"There is nothing you can do, unfortunately, human," Carson says. "You are not one of the initiated. You cannot take part in the plan. However, if you wish to bear witness to our attempts to ensure that the Midsummer Festival does not stoke Darkrai's anger, head to the main stage. My brethren have already started putting the plan into motion."

Right on cue, you hear the Park Director's jubilant voice suddenly sound over a loudspeaker.

"Ladies and gents, it's almost midnight!" the Park Director's voice booms. "Pika Posse will be performing on the main stage in just a few minutes. I repeat, Pika Posse will be performing on the main stage in just a few minutes. Everyone is encouraged to head on down before all the good spots are taken! A rip-roaring good time is sure to be had by all!"

"Definitely head to the main stage," Carson says before slinking off. "If nothing else, it will be memorable."

As Carson slinks off into darkness, you and your Pokemon head off to find the main stage. The same young Pokemon you saw frolicking when you first entered Dysfunctionland scurry past you with excitement.



"I can't believe we're going to see Pika Posse!" Purrloin squeals. "Dylan is by far my favourite! He's totes adorbs!"

As the children hurry off to the concert venue, you and your Pokemon soon find yourself walking through the fairgrounds alone. You once again pass by the fortunetelling booth and, not far away, you see the purple tent that caught your eye earlier. While it appeared to be bustling with activity before, it now seems to be empty, though the tent flap is fluttering ominously. You then pause.

You can vaguely make out the sound of voices on the breeze. They sound... muffled?

You send Megazord and Inverted Duckbot off to find some killer seats while you approach the tent. As you draw close, you can just barely hear the Park Director's amplified voice in the distance as he addresses the crowd of concert attendees.

"Well, ladies and gents, it's midnight!" he announces. You can faintly hear the crowd going wild. "And so I'd like to present to you, the one and only... Pika Posse!"

Vaguely wishing you were at the main stage so you could watch the concert, you pull the tent flap back and... look down at an odd sight. Six Pikachus are bound and gagged on the ground in the middle of the tent. They look rightly panicked.



But if Pika Posse is here and not off at the concert, then...?

Once again, you faintly hear the Park Director's voice coming from the main stage.

"Ooh, and it looks like Pika Posse is... trying out a new wardrobe?" he announces in a vaguely confused manner. "They seem to have foregone their regular attire for, er, hooded cloaks? Interesting."

"These crazy dudes, like, just came after us while we were rehearsing!" one of them exclaims once he's free to talk.

"Yeah, man... we thought they were prolly like fans or something, 'cept they were wearing the strangest duds," another one says.

"And next thing we know we're tied up! We ain't never coming back to Dysfunctionland, dawg!" a third one finishes.

Once again, you hear the Park Director's amplified voice wafting toward you from the main stage.

"Er... no need to be alarmed, folks... I'm sure, um, this is all... part of the show..."

But you also hear the sounds of the crowd getting restless and concerned..

You and Chopin decide to hop into action. Pika Posse ultimately choose not to follow and instead head toward the gates while you rush to the main stage to see what's going on. As you arrive, you see hundreds of Pokemon gathered around a raised platform on which six cloaked figures have gathered. The cloaked figures seem to be chanting something.

You also see the Park Director on the stage with a microphone in his hand, inching away with fear.

You hunt for your other two partners but with this many concertgoers it's difficult to locate your team. Meanwhile, you listen to the Pokemon on stage to try to hear what they're saying. You can vaguely make out occasional snippets of their chant, but it seems to be in another language.

An odd humming noise fills the air as they continue to speak. Whatever they're doing seems to be working.

Panic seems to be getting underway as the crowd starts to realize something untoward is going on. Pokemon begin shoving past one another in order to get away and, as you approach the stage and the Park Director, you're quickly swallowed up by chaos. Chopin then gives a tug on your shirtsleeve and points off to the right, where Megazord and Inverted Duckbot have spotted you and are struggling through the crowd toward you.

Just then, the strange humming grows louder and a beacon of energy flies up from the chanters into the night sky. You then watch as the sky begins to strangely ripple like a pond before growing even darker than it was before. Pokemon around you start screaming and shouting as panic mounts even higher.

