    CYNDER'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Platrin Plateau
A strange, mysterious temple set high in the sky. Here, you will find exceptionally strong Pokemon in the various rooms and spaces of this ancient land set high in the sky. If you are lucky, you may stumble on a Legend or two?

    ‡ Round 142 ‡

Though Salamence said the Tao Shrine was located in the deepest bowels of the temple, you take the spiral staircase upward. It lets off in an elaborate ballroom replete with orchestral music echoing from somewhere. You see a number of Garchomps performing a brisk waltz.

On the far side of the Garchomps, you see a solitary door.

    How do you proceed?

    > Approach the Garchomps
    > Try the door
    > Head down the staircase

Gonna ba a tough one since we don't have a dedicated flier...

Duckbot, use a combination of Lock-on and Magnet Rise! Time to see if we can exceed your weight limit: take us to those ghosts!

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Nevshard Badlands
A terribly hot, sweltering desert with few places for shade. Illusions are commonplace here-and the scent of inevitable dehydration hangs high here. Yet hardy Pokemon worked out a way to survive in this climate-despite the horrid lack of water.

    ‡ Round 112 ‡

Duckbot just barely manages to Lock-On to the distant targets before Magnet Rising into the air. You and Brigitte hop aboard and shoot after them. Duckbot isn't able to move very quickly with you on its back; however, since the Pokemon you're pursuing don't exactly have Jolteon-esque Speed, you catch up to them after five to ten minutes. You see the shiny Ghosts as well as numerous other temple spirits. You don't see Megazord among them.

The Pokemon are reaching the desert's northern teminus. Panbau Sanctuary is just ahead, though you're not sure whether this is the Ghosts' destination or if they're simply going to pass through. Duckbot, meanwhile, is starting to grow weary. It doesn't make nearly as good of a taxi as Megazord did.

    How do you proceed?

    > Call out to the Ghosts
    > Keep following
    > Head elsewhere

A strange, mysterious temple set high in the sky. Here, you will find exceptionally strong Pokemon in the various rooms and spaces of this ancient land set high in the sky. If you are lucky, you may stumble on a Legend or two?

    ‡ Round 143 ‡

You decide to backtrack a little. You head down the spiral staircase and follow it deep into the temple. When at last you can descend no more, you explore the dark, torchlit corridor where you suddenly find yourself. You walk in quiet for several minutes until you come upon a large set of double doors—your heart rises. You see writing engraved into them.

    Black and white,
    yin and yang,
    ideals and truth:

The space behind these doors marks the point
    where dualisms converge.

    Welcome to the Tao Shrine.

    Well. It's come to this.

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Panbau Sanctuary
A reclusive grove of bamboo shields unwanted eyes from the secrets that lay dormant in this densely packed forest. There is talk of treasure beyond one’s wildest imagination lying just beyond the grove.

    ‡ Round 113 ‡

You dismount and continue following the Ghost Pokemon.

After an hour and a half of pressing through the tightly-packed forest of bamboo groves, you reach Panbau Sanctuary's northern border. Feizhi Outpost lies just ahead, but exhaustion is overwhelming you and your party. You're not sure you have enough gas in the tank to continue this trek. The Ghosts, on the other hand, don't even look the least bit fatigued.

    How do you proceed?

Duckbot, return and recharge your batteries. Bridge, hop on up into my arms. You'll need some rest as well.

Chopin, come on out and rise to the ghosts -- see if you can communicate with them at least...

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Feizhi Outpost
A thick and heavy jungle where the best of explorers will find a thousand and one bugs. That's not to mention the abundant Poison types and several Grass types too.

    ‡ Round 114 ‡

You recall Inverted Duckbot and hold onto Brigitte as you summon Chopin from his Pokeball.

Chopin flutters up toward the Ghosts and begins jibbering at them in an attempt to communicate, but they ignore him outright. You cross the threshold from bamboo to deciduous trees as you pass into the Mysterious Rainforest of Feizhi Outpost. Suddenly, after nearly two hours of hurried walking, you're forced to stop. Your legs will carry you no further. You look on as the Ghosts drift on away from you.

    Feizhi Outpost
A thick and heavy jungle where the best of explorers will find a thousand and one bugs. That's not to mention the abundant Poison types and several Grass types too.

    ‡ Round 115 ‡

You sit down on a nearby boulder. The Ghosts drift out of sight and are gone.

"This is such garbage," Brigitte says, panting heavily, "and I'm sick of it constantly being night out! My internal clock is majorly messed and it doesn't help that I haven't slept in forever. Say, you don't think Mistress Miyako would know where the Ghosts are heading, do you? I'm still not entirely clear what the Second Ceremony even accomplished."

