Round 1


Trolgar Mountain
A tall mountain out of the main village. Expect a variety of rock, ground and fire types to be seen among the road to the summit. Can you unlock the code to get into the Archives?


The Safari Zone representitive, an Abra, teleports you quickly to a rocky outcrop at the bottom of the Trolgar Mountain. Ahead of you spans a massive forested area if you decide to travel down the cliff, and upwards behind you spreads the Trolgar mountain itself; both intimidating and oddly inviting at the same time. As you take a look around the Abra vanishes, teleported back to the safari zone entrance.

You wander around for a short time and notice an Elekid sitting at the foot of the mountain with a Mareep. The two appear to be playing a game; they're moving improvised black and white rocks around on a checkered board. The black side appears to be winning.

You hop onto Brando's back and take to the skies, and Moonscape follows promptly. Not one to be left behind, Esquire's imposter ability kicks in and allows it to take on a similar form to Moonscape as it too takes to the skies.

After flying around for a short while, you notice a disctinct cave on the cliff face. As you grow nearer you notice another just above, and an almost indistinguishable one to the right of the first. From the angle you're flying at, it's impossible to see inside any of the three.

At your command Brando swoops upwards towards the smallest cave, which you realise is more like a notch in the rock than a cave. Inside the poorly named cave you see a nest made of thorny branches and a few metallic feathers, inside which is an egg that appears to be made of steel. There is nobody around, and the egg begins to crack.

You dart around for a moment, before eyeing a decently sized rock at the back of the cave; perfect for you to hide behind. Your Pokemon follow, but it's only just large enough to accomodate all three of them. As Brando struggles to fit in beside you and your two Cresselias, you notice a silvery beak pierce the surface of the eggshell, shattering its surface cleanly.

As the remainder of the shell falls to the ground you realise what was inside; a baby Skarmory.

You remain hidden behind the rock for a good while longer, allowing nature to take its course. And that it does; the baby Skarmory caws and caws for its mother until she returns, landing with a metallic clink at the mouth of the cave.

The glare from the sun on her wings lessens as she gets deeper into the cave, and you notice that she has multiple open wounds around her chest and head of various sizes. A cut on the right side of her chest looks particularly nasty.

Her weak eyes light up at the sight of her newly hatched son, and she raises a talon to reveal a small chunk of shapeless meat to feed him. He guzzles it down greedily, then caws for more.

Moonscape hovers out of the shadows, but before realising exactly who she is the mother Skarmory screeches and leaps at her intimidatingly, standing protectively over her baby with her wings spread wide. However, when she realises that the intruder is a Cresselia, her gaze softens and her posture relaxes slightly, although she doesn't move. She tucks away her wings tidily.

"Great mistress Cresselia, what are you doing in my cave?"

The Skarmory averts her eyes as she says so, meeting a legendary Pokemon is a pleasure for a rare few. Moonscape wordlessly replies by using Moonlight, directed at the Skarmory, and some of the surface wounds heal slowly. Not a single trace of those is left behind. Left remaining is the gash on her chest, but it is signifigantly smaller and looks less... serious. Squawking in surprise, the mother Skarmory checks herself over and bows her head. Not bothering to say anything more, the mother retreats to the nest and flicks her head from Moonscape to the cave mouth, a hint for her to leave them alone. How rude!

You too step out of the shadows with Brando and Esquire, and mama Skarmory looks shocked for a moment, before once again standing protectively in front of her child, who is currently staring at Moonscape in awe. Seems that mama Skarmory doesn't consider the possibility that you might be with the Pokemon that just, y'know, healed her.

You explain yourself and ask for directions, but Skarmory shakes her head once she realises that you're a trainer - and more importantly that you caught a legendary Pokemon. She mutters something to herself in a low voice, turning her head to the ground, and glares at you. Quicker than a Ninjask, she takes off out of the cave (with her baby on her back) and goes to goodness-knows-where. Welp, that was odd.

