You could spend all day correcting spelling and grammar in this thread, quit while you're ahead XD

Also, the post above is the only one where Dark Sage hasn't said "Roy" at least once.

Other than that I have nothing constructive to say. Bye!

Lol. I gotta admit, Roy, you are funny sometimes.

Seriously, Blade, you are aware that this message board does not come with a spellcheck, right? You're just being annoying.

However, some web browsers do. I use Chrome, and whenever I try and use British spellings, it gives me big red lines underneath. For example, apologise. No. There is NO 'z' in apologise >>

This forum doesn't come with a spellcheck, but most modern browsers do.

On that note, Firefox doesn't recognize "spellcheck" as a word. Weird.

So pretty much three big stories happening today

A: A blind sick, Chinese Activist was able to escape custody and make it to the U.S. embassy in a wild police chase that seemed straight out of a action movie. He begged to be taken out of the United States. China then proceeded to put the screws to Chen talking about how he would "never see his family again" which probably means killing them. And the State Department and White House had very little will to actually help him out. In a interview with NPR he laid out how unwilling the U.S. was willing to have him.

    Quote Originally Posted by NPR

    I don’t think I would have.

Q: Do you feel that U.S. officials put pressure on you to leave the embassy as early as possible in order that today’s talks should be a success?

I think that was a factor.
    http://www.npr.org/2012/05/03/151925...ng?ft=1&f=1001

Basically he was pressured into a deal to go to a hospital to get treatment and see his family. He was told that the U.S. would send officials with him to protect him at the hospital. And then.. they didn't send the officials.

B: Economy Numbers continue to turn down, with retail sales slowing and service index dropping.

With the early start of spring and Easter behind us, retail sales slowed in April, with many large U.S. retailers falling short of analysts’ estimates.

The Thomson Reuters same-store sales index showed a rise of 0.8 percent for April sales at stores open at least a year, short of analysts’ estimates for an increase of 1.5 percent. Sales in March had risen 4.3 percent.

Retailers were up against tough comparisons last year, when retail sales jumped 9.0 percent, according to Thomson Reuters. Last year, April benefited from Easter, which fell in late April.
C: Obama Administration released what is pretty much a cradle to grave chart of a woman named "Julia" as part of their campaign. Why they do this? I don't know because not only does it go against the basic external American belief that Government shouldn't be in every part of your life. But it has also made for some very easy fodder from the right on twitter.

#Julia the 23 year old is living with her parents in the Obama economy

At 33, #Julia gets a job designing an Obama campaign website. At 33 + 5 hours, she is fired after it's mocked to death on Twitter.

Obama is worried about #Julia, who doesn't exit. @MittRomney is worried about #Chen, who does exist.

New obama slogan: "Womb to Tomb." #julia

It's every little girl's dream to be dependent upon the government to support her #julia

#Julia "At age 46, Julia's son Zachary is drafted to fight Eastasia in the Great Patriotic Debt Struggle."

In regards to Mr. Chen... First of all, the Chinese government is now reluctantly acknowledging that his house arrest was illegal. Second, his supporters are now claiming that, despite efforts to grant him asylum by numerous members of the United States government, he does not even want to leave the country at this point.

Whether the claims of his family being threatened are true or not, possibly... If whoever broke the law by ordering him detained is trying to scare him, they have succeeded.

It seems that we are offering him help, but he is refusing it.

You're the oldest active member here AND you're a 'writer.'

Also, my Firefox browser has spellcheck built-in. It's a handy tool.

Also also, 'spellcheck' isn't a word. Internet is weird, innit?

"Built-in" is an adjective, which means it should go before the object it modifies. You either mean to say that your browser has a spellcheck built in or that your browser has a built-in spellcheck.

Does your browser also have a built-in grammar check?

"The Chinese side has guaranteed my freedom and my legal rights," he said. "However, yesterday evening I saw that my phone was being controlled and I heard what had happened to my family and I now feel unsafe. I want to leave China, which is also what the White House had originally advised me to do."

"My fervent hope is that it would be possible for me and my family to leave for the US on Hillary Clinton's plane," Mr Chen told the Daily Beast

You just contradicted your earlier claim that the White House is neglecting him.

Well, maybe you didn't come right out and say that in so many words, but you implied it.

