Now that Nick is out of commission, Wolfsong has no choice but to recall her fallen Hydreigon and send a replacement onto the field. She throws her next Pokeball and the pagoda is filled with crimson light as a four-legged tank lumbers out into battle. However, the Alec is surprisingly swift on its feet: it jets off across the field and thrusts one of its legs forward, cocking Kys over the head and throwing her back a ways. If that weren't enough, Paralysis decides to do what Paralysis does best by clipping Kys's wings and rendering her immobile. Judging by that look on her face, she's barely holding on.

Kys pulls herself up, but she's no longer the speediest kid in town. Priority or no priority, Alec leaps into action before the Togekiss can even think about inching toward one of the orbs. Glistening stars fire across the field and shear off every last feather Kys has. With that, she slumps over after a terrific match.

The match is deadlocked two-all as the Gym Leader's Togekiss is returned to her Pokeball. DarkestLight pauses only momentarily before summoning his next fighter: a tall, agile mantis that flourishes its deadly pincers for all to see. Alec lets out a roar before slamming one of its weighty legs against the floor. Suddenly, rocks tumble down from the ceiling and trap Krauser in a makeshift tomb. All is still and silent for a moment before Krauser wriggles free, looking understandably miffed. I'd be a little peeved too if somebody wrapped me up in a blanket made of boulders. The Scizor's wings rapidly beat and kick up an otherworldly windstorm. Alec hunkers down against the gale. Even with the Technician boost, it's nothing he can't weather.

Krauser: <-5 HP; -4 EP; -1 Spd>
Alec Hardison: <-8 HP; -3 EP>

Alec slams its other leg against the pagoda flooring (which I'm sure is just doing wonders for the foundation) and causes the ground to rumble violently. Krauser tries to maintain its balance but is ultimately tripped up and taken down. Another windstorm rises, this one laced with silver. It seems to be slightly more effective than the last. Yippee?

Alec Hardison: <-10 HP; -8 EP>

Instead of outright attacking, Alec holds off and waits for Krauser to make the first move. The Scizor glides through the air with a pincer raised. At the last second, Alec takes careful aim and meets the Night Slash with a DynamicPunch. Both Steel-types are knocked backwards. Though Alec appears to have taken more damage thanks to a critical hit, Krauser seems a bit unbalanced after that hit. He stumbles. Buddy looks like he's riding the rum train all of a sudden.

With both battlers just about deadlocked, it's anybody's game. Alec decides it needs even more Speed and begins glowing as though smothered in polish. How exactly this raises its Speed is anyone's guess, but the Metagross definitely does look at least a little more agile. Krauser, meanwhile, seems to be having a hard go of things. He begins boxing himself in the face with its pincers. Ouch.

Krauser: <-3 HP Cfn>
Alec Hardison: <-4 EP; +2 Spd>

Alec gallops toward Krauser and clocks the armoured bug in the jaw with a zaptastic Electric punch. Krauser concentrates on clearing his head and... succeeds! Confusion no more! Callooh! Callay! Etcetera!

Alec Hardison: <-6 EP>

Suddenly, Alec gives a command and swell of jagged rocks materialize and crash downward from the ceiling. Argh! Krauser tries to take cover but isn't fast enough. The Scizor quickly winds up much like that centipede I found last night: squashed underneath the spine of my book. However, while that centipede died, Krauser remains alive as he eventually wiggles free from the rocks and stumbles toward the Wildfire orb. He picks it up and the accompanying suit of armour comes to life, smothering Alec in a steady assault of flamey goodness.

The battle rages on as one of Alec's arm/leg-things once again sizzles with electric current. Hrm, what to do with this thing? Oh, yeah, smack Krauser in the face with it, of course. And that's exactly what happens. And it hurts. But Krauser's all like bitch, please, and begins fluttering his wings in a manner than is both dainty yet extremely intimidating. Purplish gusts roll across the field and batter Alec's sturdy exterior, but not in the delicious way.

Alec Hardison: <-8 HP; -6 EP>

Alec waves his arm again and summons another bevy of rocks to tumble downward. Krauser begins moving with unpredictable Speed and avoids the onslaught... well, sort of. A number of stray boulders still manage to clip him and do partial damage.

Alec Hardison: <-3 EP>

Krauser suddenly smirks, opens his pincers and fires off a reddish blast a Fighting-type energy at Alec. The attack leaves a minor dent in the Metagross's sturdy enamel but doesn't do quite as much damage as the Earthquake to follow. Krauser tries to brace himself, but he's tossed harshly into the Wildfire pedestal. Nursing his back, Krauser begins fondly imagining a distant future in which he's a retired Scizor and doesn't have to deal with asshole Metagrosses anymore. Yep, that'll be the day.

Alec, who has maneuvered into a narrow lead, decides to try a little gamble. The Metagross begins to glow a brilliant shade of green as it fires off a series of little green orbs that... have very little effect on Krauser. The Scizor snickers. Amateur. He darts in toward Alec and channels his pain and anguish into a random physical strike. Hiyaah!

