But we have to do something about this Spinarak Horde, Erandal'e. make sure to use Round at the other door, to make them think we went the other way, then we head straight for the basement.

You decide to give the Spinarak horde the slip, using Erandal'e's sonic skillz to lure them in the wrong direction. You then open the basement door, slip inside with your Pokemon and shut it behind you. You pause for a second with your ear to the door to ensure the horde has left and, judging by the scuttling noise growing louder and then quieter, you're pretty sure the coast is clear. Phew. With Carlos continuing to illuminate your surroundings, you turn around and see something waiting for you at the bottom of the steps... or, rather, several somethings.



Frack.

You can also hear the flapping of wings from somewhere nearby.

I hate this house already. What am I doing with my life? Why do I... Puma, keep focus. Okay, We are so screwed. Carlos, uhm. Well. I want you to direct a flash at the ceiling, and try not alarm the spiderz horde. I really don't want to be running away AGAIN. Especially with these Spinaraks probably noticing we didn't go where they thought we would.

Okay, keep calm and use flash! At the ceiling! And before I screw up anything, I won't move a muscle. If any of them approach us, I'll have a little chat while looking on the ceiling. Also, Erandal'e, while the Carlos lightens it up, Fly up and check for potential Pokémon there. The flapping must be something after all.

The horde watches you with interest.



"Golly gee, visitors!" one of the Ariados squeals, clapping his legs together. "Ahh! I'm so excited! We haven't had visitors in, like, forever!"

"Nick, throw together a cheese platter for them, pronto!" another Ariados chimes in. "Hello, visitors! Welcome to our grotto! Can we get you anything? Some sparkling Fresh Water? A Lava Cookie, perhaps? They really hit the spot!"

Meanwhile, you investigate the sound of the flapping. Carlos directs his Flash at the ceiling and Erandal'e flutters toward the noise. Your gaze falls upon a trio of Zubat.



The bats shriek because of the harsh light and fly away down a tunnel.

"Oh, how rude of them!" another Ariados says. "You just wanted to say hello and they flew away before you got an opportunity! Zubat truly are the rudest creatures. Harrumph!"

"Oh, that was unexpected! Excuse me if that sounded rude or anything, but your fellow Spinaraks there in the room before chased us down before we could reason with them.

"The Spinarak upstairs chased you?" one of them replies. "They haven't any manners whatsoever! We invite them to our Yahtzee nights but they never show up! No RSVP, either! They're worse than the Zubat!"

"Feel free to light up the basement if you wish," another Ariados says. "It certainly must seem very dreary to you. However, if you're chasing Zubat, light may not be the best idea. They don't much care for it, see, and will flee from it every chance they get. It would be like trying to catch a fish with a stereo system!"

Suddenly, one of the Ariados scuttles up to you holding a cheese platter. Gouda, gruyere, camembert... they've got it all!

"I'm terribly sorry, but I have to reject your friendly offer for now. These Zubats are escaping and get farther away while we are talking. I do have a little question though, before I depart, you sure know a lot about this place, and navigate a lot more secure than I do. May I ask for a little company while I'm here? We could have a little longer chat after we caught up with the Zubats."

Is it me or are we incredible fast with the safari trip? : D Like, in terms of time, not like length or anything. I sure as hell enjoy it a lot!

You ask for accompaniment through the mansion's basement tunnels.



"Sure!" the Ariados holding the cheese platter says. "The name's Nick. I'd be glad to help you out! I'll lead the way!"

You follow Nick down the tunnel where the Zubat trio vanished. It comes out into a small room with a few empty wine barrels scattered about. The path seems to fork in two directions, left and right, without any indication where the Zubat might have gone.

"Dunno what to tell you, pal," Nick says, scratching his head. "They could have gone in either direction to be entirely truthful."

You get Erandal'e to use another Round. The sound waves reverberate against the cobbled walls but you get no response. You then instruct Carlos to discontinue his Flash. His light goes dim and you're plunged into complete blackness once more.

"Well. That was dumb.
Uhm, we'll keep the light down none the less, we might get them return to their previous spot. So let's move quietly onward. Nick, take the lead, we'll just take any direction, except going back."

Carlos lights another Flash but keeps it dim and Nick takes the lead, guiding you down one of the tunnels at random. It's so narrow that you need to trudge onward in single-file. Soon, you're forced to stop your procession as your path is blocked by a slumbering Pokemon. Its golden exterior glistens in Carlos's glow.



The pathway is tight enough that you can't go around it. The ceiling is high enough that you could perhaps climb over it, but that seems slightly risky.

Fufufu... This looks like big explosions. And I guess that would be way too risky. I guess that's a job for Carlos, the most charming Slowpoke in existence.
Carlos, approach him slowly, and wake it up gently. If it is female, try to attract, however, if it instantly lights up to explode, I want you and Erandal'e to combine forces and double the protect action to keep us somewhat safe. We'll need to get these Zubats!