You quickly hop aboard Brando and zoom out of the mouth of the cave, to the dismay of both Moonscape and Esquire as they aren't quite speedy enough to keep up. Instead, they go as quickly as they are able to, but still trail slightly behind. You see Mama up ahead with baby Skarmory still sat on her shoulders, and she seems much faster than before - it's at that point you realise she must have used, or still is using, an Agility attack to get away from you ASAP. She seems to be heading in the direction of the Ffeffni Mountain.

You decide that it isn't worth the chase and allow Mama Skarmory to get away.

Your other two Pokemon finally catch up with you, just as you decide to turn around - they sigh complacently and continue to follow you. As quickly as you left you return to the main body of the mountain, and are faced with the option of three caves. You've already been to the smallest cave, home to the Skarmory's nest, and left is the first, largest cave; and the second smaller cave high up the mountain.

Choosing a smaller cave once again, you fly steeply upwards to reach it. It feels slightly colder, but it's of not matter as what you find inside this cave is... A large metallic door with an electronic keypad next to it. It has the numbers 1 to 9 on it.

Realising that the Pokemon you saw earlier at the bottom of the mountain might be your next clue, you hop back onto Brando's back and shoot back to the ground. When you reach the bottom you see that the Mareep is gone; the little improvised board is flipped onto the ground and the stones they were using are scattered around.

You notice the Elekid from earlier sat on the ground sulking, and the Mareep is nowhere to be seen.

You ask Elekid what's wrong, and he replies crabbily; "Mareep and I were playing a game, and she was losing so she stormed off and filpped over the board..." He sniffles overdramatically. "Before she left, sniff, she told me she never wants to play with me again..." The little Elekid boy bursts into tears, n'aww.

As he starts crying Esquire tries to comfort him, but finds itself with a distinct lack of well, everything, as it returns to normal.

Elekid tugs your arm excitedly and runs off up the side of the mountain; you have little choice but to follow the perky little fellow. The entire way he stops every time he leaves your direct line of sight and lets off a small amount of sparks, to the annoyance of a few of the wild Pokemon in the area. After roughly 20 minutes you journey comes to a stop however - a large boulder is in the way. Elekid frowns. "That boulder wasn't there this morning... How will I get home?!"

Esquire quickly shifts its form to match that of Elekid's, and he looks on in shock and excitement. He claps his hands, impressed by Esquire's unique ability, and the pair of them get to work on the rock. Gradually the rock chips away, and splits in half with a resounding crack.

All was not well, however - it looks like that noise caused a landslide! You see huge lumps of rock and earth falling down the edge of the mountain, and the rumbling noise that it's making is simply accelerating its progress. It's bearing upon you - and fast!

Choosing to take the problem head on, you command the Pokemon around you to Psychically repel the falling rocks. This strategy seems to be working - the rocks have most definitely stopped moving, but now you have the issue of keeping the rocks from moving again. Your Pokemon seem to be tiring quickly also - as the youngest of the group Elekid begins to pant heavily from the strain holding back all of the debris is putting on him.

You and your Pokemon slowly back towards the other side of where the rock once was and drop the psychic barrier - the landslide continues on its way as you sprint up the mountainside. Once you finally make it to where Elekid was leading you in the first place; you realise exactly where that place was. You step into the cave and see an entire family of them. Together they're sat around a huge table in the centre of the room with a friendly looking fire crackling in the fireplace at the cave wall. They appear to be eating some kind of feast - there's a roasted hunk of meat on a plate in the middle of the table, the entire family are hunking chunks off and eating them greedily.



The Elekid you've been travelling with folds his arms and lists the names of his family proudly. "There's Cousin Clara and Unkie John and my sister Freida and my brother Dougie and baby James and Mummy and Daddy and brother Fredrick and Grandpa-" by the time he's listed all of the names he looks as though he's about to faint. "I know the cave looks empty, without Gramma and Jim and Bo and Mo and-"