Meanwhile, you notice a Durant crawling about in the treetops. You also see a Servine and a Grovyle not too far off gathering fruit from some low-hanging branches.

    How do you proceed?

Seems like the best course of action is to see what the mistress says. We'll rest up here, then teleport back to the theme park via Duckbot.

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 116 ‡

You watch the nearby Pokemon as you and your entourage recoup your lost strength. When at last you've returned to full power, you call out Inverted Duckbot and then Teleport back to Dysfunctionland. Standing just inside the front gates, you peer around but don't see anyone around save for a squat little Wynaut who rushes up to you anxiously.

"Brigitte!" Wynaut says as she waddles up to you. "Hey, you haven't seen the Fantastic Phantasmic Litwick Brothers recently, have you? I was eating lunch with them a couple hours ago and they just... got this weird, blank expression and then trudged away. It was the strangest thing."

At that moment, you hear a wailing sound echoing from somewhere off in the distance.

    How do you proceed?

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 117 ‡

You and Brigitte part ways as you follow the sound of the wailing. You come upon a white tent with a red medical cross stitched into the canvas and then slip inside. You see Mistress Miyako weeping over a stretcher upon which the Astounding Astrid is recumbent with eyes closed. Just like the last time you saw her, Astrid is thrashing and moaning as though suffering a nightmare. The Park Director is standing in the corner of the tent looking wary.

"This is all my fault, Astrid," Mistress Miyako says hoarsely through loud, wracking sobs. "If I had not taught you... if I hadn't instructed you to sense vibrations emanating from distant plains... you would not be like this. You would not have been pulled so easily into Darkrai's clutches."

"She's been weeping like this since shortly after you left," the Park Director explains. "She pauses every so often when her lucidity slips away and then resumes once it comes back. I can't get her to stop and Astrid doesn't seem to be any closer to waking, either."

The ghosts have been migrating and we have otherwise been unable to keep up. Is there anything more you can tell us?

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Dysfunctionland
A dilapidated series of amusement park rides and buildings. Who knows what you might find underneath these dusty tents and behind closed doors…

    ‡ Round 118 ‡

Mistress Miyako suddenly stops speaking and begins teetering back while forth muttering under her breath. She stares blankly ahead for nearly a full minute without registering your question. Suddenly, she snaps back and peers directly at you as though nothing had happened.

"So, the Dreadhand Cult executed the Minion Ceremony. All the Ghosts in the Safari Zone are thus migrating to the same location. Ghosts, you see, are Darkrai's preferred underlings. They are commonly associated with the kind of fear and terror that Darkrai tends to espouse and they are weak to Dark-type moves, which means they're easy for him to control. There is only one ritual left: the Third Ceremony, also known as the Restoration Ceremony, which involves the Ghosts. When all the Ghost-type Pokemon in the Safari Zone are forced to speak the proper incantation under the night sky, Darkrai will be returned to full power. The Third Ceremony can only be held at the site where Darkrai's last incarnation was captured. Now, listen, human. If you're going to fight Darkrai, I'm coming and I'm bringing Astrid. I will compel him to restore her one way or another. And you're coming as well," she adds, pointing a pincer at the Park Director. "You're a Smeargle and you might end up being damn useful. I won't take no for an answer. I will not allow you to display the foolhardiness and cowardice you typically demonstrate. You owe me this. You locked me away in a putrid prison cell that caused my Inner Eye to close. You will comply."

The Park Director looks around uneasily.

"Er, fine," he mutters, hanging his head. "I'll come."

Suddenly, Brigitte strolls into the tent.

"Oh, there you guys are," she says. "So, did I miss anything?"

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Grave's Yard
A frightening place where all the worst stories originate. Home to Ghost and Dark type pokemon, you may find a rare Psychic type, but only the bravest dare tread here.

    ‡ Round 119 ‡

Intimidated by Mistress Miyako's sudden assertiveness, you make the only choice you really can at this point. Mistress Miyako holds Astrid's body in her pincers as she, Brigitte and the Park Director huddle close to you, Chopin and Inverted Duckbot. Duckbot lets out an animated chirp and then Teleports you away.

You suddenly appear in an old, misty cemetery. A sea of tombstones spill out in all directions, broken up by the occasional mausoleum or crypt here and there. You see a forest of skeletal trees in the distance. You glance over and spy a horde of Ghost-type Pokemon drifting in the same direction.

An impossibly large assortment of Ghost-type Pokemon have amassed not too far from here.

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Grave's Yard
A frightening place where all the worst stories originate. Home to Ghost and Dark type pokemon, you may find a rare Psychic type, but only the bravest dare tread here.