Apparently he believes, and maybe it is true that the White House told him that he would be welcomed with open arms. When push came to shove the underestimated the Chinese resistance and decided to drop him. Dealing with a totalitarian government like China, things do not always work out as planned.

I've made some claims about who I don't think Romney's running mate will be...

Here's who I think I would choose as a running mate if I were Romney: Virginia governor Bob McDonnell.

Quite frankly, if Romney loses Virginia, he loses this election, and he's already trailing in the polls there.

But this is a double-edged sword, because McDonnell's notorious views could also hurt Romney greatly.

    It's just my $0.02.

I know. I know. Everyone knows that I am not a Romney fan; but I am absolutely furious after what happened last night. How in he world can he NOT react when that woman said Obama should be tried for treason?! Don't tell me that it was just an error of the moment. McCain showed him how to deal with people like that four years ago. Santorum showed him how not to handle it this year. Nonetheless, he just stood there like a statue!

Is this what the GOP are looking for in a leader? If it is, then the GOP is in big trouble.

If I am remembering correctly you also were pissed when Santorum addressed it, instead of ignored it and continued on. So what is it? Should they ignore it? Should they confront it? Or does your answer change depending on how you can exploit it?

Romney should have showed some backbone and told that woman that she was wrong.

    Period.

Just like how McCain replied to the guy who claimed that Mr. Obama was a Muslim.

Why? It gives credence to her view, and it puts Romney in a position of having to defend Obama.

He didn't reply because he's afraid of losing voters who hold these insane views. As if he even needed them.

I thought there was hope for him when he publically said that the Birther movement was nonsense. But by staying quiet when some nut calls Mr. Obama a traitor, he's proving himself a weakling.

Oh, and I seem to remember Mr. Obama defending Mr. Romney at a speech when someone brought up Romney's Mormon background.

Funny many say the same about McCain when he refused to attack Obama in 2008, and spent alot of his time defending him or not going after the points he is very weak.

And again I ask, weren't you the one who said that candidates need to remain silent when it comes to crazy views?

    When did I say that?

If someone does it when the candidate makes a speech, it's his duty to tell that person that he's wrong. Otherwise, by not saying anything, he's implying that he agrees with said crazy view.

Interpret it your own way, Roy.

I say, someone at that speech accused the President of an incredibly serious crime, the only crime defined in the Constitution, a crime punishable by death.

    And Romney said nothing.

I say it was disgraceful on his part.

Yes he says nothing, he gives it silence, he does not dignify it with a response. I know it is hard to imagine after 3 years of a very thin skinned President. But some times you do not punch down.

You think that the President is "thin-skinned"?

He's been insulted more than any modern President. More disrespect has been shown to him than any modern President. Lunatics like Orly Taitz (who's license to practice law I'd just love to see) pursue a fantasy that constitutes an insult to his office, while foul-mouthed cretins like Ted Nugent make threats directed at him in foul language. No President from either party ever had to deal with this, even those who were less popular than he was.

If it were me on the receiving end of all this venom, I would have had a nervous breakdown a long time ago. But he has let it all go in one ear and out the other.

In fact, I was a little disappointed when he decided to actually release his long form birth certificate. Saying "screw you" to Donald Trump would have been better.

Really? Last time I checked I did not see a "Dead or Alive" poster floating around with Obama's face. I did not see mass protests charging the President with War Crimes. I do not see countries charging him with war crimes. I do not see people accusing him of killing 3,000 U.S. Citizens by planning a terrorist attack. I do not see people accusing him of destroying our economy. I do not see Liberals in the street playing a game of "Try to hit the President with a shoe". I do not see movies fantasizing about his death. I do not see music videos about "tossing a grenade into his lap". I do not see musicians going over say and saying they are embarrassed that the President is from their state. The list goes on and on and on.

If you think Obama has been insulted more than any modern President, then you must have completely forgotten the time between 2000 and 2008.

Really? How many times has this President gone on the podium to attack Fox News? Rush Limbaugh? Any number of his detractors. President Thin Skin does not let things go in one ear and out the other.

No, I don't see "Dead or Alive" posters with Mr. Obama's face.

I just see signs on the front of diners saying, "I do not support the [n-word printed here] in the White House."