The hooded figures then leap off the stage into the audience. The crowd presses away, afraid to be near them, which gives the cloaked figures an opening to start sprinting away toward the gates unencumbered.

Leaving the chaotic concert venue behind, you decide to pursue the strange cloaked figures. You follow them through Dyfunctionland back to the front gates where they pause upon realizing that they're being pursued. They notice you and, apparently nervous, they confer among themselves.

"We'd better make a break for it," one of them whispers. "Twila?"

The smallest cloaked figures joins arms with the rest. With a flash of white, they Teleport away. Just then, you hear voices behind you.

"They ran this way! I definitely saw them run this way!"

You turn and see the Park Director and an assortment of guards rounding the corner. There's one for every colour of the Rotom rainbow.




They see you standing there and pause, stunned.

"It's him!" the Park Director cries, pointing a single finger directly at you.

"And what are the odds they just happened to be with Astrid the Astounding when she fainted, eh?" another Rotom asks. "Seems like pretty fishy timing!"

"And look! None of them have hand stamps!" a third points out. "They must have sneaked into Dysfunctionland!"

"You have one chance and one chance only to convince us not to mete out some severe punishment," the Park Director finishes in a menacing tone.

You point out a couple of gaping holes in their accusations, but they seem dead certain that you must be the culprit.




"Lucky for you that Pika Posse is nowhere to be seen to corroborate your story, then, right?" the Park Director comments. "Your other two accomplices probably took off somewhere, but we'll make sure you don't have a chance to do the same!"

Suddenly, he Sketches up two objects: a miniature moon and a microphone. The moon begins to exert a strange Gravitational force on your surroundings; meanwhile, the Park Director grabs the microphone and begins spouting a rather cruel series of Taunts at your Pokemon.

"Escape is futile!" the Park Director cries. "Get 'em, boys!"

The Rotoms then rush toward you, sizzling with electric current.

You ultimately decide that the only winning move is not to play. You return your Pokemon to their Pokeballs and refuse to fight. The Rotoms then come to a halt and pause awkwardly. It becomes clear that, even though they're a little on the thick side, they don't relish the idea of assaulting a human who refuses to defend himself.




"Er... boss?" the Wash Rotom asks. "What do we do?"

The Park Director pauses. He looks genuinely unsure.

"Ugh, this whole thing is such a mess!" he wails in frustration. "We have to figure out what they did when they spoke that weird chant, but we can't do that with a few hundred terrified festival attendees wandering around Dysfunctionland in a dither. We also need to find Pika Posse and make sure they're alright. Okay, I've got it. Take the human away to my office and keep watch over him there while I sort this whole thing out. Once I've done that, we'll hopefully be able to get to the bottom of this whole disaster. This is going to be a PR crisis of epic proportions."

The Rotoms nod, snatch your possessions and grab you by the arms. They start to lead you away.

The Park Director tends to the crowd as you allow the Rotoms to take you away.




The Rotoms lead you to a large grey building. They take you inside and bring you into a nondescript white room with a large desk, a water cooler, some wastepaper bins and not much else. The Rotoms then leave and close the door behind them. You can still hear them as they stand watch on the other side of the door.

You remain here for several minutes without much to occupy your time. You begin to wonder whether you're going to end up spending the whole night in this crummy, rundown office when you suddenly hear a female voice just outside the room.

"I'm here to empty the Park Director's garbage," the voice says. "Mhm, what's that you say? Yes, I'm aware there's a guy being held in there. What's he going to do? I can breathe friggin' fire! He's a human; I can take care of myself, thanks."

The door then swings open and a familiar face walks inside the room. She then closes the door behind her.



"Listen," she whispers as she waddles up to you. "We don't have much time. I know this is probably confusing for you, but you need to tell me everything you know. I was sweeping up garbage on the other side of the park when Pika Posse was supposed to go on and I didn't get a chance to see what went down at the main stage, but I've heard enough rumours floating around that I might have an idea. I can help you, but we need to be fast."

