So, what's with so many people trying to get badges? Especially newer people. There are challenges by people who only have their starting 4 pokemon floating in the archive over the last couple of months... Has the level of gym leader intimidation gone down, or do the newer members like public humiliation? If the former... GL's need to get their game together. If the latter... umm... sure. If that's how you get your jollies.

I can't imagine it's due to a lack of intimidation since no GL has lost a match in the past few months. I think this cohort of newbies is just especially fun and adventurous. Oslo approves.

Darkness arena has issues of it's own. And the only time I've tested the Gambler's Arena, I didn't think it was boring... Confusing, yes. Boring, only when Sableye/Stall hogged the spotlight. No longer a problem, since Stall doesn't do that anymore.

(For those who weren't around at the time, when abilities first came out, Stall allowed the user to post attacks second. It was pretty powerful. Now... I consider Stall a drawback, and took the oppurtunity to change to prankster when said oppurtunity was presented.)

So, in extension, Gym Leader battles should be fun. At least, it's only as fun as you make it.
For instance, I was being dramatic-as-hell in mine and Oslo's battle because it was fun. Therefore, that made the overall experience fun for me.

Second off... I view taking on the gyms as an indication that you think you are ready to take on gyms. When blade owned a gym (way, way back), he turned people away if he didn't think they were ready. (yeah, gym leaders have that right. little known fact)

Yeah. I'd be embarrassed if I got turned down. But, then again, I over-think everything and I probably will end up going a year or so without even challenging a gym anyway xD

I noticed an interesting omission in the TotA rules...

It says that the ref can't offer assistance, and that the GL can't downplay. But it doesn't say anything about third party assistance.

Would there be anything wrong with people sharing their battles? For example, I know someone was saying they thought Ayeun was intimidating. I found my battle against her to be a cakewalk. Would there be anything wrong with me giving him a link to my battle and some explanations of my choices, where they were specifically chosen because of Ayeun's gym?

There's no "written" rule for third party assistance being forbidden, but I would automatically assume there's a "gentlemen's agreement" that you should not automatically offer advice like that to anyone who's challenging a particular gym. If the person who is challenging makes the effort themselves to look at previous gym battles to formulate a strategy on Pokemon, moves, other actions, etc. then more power to them for being able to figure that out on their own. I remember I think Denny (Mew Master) got a bit miffed with someone (IIRC, it was DL but don't quite honestly know) mentioning how he was fond of using a Curse/Pain Split strategy with Ghost Pokemon.

So basically, it wouldn't be fair for the GLs if victors of their particular gym went around telling others how they should battle. Plus, its less fun than working through it yourself.

EDIT: I've been looking through my reffing of fp and Era's battle and feel like I'm losing my reffing mojo. Dunno how to get it back