Or bumper stickers that say "Do not re-nig in 2012."

    Give me a break.

Or bumper stickers that say "Do not re-nig in 2012."

    Give me a break.
Ooo racist bumper stickers, and you are honestly putting that up against flyers being passed around OPENLY by Liberal groups that amount to death threats? Try again.

Again you have either completely forgotten the Bush years, or remain ignorant of how the left acted during it.

    You want death threats?

What about that political cartoon that was released shortly after the Affordable Health Care act was proposed that showed two cops having shot dead a monkey with one asking the other who was going to handle health care now that they'd done that?

That was both a racial slur and a death threat at the same time.

I don't remember what newspaper it appeared in, but I believe it was a big one.

Edit: By the way Roy, if I was from Texas, I'd also be embarrassed that Bush was from my state. In fact, if I was Jeb Bush, I'd be embarrassed that he was my brother.

    A: New York Post

    B: It was the Stimulus

C: It was poking fun at the "Monkeys in Congress" that were writing the Stimulus bill.

D: It was based off a ACTUAL SHOOTING OF A MONKEY IN CONNECTICUT

So are you saying that Obama wrote the Stimulus? Because back then EVERY SINGLE PERSON knew that Obama was allowing Congress to write it.

Roy, I'm not going to argue with you. Bush was insulted because he deserved it. Obama does not deserve some wackjob of a lawyer claiming that he's an usurper.

And since you're so good at interpreting political cartoons, here's one you might enjoy...

    Oh sweet political bigotry.

By the way the question isn't who deserves it or not, it is about who was insulted more.

Cute, but Obama used information from Bush to catch Bin Laden, same cannot be said for the Stimulus.

In other news, the new Reuters Poll came out today...

Obama was backed by 49 percent of registered voters in a telephone poll conducted from May 3-7, compared to 42 percent who supported Romney. In April, the poll showed Obama leading Romney 47 percent to 43 percent.

Obama's overall approval rating among the 1,131 adults surveyed was 50 percent, up one point from last month, while 47 percent said they disapproved of how he handles his presidency.

Also, the poll showed a jump in the number of independent voters who approved of the way Obama is doing his job. 48 percent approved and 40 percent disapproved in May compared to 37 percent who approved and 57 percent who disapproved in April.

Which is interesting until I read this: 559 Democrats; 471 Republicans; 101 Independents

10% more Democrats than Republicans for a sample?

Anyway in today's Gallup poll Romney is now up. Romney 47, Obama 44. Rasmussen has him up: Romney 49, Obama 44 with Likely Voters. Gallup is still using Registered Voters instead of the Likely Voters model.

But there is even more bad news for Obama, in the USA Today/Gallup poll of swing states this was discovered

    ...

Among those surveyed, 60% say a President Romney would do a good or very good job handling the economy over the next four years; 52% say that of Obama. Even among the president's supporters, four in 10 predict Romney would do a good job. In a direct comparison, Romney edges Obama, 47%-44%, as the one who would do a better job."
    And in the Politico/GWU poll

Obama led Romney by 9 points overall in POLITICO’s February’s poll."
Of course polls mean nothing right now, and both Gallup and Rasmussen have been all over the map lately, but if the economy keeps turning south, Obama has a big problem on his hands.

Roy, exactly why do you claim that the economy is "heading south"?

The DJIA recently hit its highest level since the crash. Employment may not be skyrocketing, but it isn't getting worse.

And might I add, gas prices have been going down for three weeks straight.

And by the way, on a - sort of - unrelated issue - you recently said with pride that the GOP was going to provide students with easier ways to obtain student loans. As of a few hours ago, they blocked the student loan bill in the Senate. Seems to me that Obama might get the youth vote back after all.

The DJIA has been in retreat from poor to horrible economic news for the past few weeks, and as I have posted here before from employment numbers to goods, the economy is not doing too well lately.

Hmm correlation to a weakening economy?

They blocked the Democrats bill, the Republican's bill will more than likely be up for a vote soon. You know, the one Obama promised to veto.

And I am still waiting why does your poll need 10% more Democrats than Republicans for a sample?

They had a choice between letting the bill come to vote or protecting the rich.

    They chose the latter.

Don't feed me your BS, Roy.