"My theory is that the Dreadhand Cult is trying to resurrect Darkrai. I don't know much about them, but I know someone who does. Based on what I've heard, it was definitely a... a ritual they were performing? Do you know what exactly they said?"

This island, far off from the coast, seems to have a peculiar energy to it. Strange things occur when it is visited-but reports of its existence are few and far between. What is known is that it has many craters and is a strange hilly terrain, with few patches of grass.

You scurry toward the vat of boiling water above which Princess Pomegranate's cage is suspended and gradually lowering. Unable to locate a key, you use the Mega Mushroom and quickly become ten feet tall. Whoo! However, the cage has to be some forty-odd feet up in the air, so it's still well out of reach.



"So, you brought an accomplice, eh?" Blower comments.



"So what if I did?" Wynario retorts. "The two of us are more than enough to handle you, Blowser! We'll save the princess and there's nothing you can do about it!"

"Well, fortunately, I'm not working alone, either. I think it's time for my trusted ally to reveal himself," Blowser says to some unseen figure.

Then a figure steps out from behind the throne. He looks quite familiar.



"It's my brother, Wynuigi! Mama mia!" Wynario gasps. "You're... you're working with Blowser? How could you betray me, Wynuigi? How could you?"

Okay, this is starting to transition from wonderfully nutty to just plain stupid.

You ultimately decide that a heroic escape is simply not in the cards tonight. Instead, you decide to wait for the Park Director to return.

"I'll see what I can do to help you out," Brigitte says before lifting a bag of garbage out of one of the wastepaper bins. "Hold tight."

She departs, thus leaving you alone once more. And so the waiting game resumes. Without any means of telling time, you're not sure exactly how many hours are passing. At one point, you doze off only to suddenly jolt awake, unsure exactly how long you were out. Your wait continues for much of the night until, at long last, the door swings open. The Park Director enters holding your balls. He looks physically and mentally fatigued. Brigitte is with him.



"Well, tonight's been one hell of a nightmare," the Park Director wheezes. "Do you know how hard it is to convince three hundred Pokemon that they're not in physical danger despite a random appearance from a cult of hooded figures? Not to mention all the paperwork I've had to deal with! And then the journalists started calling, and Astrid is still out cold, and then the festival committee was in my hair, and then Pika Posse's manager called to yell at me for allowing our star act to get tied up. Pika Posse made it out of the park safe and sound, thankfully... their manager informed me that they were apparently saved by a human and his Kricketune, just like you said, kid. And that's when Brigitte came up to me and explained how she saw you enter the Zone with Abra and then she told me her theory on everything. Listen, I was a little irrational earlier, I admit. Well, a lot irrational. We shouldn't have locked you up in here." He then hands your possessions back to you. "I'm just not sure what to do now. Those hooded figures—the Dreadhand Cult?—definitely did something, I'm just not sure what. Do you have any ideas, kid? I'm at a loss."

"Well, I was thinking about it earlier," Brigitte says. "Astrid is a friend of mine, see, and before she took up work here she studied underneath our old fortuneteller, an extremely gifted clairvoyant named Mistress Miyako. Now, Mistress Miyako was—well, is—an oddball, that's for sure, but she knows her occultism. That's how I came to know about the occultist clan known as the Dreadhand Cult to begin with. Mistress Miyako would tell me stories about the strangest things, including demon resurrection, which is apparently a pretty tricky process. She says it's not something that can always be accomplished with one ritual. Sometimes, for strong demons, you need to perform two rituals... and with really strong demons, like Darkrai, you need to perform three. And so I'm wondering if that was simply the first of three rituals. If that's the case, then we need to stop them from continuing their attempts to resurrect Darkrai. If only I knew when and where and how they intend to perform the next two rituals."

Since she's 40 feet in the air right now Pmegranate isn't too much of a concern, so I'll concentrate on immobilising Blowser! Surely there's some kind of rope lying around, I'm not sure how else would Blowser have kept Pomegranate immobilised while he set up the trap, so I'll use that to tie him up or something. If all else fails I'll pin him to the ground while Wynario and his bro sort ou their differences. Or something.
