A hot wind blows through the clearing as little Harial scores hits on all of the Victreebels! The plants latching onto your face and left arm disengage. Progress!

Marauder swoops in and begins Whirlwinding like mad. Using your free arm, you grasp onto a root as the gusting air blows all but two of the remaining Victreebels into the forest.

With your full range of movement intact, you pull yourself to your feet and see Zentillion by your side, fully healed. Whoo berries!

Ever the reliable little air taxi, Marauder takes flight and touches down where the air is heavy and sweltering. The buzzing of innumerable insects surrounds you. This place doesn't seem to know what the meaning of "winter" is.

Peering around, you see many more Pokemon than you'd found elsewhere. A Gloom and a Sewaddle do battle at the base of a towering tree while, in its branches, a Scyther dozes.

Suddenly, you hear something odd. Turning around, you see a Snivy about thirty feet away crouched at the base of a stone... something. It looks to be a statue, but you're not sure what it's supposed to be. The Snivy seems to be weeping.

You approach the Snivy who doesn't not immediately notice you. Upon closer inspection, the statue appears to depict a lean antelope with broad, gently curling antlers. Its smile is calm and somehow makes you feel safe.

Suddenly, the Snivy notices your presence and spins around. She hisses.



"I know why you're here!" she shrieks. "I won't let you destroy this forest! Even with our protector missing... I'll stop you by myself!"

Vines extend from behind her arms and smack your ankles. It's not particularly painful.

"So you're... not with the loggers, then?" she asks. She peers at your Pokemon. "I guess they don't exactly look like logging Pokemon. Oh dear, oh dear. How are we supposed to do defend the Rainforest without Virizion? Where could he have gone?"

She turns back to the statue and mutters what sounds like a prayer.

Because he visits, the Rainforest becomes blessed for the whole year and cannot be harmed by external forces. However, this year, winter came without Virizion's arrival. No one knows where he is. Word has it that there's an accumulation of loggers approaching the Rainforest. They've breached the Safari Zone before in an attempt to destroy this place, but Virizion's protection has always thwarted them. Without his aid, we might be doomed. Please... will you help us? There's a group of stronger Pokemon planning to resist the loggers. Since Virizion's gone, I think they could really use your help!"

You accept and Snivy begins to lead you through the tropical undergrowth. You walk for several minutes undisturbed until you arrival at a towering, rain-rotted outpost in the middle of the jungle. No less than a hundred jungle Pokemon are gathered hear, conversing nervously as though awaiting something. Snivy tells you to wait here before entering the outpost. After a few minutes, she comes back out.

"I've spoken with the Commander and his Generals," she says. "They told me they'll accept your help. Well, what are you waiting for? Go in!"

Before you can do anything, she extends her vines and uses them to usher you inside. You step into a dim room lit only by slivers of light coming through cracks in the boarded walls. Five Pokemon are gathered around a map.




There merely stare at you without saying anything. Awkwaaaard.

You make a sudden display of your confidence. The shiny Tangrowth nods approvingly.

"Good to have you, Human," he says gruffly. You notice he has a little "Commander" badge pinned to his chest. "Well, folks, the Beedrill scouts have confirmed what we suspected: the loggers are going for a frontal assault at the Rainforest's northern end. That's where we need to fortify, and fast. General Roserade and I will head there with four of the seven tactical squads while the rest of you man the east, west and south. Smaller units of loggers will be coming at us from those angles, but they shouldn't be hard for you folks to repel. Understood? Human, we appreciate your assistance, but we can't exactly trust you with anything too big just yet. You'll be deployed along with General Zangoose and Company G to fortify the southern end. It should be an easy task. Do you accept?"

Following General Zangoose, you head outside and approach the ragtag band of fighters you can only assume to be Company G. It's a tiny squadron composed of no more than ten Pokemon.





At the very end of the second line, you notice the Snivy from earlier. She bounces and waves.

"Look at me!" she says brightly. "I enlisted! I'm going to help save the day too!"

"Quiet!" General Zangoose barks. "Okay, troops, we're heading south. No breaking order."

