pulling himself up, Sketcher once again enters the fray. He paints himself a heavy, rock-cracking mallet and swings it at Mamoswine. The mighty beast lets out a wail but, rather than engaging Sketcher, he turns his back on him. Peering at Mismagius, Mamoswine uses Block to create a mighty invisible force field that shuts out Sketcher and shuts Mismagius in.

Sketcher paints himself a second mallet, this one as craggy as the trunk of a tree. He tries to attack Mamoswine with it, but it merely bounces off the protective shield. It's futile.

Suddenly, Pachirisu lets out a happy squeal and holds up the silver key. As well, Bellossom's icy prison melts away and she stretches. All thawed out! However, Mamoswine summons two more mighty Blizzards to strike Mismagius, who doesn't know how to fight off his oppressor. The poor Ghost is starting to fade. He tries to escape, but the Block has him trapped.

Letting out a trenchant scream, Aikoku takes to the sky. The Murkrows, upon seeing the older, stronger Flying-type, beeline it out of there. Problem solved.

Overjoyed, the Drifblim starts to brush up against Aikoku affectionately. Uh-oh, I think she might have developed a crush... a weird, this-shouldn't-happen-in-nature crush.

Pachirisu bounds toward the cell door and begins working and unlocking it. Meanwhile, you start shouting commands to Mismagius.

The Ghost-type does what you say: he fires off a slew of shimmering leaves and a mighty, sparkling ball of energy. The two attacks strike Mamoswine with impressive strength and cause him to roar ferociously.

"Splendid! Buttercup, I think we've done it!" Mismagius says, thinking he's won the match.

However, he's sorely mistaken. Mamoswine fires off a slew of Ice Beams that strike Mismagius again and again and again. Suddenly, ice begins to form around his lower half. The weight of the ice brings him slamming down to the ground. Only his head is exposed.

Suddenly, Pachirisu succeeds with the key and the door swings open. In true Rampardos fashion, the Strength Maiden comes bursting out of the cell and charges at Mamoswine with a mighty Head Smash. However, Block is still in effect and her attempt yields no results. She slams into the invisible barrier uselessly.

Closing his eyes, Mamoswine begins charging up a Blizzard to bring his foe out of the battle once and for all. Mismagius gulps.

Drifblim explains that she had wandered into their boss's territory and was being shooed away. Apparently, a powerful Honchkrow and his Murkrow cronies recently set up shop in Grave's Yard and are becoming quite infamous among the locals.

Aikoku questions Drifblim about the possibility of Legendary Pokemon in the vicinity. He flexes one of his mighty biceps to entice an answer out of Drifblim.

"Oh, er, yes!" she spews. "Yes, um, plenty! So many... so many Legendaries! We're simply teeming with them!"

You doubt she's telling the truth. She seems to just like Aikoku's attention.

No longer interested in having your time wasted, you stroll away toward the seemingly endless onslaught of headstones. Drifblim peers at you (well, at Aikoku) sadly and lets you depart.

Nothing interesting seems to be going on here. Looking around, you spy a Gastly and a Shuppet engaged in a heated conversation near the door to a charnel house. Nearby, you see a Larvitar with a devious smile at the foot of a tombstone on which a sleeping Murkrow is perched.

Yami uses his powers of Illusion over you and your party to make you all look like a bunch of Sableyes. While Yurei goes to keep Larvitar out of trouble, you approach Gastly and Shuppet.

"We can't just do nothing!" Gastly pleads. "If we don't do something, Honchkrow and his pesky birds are going to overrun all of Grave's Yard. They're getting territorial and making everyone miserable."

"What are we supposed to do? Stage a coup? They're Darks. We're Ghosts. There's not a lot we can do," Shuppet retaliates. "We might as well just accept it."

"I can't believe I'm hearing this!" Gastly says. "If we got the Psychics on our side, then maybe--"

"They'd still mop us up."

"Maybe. Maybe not. We'd have numbers, at least."

After all this discussion, the two Ghosts finally look at you and your Pokemon.

"Do I know you?" Shuppet spits out rudely.

"Hey, be nice. What do you think we should do?" Gastly asks, peering right at you.

You begin shouting some key commands to Mismagius. Realizing that you're giving his opponent some important tips, Mamoswine stops charging Blizzard and starts Roaring loudly. You cup your mouth and start shouting even louder, but your voice gets drowned out over the Roar. Your Pokemon and the Strength Maiden join in, shouting and trying to coach Mismagius, but he can't hear you. He yells something at you, but you can't hear him over the din. He yells again, but it's useless. Bellossom even tries to direct a Synthesis at him, but the Block is impenetrable.

Suddenly, Mismagius starts using Charge Beam on the ground. You realize he's charring words into the stone floor, but you can't read them from this angle. He finishes and then turns back toward you, smiling feebly, before peering up at Mamoswine with fear. Suddenly, a dark shadow passes from Mismagius to Mamoswine and wraps itself around the latter Pokemon. You don't understand what move Mismagius could be using. Fearing what this could be, Mamoswine stops roaring and unleashes a powerful Blizzard at Mismagius. Snow and ice rise up, obscuring your vision of the two battlers.

When at last the Blizzard settles, you see that they're both gone. You realize what move Mismagius used in the end.

You reenter the shrine and see the Compassion, Water and Strength Maidens huddled close to one another for protection. They sigh with relief upon seeing that it's only you.

"We thought you were someone about to kidnap us again," the Water Maiden says, shaking her head.

"The archives are a good distance away," the Compassion Maiden explains when you ask your question. "You will not be able to find them without some assistance. One of us can come with you if you'd like."

"Are you sure that's wise?" the Water Maiden asks. "That leaves just two of us here. The Earth Maiden hasn't showed up yet because the temple door has been magically sealed. Who knows what could happen?"

"Oh, don't be such a ninny," the Strength Maiden says, rolling her eyes.

"Really?" the Strength Maiden says, rolling her eyes. "The temple is huge. It would take hours to map out a route. Listen, you two should know better. You're Maidens of Arceus. The shrine itself is warded. It's the safest place to be. And since we can't leave it unguarded, one of us should just go along and accompany her to the library."

"Well, the small one could just use telepathy," the Compassion Maiden says slowly.

She closes her eyes and concentrates, but Ralts draws a blank. To be honest, it makes sense: your every attempt to Teleport in/out of the temple or use Future Sight have failed. It's almost like someone has put up some kind of barrier against Psychic powers.

"Seriously, we're running out of time," the Strength Maiden barks impatiently. "Pick one of us."

For Maidens, they sure can be awfully bitchy sometimes.

The Compassion Maiden smiles sweetly upon being chosen. The Strength Maiden, however, folds her little Rampardos arms and huffs loudly. You strongly suspect she wanted to come with you.

"Well, off we go. Farewell, Sisters," the Blissey says, inclining her head to the others before departing. As soon as she joins your party, you notice your Pokemon start to instantly heal.

The Compassion Maiden leads you out of the shrine and through a winding set of corridors. The route takes ages to navigate. This temple truly is the size of a small city.

Eventually, the Compassion Maiden leads you down a nondescript corridor lined with seven paintings. You see portraits a Nidoqueen, a Kingdra, a Pidgeot, a Blissey, a Rampardos, a shiny Dragonite and... another. This other one seems to have been ripped right out of its frame. Only a few blue and white shreds of canvas remain.

"Ah, yes," the Compassion Maiden says. "I see you've found our paintings. We should really get around to restoring that missing one. It used to depict the prior Intelligence Maiden before she, ah... retired. We have not yet gotten around to updating it with the current Intelligence Maiden's portrait."