    ‡ Round 121 ‡

    You call out to Megazord.

Just as you expected, the golem doesn't respond. Meanwhile, the Director Sketches a whetstone against which he starts sharpening his claws while Mistress Miyako begins pirouetting with a surprisingly graceful Swords Dance.

"Dont forget about me!" Brigitte exclaims as she Bulks Up with a several push-ups.

As your allies bristle with newfound power, you meander toward the congregation of Ghost-type Pokemon who have all gathered around in a circle. You can't even count how many spirits are here, but they pay you no mind. Instead, their gazes are focused on the center of the circle where you see a large granite plinth upon which three statues are perched. They depict a human, a Kangaskhan and a Spiritomb in various battle poses. Engraved on the plinth is a message.

This statue marks the site where
    on 16 September 2010
our human hero and his Pokemon allies
vanquished the evil specter known as Darkrai.

Gathered around the statue are a few dozen members of the Dreadhand Cult who are, as per usual, cloaked and hooded.

"Good evening, minions of Darkrai," one of them says. You recognize the figure's voice as Carson's. "We have gathered you here tonight so that we might resurrect our master after almost two years of sleep. The time has come. Make Darkrai proud."

And with that, the Ghosts all begin murmuring in unison. The chanting begins.

    ‡ Round 122 ‡

Once again, you're just barely able to make out indistinct snippets of the chant being spoken around you.

    "...ritus..."

    "...dominus..."

    "...resurrectio..."

    "...somnus..."

    "...tertius..."

    "...Darkrai..."

    "...Darkrai..."

    "...Darkrai..."

    "...Darkrai..."

    "...Darkrai..."

One by one, the stars overhead begin winking out as the moon grows black and dim. The only illumination around you comes from the Ghosts' spectral glow, which washes your surroundings with a purplish dolour. The mist begins to billow into the middle of the circle before growing dark as fissures rend the earth. Your allies wear identical expressions of readiness and fear.

You realize this is your last chance to act.

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Grave's Yard
A frightening place where all the worst stories originate. Home to Ghost and Dark type pokemon, you may find a rare Psychic type, but only the bravest dare tread here.

    ‡ Round 123 ‡

    The chanting goes dead.

All is silent save your breaths, which come up shallow and hurried.

The mist begins to further darken until it's black and glinting. It then takes shape, forming itself into a body you certainly recognize but which you've never personally witnessed. The cult members drop their hoods in shock and wonder as their master returns to them.

"The Pitch-Black Pokemon is born anew," Mistress Miyako whispers.

    How do you proceed?

We'll wait this out... blindsiding him will only lead his band of loyal followers to bumrushing us.

    ‡ Round 124 ‡

You decide to bide your time, but Carson doesn't appear to think similarly. The Persian whips down his hood and crouches beneath Darkrai, head bowed in some unflattering mix of terror and reverence.

"M-Master," Carson murmurs tremulously. "You've been b-b-born again. We knew this would happen! It is because of us, your loyal f-followers... the Dreadhand Cult... that you stand here now. We are responsible for your being here t-t-t-tonight."

Darkrai eyes Carson without a flicker of emotion.

"Are you saying, Persian," Darkrai intones after a pause, "that you performed the Three Ceremonies and are therefore solely responsible for my return?"

"Yes, master!" Carson blurts out, only to rapidly backpedal. "I mean, n-no, master! Your power is such that... that you return was inevitable, of course! With or without us, you would have returned! I know that you're the strongest and most powerful of all Legendary Pokemon and so that you could never been kept away for long. I'm just s-s-saying that we, y'know... helped things along and so--"

"Silence!" Darkrai booms, causing Carson to flinch and whimper. "I tolerant neither hubris nor obsequiousness among my subordinates. I am here tonight because such is the way of things. The evil that births me again and again can never be quelled. Listen to my words, Persian. My minions have been and forever will be the Ghost-type Pokemon who inhabit this plain. I am aware that you and your brethren sought my resurrection out of fear and fear alone, and for that I have only one response."

Darkrai then whips up a flickering black sphere that he hurls at Carson. It strikes the Persian who falls to the ground in a fit of convulsions not unlike what Astrid experienced when you first met her. The other cult members watch their ally thrashing and moaning in some kind of induced sleep and immediately scarper, leaving the circle behind.

"As I expected," Darkrai murmurs. "Good evening, minions. I thank you all for joining me tonight. Before I get to the business of how I will make my presence known throughout the Safari Zone and beyond, there is something I must first take care of. I sense that not all those who have gathered here tonight are loyal to my cause. In particular, there is a human and a small militia of Pokemon who have intruded upon my resurrection. They are here as we speak. I would like them to make themselves known. Step forward."

