Rockin’ his stellar Speed, Anubis zips over toward the red suit of armour and plucks its accompanying orb from where it sits. Turning toward Slasher, he unleashes a crackling gout of flames just as Slasher dives in for an insectoid chomp. The flames catch Slasher right in the mouth and the Scizor stumbles backward. Ahhhh! Spicy!

Slasher shakes off the heat and goes in close for a second X-Scissor. His pincers rips into Anubis, but the Sceptile cunningly grabs onto his opponent’s armoured wrists and chucks him across the arena. Suck it, scarlet mantis thing!

Anubis: <-12 HP; -8 EP>
Slasher: <-18 HP; -6 EP>

In a show of indomitable spirit, Slasher tries for a second Bug Bite. This time, he’s successful and manages to chomp down on Anubis’s arm. Of course, the Sceptile is prepared and with one burst of effort sends Slasher into a nearby pedestal. Lame.

With Speed on his side, Anubis concentrates his physical prowess into a sparkling sphere of energy. Slasher takes the hit to his thorax and seems to be a little odd after that hit. A little… green, even. As his ability activates, swells of sound cast off from Slasher’s beating wings roll through the air and wallop Anubis in the chest. Anubis begins to glow, too.

Anubis: <-20 HP; -10 EP; Overgrow>
Slasher: <-12 HP; -7 EP; Swarm>

Rocks fall from out of nowhere and begin barraging Slasher one after another, encasing the Scizor in a sturdy Rock Tomb. However, a Swarm-boosted Bug Buzz makes quick work of the rocks and blows them clear as waves of sound continue to barrage Anubis.

Anubis: <-20 HP; -3 EP>
Slasher: <-5 HP; -7 EP; -1 Spd>

Once again, rocks fall even more wildly than before and slam against Slasher’s ironclad frame in rapid succession. The pitiless barrage comes to a close leaving Slasher a bit on the dazed side.

Slasher: <-8 HP; Fln>

And with that, the Safeguards wink out like doused flames.

With neither competitor exactly overflowing with hit points, the battle presses on. Slasher takes another ride on the Bug Buzz train, attempting to punish his foe with another onslaught of sonic destruction. However, Anubis uses unimaginable powers of Detection and starts feinting and swooping like mad, somehow evading the attack. He then begins to glow, metabolizing daylight and converting it to health.

Slasher: <-7 EP>

Grimacing, Slasher decides that it ends here. Charging at Anubis, he raises his pincers one final time and leaves diagonal slashes in the Sceptile’s chest. Hissing furiously, Anubis hoists Slasher overhead only to bring him slamming downward against the hard flooring. Donezo.

Chaos returns his fallen Scizor and sends a new Pokemon out to play. With a flash of light, a high-pitched cackling can be heard as a malevolent spirit materializes out of a cracked keystone. The Spiritomb fades into a swathe of shadows, careening forth while firing out a churning sphere of dark energy. Ever the acrobatic little warrior, Anubis ducks beneath the Shadow Ball and then sidesteps Tyrant’s attempted physical strike. What deft little feet he has!

With that, he begins panting heavily. Looks like someone’s energy has bottomed out.

Anubis: <-10 EP>
Tyrant: <-8 EP>

Thoroughly exhausted, Anubis gives his arm a wave and releases an array of shimmering, multicoloured leaves that dances through the air. Thanks to Anubis's ongoing ability, the leaves begin to slice up Tyrant with surprising force. The Spiritomb begins making plans for his glorious comeback… oh, yes, it will be divine…

Opening wide, Anubis spits out a seed the size of a peach pit with expert precision. It latches onto Tyrant and begins sucking the Spiritomb dry.

With a flash of green light, Slashes cedes a little health (lol, geddit? ‘cause it’s a seed?) <-3 HP>. Anubis smiles feebly as his health is restored a smidgeon <+3 HP>. At the same time, the Sceptile is a little confused. He did not expect to last another round.

Rather than letting his Sceptile get slaughtered, the Gym Leader recalls his tired reptile. He plucks another ball from his belt and throws it into the ring, calling upon a beast of a kangaroo. Encompassed by shadows, Tyrant throws himself forth at Darwin. It has no effect.

Anubis: <Outta here!>

Darwin: <Hola!>
Tyrant: <-2 EP>

Darwin closes her eyes and begins to focus her thoughts as Slasher hurls a swirling ball of shadows her way. The ball bursts against Darwin’s hide but leaves neither a scruff nor scrape. Confident that she’s honed her mental skills to perfection, Darwin snaps to life and trudges over to her spectral chum and clocks him right in the kisser.

Tyrant: <-23 HP; -6 EP>

Rinse and repeat. Tyrant’s Shadow Ball once again does nothing while Darwin’s Focus Punch… well, that definitely does something, though a quick feint on Tyrant’s part causes Kangaskhan to only land a partial hit. Even still, Tyrant’s in a world of pain right now. Darwin can hardly contain her laughter.

With a zap, Tyrant's Leech Seed—yeah, it's still kicking' around—comes to life and steals a bit of Tyrant's life <-3 HP>, giving it instead to... well, not Darwin, since she's at full health. Um. It just sort of vanishes. Yeahh.
