    ‡ Round 11 ‡

Time for a cameo from a familiar face! Meditite returns to the field with a flash of light, flexing his guns and looking thoroughly ready to finish things. He gives his hand a wave and calls up from the riverbed a legion of sea plants, which begin to wrap themselves around Barboach's narrow frame. The little fishy lets out a squeal and tries to Protect himself, but ohwaitlol, your master banned that move, remember? However, even with his double weakness to Grass, Barboach is too piddly of a Pokemon to take much damage from the move. Phew. Three cheers for manorexia.

    Barboach: <-4 HP; Can't move!>
    Meditite: <-1 HP fatigue>

Eager to finish off this ailing monkey once and for all, Barboach shoots out of the water and does what he does best: and that happens to be Aqua Tail, apparently! He slaps up Meditite with a wet and wild tail attack, but the simian merely responds by clobbering Barboach back into the water with a powerful punch. Om nom nom. Health. Good for what ails you.

    Barboach: <-13 HP; -7 EP>
    Meditite: <-11 HP; +7 HP; -3 HP fatigue>

Rinse and repeat. Barboach darts back out of the water and keeps up the Aqua Tailing, but another well-aimed Drain Punch knocks him clear out of battle.

    RIP Barboach: Round 8 - Round 11.

    Barboach: <-8 HP; -7 EP>
    Meditite: <-11 HP; +4 HP; -3 HP fatigue>

More Hail for Meditite <-3 HP>.

    ‡ Round 12 ‡

Okay, time to bring this diaper-wearing goon down once and for all. Ayeun's final selection is a colourful moth, who shudders as he flutters into the Hailstorm. A-brr. Mothim manages to pull out a few Acrobatic maneuvers before slamming hard into Meditite. Meditite tries to Counter the strike, but alas, he just doesn't have enough strength to pull that off. He kinda slams his arm weakly into the fluttery Bug, but it's not a very effective hit. With that, fatigue does what fatigue does best. Meditite falls.

Holy crap, he lasted a long time. What a tank.

    Mothim: <-2 HP; -4 EP>
    Meditite: <-11 HP; -1 HP fatigue>

Mothim catches a bit of Hail <-1 HP>.

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 13 ‡

New blood! Underscore's Darumaka waddles into battle and waves at Mothim, who smiles back. D'aww. Innit this nice. All niceties end, however, as Mothim dive-tackles his foe. Darumaka merely crushes him beneath a bed of rocks. So much for a happy, congenial match.

    Mothim: <-16 HP; -4 EP>
    Darumaka: <-8 HP; -6 EP>

The battlers trade off new attacks: Air Slash and Fire Blast! Yippee! Darumaka is mowed over by the razor-sharp blade of air, but Mothim is positively incinerated by the little eggie's hot attack. When all is said and done, the Bug is left with a nasty Burn.

    Mothim: <-20 HP; -6 EP; Brn>
    Darumaka: <-10 HP; -10 EP>

The round ends as Mothim dishes out some more Acrobatic lunacy. Darumaka uses another Fire Blast, but it barely does a thing. What's up, damage cap?

    Mothim: <-4 HP capped; -4 EP>
    Darumaka: <-7 HP; -10 EP>

Darumaka takes Hail damage <-3 HP> while any harm Mothim would have taken from the weather or his Burn is once again mitigated by the damage cap.

    ‡ Pre-Round ‡

    ‡ Round 15 ‡

The curtains part. The lights go up. Our scene: interior of a dimly lit bordello, where the men are manly and the women are three for a Buffalo nickel. The air is heavy with cigarette smoke. Cigarette smoke and the sultry wail of a saxophone. Cigarette smoke and sultry wail of a saxophone and even more cigarette smoke. It's a world not yet ravaged by the cruel hand of the Great Depression or Chelsea Lately. The main players lock eyes across the craps table.

"The gig's up, wise guy," Darumaka says in a gruff, sexy baritone, accepting a drink from a scantily-clad Corphish waitress who giggles coyly. "Thought you could bump me and scram, eh? Figured it would be easier than a gooseberry lay? Sorry, mister. Luck ain't your lady tonight."

Mothim watches as Darumaka takes a cool, self-assured swig of scotch.

"Hah!" Mothim blurts out between long drags of his nine and a half cigarettes. "Joke's on you, sap! I laced your drink with Sleep Powder! Prepare for the big sleep. Tonight, you're bunking with Satan."

"Sleep Powder?" Darumaka responds with a savvy chuckle. "Why, that's... not even a move you can legally use according to Bulbapedia!"

The air is filled with gasps! The music stops! The Corphish waitress passes out! Or maybe she just tripped on a slippy spot! Either way, Darumaka whips out his revolver. It has the word "Betsy" engraved in the side, named after a leggy dame worth more than her weight in trouble. The word "revolver" is also engraved there as well, named after the fact that it's a revolver and sometimes it just makes sense to label your possessions.

"It's been a gas, Slick," Darumaka whispers, downing the rest of his scotch in one swig. "Enjoy the Harlem sunset."

He pulls the trigger. With one Fire Blast, it's done. Mothim falls.

"Say, broad," Darumaka says to the Corphish waitress as he helps her up, "how do you feel about us heading out back and knocking boots together? I'll show you a derringer that will really blow your mind."

End scene. The curtains close. The lights fall. The crowd cheers. The reviews are ecstatic but maybe that's just because it's been a slow season. The production sweeps the Tonys. Darumaka wins for Best Leading Actor and is forever enshrined as the greatest crimson oval monkey thing of his generation. Mothim wins for Best Featured Actor but later has to give up the trophy after it's been proven that he used performance-enhancing drugs to make himself really, really good at acting. Decades later, the play is adapted into an HBO miniseries directed by Sophia Coppola. It's okay. She's done worse.

    THE END

    Mothim: <-17 HP; Can't move!>
    Darumaka: <-10 EP>

    ‡ Post-Round ‡

And that's that! And yeah, if the thingy didn't make it clear, Mothim doesn't learn Sleep Powder so it failed. Wah-wah. Underscore, for annihilating Ayeun, you win eight points. Ayeun gets four and I get eight. Later!

*disappears in a puff of cigarette smoke*