You march southward in silence for about fifteen minutes without saying a word. Company G looks nervous and the fighters begin to chat anxiously among themselves. Eventually, General Zangoose halts the march.

"Need water," he says gruffly. "I'll be back. Wait here."

And so you wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. After twenty minutes, he still hasn't come back. The troops begin to get even more nervous and look to you for guidance.

You send Pineco and Venipede off with Marauder to do a little scouting as you and the other Pokemon form a long line. You perform a sweep of the area.



You spend ten minutes carefully searching for any sign of General Zangoose, but you can't seem to locate him... or any sign of the watering hole. Something isn't adding up.

"You don't think he could have gone AWOL, do you?" Snivy asks.

"Hard to say," the Seedot beside her replies. "He's only been with the resistance for a month. This is the first action he's seen. Maybe he's really not the steely fighter Commander Tangrowth thought he was?"

"Maybe," Snivy concedes. Suddenly, she points to the ground a few feet away from you. "Hey, what's that?"

You glance over and see a heap of loose, turned earth. A trail of earth leads away from it and snakes off into the forest somewhere. It looks as though someone has Dug away from here Bugs Bunny-style.

Suddenly, a squawk overhead directs your attention skyward. Marauder touches down by your side with Venipede and Pineco. They look panicked.



"They're coming!" Pineco blurts out. "The loggers have almost reached the Rainforest's southern border! We have to do something!"

Pineco uses String Shot to mark the area while the Pokemon of Company G resume formation and march south.




After another ten minutes, the treeline ends and you find yourself peering out over a vast plain. Maintaining your cover using the undergrowth, you peer out at the onslaught of approaching vehicles. The mechanical bellow of loaders, bulldozers and backhoes sounds out over the forest's buzz. You see no less than twenty-five vehicles tearing across the plain, each bearing a human and two logger Pokemon.

Hold on. You do the math. Twenty-five times two... equals...

"Wait, what's going on?" the Weedle in your squadron asks. "The Beedrill scouts said the loggers were focusing their attack on the north, not the south! They said hardly anyone was coming this way!"

"We're completely outnumbered!" Snivy cries.

Strategy time! Guys, I don't want you to lose focus. This is your home and you have to defend it. I'm just a lowly human as well, but I'm here helping you, an this even isn't my home. All we need to do is slow down the machines before they reach 50 yards in front of us.

And I know how to do it. Zent, we're gonna cause a hell of a ruckus. Ima need you to Earthquake the ground so much that it ripples and creates a Chasm in front of them, slowing their approach.

All of you, you all are going to Double Team. That's right, I wanna see at least 5 clones of everyone. Then I want a barrage of your attacks to cover them in a swath of rage.

Before I go on, Pineco, do you know Explosion and do all of you know Double Team?

Zentillion directs a massive Earthquake toward the oncoming vehicles. The earth splits, creating a fissure. You hear the sound of screeching brakes as the vehicles come to a halt just before reaching the chasm.

Putting numbers on your side, you get Company G to use Double Team. A myriad of clones amasses and they fire an onslaught of attacks at the logging crew, creating a firestorm of Secret Powers, Sludge Bombs, Energy Balls and the likes. Pineco confirms to you that he does, in fact, know Explosion.

Amid the barrage, you can see a number of enemy Pokemon figuring out how to cross the chasm while their trainers bark orders. In the middle of the loggers, you see an authoritative fellow you assume to be the leader of this whole operation. He has a Pokemon standing on either side of him. Even from such a distance, you can make out what they are.



One of his Pokemon accomplices looks very, very familiar...

Company G, keep your focus on anything that tries to cross. The more we cripple their ability, the less they'll be able to do.

Maraud, take Pineco and go up. When you see Harial flare, that's your signal to dive down and drop Pineco right where I am.

Harial, don't move a muscle! Stay on my shoulder. Zent, we gonna head over to the Chasm. Throw a single Rock over at that Excadrill.

Marauder takes Pineco skyward as you, Harial and Zentillion begin to cross the plain. Many of the logging Pokemon are bulky and not able to cross the chasm, but you watch as a pair of Farfetch'd effortlessly flutter over the divide.

