Jyre Mennoche ~ Vampire
-------------------------------------------------

I had been leaning easily against a tree when I caught the scent of something nearby. Something… No, it was someone. Someone with a very strange scent and an unusual mind. Hmm, that wasn’t entirely a shock as there were others gathered near who were not human, but this was one that I’d not often felt. Perhaps I’d never felt this before but, ah, there was some part of me that reflected on a distant memory. Maybe some time long ago, I had seen one of these… What this was.

How very interesting. Was this one a part of the current goings on, or was he here by a pure coincidence? Was there coincidence in this world? Sometimes it seemed as if there was precious little, if indeed there was any.

Musing, I started toward where he was. Allow the being hear me first, or appear out of the shadows without warning? All right, I was feeling fairly generous at the time. I walked almost as a human would, failing to avoid the crunch of the sticks underfoot and the shuffle of fallen leaves. My steps were quiet, barely discernable even with the sounds of nature on the forest floor, but the noises were picked up. This creature must have had some sort of developed hearing, because I sensed a change in the being’s bizarre mind; there was a sudden alertness throughout the body.

Right then, there was the warning. Back to silence, and now ready to close in on the being. I glanced at his vague outline as he scanned the shadows before I stepped toward him. He hadn’t seen me before he turned toward what I realized must have been his dwelling--a cave--and saw that I was standing almost next to him.

As he froze in his tracks, his mind racing, I studied him, his form. At a first glance, he looked to be human; my senses, however, told me that he wasn’t. Indeed this was a male, his facial expression conveying some amount of confusion, with an assortment of clothing that one was hard-pressed to find nowadays. Legally, but which seemed to appear quite often. I preferred the dark simplicity of black, yes, but who was I to choose what others wore? It was really quite interesting to see what they chose.

All right, if this guy wasn’t human, what was he? My eyes narrowed slightly, studying his form as if there were light enough to see for miles. There wasn’t, of course, but a vampire is ever-so-blessed with the ability to see much more clearly in the night than any human can during the day. Whoo.

There it was. Of course, I was a fool, wasn’t I? The blue hair--nay, fur--that was currently clinging to and then falling from his skin spoke the truth that should have been obvious. He was a… What were they called again? Lycanthrope? Right, that was it. A lycanthrope, bloody hell--they were less common than vampires, and much less known. Lucky him.

“Good evening, Sir,” I allowed a slow smile to cross my face, drawing it more maliciously than I felt was necessary given my mood, but was quite necessary given his current expectations. The ruddy bastard was worried. Hell, he was freaked out. Ah, perhaps with good reason, but I wasn’t about to do anything to him. Why bother? Nothing save the blood of a human is truly substantial, after all. Ah, but he didn’t know that yet, and it was entertaining to watch him.

I took a few steps forward, then started to reach for his neck. Ah, Gods, even the neck of a creature other than a human was lovely to look at, that what ran within it was never quite the same. Reaching m fingers out to brush his neck, I laughed shortly as he drew back, his eyes narrowing suddenly. Hrm. He was either very frightening, becoming angry, or something like a mixture of the two.

I’d played with him enough, then? Yes, yes, fine… And I really hadn’t done much. After all, he was a grown man--creature. He could handle himself.

Drawing my hand back, I bowed slightly, then raised my eyes to look into his. “Forgive me if I frightened you… I have a tendency to forget myself, and an inclination toward impulsive ignorance. And you?”