    ‡ Round 125 ‡

You, Chopin, Inverted Duckbot, Brigitte, Mistress Miyako and even the Park Director all step up. Darkrai surveys each of you smugly. He does not appear particularly intimidated by your ragtag band of misfits.

"What do you hope to accomplish tonight, human?" Darkrai inquires.

Judging by my lack of willingness to get the hell outta here, Darkrai, clearly I'm here to stop you from reigning over this verse. You may've taken control of one of my best, but I'm not going to back down.

    ‡ Round 126 ‡

Darkrai does not appear impressed by your moxie. Suddenly, you find yourself rising up off the ground as Darkrai Psychically hoists you up into the middle of the circle. You rise a good fifteen feet into the air before being dropped unceremoniously to the ground below. You land hard on your back and the wind is promptly knocked out of you.

"As for your allies," Darkrai hisses, "I have only this."

He raises his arms and causes a heavy swell of black fog to pulsate from his body. The Haze envelops your Pokemon allies and causes their hard-earned stat boosts to suddenly plummet.

"If you still wish to do battle, though," Darkrai says, "I will comply. It is time for me to flex my muscles, as it were, and give you a taste of the sort of mercilessness all inhabitants of the Safari Zone can expect under my rule."

    ‡ Round 127 ‡

    Darkrai says nothing.

He then conjures up another flickering sphere much like the one he threw at Carson. He gives it a toss and it bursts against Brigitte, causing her to crumple. She then begins convulsing horribly.

"This will not be difficult," Darkrai murmurs at last.

    GREYFOX'S SAFARI ADVENTCHA!

    Grave's Yard
A frightening place where all the worst stories originate. Home to Ghost and Dark type pokemon, you may find a rare Psychic type, but only the bravest dare tread here.

    ‡ Round 128 ‡

Chopin starts buzzing its papery wings loud enough to kick up a mighty Uproar. The sound waves whip against Darkrai, doing decent damage, but the Legendary Pokemon only booms with laughter.

"A desperate bid to avoid Sleep," he remarks. "Interesting tactic, human, but ultimately fruitless."

He then whips up another dark sphere which breaks against Chopin. Your Kricketune falls and begins thrashing about on the ground much like Astrid, Carson and Brigitte. Wait, hold on. That... that doesn't even make sense. An Uproaring Pokemon put to Sleep?

"You need to understand that Darkrai isn't an ordinary Pokemon," Mistress Miyako says, preempting your confusion. "Ordinary rules don't necessarily apply to him. Uproar, Safeguard, Substitute... these attempts will not ward off his Dark Void. Snore and Sleep Talk will not be usable, either. There is only one way to protect yourself from Darkrai's signature move and that is by... by no later than noon, Astrid, and if you finish your exercises early then I'd like you to tidy up the bookshelves. Remember, child, habitual clutter clouds the Inner Eye!"

Meanwhile, Inverted Duckbot releases a trio of energy-based attacks. Darkrai cunningly evades the first attack only to get struck by the last two. Judging by the reddish tinge to Duckbot's Hidden Power, it dealt Fighting-type damage. Speaking of Fighting-type damage, Darkrai responds by obliterating Duckbot with a pair of Focus Blasts.

Mistress, now is not the time for your fits! Use Brick Break twice, then Super Power!

Duckbot, two more Hidden Powers, then another Signal Beam!

Director, work on waking up our sleepers!

A frightening place where all the worst stories originate. Home to Ghost and Dark type pokemon, you may find a rare Psychic type, but only the bravest dare tread here.

    ‡ Round 129 ‡

Mistress Miyako doesn't seem to notice your commands. Instead, she begins lecturing Astrid on the finer points of fortunetelling without seeming to notice that Astrid isn't exactly in the sort of state where she can properly listen. Meanwhile, Inverted Duckbot prepares for another Hidden Power, but a sudden speedy Dark Void catches the Porygon-Z unawares. Your fighter falls. However, whereas the others all started convulsing upon getting struck by Darkrai's signature move, Inverted Duckbot remains perfectly still. It lets out a gentle chirp.

The Park Director stands over Brigitte and tries shaking her, but she doesn't stir. He then Sketches up a gong which he begins ringing and a bullhorn which he blows in her ear. Hastening toward Chopin, the Director Sketches a pair of comically oversized gloves over his hands and begins Wake-Up Slapping your Kricketune. Chopin remains asleep.

"Come on, guys!" the Park Director says to the army of Ghosts still watching the battle. "Please, you need to do something... we have to stop Darkrai! We need to wake these guys up!"

The Ghosts, of course, do not respond.

    How do you proceed?