You send Carlos to make contact with Forretress. Your Slowpoke slowly ambles up to the armoured bagworm and pokes it gently. Forretress stirs and then opens its eyes, looking none too pleased at having been disturbed. Carlos, however, seems to know that this Forretress is indeed a female (not sure how he can tell?) and uses Attract against her. She sighs dreamily and seems immediately quite smitten with Carlos. She begins hopping forward and nuzzling him. Carlos lets out a yelp as Forretress now has him squashed against a wall with her rather aggressive nuzzles. It looks fairly painful.

That was... uhm... unfortunate I guess.
Carlos, try to convince her to move a bit with us, until she could get out of the way. If she doesn't respond, whatever, I'll have to recall you for now, and prepare for the wrath of her explosion that is probably soon to follow. If I need to recall you, Erandal'e, make sure to use protect while we retreat, Nick, I don't want you to get damage by my actions, so make sure to get ahead.

I seriously hope we are able to get across this way. If she doesn't explode, we might as well ask her if she noticed anything flappery while she was asleep.

OK. I'm going to try and force the box open. If I hear Nina coming back, I'll stop and warn whatever is inside to stay quiet. If not, then I'll try and pry open to lid enough to let whatever is inside, out, then push the lid down so it doesn't look like it's been forced.

You try to get Carlos to encourage Forretress to move, but she seems to insistent on nuzzling the bajeebuz out of him. With no other choice, you recall your Slowpoke... which doesn't leave Forretress too happy. She glows white and that's Erandal'e's cue to encase you, Nick and herself in a Protect. A loud bang sounds around you and dust flies up. When everything clears and Erandal'e is free to lower her Protect, you see a passageway has been blown open in a nearby wall. There appear to be steps leading even deeper beneath the ground. At the the end of the tunnel, in the next room, you can hear the squeaks and flapping of the Zubat. The Explosion seems to have frightened them.

With no indication that Nina is about to come back, you spy a crowbar beside the crate and use it to pry the lid off. It takes a moment but soon enough you manage to remove the top... at which point something pops out. It's small and rusted and looks like, well, an arm.



The robotic arm begins scuttling around on the floor. It hurries up to you and begins tugging rather insistently on your pant leg. How bizarre.

Remember the passage for now Erandal'e, you should be good at that. Mark it with a precise pluck. In the meantime, we rush ahead to these Zubats and give chase!

Weird.

"Hey there, little arm. Are you ok? One tug for yes two for no. I know I wont be able to ask you what's wrong, but I can hazard a guess. Your part of Registeel, and you're separated from your whole. Well, you're in luck, I'm aiming to put you back together. But in order to do that, we're going to have to get out of here."

Keeping track of where the tunnel entrance is, you scurry down the rest of the tunnel and into the next room. It's a dead-end. Here you see the three Zubat perched on the floor hugging one another. They're shivering with fright.



The Explosion seems to have put quite a scare in them.

You speak to the robotic arm. It seems to be able to hear you just fine, but can't speak. When you ask whether it's okay, it deliberately tugs twice on your pant leg.



It then starts tugging more. It looks like it's trying to communicate something to you.

You approach the Zubat trio and try to strike up a conversation with them, but they seem too frightened. As you step forward, they shuffle back to the furthest corner of the room where they continue to huddle.



"Looks like you'll have to try something else to gain their trust," Nick says.

Murkrow, I guess I'll have to recall you for now.
Let's just sit on the ground. Carlos, I will need your assistance here again. Let's try to calm them down by relaxing. Use Calm Mind, and look as derpy as ever. If that doesn't work, go for Amnesia and let them forget the "horrible" things that happened.

However, if they try to escape, I'll have no other choice then blocking their path, without talking to them first.

You recalled Erandal'e and summon Carlos instead. Sitting down, you send Carlos plodding toward the Zubat. He looks at the derpishly for a moment and then strikes up a conversation. You can't hear what he's saying, but it seems to put the Zubat at ease. They look decidedly less tense.



After several minutes, the Zubat are conversing animatedly with Carlos. One of them even challenges him to a battle!

Carlos, you are one charming Slowpoke.
Okay, I guess we are doing this now! Nick, would you please make sure the other two don't just fly away? Afterall, I need two of 'em.

Good Carlos, we can take on a Zubat I guess. But first, ask him if he'd be okay with joining our ranks after we did that. If yes, let's have a battle!

Start off strong by using scald, then use the water from that to wash the Zubat again with Surf, finish with Psychic!

Also, if he wants to stop the battle earlier, let it be! We don't do some fighting for the death here.

It's battle time! Nick scuttles to the exit, ready to Spider Web any potential escapees, while Carlos asks whether Zubat would consent to being captured should your team win. She pauses in consideration and then eventually nods her consent. Well, that's that, then!

As the battle begins, Zubat does what Zubat do best: Supersonic! A horrible wailing noise fills the air and Carlos soon finds himself Confused. (More Confused than he normally is, anyway.) However, he's still able to shoot off a sizzling Scald which not only makes contact but which also leaves an unfortunate Burn. Zubat moans, hisses and then retaliates with a Giga Drain. (Carlos getting Giga Drained? Why does this seem somehow familiar?) She sucks Carlos's health away as your Slowpoke, too Confused to function, headbutts a nearby wall. Zubat cackles and fires a Shadow Ball at him. It bursts upon impact, but he recovers swiftly and uses Psychic to smash Zubat hard into the ceiling. It looks like his Confusion has abated. That's a relief!