Deciding to try something a little more safe, Alec once again goes with what he knows: rocks, of course! A Rock Slide closes in upon Krauser and pins the beetle to the ground. Alec braces itself and waits for Krauser to emerge, but nothing happens. Hrm.

At last, Krauser finally wriggles free from all those pesky rocks... only to get squished by a dozen more. Alol. DL is going to need a pretty mighty Gym janitorial squad if he ever plans on removing all this fuggin things off the field once this battle is done. When at last the Scizor is freed again, he directs his annoyance toward the deliver of an even more effective Reversal. Bwah!

Spreading his wings wide, Krauser shoots off into the air and begins doing laps around the arena. As the Scizor grows nicely agile, Alec decides to put a kibosh on the big ol' Bug's eyesight as a blinding Flash ripples through the air. Krauser rubs his poor, sore eyes and scowls. Krauser might be the Bug here, but methinks Alec might be the true pest.

Krauser lands back down on the ground at the most inconvenient time. Alec slams a hoof-type thing against the floor and casts out a sea of miniature ripples that throw off the mantis's balance. Thrown harshly to the ground, Krauser nonetheless beats those widdle wings of his as hard as he can. Sonic ripples diffuse throughout the arena and buffet poor Alec mercilessly. Anybody got any earmuffs?

For approximately the one hundred kajillionth time this battle (give or take a kajillion or two) Alec releases a powerful Rock Slide all over his foe. Since I've run out of ways to describe a Scizor getting hit by a Rock Slide, I'm going to skip ahead to the part where Krauser retaliates with a silvery gust. As Alec hunkers down against the gale, Krauser receives a blessing. Huzzah!

Actually, wait, no so fast. Alas, a key resistance to Steel and a happy little boost to his Defence manage to keep Krauser alive and functioning. The Scizor retaliates with a surge of energy laced with luminous stars. The combo attack proves to be enough: Alec is hurtled backward and collapses against a wall. Night-night, soda can spider.

Krauser is only holding on by a hair as Wolfsong releases her next Pokemon, summoning the second Gallade of the match. The mantis and the warrior stare one another down before executing a mad blitz of attacks: stars, waves, poisonous gunk and a whole lot more fling every which way. Krauser, the Speedier of the two Pokemon, executes his moves just a little more rapidly, striking Jabin with his medley of moves before the Gallade can raise his defences. Thus, the Gallade is struck by Toxic before his Safeguard can fly up and his Vacuum Wave can end things for Krauser. Nonetheless, Krauser takes the minor hit and is swiftly overcome.

The mighty Bug falls.

The Gym Leader raises a Pokeball and returns Krauser for a nice, long rest. Reaching for another ball from his belt, the Gym Leader summons his final Pokemon to the field: a large, aggressive she-kangaroo. Darwin is first to attack and *DELETE* kicks things off with a wave of NORMAL-TYPE ENERGY 'CAUSE IT'S A FORESIGHT, which sweeps over Jabin and locks him into our plain of existence... whatever that means. Unsure entirely what just happened, Jabin nonetheless keeps things going with a pulsating wave of focused mental energy. The attack throws Darwin back a bit, but the kangaroo holds strong.

Darwin: <-8 HP; -4 EP>
Jabin: <-2 EP; For>

Shenanigans continue as Darwin locates an old sweater, some mints and free tickets for Dire Straits live in concert and somehow manages to craft all of them together into a stunning Kangaskhan replica! What skill! What vision! Jabin, meanwhile, tries to Double Team but his ability to produce clonie-clones has been compromised. Darn.

The real Darwin plods over to one of the remaining orbs, picks it up off the pedestal and causes a massive blast of Flying-type energy to be released from the accompanying suit of armour. Jabin is hurled backwards and lands in a crumpled heap. Poor guy. He gets back up and attacks the Substitute with a Poisonous Jab, managing to leave a noticeable dent.

Enjoying a comfortable lead over his foe, Darwin does her best to widen it as she conjures up a purdy little Shadow Ball and flings it madly at Jabin. The ball bursts against the warrior but, rather than retaliating, Jabin decides to score a few z's. Exhaustion washes over him as he keels over and Rests. His wounds begin to heal as the poison leaves his system.

Jabin: <-12 HP; +30 HP; -30 EP; Slp>

Darwin keeps up the assault with a furious Blizzard. Swells of snow and ice spill into the arena and whip against Jabin in a most unfriendly manner. Suddenly, the slumbering warrior leaps up like a charmed puppet and begins plodding over to Darwin. Zombie-Jabin then tears into the Kangaskhan's Substitute with a powerful Psycho Cut with almost enough strength to destroy the thing. Almost.

Jabin: <-12 HP; -5 EP>

Darwin strikes his foe hard with a second Shadow Ball, which carries the fortunate side-effect of causing Jabin's Special Defence to take a dip. Darwin barks laughter... and it's not a pretty sound. Jabin once again does the whole zombie/puppet shtick and leaps to his feat before shooting off a shimmering Electric beam. The beam destroys the Substitute and causes newfound strength to course through Jabin's body... not that he's, er, conscious enough to notice.