Bad call. Suddenly, Company G directs a firestorm of ranged attacks at the birds. You watch as the birds get torn up by a barrage of Swifts and Magical Leaves. They let out pained squawks and fall, dazed, into the chasm. Their trainers let out aggravated swear words and recall them. Booyeah! Two down, forty-eight to go!

Zentillion tosses a single rock at the leader's Excadrill. The beast bellows and revs up its drill. "General" Zangoose responds with an Ice Beam which strikes the ground at your feet, creating a heap of frost in front of you.

How do you proceed?

You make a passionate plea. Like all good passionate pleas, you mention insurance.

"You know, sir, he might have a point," one of the workers says. "I mean, our premiums are already through the roof as it is..."

"Yeah, at least let me call our local State Farm agent and get him to pull up a quote," another one adds.

"Enough!" the leader barks. "We already went to the trouble of kidnapping Virizion. We're not stopping here. Okay, ladies and gents, get your Steelixes. It's time to do this!"

With three flashes of red light, a trio of Steelixes emerge. They hurl themselves across the chasm, gripping the earth on your side of the divide with their teeth. The loggers' Pokemon, an assortment of Bisharps and Weaviles and Aggrons and so on, begin uses the Steelixes' bodies as bridges. The Pokemon of Company G hurl long-distance attacks at the oncomers, but the Steelixes' cunningly throw up Protects, rendering the crossing Pokemon immune to the assault.

Zentillion performs another earthquake, causing a conveniently located tree to fall in front of the Steelixes. Harial ignites the tangled branches, causing them to burst into flame. The Pokemon on the makeshift bridges stall, unable to proceed any further. Many of them are weak to fire and begin to back away from the burning trees cautiously. At the same time, you watch as cracks begin to appear in the Protective barriers.

One of the workers quickly whispers something in the leader's ear.

"Damn, why didn't I think of that sooner," the man in black replies. "Okay, crew, recall your Pokemon!"

The loggers hold out their Pokeballs and return their Pokemon, Steelixes included.

"Now, throw!"

Suddenly, the loggers all hurl their Pokeballs with as much might as they can muster. You look on as fifty Pokeballs come flying across the chasm. Their Pokemon all burst out on your side of the gulf, brandishing their sharpened claws wickedly.

Two Pokeballs open at your feet as the leader's Excadrill and Zangoose appear. They look like they're ready to do some damage.

Harial creates a barrier of flames, giving the cue to Marauder to drop Pineco. The bagworm explodes with a massive burst, taking out ten of the opposing Pokemon without problem. Zen uses a Surf to toss another five backwards into the chasm.

You watch as a pair of Weaviles begin outing the flames with a gust of Icy Wind. Before you can react, you watch as Zangoose roasts Harial with a sudden Thunderbolt. Excadrill hits Zen with a Drill Run while another Farfetch'd dives out of nowhere and hits Marauder with a sudden Poison Jab.

You look over as Company G's barrage of attacks slows but does not stop the horde of Pokemon marching past you down toward the tree line. Meanwhile, your Pokemon continue to do battle with the Zangoose, Excadrill and Farfetch'd.

You deal a series of attacks to the Pokemon, who respond only with another round of attacks. Marauder begins to wobble, looking seriously ill.

Rather than drawing out this annoying little battle any further, you recall Harial and Zent to their Pokeballs and huck 'em over the chasm at the loggers. Your little Litwick starts spitting fire like mad, igniting two vehicles easy-easy, while Zent's Sand Stream brings one hell of a storm bearing down upon the crew. Hopping aboard Marauder, you fly into the chaos.

Now that you're in the heart of the Sandstorm, you lose all frame of reference. You feel Marauder beating his wings, perhaps calling up devastating Whirlwinds, but you can neither see nor hear what kind of effect they're having. You can't tell human from Pokemon from machine in this chaotic mess. The sand causes your eyes to tear up and your breathing to grow laboured.

How do you proceed?

> Steer out of the storm
> Call for Zent to abate the storm
