As this goes on, Charles pulls some sort of net out of his bag. He tosses it at Manaphy, who's caught off-guard by the sudden attack. As Manaphy is ensnared, the net starts to flash and sizzle with electric current. Manaphy lets out a cry of pain as its body is electrocuted.

You send Chie to check on Caridea while you, Bulbob and Rosalinda head off the find the source of the noise. However, as it turns out, your separate tasks lead you to the same location. All four of you happen upon the same clearing within the patch of kelp. There in the middle is Caridea, nursing her right claw. Senic is floating in the water beside her with a look of concern on her face.

"Where did your attacker go?" Senic asks.

Caridea uses her uninjured claw to gesture toward the kelp. There, at the edge of the clearing, you see something small nestled at the base of one of the aquatic plants. Sure enough, it's the little lost Mantyke. His skin is a dull yellowish colour and his eyes are bright and red. His breathing (or, rather, his "respiring" to use the proper term) is raspy and laboured.



"You didn't have to bite me," Caridea says. "We're only here to help you."

Though he looks dangerously ill, Mantyke doesn't seem to want any help.

He charges through the water toward Rosalinda, who immobilizes him by grabbing onto his wings. Mantyke struggles against Rosalinda's grip and gnashes his teeth. It looks like he's trying to bite Rosalinda. She looks at you for further instructions.

"I've never seen anything like this," Senic says. "I'm not certain what we should do next. We could take him to a Pokemon Center for treatment? Release him into the clean water outside the bay and see if that does him any good? Find some Mantine and see if they know what to do? Try to track down a Max Restore? Your guess is as good as mine."

Meanwhile, Caridea continues nursing her bitten claw.

"I didn't even think Mantyke could learn Bite," she says. "How come this stings so bad?"

Rosalinda uses Hypnosis on Mantyke and Caridea. However, since both Pokemon are contained within the perimeter of her Safeguard, they're immune to the move. Rosalinda then uses Teleport. You leave the bay behind and then find yourself way out in the ocean, which is significantly cleaner than the water you were swimming in before. The surface is just a few feet above you.

"Woah, what gives?" Caridea says, peering at you and Rosalinda angrily. "I get why you'd want to sedate Mantyke, but why Hypnotize me?"

In the distance, you see a school of Horsea and Seadra swimming by.



Mantyke loses interest in trying to attack Rosalinda. With his eyes on the seahorses, he struggles against your Gardevoir's grip.



Because Rosalinda's upper-body strength isn't so good, she loses her hold on Mantyke. The little infant starts swimming madly toward the Horsea and Seadra.

You then yell a warning to the Horsea and Seadra.



You're not sure what part of this whole scene surprises them most: the puke-coloured Mantyke, the bubble-headed human or the fact that there's a Latios swimming around in the ocean. Either way, they turn around and get the heck out of Dodge.

"What do you mean, you don't want to take any chances?" Caridea asks.

"I'd really like to know what you're thinking right now, BTPoke," Senic says. "I'm starting to get concerned."

You send Bulbob off to find help. Chie takes over the Dive effect, ensuring your oxygen bubble remains intact.

"A zombie?" Senic says. "So... does that mean..."

Everyone looks over at Caridea.

"That's ridiculous," Caridea says. "Zombies aren't real. They're just something humans made up to freak each other out. Besides, Mantyke have the weensiest teeth. He barely even pierced my exoskeleton. There's no way that little nibble could do anything to me."

That said, she continues to nurse her wounded claw. Meanwhile, Rosalinda closes her eyes and tries to read Mantyke's mind. She transmits the image to you... which turns out to be nothing but a blank. Rosalinda raises a brow. Either the technique didn't work or there's nothing in Mantyke's mind to transmit. Surely no living creature could have such an empty head?

Bulbob is gone for quite some time—roughly half an hour by your estimates. You begin to wonder if something happened to him, though you're more concerned with Caridea, who's growing progressively weaker by the minute. Her claw is changing colour, inflaming and forming pus. Eventually, you see your Lanturn swimming back toward you. He's accompanied by a Jellicent.



"Salutations!" the Jellicent says, shaking your hand enthusiastically. "My name is Professor Maxwell Jellybottom. I used to be a researcher in Aqueous Ruins until my retirement two years ago. Or was that three years ago? No. It was four. Yes, definitely four years ago, because that's when my oldest got married—or was that my youngest? Oho, the mind doesn't work as well as it used to! Regardless, your Lanturn tells me there's something amiss with this little rapskallion."

Meanwhile, the "rapskallion" continues thrashing unsuccessfully against the Telekinetic hold. It snaps its teeth aggressively.

You give instructions to Rosalinda. She Teleports over to Caridea, locks eyes with her and lulls her to Sleep with a Hypnosis. Caridea's limp body floats there in the water. Meanwhile, you provide Professor Jellybottom with more information.



"A sewage leak? Positively fascinating," he says, twirling his moustache. "Yes, yes, samples are a must. If we can isolate the properties in the water that infected Mantyke, perhaps we can—oh no, by Arceus's beard, this isn't good!"

He points in Rosalinda's direction. You glance over and watch as the frenzy of Sharpedo starts swimming toward her as fast as, well, a torpedo.



One of them opens its mouth wide and sinks its fangs into Rosalinda's skirt. It then starts dragging her downward toward the ocean floor. She leaves the perimeter of the Dive effect, causing the oxygen bubble around her head to burst.

As Rosalinda is dragged into the dark waters below, you send Bulbob after her. They're gone for a few tense moments, during which you begin to worry. Fortunately, Chie maintains his Telekinetic hold on Mantyke.



You then see a few bright flashes of electricity below. After another few moments, you see Bulbob swimming back up toward you with Rosalinda holding onto his tail. A new Dive bubble has materialized around her head. The Sharpedo are gone. Professor Jellybottom claps his tentacles together.



"Oho, I thought we were sunk for sure!" he says. "A smashing effort, you two! Bravo! With that taken care of, I suspect we have two options. We can either head to Mantine Bay and draw some samples of the polluted water or we can head straight to my old lab on the outskirts of Aqueous Ruins. There are some tanks there we can use to quarantine the Mantyke and Clauncher. I recommend the latter option, as we don't know how long we have before your Clauncher friend is, ah, zombified, in which case she might become quite a handful, but the choice is yours."

Meanwhile, Senic swims over to Caridea, whose slumbering body remains suspended in the water. He watches his friend with a look of great sadness.