Zubat's Burn then flares up for her.

Without warning, Zubat makes a sudden horking noise and spews hot Toxic gunk all over Carlos. It sizzles into his skin and leaves him rather nauseated, but he's still able to pull through and fight back with some more Psychic akshun. Zubat is hammered against the ground like, well, a hammer, and she fights back with a pair of Shadow Balls. Carlos is overwhelmed by the powerful strike and event loses some Special Defence in the process, but his Psychic + Psyshock combo manages to throw just as much damage back at Zubat... if not more.

Zubat's Burn and Carlos's Toxin give them some grief.

We are not going anywhere with this battle. I don't want you to get knocked out here Carlos, so, we'll have to either end this quick, or push Zubat to ending this battle by herself. Alright! I know exactly what to do.

First, since we are not confused, which is good, we should go for more Psychic Power. But this time, with far more power!
Carlos, put your strength to the test! I want you to combine the power of Zen Headbutt with Psychic, so you boost yourself to higher speed levels. Finish with another Psyshock.

If that does the trick, I'll thank the Zubat for this great battle and throw my Pokéball, as well as ordering Carlos to rest. Even if that means less light for us, you did a great job there! If it helps I also recall him, as well as releasing Erandal'e again.

Time for Zubat to get tricky. Carlos comes lumbering forward to deliver a Psychic-infused Zen Headbutt, but with a single Protect Zubat stops the combo wholesale. Zubat follows it up with a pair of Air Slashes, which cause Carlos to flinch. Hrm. You throw your Pokeball at Zubat and she's sucked inside. The ball lands on the ground and begins to move about.

Wiggle.

Wiggle.

Wiggle—

With a flash of light, Zubat emerges. No! She and Carlos are then further afflicted by their respective statuses.

Well, I didn't want to throw it if my combo wouldn't have worked out, since this would've been kind of an insult for the little bugger, but she didn't get pissed, so I think that's fine!

Carlos, we are in serious troubles now. I didn't think of protect and I'm sorry for that.
I hope we manage to pull this off, Carlos, start a Protect + Attract Combo, so the Chance of hitting you shrinks a tiny little bit, afterwards, go for Confusion and bend the light, so the Zubat gets confused! Which makes sense! I guess!
(Regarding they reacted to light before, this SHOULD work)

If confusion doesn't work because whatever, just go for a rest. We need to get rid of that Toxic!

Time to curbstomp this pesky Zubat! She tries to swoop in for another Giga Drain, but Carlos parries her attempt with a Protect. He then stares at her lovingly and induces immediate Attraction. (Carlos has been quite the little heartthrob lately, eh?) When Carlos's Protect falls, Zubat perches on his head and plants little kisses between his eyes. Aww. It's practically adorable, up until the point when Carlos sends her tumbling through the air with a well-aimed Confusion. She shrieks, swoops wide and prepares to zoom in to deliver a mighty counter-attack... but she's instead collides face-first with your Pokeball, which you've just thrown. Again, Zubat is sucked inside.

Wiggle.

Wiggle.

Wiggle.

Click!

With that, the Pokeball Teleports away to the Safari Zone front desk. Success!

"Bravo!" Nick cheers. "That was simply spiffing!"

This was an amazing battle, I have to say. Good Job Carlos! Also, I'll have to tell Zubat she did an amazing job too. Carlos, use Rest, and and go back into your Pokéball. I know it's going to be dark, but you need to heal from your injuries.

Also releasing Erandal'e. "Thanks for the compliment Nick! I appreciate it. Back to you two Zubats, anyone of you volunteer to join my team? I will try as hard as I can, to get the potential your friend showed right there to the surface."

After a well-fought battle, you instruct Carlos to use Rest and then return him to his Pokeball. The room is plunged back into darkness, but Nick graciously uses a Flash of his own to illuminate your surroundings once more. What a nice guy! You then send out Erandal'e address the two remaining Zubat, asking whether they'd like the join your team.



The first one doesn't look particularly enthused by the idea but the second waves her wing about.

"I'll join you! I'll join you!" she squeaks. "That battle was awesome! It's a deal!"

The Zubat voluntarily joins your squad and you catch her in a Pokeball. Huzzah! With Nick continuing to light the way, you return to the passage Forretress opened up earlier. Though the bagworm is absent, the opening is still visible. You see stairs winding down into darkness and take them cautiously until you reach level ground. You step out and find yourself immersed in a sea of dusty, vacant prison cells. It looks like this place might have been used as a prison once upon a time. Various corridors go off in all sorts of directions and, not far ahead, you see a Pawniard sharpening his blades against a whetstone. He doesn't seem to have noticed you.

Deciding this place isn't where you want to be, you backtrack and take the stairs back up into the mansion's basement. You wind through the tunnels until you return the Ariados dwelling. The spiders are still there waiting for you.



"Our visitor has returned!" one of the Ariados says, clapping his legs together. The entire colony looks equally excited to see you. "Oh, jolly good! We missed you! Did you enjoy looking around? Get up to any exciting antics?"
