The Pokemoncicle encasing Goku and Empoleon continues to bob there in the water as my lovely Lapras gets to work on refreezing the lake. Goku’s immobile fist begins to flicker with fire, which slowly melts the surrounding ice binding the two Pokemon together. Freed, Empoleon returns to her previous strategy of drown, drown, drown. One rapid Aqua Jet propels Goku deep beneath the water.

And with that, Aquafresh finishes up. Newly frozen once again.

Goku: <-6 HP; -6 EP>
Empoleon: <-2 EP>

With only a bit of oxygen in his lungs to sustain him, Goku knows he needs to make quick work. He uses Thunderbolt, which doesn’t actually materialize in the form of a bolt at all. Instead, the current diffuses evenly through the water and ends up shocking both Empoleon and himself in the process. Empoleon, overcome with Paralysis, merely remains suspended in the water like some kind of penguin ghost thing.

Coming to life with another sudden Aqua Jet, Empoleon pushes Goku even further from the surface. Lungs burning and body weak, Goku begins to suffocate yet again. Overcome by alarm, Goku flails around wildly and performs one final Thunderbolt. The electricity again diffuses through the water, electrocuting both battlers and finishing them off.

Peering through the ice, we watch as the immobile bodies of Goku and Empoleon float upwards, still trapped beneath the frozen surface. They look so creepily peaceful.
