You tear through Sunshine Fields as the landscape slowly becomes more and more rugged. You eventually cross the threshold into Crush Quarry. Peering down at the great basin, you see Team Aqua and Team Magma are engaged in a vicious battle.







They've all released Water- and Fire-type Pokemon, which are trading off powerful attacks. Errant moves are striking the rocky landscape, slowly destroying your surroundings. Meanwhile, local Pokemon continue to climb out of the flooded mining tunnels. They're sopping wet.



"Senka, Father, Terrakion and Keldeo don't seem to have arrived yet," Cobalion says. "We are fortunate in that regard."

Without any of the Aqua or Magma grunts noticing, you climb down some rocks into the basin and quietly gesture for Mienfoo and Axew to follow you. They seem surprised to see a Manaphy here in the middle of all this chaos, but they follow you nonetheless.



You then climb back up the rocks and search around the perimeter of Crush Quarry for the displaced Pokemon you encountered before. Sure enough, after a few minutes of searching, you locate them in the shade of a tall rock formation. Their numbers have increased since you were last here.







"Manaphy, you're back," Larvitar says, "and you don't have that human with you."

Darwin lets out a roar and creates a mighty Fissure, corralling the humans away from the entrance to the mining tunnels. They shout at you with frustration and confusion. The Mega Blastoise, who have been pumping water into the tunnels this whole time, stop what they're doing. They look down into the grinding chasm of rocks you've created and decide to tiptoe backwards instead.



Vigilance, who has been scouting overhead, lets out a squawk to indicate that the Musketeers are approaching the area. Suddenly, gale-force winds erupt as Vigilance uses a Hurricane. Inclement weather consumes the quarry. Ain't nobody gonna stop you from performing a rescue mission now!

"Phew," Senic says, leaning back against an empty shelf. No longer bolted to the floor, the shelf wobbles back and forth before eventually falling to the ground with a tremendous clattering noise. Senic claps his hands to his mouth.

You wait in silence. This is it. Surely this is it. They had to have heard that. There's no way they're not going to come and eat your brains. However, miraculously, nothing happens. You've been spared...

...except, no, you really haven't. The Jigglypuff zombies reappear out in the street. In unison, they start waddling toward the Poke Mart with a look of hunger in their big red eyes.

Your teammates and some of the displaced locals help to evacuate the mining tunnels, but you spy a few passageways that are completely flooded. Since you're presently occupying the body of a Water-type Pokemon, you dive in and happily discover that you're able to breathe under the surface. Huzzah! You use your flippers to propel yourself through the maze of flooded tunnels. When you eventually come back up, you find yourself in a large underground cavern. Water has filled most of the room and only a small air pocket separates the surface from the rocky ceiling. Glancing over, you see a few Pokemon are clinging to a narrow ledge. They all seem to be children.



"Help!" one of them shouts, trying hard to keep his balance. "I can't swim!"

You and Senic clamber through a door into the back area of the Poke Mart. You find yourself in a very small storage room, which has already been looted clean. At the very back is another door, which you open. Thankfully, you find yourself outside in a back alleyway. Hooray! Freedom!

Or... not.

You look left. Twenty feet away, a zombified Espurr blocks the mouth of the alley.



You look right. Twenty feet away, another zombified Espurr blocks the other mouth of the alley.



Meanwhile, you can hear the Jigglypuff horde climbing into the Poke Mart through the smashed front window.

You face down one of the zombie Espurr and get Senic to use Shadow Sneak.



He grabs a hold of your arm and all goes black as you melt into the shadows. When you emerge back into the physical world, you find yourself on the other side of the Espurr. Your plan was a successs! Espurr turns around and stares at you dully. Instead of staying to chat, you make a break for the adjoining street and continue trekking toward the radio tower.

After a while longer, you eventually see it: a tapered steel structure looming over the adjacent buildings. As you draw closer, roughly two hundred feet from the base of the radio tower, you see that the entrance is blocked by a group of zombified Loudred.



Of course it is.

"I don't know if my Shadow Sneak has enough distance or precision to get us under that front door," Senic says.

"I might be able to freeze them both in place with a Disable + Disable combo," he says. "Maintaining it long enough for us to get inside will be tricky, but I think it can be done. Alternatively, I could run up to them and get them to chase me away from the entrance long enough for you to slip inside. Even if they catch me, as a Poison-type, I might be immune to the virus. Mayor Garbodor seemed to think Poison-types would be immune... but I guess she was wrong about a lot of stuff. I'm willing to take the risk if it might help us fix all of this, though."

You get the weak swimmers to grab onto the strong swimmers and use Dive. Oxygen bubbles appear around the Crush Quarry children's heads. They still look a little apprehensive, but they nonetheless hop after you into the water.



They don't seem to like the water, especially the ones with a weakness to that particular element, but they're able to follow along with you as you lead them through the flooded mining tunnels toward the exit. After a good minute or two, you emerge back outside with the children safely in tow. The children join up with their parents, who look overjoyed. The battle between Team Aqua and Team Magma still seems to be continuing, albeit on the far side of Darwin's Fissures.

"I think we got all the Crush Quarry Pokemon evacuated, DarkestLight," Elegance says with a nod.

Glancing up at the rim of the quarry, you see four familiar figures gazing down at the ensuing chaos.



"Humans, listen!" Senka booms. "Your hubris has carried on far too long. You have used the homes of innocent Pokemon as the location of your petty disputes for far too long. We are here to destroy you... and then we will destroy every other human who continues to set foot in the Safari Zone! If it takes violence and bloodshed to turn the Safari Zone into a safe place for Pokemon to exist, then so be it."

"I wonder if I'm the only one who finds it peculiar that Senka and Father, two humans, are waging a war against their own kind?" Cobalion murmurs.

Suddenly, the Boldore you encountered earlier tugs at your flipper.



"Manaphy, please, my other child is still inside," he says. "Someone said they last saw her exploring the Underground Mausoleum, the section of the mining tunnels furthest beneath the earth where fossils are all located. Please, I need you to swim down there and try to find her."

You head back into the flooded tunnels to find the one remaining Pokemon. You swim around for a good while in search of the Underground Mausoleum, though navigating the area proves to be a little tricky. Eventually, you find a marked mine shaft with an arrow pointing downward, so you follow the tunnel until you find yourself in a particularly narrow and cramped part of Crush Quarry. You surface and see that there's a tiny air pocket of no more than a couple of inches separating the ceiling from the water. You look around for the missing Pokemon. You don't see anything right away, but there's a lot of mausoleum left to search and it's awfully dark down here.

Suddenly, a chunk of rock falls from the ceiling, creating a small hole that water begins to stream through. Another rock falls, allowing even more water to enter the mausoleum. You realize that all the weight of the water that has flooded the upper chambers is ever so slowly causing this area to cave in.

An Old Amber dislodges from the ceiling and bops you on the head. Ow.

As though Crush Quarry itself were handing you a Christmas present, you take the Old Amber and continue searching for the lost Pokemon. Eventually, you find her: a Roggenrola desperately clinging to the jagged wall as water rushes around her and the air pocket grows smaller and smaller.



Roggenrola catches sight of you and seems startled.

"What... what's going on?" Roggenrola says, sounding panicked. "A Manaphy? You did this, didn't you? You must be the reason everything is flooding and caving in! I'll... I'll fight you!"

Suddenly, Roggenrola shoots off a Smack Down that goes wide and strikes the ceiling. A slab of rock bigger than you containing both Jaw and Sail Fossils falls and misses you by inches, allowing even more water to violently gush into the mausoleum. You don't have much longer before this entire place is flooded or caved in or both.
